I would see if Kohl's offers an extended warranty for less than $40. Having said that, I find value in having a Costco membership for many other reasons, perhaps you will, too.
Look at Groupon! Occasionally there are discounts/deals on Costco memberships there, I believe I got my membership for cheap and also got a Costco gift card in the deal.

We got ours on QVC and it came with extra containers that made it a really good deal.
I went with QVC for price and it had the extra containers and I got it in a cool blue color!

That's a good idea - unfortunately turns out they don't offer any extended warranties at all. Helping me lean towards Costco though!
