It's the svefnþorn [https://norse-mythology.org/symbols/svefnthorn/](https://norse-mythology.org/symbols/svefnthorn/)
It seems an odd thing to tattoo on yourself, as it was a mark designed to create a deep sleep but seems to have been designed to inflict that on someone other than yourself. It was broadly meant to be effective until someone removed it from under or 'inside' the head of the person it was cast on. Having it permanently on the body, if you believe it works, seems strange.
I've seen that a couple times. To my knowledge it's translated as Sleep Thorn and it's a runic stave pattern used to put people to sleep, typically like an enemy army kind of thing I think.
Now, as far as how/if it's constructed from like the Elder Futhark or some other method of rune binding, I'm not sure. Not super well versed in Staves yet.
I thought these were keys and scrolled past the post with the assumption these were posted in r/Hecate but had a feeling it was something else so I scrolled back up and realized it's not that. So... there's that lol.
Rune: single letter and holds magic within.
Sigil: latin for seal. A symbol that can summon usually by being the name of the being. The magic is not within, but a message to summon from elsewhere.
The Edda implies that the Runes hold great power as they are revealed to Odin after he sacrificed himself to himself. However it seems rather that not the Runes but written language overall is the Gift that holds great power and wisdom, namely speaking the language of the dead.
And as the germanic tribes used the Runes for talismans and magick, the egyptians used their hieroglyphs. So as we see, its not the Alphabet we use that holds magickal power but their meaning.
No, written word is the language of the dead as in when Im long dead people will still be able to read what I once said.
The Runes are not from the Gods, since they got revealed to Odin and thus in the norse Mythos the Runes predate the Gods.

thank you!!
Yw ☺️
Runes are germanic characters of multiple alphabets. Sigils are magickal symbols.
do they have any magical significance? what's the difference between using them and using normal alphabets?

interesting! im a bit confused, so the Germanic characters are the language of the dead? and the runes are from god/s?
