Exactly. I usually come into the office on Fridays. When you tell people, they look dazed. Little do they know, offices are generally sparse on Fridays; it is mostly just firm leadership (whom are exactly who I want to see me working).
You've got some people who seem to WFH most days then show up on Fridays and Holidays to act like they're dilligent. I had a boss like that; insufferable. "You're here Friday? Good for you. I was here M-TH."
When hasn’t the office involved politics, bureaucracy, or optics? I come in Friday because it looks good. As a second point, I also am able to close out a lot of deliverables, which often are prioritized since it is the “end of the week”. Regardless, I do not fight against the system and work with it.
Come, join us, on friyay!
I can’t believe I actually paid $38 for ONE way to get to a not-to-be late for meeting in MD right after the Gucci Lanes opened near Tysons. Price gouging at its finest.
Or even maps. Their traffic overlay is much better than Waze. They definitely lack in some areas v. Waze, but their traffic info has Waze beat hands down.
They're both getting to be so close to each other it's almost not worth it.
Ugh. No wonder Waze's great route algorithms suddenly changed to be more Google-like a few years ago. Have been much less impressed with them since that.
If anyone uses Bing they deserve to be stuck in traffic. I just meant Google Maps and Waze. I guess it wasnt clear when I said the Maps owned by google I dunno
Yes. Bing indexes many sites that Google ignores either intentionally or its algorithms skips for whatever reason. Bing street images has locations not included by Google as well.
Yeah Google search has kind of been hot garage the last year and a half or longer. Starting to investigate other options at this point.
It’s all paid sites, and then they don’t even answer your search query, and cut it off early to sell you their curated section. Smh
You know I think I've heard that before. About getting more sites than Google. Where are Bing Street images? Part of their maps or their search?
Is their maps an app for Android? Same with search. I assume they have both...
where they take publicly owned land,
let a corporation lease it and build lanes with public financing,
and them we're stuck with high prices on one side
and more congestion on the other
while they lie about what a good idea it was
When I used to commute to Columbia from NoVA I tried using Waze and while it was helpful in some circumstances I felt like the detours always reflected the ideal timing of taking that route rather than reality. For example, a situation where you have to make a left turn without a light across a busy street. Waze would think it saves 20 minutes but in reality you’re stuck for 20 minutes waiting for a gap in traffic behind a long line of cars who Waze told to do the same thing.
It’s really useful for hazards and police, but I don’t really like to follow the directions it gives anymore.
I'll usually take my own shortcut, but Waze compliments that nicely because it can tell me the best way to get back on track, or if it's even worth it.
Some people keep Waze on in their background of another navigation app. That way you get the ding/notification from their hazards, but you can turn turn by turn navigation sound off and just use another app on top of it.
Everyone else has the same idea...so what's the point? Only so many alternate routes you can take. Besides, I'm only on the highway for like 10 min...doesn't make a huge difference to me. If there is a major backup, I'll jump on express. Has been no issues for me personally since the lanes opened up.
I have a little under15 minutes from my house to the highway, so I usually time WTOP just right...so it helps me decide if I need to drive local, use express, or if the regular lanes are ok. Literally zero need for me to use Waze.
I figure the radio traffic people today are just looking at traffic maps and maybe the traffic cameras, but I still like to listen while driving. You keep your eye on the road while building a picture in your mind for situation awareness.
I believe Waze has a paid version for traffic media professionals
It’s not blank. Tbh yeah used the highlighter tool for editing photos to go over the actual plate ID. There’s a slightly transparent stroke that crosses the border lines of the plate which is how I could tell. Kinda crazy how the highlighter color is almost identical.
This is how I know if there's traffic. If the price is low I assume there is no traffic and no point in using the "Gucci" lanes. If the price is high I know there's traffic but I'm not paying those high prices, I'll just be late.
I used to believe that--then came the day I actually was in a big hurry, saw the considerably higher than normal price, and decided that I'd better use the HOT lanes. Turned out that the regular lanes were just fine and they were doing construction on the HOT lanes, complete with lane closures and a backup.
I'm less trusting now....
When I was riding the 495 Express Lanes it came to $1/minute saved and back then, most of the time, my time was worth it to me. That was years ago tho...
Nah, you're not that old for sure. I hear this term a lot from military staff who skew younger. And those folks use it mostly to suggest some personal equipment is brand name or expensive. To me, Gucci seems like it would refer to something that may be prohibitively expensive. Wouldn't really apply it to express lanes, but they can get costly to ride daily.
I live around two coffee shops, and today seemed as if everyone was coming an hour earlier than usual with almost no lines last 8:45am. Today is truly a weird day
I can’t believe how far I had to scroll before I reached this comment. Seriously! Gucci or not, get off your phone in the driver’s seat on the highway!
In the spirit of a tiktok dance meme
"I could have driven Gucci lane
I could ride my Mercedes-Benz
But even with nothin' on
Bet I made you look (I made you look)"
There was a crash on I-495 Northbound just prior to Braddock Rd around this time, which blocked several lanes. I was also headed north from Braddock at the same time as OP, and I had the same thought (where’s all the traffic?) Especially as I got closer to Little River Turnpike, where Google maps showed a heavy backup, but traffic was free flowing.
Between teleworking and compressed schedules Fridays always tend to be a light traffic day. I got from Centreville to Ballston on 66 in 20 minutes and not my normal 45 as traffic wasn’t out there this morning.
I go into work on Fridays mostly because they give us lunch. Since I'm hourly and my boss is awesome about letting me have a flexible schedule I also work a little later in the beginning of the week and leave right after lunch.
They're also cool with me working from home. So my schedule is usually Monday and Tuesday in office, Wednesday and Thursday WFH and Friday half day with free lunch.
It's a lot less stressful.
Same, damn it, same thought process driving east on 66 from out near Front Royal to Chantilly.
I didn’t trust Waze or the signage predicting a mile a minute to 495 and figured a few minutes early was better than a few minutes late…
…and the traveling lanes on the left looked like a abandoned nature trail for the lack of traffic.
FML!
Teleworking!!! It's Friday, nobody comes in on Fridays anymore!
FCPS has day off, so lot of parents are home!
What's the occasion for the day off?
Staff workday! May be it helps to not have students to distract them!
Yeah, no students, but then all the time is taken up with stupid meetings.
End of the quarter
and Arlington County
This explains all the kids at Target
That's why I come in on Fridays!
Exactly. I usually come into the office on Fridays. When you tell people, they look dazed. Little do they know, offices are generally sparse on Fridays; it is mostly just firm leadership (whom are exactly who I want to see me working).

