It's rare these days to find games that support local servers for true LAN parties. For LAN events you end up having to get a LAN build of the game which can be a real pain. First you need to set it up on a server and have it run for crap (assuming the dev will even give it to you), then you need them to auth a special build of the game configured to use that server for everyone that is going to play at your party unless it's a PC version and there is a config file you can alter. I miss the old days where all games shipped with the dedicated server and connecting to local servers was just built in.
Good god it annoys me to no end when I'm trying to do something in passthrough and it starts going black. Is there a setting to turn off that black effect so I can just walk around in passthrough?
I can walk all around my house with passthrough on, I think you can enable it on the Oculus quick settings. Don't know if it works with stationary play area or only with room scale, but I'm 100% sure it works with room scale.
Not sure how that was called for or even relevant to the question I was answering, but if you really need to know I'm a developer working on prototypes that use passthrough, so it's not so much about being hard but about it being a necessity to test the game... though after taking off and putting on the headset over 100 times per day while coding, it's not hard to imagine why I would avoid it if possible.
Hey guys! To answer some questions:
-We played After The Fall (like Left 4 Dead) 4 player co-op
-They were watching an immersive video when this video was taken
-We obviously spaced out when we were playing
-We only played VR games for an hour. Some players weren’t used to VR and we’re getting motion sick. We played regular PC games for 5-6 hours
Was the guy in the racing sim setup playing a different game? I'm guessing so because I am pretty sure that there is no car in that game but idk, maybe it does.
What about other games? I'm seeing them for like $400-$500 used on eBay and I'm tempted to snag one just to fuck around and enjoy that FOV which I've been dying for. So sick of the current quest FOV lol
To be honest, I only use my Pimax for sim racing. Since I own a Quest 2 also, I can’t justify spending another $300-$400 on controllers and another base station for the Pimax.
Do you think it'd be worth it to go back to Vive wands for the Pimax if I currently use a Quest 2 mostly? Analog sticks are fucking amazing compared to those touch pads for walking, but I also wish the Quest felt better on my head, had a wider FOV, etc. I wear glasses so even losing the few degrees of FOV from the Vive to the Quest 2 sucked, it feels like I'm wearing binoculars
Bobovr with multiple batteries. Comfier than the Elite Strap and they have magnetic quick swap so you never have to stop playing if you play your cards right.
Go shovel some driveways to get an extra buck or two.
There are plenty of good 30$ batteries online and you can use the cable you already have, don't need fancy straps either just put it in your pocket and I like to run the cord under my shirt so it doesn't snag.
Would if I could. Bronchopulmonary dysplasia and a fast metabolism make it hard for me to do that, especially if there's ice.
Currently, I donate plasma for money. I'm autistic, no one wants to hire me (I was run out of two jobs because of it). However, I can't drive myself (I have a 2006 Range Rover I bought for $1,000, but one of the suspension air bags is leaking, so I need to fix that).
I thought batteries were more expensive than that. I was also planning on getting an active cable... because $70 for a glorified charging cable is a bit too steep...
You can get a 10000mAH anker power bank on amazon for 25 dollars. There pretty light so you could get a cheap 10ft cable and run it from you back pocket though your shirt or mount it to the strap. Ankers are of good quality so for 25 bucks tou can double your battery life.
can confirm. when i bought my quest i also got an anker 13000 and a mount strap thingumy and attached it to the back of the stock standard default strap and it makes the headset last about 7 hours before running out of juice, and it also makes the headset feel lighter by counterbalancing the brick hanging off my face
First of all, that doesn't make a difference in charging time. It takes an hour or less to charge to full capacity with the default charger.
Secondly, if you've put that much effort into it, it's no one's fault but your own that you didn't buy a battery pack to balance the headset.
How did the Pimax turn out? I heard it had distortion issues that got better but never fully solved?
I'm eyeing the 12K pimax that they're aiming to release at the end of 2022, assuming it has Foveated rendering and also assuming I can get a 4000 series gpu.
The Pimax is great for sim racing because of the wide FOV. I feel like the quest 2 has better picture quality but I need to do more sim racing in the quest to get a better comparison.
I'm curious about the newer Pimax headsets if there is less distortion, or better; none at all. My 5k+ from a few years back was horrible; so naturally I'm skeptical of Pimax. I was very bothered by the distortion and also the seemingless non functional IPD adjustment, like I noticed the IPD moving and having an effect, but still it just did not work on my eyes for some weird reason. I've never had theese these issues with other headsets, and I've owned a lot of different headsets.
So I would like to know if someone that has has a bad experience with the first versions of the headsets has seen noticeable improvements in the newer versions.
Yes!! There are tons of great multiplayer games on quest.
- Walkabout minigolf
- Eleven table tennis
- Population one
- VR chat / rec room
Just to name a few
More like Cloud party.
Xbox was the first death knell when they started phasing out system link in favor of online play.
I miss games that were coded such that LAN speeds/latency were expected for the best experience.
Now everything is coded with the expectation of latency and we all lose a little bit of something as a result.
I miss LAN parties. Well really what I miss is having no responsibilities so I could stay up all night playing computer games and sleep the next day.
Once a week during highschool with the same group.. once a month in college.. once a year after most of us got family & work..

