At least we got Bunting out of the deal instead of giving him up for nothing. And now Guentzel gets to light up the Atlantic division and maybe get another cup
I don't think you'll be downvoted for that. they were only 8 points ahead of the red wings, if Detroit didn't shit the bed in March they very easily could've missed the playoffs this year. if Stamkos really is leaving then that's a huge loss even with Jake filling the roster spot, his leadership is important for them.
We let go of franchise captain 35 year-old 40-goal scorer Stamkos and 26 year-old Sergachev for 35 year-old McDonagh and 30-goal scorer Guentzel. BriseBois is not making the right moves.
Should've traded the always injured Cernak, the plateauing Cirelli, and the disappearing Sheary. Kept Sergachev, Stamkos, and still have room for Guentzel.
There are so many different ways to talk or exchange information these days it seems impossible to prevent tampering. Somehow Tampa found out what he was looking for and traded for him because they would give it to him.
I’m not even confident of that right now. I’m waiting to see how GM Grampa Simpson handles the off season. I’ll know more, after offseason.
Our GM made a risky pick with the first round pick which I’m not a fan of.
Well we had a good run for 6 years, but I'm worried we're bleeding too much of our core while waiting on our prospects to get experience.
When I get down I just watch this and remember how bad it was, and we're doing so much better now.

Agreed, but Pesce, Necas are gone...not sure if we'll keep Skjei or Slavin.
Just off-season nervousness
Edit: Slavin looks to be signing an 8 year today.... So phew.
It's official that I have zero idea what the approximate value of a 3rd round pick is now. At the trade deadline, you can generally acquire a bottom six forward with a decent track record on the kill. On draft days, you can a third and two seconds and get a late first round pick. On free agency eve, it buys 2 days of exclusive negotiating and the ability to add a year in term. These do not seem equivalent to me.
These are the teams I REALLY hope he doesn’t go to, ever:
Florida
Dallas
Calgary
Carolina
Detroit
These are the teams I don’t mind him going to if he really needs to go to:
Vancouver
Seattle
Utah
Colorado
Toronto
Montreal
So they choose Guentzel over Stamkos?? I guess it makes sense as Guentzel is younger. I wonder if Stamkos goes to Carolina as that is also a warm climate and a low tax state (but not zero tax like Florida) or perhaps Nashville. Perhaps he goes to Detroit as they might offer him something huge. Of course there is also Toronto, but that would probably require Marner or JT leaving.
I honestly don’t know why Tampa isn’t trying to bring back Stankos. He had a good season and I thought he was good in the playoffs. If Tampa doesn’t bring their captain back then that’s a huge blow to Tampa making it back to the finals.
Stamkos is more important than trying to sign Guentzel. Oh well. Stamkos needs to rub it in Tampa’s face and sign with Colorado. Win the cup and give the finger to Tampa management
Guess now that Tampa is going for Guentzel that means Stamkos is pretty much gone. Stamkos to the Rangers now to replace Trouba as captain when they get rid of him.
Better than paying 2/3 of the "core" aarp subscribers who genuinely hurt the team at this point. The fact that we keep both (or either) Geno and Tanger at this point is painful
The fact that a team won't take Geno or Tanger because of their contracts should tell you how absolutely horrid the contracts are. I hope you enjoy the Pens being a bottom 15 team for the next decade because I will be hating it
That was before Guentzel was planning on either re-signing with us or not. The Penguins weren’t expecting to let Guentzel go at the time Karlsson was traded to Pittsburgh.
Straight up not having a good time
How the fuck do you think Pens fans feel
At least we got Bunting out of the deal instead of giving him up for nothing. And now Guentzel gets to light up the Atlantic division and maybe get another cup
tampa may not even make the playoffs next year ^^^bring ^^^on ^^^the ^^^downvotes