Best day to get badge swipe credit!
That’s a thing? What’s a badge swipe credit worth these days?
Not getting an email about not coming into the office enough? That’s quite valuable.
I’ve never heard of such a thing either. I’m 100% remote. Covid was the best thing that ever happened to my career.
We have this too 🙄 Or you’re my coworker lol
I wish that were true for me😩
Gucci lanes 😂 but, u gotta get in the habit of listening to wtop traffic before getting on the highway
“Gucci Lanes” has me dying.
When they were first introduced, I believe people called them the Lexus Lanes. Lexus isn't boujie enough anymore, I suppose.
Love the alliteration lol my dad calls them the Gucci lanes😆
I can’t believe I actually paid $38 for ONE way to get to a not-to-be late for meeting in MD right after the Gucci Lanes opened near Tysons. Price gouging at its finest.
After the recent price increase, the name needed to change too 😋
Perhaps it is due to how high the prices can go up to. The toll fast lanes are outside of the scope of Lexus, they reach "Gucci" levels (I guess?).
Or check Waze
Or even maps. Their traffic overlay is much better than Waze. They definitely lack in some areas v. Waze, but their traffic info has Waze beat hands down. They're both getting to be so close to each other it's almost not worth it.
They're both owned by google and share information tho
Unless by "Maps" they mean actual "Maps," the name of the Apple app.
Ugh. No wonder Waze's great route algorithms suddenly changed to be more Google-like a few years ago. Have been much less impressed with them since that.
Depends which Maps. Bing Maps is owned by Microsoft, etc.
If anyone uses Bing they deserve to be stuck in traffic. I just meant Google Maps and Waze. I guess it wasnt clear when I said the Maps owned by google I dunno
Well, I knew exactly which maps you were talking about. Nothing else worth talking about when comparing to Waze...
I never use anything Bing. Do other folks?
Smh