Indeed, the good thing about lan parties were that the games were actually LAN, nowadays everything depends on some remote servers on the internet....
You need pull with the devs to do it these days, but it can be done.
Amen to that...
Same!!
Let's go play group VR in the most cluttered room ever. What could go wrong?
Also let me stand in the middle of all those guys right within arm's reach
Looks like they might be playing something slow paced like Hand Simulator
*Plays VR in the Evil Dead shed with all the sharp tools*
It just makes melee combat more immersive.
What are they playing?
1998 garage me: I hope the birth givers don't hear us sneaking out the car 2022 garage me: I hope passthrough goes far enough for me to pee

Is it *that hard* to just take the headset off your face for a minute?

Goes black? Is this something that changed recently? I've walked around the house with passthrough before.
It did it on my v35 software Quest 2 last week. I get 10 seconds walk away from my guardian play area and it just goes black. VERY annoying.
Weird. I guess that was an update at some point. I haven't done it in a while.
That sounds like a lighting issue.
It's kinda like 1 of those 80s dystopian horror movies. They're all just stuck there. VRs fun af tho no lie.
imagine if they all started playing Gorn
DO YOU KNOW FITE? SHOW ME YOU DO FITE!

have you ever cleaned that garage?
Was the guy in the racing sim setup playing a different game? I'm guessing so because I am pretty sure that there is no car in that game but idk, maybe it does.
Nice Pimax
Thank you! It’s a Pimax 5K+. It’s an amazing headset for sim racing
What about other games? I'm seeing them for like $400-$500 used on eBay and I'm tempted to snag one just to fuck around and enjoy that FOV which I've been dying for. So sick of the current quest FOV lol

yeah dude for sure, after a bit buy 2 index controllers and connect them to your 1.0 vive base stations, it works.
I was wondering what headset was that...50% of the work was google, but it was mainly thanks to you I found what I was looking for.
me and 3 friends sat around the dining room table and played Demeo. it was kind of awesome
Does it play Doom?
Yep https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hGG0hVgbJc
Kinda getting dystopian vibes outta this. Ngl.
VR Fight Club. Put thrill of the fight or drunkn bar fight on each headset (bonus points for landing shots on Pimax) and last one standing wins.
Next up: socially distanced LAN parties.
Except you have to stop for 4 hours every 2 hours to charge the stupid thing.
Portable battery bank.
Bobovr with multiple batteries. They have magnetic quick swap.
I got an elite strap with the extended battery super comfortable and I’ve never had it die on me any more
I got it too, but still, get a bank lol.
Bobovr with multiple batteries. Comfier than the Elite Strap and they have magnetic quick swap so you never have to stop playing if you play your cards right.
*laughs in 30000mah battery pack*
Bobovr M2 Pro and multiple batteries gives you unlimited battery life
Unless you plug it in to a charger.
I find it doesn't charge but only slows the consumption. And also being tethered is garbage lol
Yeah, but it's all I've got until I can buy an external battery.
Go shovel some driveways to get an extra buck or two. There are plenty of good 30$ batteries online and you can use the cable you already have, don't need fancy straps either just put it in your pocket and I like to run the cord under my shirt so it doesn't snag.

Might have to restart the pc a couple times too.
The quest 2 does not take 4 hours to charge, and it does not die after 2 hours.
It does of you're pushing 120mhz and maxing settings in VD.

I am kind of happy to have that forced break tbh...
I hate this timeline.
it looks like a lancia in the background
It’s a vw cabriolet I think
Ok nice car anyways.
Those headsets are way too close tho
There's always one twat with a pimax
Looks lame as living fuck.
What's the point of getting together in one room 🤔
To hang out during breaks, and then have dinner together. Then play a bit more.
This guy anti socials

And Larcenaughts is really fun too. (Depends on your teammates though. Some can get really upset)
We really enjoy After The Fall. It’s like Left 4 Dead, 4 player co-op zombie shooting game
What headset is the black headset? It looks like the head strap is the halo strap for the Rift-S but the headset itself is to round to be the Rift-S.
Samsung Odyssey. It’s a Windows Mixed Reality headset. Wonderful FOV and super comfortable once you replace the default facial interface.
Couldn't you just all watch the same porn?
Throw on some KN95s and it will be legit
It’s not technically a LAN. Is it?
No but they are probably all in the same game in a party
I am ABSOLUTELY here for this. Now just wtf are they playing?
Dude driving is hanging a long left…
Cool vw.
This looks like a fun garage.
nice!!! and sooo true
You need at least one more type of HMD in this video.
Nice car
Fake. Where's the 3 hours of set-up?

I wish i had Oculus friends. All my friends are loving mine but no one buys one to play together
I know how this ends- we struggle to have only 2 people in the same space without playing bumper bodies
Woah you got the pimax
Is that Clint from LGR in the maroon hoodie?
WE STAN YOUR LAN 🔥
Can't wait for thrill of the fight lan parties
