Absolutely. Critics are people who never succeeded in their chosen field.

"The reason why rock critics prefer Elvis Costello to Van Halen is because rock critics look like Elvis Costello."-David Lee Roth

I love the album, I think it suffers mostly from a whole lotta cocaine and following up 2 of the most iconic albums of the 90’s.

Dazzling-Reflection5

It's generally a very good album bar 2 issues. The 1st is that as has been said it is cocaine fuelled, overblown overproduced extravagance. It was someone wanting to make a statement with nothing really to say; whilst having the biggest party of all time. The other is that after the success of the 1st two albums and Knebworth, we were expecting it to be the greatest album of all time and put Oasis undisputedly alongside the Beatles as the biggest band of all time. No matter how good you think it is, it was never going to be able to live up to the hype. Even if they had made the best album ever, I think it would still have struggled to live up to the hype.

AromaticMountain6806

What...if....they saved the Masterplan songs though?

Dazzling-Reflection5

Potentially, potentially not. Aa you know a studio album is 10-12 songs normally. If they'd taken the best 12 (not easy and if we did a poll we'd never agree on it), it would have been a sensational album. However, most of those songs were written living in Manchester before they'd made it, wanting to get out and make it. Singing Going Nowhere when you're a world famous multi millionaire living it up in London. Or singing "Whilst we're living, the dreams we have as children Fade Away" when their dreams have very publicly come true; the album would have lacked authenticity.

It was critically acclaimed until Noel said he didn’t like it and then there was a free for all to say it was shit. Music critics are fuckin cretins in general. Music is about personal taste.

Dazzling-Reflection5

A lot of that critical acclaim though was because they hadn't been very favourable about WTSMG? and been made to look stupid. So they went to the other extreme for BHN

Aginor404

It is one of my favourites as well. I just like that cocaine-fueled overly long, overly complex sound.

jungle-fever-retard

Noel Gallagher: “I don’t know what happened. It’s all KSSSHHHHHHHHHHHH, and all the songs are really long and all the lyrics are shit…It’s the sound of a bunch of guys on coke in the studio not giving a fuck”

RNRS001

Wow, what a great question. If only Be Here Now would be discussed more often here.

fystki

Absolutely agree! Apart from the hits it also has some bangers like I hope, I think, I know and Magic Pie

Dazzling-Reflection5

I suppose another one thing is they were trying too hard whilst not trying hard enough. He didn't spend enough time to really craft & perfect the songs, but then they spent to much time adding another guitar solo or adding another 2 minutes to each song.

theeggmanwalrus

As my father always says.. Morning Glory was the Peak. Be Here Now was the Celebration. Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants was the Hangover.

yellowarmy79

I love it but that's probably because I prefer Oasis' heavier stuff and it's very guitar driven and overblown. I think the issue with it, it isn't radio friendly. All Around the World is over 10 minutes long . Plus, diehard Oasis fans loved it. A lot of the casual fans who got into Oasis because of the hype were not keen on it. I remember friends who only took an interest in Oasis after Wonderwall and DLBIA not being that impressed. I kind of felt they gave up on it. They only released 3 singles from the album in the UK whilst the two previous had at least 4. Don't Go Away was supposed to be a single but I think Noel admitted he didn't have or couldn't be arsed to write B sides for it.

Intelligent-Search88

I’ve always felt like SOTSOG was the album that BHN should have been.

RepresentativeAir735

Born in 79, also my favorite band. If Be Here Now is in your top 3 albums of all time, I suggest you start listening to the Beatles.

romeodread

The music is good, most of the lyrics were just okay. The first thing I noticed after listening to it is there seemed to be a Beatles reference in every song. That was a bit off putting, but still love the album as a whole.

clarkyk85

Wouldn't say it is my top 3 but its an album i love all the same. Wouldn't mind a proper remix that trims the fat and polishes the shiny bits, but I don't think anyone is going back in to fix that anytime soon.

Admirable_Order_7480

“Is it my turn to post this yet?”

fretnetic

Never heard of it. Is it Oasis or Beady Eye?

Unusual-Signal944

Aye it is.