Gucci lanes 💀😂😂💀 Shiiit. When I glance over at those ez pass prices, I’m like yeahhhh… I’ll hang out here in the bumper to bumper traffic. 🤣
Lol, the only time I use them is when my kids are in the car so I get the HOV +3 ride for free.
Grandpa, use Waze...
When I used to commute to Columbia from NoVA I tried using Waze and while it was helpful in some circumstances I felt like the detours always reflected the ideal timing of taking that route rather than reality. At least to avoid paying unnecessary tolls when traffic is light.
Just look at the toll cost.
Hey. That’s me in that blue car 😅
No way what a small world lol
It's not a small world, you're just the only 2 people left in it.
More like the only 2 people still driving to work on Friday 😂

r/tworedditorsonecup
No way! That’s cool if it’s really you!
It really is me lol.
Eerie indeed, if true.
Not with the "No Step on Snek" license plate 🤦♂️
Prove it
https://imgur.com/a/AzLMajs
I didn’t think you’d actually do it lol 1 internet point for your bravery
Wow nice, and small world too….cool BMW btw I love the color! 335i xDrive (F30)?
I saw him switch lanes without using a turn signal. It’s him.
It was not his fault. The free subscription ran out mid-drive.
It's not, he would've said "blue BMW" and not just blue car
I didn’t want to sound braggy by calling it my BMW lol. But here is the proof https://imgur.com/a/AzLMajs
How did you get that blank license plate?!?!? 😂
It’s not blank. Tbh yeah used the highlighter tool for editing photos to go over the actual plate ID. There’s a slightly transparent stroke that crosses the border lines of the plate which is how I could tell. Kinda crazy how the highlighter color is almost identical.
Whoosh
This question needs answers
Neat, do the solar panels on it actually charge it enough?
no they would've said "that's me in the 3 series"
So true lmaoooo
☠️☠️☠️
Omg 😂
Hot car \[Insert Fire emjoi\].
I know your car, seen it around the dmv lol small world
“The Gucci lane” took me out hahah
The Jeffrey Epstein Lanes
FCPS has a student holiday today, so a lot of people are probably stuck at home babysitting.
This. Except it's not babysitting when it's your kids. That's called parenting. Edit: autoINcorrect
>That's called patenting. No, that's when you register an invention with the government.
No it's that's a decorative wood accent that was used in homes a lot during the 1970s and sometimes even on station wagons.
>That's called patenting. [actually](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41587-020-0447-x)...
Here is the answer.
Everyone else took the Louis Vuitton lanes today
Fridays and Mondays have been heaven for those of us driving into work!! They’re the most popular days for wfh!

I'm pretty sure it's only elementary school but yes every school I know does them
My brother/sister in Christ. You gotta check the googs maps traffic before hopping in the Gucci lane!
Or just look at the prices on the board at the entrance. The higher the price the more time you'll save.
This is how I know if there's traffic. If the price is low I assume there is no traffic and no point in using the "Gucci" lanes. If the price is high I know there's traffic but I'm not paying those high prices, I'll just be late.

Or you can just ride a motorcycle and take them every time for free ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)
I usually dooo but I was running late late this morning😆
Gucci lanes?! Either I'm not hip with today's slang or I am f*cking decrepit.
Hahaha it's just what my dad calls them and I think it's funny (and fitting)😅
Gucci is the newest sponsor for these lanes. Gotta keep that money rolling in.
Nah, you're not that old for sure. I hear this term a lot from military staff who skew younger. And those folks use it mostly to suggest some personal equipment is brand name or expensive. Gucci Lanes Drivers: ![gif](giphy|3ohzh40hWzKIHTrFcY|downsized)
I’ll never call it a “toll road” ever again
You go into the office on Fridays?
I just started this job and it has a 3 month probationary period before I can start hybrid😭
That fucking sucks ew
Thank you for your empathy I agree😅
Not everyone works from home, especially jobs that require physical labor.
I typically find Friday to be a light day and I feel that things clear up by 8:30 unless you’re within 5 miles of DC
That's why, while I know how to get everywhere, I still put the destination into maps to check traffic.
As stated, with schools closed - everyone isn't driving. It's directly related to the school open_close schedule.
FCPS has a school holiday today. Most parents are working from home.
Friday mornings are such an easy commute! Friday evenings? Still strangely horrible. Where do all of you come from?
Kids don’t have school …
Gucci lanes, lmao
Thought the same. Nobody was going to work today and I didn't get the memo
I live around two coffee shops, and today seemed as if everyone was coming an hour earlier than usual with almost no lines last 8:45am. Today is truly a weird day
Gucci lanes? I got these lanes from a hobo.
LoL.. I think Fridays and Mondays are WFH days.
Are yall not in the habit of putting your work and home address in your phone GPS to gauge traffic before getting ready?
I input 10 minutes earlier than my desired arrival time and the arrival location and it’s the best!!!
Friday WFH
Look at the FCPS calendar and print a copy. They have a lot of random student holidays. The roads are always clear when no school.
I want a Gucci Lanes bumper sticker.
Gucci lanes, I love it
Driving and taking a picture on your phone. Not a good habit
I can’t believe how far I had to scroll before I reached this comment. Seriously! Gucci or not, get off your phone in the driver’s seat on the highway!
I parked to take the picture🤷🏼♀️
drive over those soft medians 😂
Fairfax schools are out today, so maybe a lot of families are doing 3-day weekends. Or staying home with kids.
Yeah can it be like this Tues-Thursday plz
In the spirit of a tiktok dance meme "I could have driven Gucci lane I could ride my Mercedes-Benz But even with nothin' on Bet I made you look (I made you look)"

