My gut reaction is to say "Well you can't stop shifting NOW"
Smoke to Lava is in a really peculiar spot on the "Good to instant death" scale of fungal shifts.
You could theoretically still pull off a run, it's not particularly apocalyptic per-say. Like flammable gas to acid can be, or gold to Draught of Midas.
But man, that's going to be insane to deal with on some levels. I think I rate that about as bad as Water to Ominous Liquid. Maybe worse while you're on The Vault, that place is always burning by the time I get to the bottom, and it never seems to stop.
i got smoke to swamp on an earlier run. I thought the swamp would put out the fire but instead the fire burned the newly created swamp and peat to create water. the world started flooding from a single fire.
Had smoke to lava on my first God run, which I could never never finish because my game kept locking up from picking up gold is forever. Teledigging everywhere combined with the smoke->lava causing enemies to die like hamis and drop gold that never disappeared was too much for the poor engine.

Survive 5 minutes, try to shift lava into anything else

Freezing Aura would largely protect you, and then you can drown levels in lava instead of water.
