Looks like a super easy goal, but as a goalie I can say that those bounces are the worst. Goalies job is to predict most of the time. If the puck is really close to you and moves unpredictably, you will be/have your glove in a bad position, and by the time you react you are too late.
My eyesight is shiiiiiiiit. I have horrid depth perception due to strabismus. I was the best street hockey goalie in Charleswood as a kid. Why? I could anticipate and predict. I studied Patrck Roy's positioning. I could play against A1 and AA players. If the other team had a couple AA players, I was a bit fucked. We'd still likely win though due to the other team having a goalie who had no fucking idea.
People are saying that he should have positioned better, but he literally positioned properly for it. Before the bounce it was basically dead center on net and after it bounced it turned like 40 degrees to his glove side. As goalie, these shots are just the worse, plus with the speed, it throws you off. You spend the whole game taking shots at like 60 mph and then all of a sudden you get a knuckler going at 10 mph and the change in pace just messes with you.
About 99% I’d say. Pucks have done some crazy stuff because of bouncing. This is more because his team has a bad turnover in their own zone. You can see Korpi is relaxing / moving back into his net instead of moving out toward the shot. The real mistake Korpi made was trusting his teammates to clear the zone
For sure it is. But shit happens, sometimes you just think that it will be an easy save so you dont bother to move in front of it. But you should for sure
I’m a die hard hockey fan, but was never able to play bc it’s expensive, but as a baseball infielder, I’ve always been taught to block the ball with your body instead of trying to make a flashy glove snag.
Im sure it doesn’t fully apply but the idea is the same. Your body is larger than your glove
Eh, you gotta know about these kinda shots. Definitely a fluke, but the Toskala goal is all you need to remember. Play it like a catcher. Short hop, get on top of it, close the angle. Don't try and control it just try and confine it. Worry about the rebound after.

Forsberg has never been reliable. We saw that last year. I don't have any faith in Korpisalo and in my own opinion its not just a D problem.. I think the team has no confidence in their goaltenders. That's just my opinion, I could very well be wrong.
Probably best he didn't sacrifice his body and career for that lasered scorcher..... Goaltender probably has a few secret families that depend on him financially.

Put your body in front of it, instead of glove only. That way, if your glove misses, it hits you in the chest.