True
Grew up a pens fan. Now live in Raleigh area. Absolutely double gutted. I was gonna show up to next year's games in an old pens guentzel jersey.
Fine. He wasn't worth re signing here for the deal he'll get anywhere else.
It's better than nothing
If JBB is coughing up a 3rd to get priority in talking to him, I better see a contract announced later today/early tomorrow
it’s coming. a little bitter sweet cuz it likely means we’re letting stamkos move on.
I thought they were letting go of cap to sign stamkos, sorry man.
That’s the first thing I thought when I saw this move
If that’s true, I hope the rumors Nashville is all-in on him are true as well. They could really use a presence like Stamkos’
i read somewhere that the wings are going to give him a bid.
I saw nyr 😂
🤮. i’ll die if it’s toronto or boston
Guentzel > Stamkos?
At this stage? Absolutely 💯
A 3rd is pretty high for this sort of trade, they must have a deal.
I don’t understand the whole tampering/not tampering rule, you don’t make this trade without a prior conversation with the player right?
There are so many different ways to talk or exchange information these days it seems impossible to prevent tampering. Somehow Tampa found out what he was looking for and traded for him because they would give it to him.
Agent was negotiating a deal the whole time I’d bet. Sent out feelers and basically negotiated ahead of time as if he was already a UFA.
Exactly the kinda pain I wanted to feel on a Sunday morning
Go get Stamkos now. Make it hurt
It would hurt so bad, you have no idea.
Worse than VL4 IMO and that still hurts for me.
Losing Vinny and Marty was a gut check, but Cally ended up proving to be a solid addition to the team and I was glad to have him
A lot of fans going to hate them for this. For a long time
Wish my Isles made moves like this. It shows an intention to be in the postseason. Which Isles don’t seem.
The Isles intend to make the postseason. They just don't intend to stay in the postseason.
I’m not even confident of that right now. I’m waiting to see how GM Grampa Simpson handles the off season. I’ll know more, after offseason. Our GM made a risky pick with the first round pick which I’m not a fan of.

The canes will be fine. Maybe not contenders this year but I would be shocked if we didn’t make the playoffs. Especially in the trash metro division.
The canes are always hitting the playoffs but never a major threat.
Jake wasn’t our core…we had the penguin for less than 30 games…
Agreed, but Pesce, Necas are gone...not sure if we'll keep Skjei or Slavin. Just off-season nervousness Edit: Slavin looks to be signing an 8 year today.... So phew.

Stamkos > Guentzel
Not anymore lol
How dareth you talketh about thy Father Stamkos as such?!
Well damn
Tampering? 🤣 Come on down Stamkos to the west coast. We have Sun here , sometimes.
Nucks have a pretty stacked and raxked roster already. Can they even afford stammer ?
15 odd million cap space and a gaping hole on Petterssons line. That’s why they’re also in on Guentzel if he hits the market
i wouldn’t hate this. if he leaves, i want him out of our division so i don’t have to see him and tear up too often.
Told you the $ wasn’t for Stamkos.
Rights.
Might just be me. But Guentzal
Add Moser, Geekie and a 2nd. It shakes out fairly well bc of cap.
It’s Stamkover Now come on up to Smashville Steven, your pal Schenn’s here and we need the PP help
These are the teams I REALLY hope he doesn’t go to, ever: Florida Dallas Calgary Carolina Detroit These are the teams I don’t mind him going to if he really needs to go to: Vancouver Seattle Utah Colorado Toronto Montreal
he better not fuckin end up in toronto or boston!
Utah would be amazing. Could be a perfect first captain!
So they choose Guentzel over Stamkos?? I guess it makes sense as Guentzel is younger. Is trading picks for rights a new thing? I don’t recall it happening recently. It is interesting to say the least.
Really good move by Tampa. Guentzel is a helluva player.
please come home
Stamkos to the Canes would be amazing.
Bye bye Stammer
Guentzel is just hurting the lightning making them give up a 3rd for nothing as he’s gonna return to Pitt at 8 years 1 mil AAV
[удалено]
no way no way
Steal Stamkos 😠
This guy wasn’t even on your team that long, why you haf to be mad?
Not really mad, just would’ve loved to have kept him long term, especially with how he performed for us
Guess now that Tampa is going for Guentzel that means Stamkos is pretty much gone. Stamkos to the Rangers now to replace Trouba as captain when they get rid of him.
🤮
The Penguins had one job this off-season. Fuck Dubas
With the current state of our team, what good is paying a 29 year old forward over 9 mil gonna do for us?
Better than paying 2/3 of the "core" aarp subscribers who genuinely hurt the team at this point. The fact that we keep both (or either) Geno and Tanger at this point is painful
And that’s Dubas’ fault how exactly? He wasn’t the one in charge when those deals were given
Deal the players and stop signing all leaf players that he had personal relationships with
Wow if only it was that easy to trade those contracts, you should be GM if you think irl is like NHL franchise mode
The fact that a team won't take Geno or Tanger because of their contracts should tell you how absolutely horrid the contracts are. I hope you enjoy the Pens being a bottom 15 team for the next decade because I will be hating it
Buddy, it’s time to let it go. Guentzel was never gonna come back to Pittburgh. We couldn’t afford to give what he was asking for.
But we could afford 60 mil for Geno and Tanger plus another how much for Kalrsson?
That was before Guentzel was planning on either re-signing with us or not. The Penguins weren’t expecting to let Guentzel go at the time Karlsson was traded to Pittsburgh.
WTF?? Why would they trade him.. and for a third round pick??
He is a free agent tomorrow. They got a 3rd round pick for someone they probably weren’t going to re-sign anyway.