Gucci lane!? More like Hermes to me
I’m gonna call it Gucci lanes forever now thank you!
You're welcome🫡😂
For some reason I couldn't process the fact that this was a picture and thought the BMW just came to a full stop in the middle of the highway lmao
Between teleworking and compressed schedules Fridays always tend to be a light traffic day. I got from Centreville to Ballston on 66 in 20 minutes and not my normal 45 as traffic wasn’t out there this morning.

I was running late I didn't have timeee🙃
The metro was dead this morning, too.
Arlington County is off today too.
I wouldn't call "Gucci" a luxury brand..
TBF, EZ Pass isn't a luxury brand either.
This guy definitely posted in the “signs of class” DCUM thread from yesterday.
?
https://www.reddit.com/r/nova/comments/11g1x6c/subtle_signs_of_class/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
I mean you can check my comment history🤷🏻♂️
No I didn’t mean literally. I mean just the general attitude of “that’s not *real* luxury” when it’s unaffordable for 99% of people.
😂😂Gucci lanes..can’t hide money, lol
Maybe cause a bunch students are off today ?
Fairfax county public schools are closed today. Maybe that could be the reason.
Fridays are always light traffic days
FCPS school holiday
I t was like that last Friday. Just wide open while I was on HOV for nothing.
Fridays always have less traffic.
95 NB was delightfully moving this morning too. Saved me some ez pass $$. 🙌🙌
The real question is: why spend money in the Gucci lanes if there’s no traffic? Those lanes are expensive at peak hours!
Family for the HOV EZ pass win here :)
Fr driving to work today was so nice with no one on the roads today
Arlington schools are off too, not sure if that would affect this part of 495 though…🤷🏼♀️
Yeah, I noticed too, the roads were almost empty today.
It’s like this most Fridays or am I missing something?
FCPS and Arlington has a day off.
FCPS was closed today. People were home with kids.
Major accident on the express lanes on 95 north.
If the toll is more than $6.00, take the Gucci Lane, because there’s going to be traffic jams ahead
* *checks traffic on Google Maps* * Nope. Not anymore.
I thought those were Lexus Lanes.
Thank your lucky stars.
I dunno where they were this morning but they were sure as shit back on the Outer Loop this afternoon!
It’s a rainy Friday. People are done with winter and want to be not miserable.
CPAC comes to town and the locals scatter like roaches in the light.
Federal Fridays!
The tolls were still probably like $9… “Dynamic tolling” my butt!
Transurban thanks you for your support. Some of their executives need a larger yacht this year.
Yea folks be teleworking on Friday’s now
I noticed the same. My commute to work took 30% less time.
Same, damn it, same thought process driving east on 66 from out near Front Royal to Chantilly. I didn’t trust Waze or the signage predicting a mile a minute to 495 and figured a few minutes early was better than a few minutes late… …and the traveling lanes on the left looked like a abandoned nature trail for the lack of traffic. FML!
You missed the accident that had 495W like a parking lot.
FCPS had a teacher work day.
Traffic
I have literally never once looked at an interstate highway and thought to myself “I should photograph this and share it on the internet”
Yeah weird no clue but stress level down😁
