Lyra's Daemon

Xenagos104

Is that a golden compass reference?

writerfan2013

Yes!

BlaqShine

Damn I completely forgot about this show

HYThrowaway1980

Haven’t you read the books??

BlaqShine

Nope

JishBroggs

First time seeing a golden compass reference in the wild. I’m still so pressed we didn’t get a sequel

Bdf1997

The third season of His Dark Materials is currently being released on HBO, and it's superb.

writerfan2013

I've only ever read the books, where obviously there is a sequel 🙂

JishBroggs

I just facepalmed my self very hard

StrikeWave_

And the book of dust after the trilogy too. Not only is there a sequel, there’s a sequel to the sequel, and a sequel to the first two sequels

hisshissgrr

I thought he was a pine marten?

lewisiarediviva

He was. He may have been a civet at one point but not that I remember

writerfan2013

I pictured him like this video! Of course, I don't really know what a pine marten looks like except roughly like this!! I've never seen one.

Tocwa

It reminds me of an animal on an alien world in No Man’s Sky 🌌

BartOseku

The hyena ferret <3

darthstabber

Beat me to it. Such a cute little critter.

artie_pdx

punker catsnake

anywhere402000

Catfoxferret...distant cousin to manbearpig

[deleted]

This animal's voice actor would absolutely have a cockney accent and say "Oi!" a lot.

D-boi1

He has a mohawk on his back!

[deleted]

First time seeing this animal. Where is it located?

KimCureAll

Native to South Africa

zmallory22

Make it a bit more fluffy and that is Oy.

b3nz0r

AKE Edit: bro someone is making a Dark Tower TV series! I hope they watch the movie and do everything opposite, and I hope it doesn't get canceled

zmallory22

From my understanding the guy is a huge Stephen king and dark tower fan so it should be pretty good.

b3nz0r

Long days and pleasant nights

zmallory22

And may you have twice as many

snowman92

It's Mike Flanagan, who directed Doctor Sleep, an adaptation of King's sequel to The Shining, and also did Midnight Mass which was HEAVILY "inspired" by Salem's Lot. If I trust anyone to make a DT adaptation today, it's Flanagan.

b3nz0r

I liked Doctor Sleep! The book was obviously better but I felt like he did a good job with the adaptation. This is exciting news.

KledisAnt

An animal I never knew I wanted until now

KimCureAll

This mammal is classified as a viverrid, not a mustelid or felid as some might expect. There are many species of genets, the Cape genet possibly being the most well known and more commonly seen of them.

PM-ME-PMS-OF-THE-PM

>not a mustelid or felid as some might expect Damn, I *definitely* expected it to be a mustelifelid.

KimCureAll

Or a slinkylid!!! LOL

justinlongbranch

I was gonna say, I bet that cute little fucker stinks!

LurchTheBastard

Was literally just wondering exactly that.

Ikon-for-U

They a kept as exotic pets according to Wikipedia. They are nocturnal,so they might tare it up at night like a crazy house cat.

reformedginger

There’s a drug dealer somewhere with one of these as a pet.

Puzzleheaded-Staff64

It's a ferret cat

[deleted]

Came here looking for that

[deleted]

It's a ratcatoon.

b3nz0r

Raccaccoony

Sad0wlz

Ratcatoouille but OP (this one don't hide in your hat but eat your head instead)

b3nz0r

Presumably doesn't steer you around like a horse either, lol

Fluffy-Check-582

Obv, cannot be petted right.

FuckYourHighFive

anything can be petted if you're brave or dumb enough

BlkSkwirl

Recommend front to back motion only, never back to front ;)

Corvell

Several species of genet may be kept as pets according to Wikipedia, but it didn’t specify much beyond that. They are not endangered.

Helenium_autumnale

Genetta tigrina: species, tigrina; genus, Genetta; family, Viverridae; suborder, Feliformia. Feliformia is a group of catlike carnivores. There are nine main families, seven of which survive today: Felidae: leopards, lions, other cats Viverridae: civets, the binturong, genets, the oyan. Hyaenadae: aardwolf, hyenas Herpestidae: mongooses and meerkats (yes, they are related to cats!) Eupleridae: Madagascarian civets and mongooses Nandiniidae: only 1 species, African palm civet Prionodontidae: two species of Asiatic linsangs Here is a pic of the [Feliformia family tree](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feliformia#/media/File:Feliform_Timeline.svg) through time (doesn't show Prionodontidae; that may be a new designation). You can see that the Cape Genet shared an ancestor with modern lions, &c. about 40 million years ago.

VicRambo

Like a tiny hyena

KimCureAll

The striped hyena has quite the mohawk! Just like this genet - they are not closely related though.

[deleted]

there is a reason he is using tongs to feed it. that bugger would take your finger right off

Neat_Art9336

I wonder if it’s also to encourage good habits. Don’t want to feed an animal with human hands if it’s going back to the wild. That’s a recipe for disaster.

intrepid_lemon

Leopard mongoose

Classic_External5162

I had absolutely no clue this creature existed…But man are they absolutely amazing and precious to look at! Astonishing friend!

Harbor_Barber

Looks like something straight out of pandora

InitialMeasurement23

Sweaty-Astronaut7248

[deleted]

Currently pissing or shitting on something I love.

Bobandyrandyran

Oh yes, the ocelot, I could not remember, thank you….

Sweaty-Astronaut7248

np my head is full of trivial knowledge

BootsDaddyLP

What a bizarre little critter. I don't think I'd be upset to have one as a fren.

kevineleveneleven

This is a feline. The common ancestor of all felines was probably slinky and super agile like this. Felines are ambush hunters who evolved in the forest, while canines are mostly opportunistic.

buggityboppityboo

>Cape genet not a feline

kevineleveneleven

Order: Carnivora Suborder: Feliformia

buggityboppityboo

The Felinae are a subfamily of the family Felidae.

kevineleveneleven

Ok, fine, it's a feliform. Who knows what that means? It's cat-like. Related to cats. My point stands even if not taxonomically accurate.

buggityboppityboo

Your mom is related to cats

truck_it

No-Valuable8008

It's like a leopard-ferret

Prospire

His tail looks at one of those kids toys that was like a fluffy worm with a long piece of clear string. it was fuzzy with a pair of googly eyes and you used to pull the clear string to make it move.

mrburns1830

Looks like a Miniature hyena .

MrDuckie2

Slugcat!

Wise_Gal_224

I have a toy rat terrier who moves a lot like this. Maybe she's not a dog at all... 🤔
