Announcers have cheat sheets of how players prefer their names pronounced so if it doesn’t bother X it shouldn’t bother us, idk

esreveReverse

The announcers all pronounce it Zavier. So what you said just lends more credence, since I guess Zavier is his preferred pronunciation. It's fans and analysts that say Igzavier.

[deleted]

“Ex” kinda sounds like eggs The only Xavier I know in real life goes by “ex-zaiv-ee-er”

esreveReverse

Sounds like a lame excuse, or I guess how it really should be spelled, xcuse

[deleted]

Homie it’s the name he told me to call him, the fuck you want me to do?

iamsomeguy25

Let him know he’s wrong, obviously

esreveReverse

Haha I know I just wanted to use the xcuse line

BaetrixReloaded

Haha

chloroform42

X-Men

esreveReverse

That's because it's the letter X as a standalone. If it were B-Men, it would be pronounce "Bee-Men" not "Buh-Men"

what_we_do_is_wrong

oh wow

jay5627

Xylophone

Kenny_Heisman

tbf there are plenty of Xaviers that pronounce it that way

Fjordice

I've known two in my life, a French Canadian woman who said it "Zay-vier" and a half Latino American boy who did it "Ex-avier" Doesn't seem like that big a deal lol

Jon-Umber

Who cares

Ankaphoenix

I thought it was a play on his Instagram handle: “it.xay”- pronounced as “Its-Zay”-

BearWaver

I'm with you bro, it's weird people can't say his name

esreveReverse

I guess it's just very rare for a word to start with X? But the precedence is there with common-ish words like xylophone, xenophobia, xerox, etc. But the weirdest part is that it's not even just an "ex" bastardization, the "igz" is mindblowing.

BearWaver

Yea, people get weird with pronouncing words they see based on spelling. Your original point of it being similar to "savior" still stands. Both Savior and Xavier are formed by the mouth in exactly the same way. The only difference is pronunciation and it's if you vocalize the first sound. If you vocalize the "s" sound from savior you get the "z" sound from Xavier. It's easy but when we see how it's written we do a bunch of extra things and get confused

John_YJKR

Lol. And Hackett couldn't use Hardman at all? What a fucking joke.

BearWaver

Did you comment on the wrong post or something?

John_YJKR

No? This is the other games thread right? A player with Hardman's speed is useful to any team. Been back in KC for a few days and he's making an impact play with his speed and picking up 1st downs. It's frustrating Hackett didn't even try to give him snaps to give him a chance to make a big play. It's not like the offense gas been humming along smoothly. Hackett is an idiot for playing Cobb over Hardman.

BearWaver

How does that have anything to do with how you pronounce a different player's name?

John_YJKR

Oh jfc I'm in the wrong thread. Lol

urdixaninnie

Xaviers everywhere in shambles

TheP00ThatTookAPee

Xcuse me?

BasilFomeen

Correct pronunciation isn't important to at least 75% of the population. Why learn how to pronounce the guy's name properly? And don't get me started on the word "exit" (commonly mispronounced as "egg-zit"). It's just like "Xavier", there is no fucking "G" in "exit" and no "G" in "Xavier".

esreveReverse

Oh got I didn't realize it applies to words where X is in the middle too. I'll never unlearn this disturbing fact

plannersimplicity

The most famous "Xavier" in fiction is pronounced "Ex-zay-vee-er" so that may be why youre hearing it so much. Of course Im talking about Dr. Charles Xavier aka Professor X. As far as "Ig-zay-vee-er" that just sounds like a california accent version of it.
