Honesty I don’t know. Most of my friends in bands either moved away or folded so I’m kinda disconnected. Let me know if you find any good shows while you’re out there.
As for Hillcrest. Lots of fun, super gay, and close to all the other hip neighbourhoods and downtown.
The Bassman can take it. You’re not going to find a lot of better amps than that. Unless you want a Pro Reverb. Easier to move, pretty close to the same deal.
The guitar is lovely, also.
Love it. Did you make any changes to your Jazzmaster or it came that way? Asking because I want to change the knobs, pickguard, and pickup covers on my JM and I'm wondering what color white yours are?
I’ve… got nothing. Shit. This is, like, the most roast-resistant thing I’ve seen here.
“I hate you because this is yours and not mine?” Does that count??
Believe me, I’ve thought about it, but I haven’t found a pink overdrive or a pink fuzz haha but there is a pink version of that 1981 and the boss dimension C It’s a great chorus.
I looked high and low for something to roast and the only thing I can find is that strap that can only be accompanied by a bunch of bulky bracelets and a scarf from Southeast Asia.
When you say "offset" are you referring to your mic positioning?
Sorry, that's all I got.
Kinda want a pink Jazzmaster now. I also like your pedal selection dammit.
that AB165 bassman is *significantly* different from the bassman that marshall (jtm), traynor (yba), sovtek (mig), etc copied, and somewhat different from the fender AB763 amps.
tough to find a direct replacement for that sound unless it explicitly clones it (since it was stupidly considered "inferior" to 5F6A/jtm or other fenders for so long).
a pro or super reverb style amp is most of the way there with the circuit topology. you could always have a tech mod the necessary cap and resistor values to AB165 spec if you're not into it (it's not major work).
keep in mind that oversized closed back cab is a big part of the sound though. and the original speakers are noticeably less efficient compared to most modern repros (like, a modern jensen or emi 1x12 is just as loud if not louder, side by side).
not sure i can entirely help you there; generally i like a little more headroom/better efficiency (but i also keep the stock jensens in my bassman, 50W through them is plenty loud and just work with the cab).
i like emi legends. never had a problem with them, and to my ear they sound relatively close to an old jensen ceramic sound, just louder and a little more high end.
the jensen repros are a little too harsh, and i've gotten coil rub on a number of them (even undisturbed fender RI stock). my experience with other emis (e.g. patriot/redcoat) is hit or miss sound-wise, but they're well made.
This comment really open my eyes. Yesterday I started to experiment with my twin reverb speakers connected to the bassman and holy shit did it make a huge difference! I don’t know much about the speakers I just know they’re supposed to be the original, and are fender branded, I think the closed versus open back cabinet sound makes a huge difference… I might look into building a new cabin instead of buying a new amp. I think that way I won’t beat up too much, the original and get a gnu sound that I’m happier with.
Maybe the fender Pro Reverb 68 custom? It’s got a channel that supposed to be voiced like a bassman (though it doesn’t really sound like a bassman), and as a 1x12 combo at 40 watts, it’ll probably do the trick. Also had a more classic 60s fender guitar channel for versatility, and the verb and trem run on both channels.
Fender constantly drives me crazy with their thing about calling things “the classic vintage 196X thing” but changing key specs. They do it with guitars, they do it with amps. “The Classic Feel 60’s Jazzmaster faithfully recreates the authentic vintage feel of a classic now with modern 13” fretboard radius” or some shit.
Pro Reverbs from ‘64 on were 2x12” combos. The Pro Reverb from 1968 is a 2x12” combo. So naturally, the Pro Reverb 68 Custom is a 1x12” combo.
I swear they do it just to fuck with me, personally.
Yeah it’s annoying as hell, even the “correct” reissues like the 65 black panel amps really aren’t authentic. The vintage ones break up earlier and differently.
The company has a history of tweaking and improving (or “improving”) the amps, that’s pretty normal…I just find it annoying when they market something as a reissue, or “vintage correct,” and it’s totally not.
That's a gorgeous looking JM, ya jerk. Hey, Rigs of My Dreams called, they want this back. Uh, nice vintage inspired strap nerd, ah I've got nothing...
I was for sure going to get the EHX one if anything. I thought a lot of going with an original 90s SOVTEK but also, I’m kind of tired of having to take care of Vintage amps, and would much prefer a long lasting new one. The circuit is exactly the same, except it has new switches, and pots, which are in fact better than the original.
The difference between 50 and 100 watts is mostly clean headroom, not volume. In low-medium gigs I'm not sure that there's a lot of difference, but try it! The 120w will surely be cleaner, the question is how clean you really need it to be for your application
Beautiful.
For the amp, have you thought of picking up a bassman clone? Ceriatone makes some great amps that’ll get you 95% there and you wouldn’t have to worry about it. Been gigging my jtm 45 clone for years
I’ve tried to search the Internet for bassman clones and haven’t had any luck, I’m new to Reddit so I think I have better luck asking you guys than Google. I will check out Ceriatone for sure!
Straighten your pedals! Literally unplayable with those 2 pedals slanted slightly to the right…
Kidding obviously. This rig is awesome! The black panel bassman is such a great amp. Enjoy!
Natural stained wooden door frames? Come on, mannn! That’s more 80s than that sick ‘81 pedal. And dark gray walls? Sheesh. That’s the best I got. Everything else is 🔥
The MIG50 will get the sound you want if you like the bassman. I don’t think it really does anything exceptional that the bassman can’t. Still one of the most overrated amps I’ve ever owned for the prices they command these days.
Consider checking out a Peavey Classic 50 combo. Cheap, great sounding, versatile, built like a tank, and they made tons of them and they’re everywhere so you’re not gonna be afraid to take it out and bang it up.
The only thing to roast here I guess is the fact that you know this is an amazing set up. My rig includes quite a few genuinely questionable items like my mouldy Vox AC15, the Boss ME70 ‘stop gap’ that I’ve been using for 10 years, the Turbo Rat with the knobs missing, the Strat with the cheap tort eBay pick guard, the Squier Jagmaster and the cheap pedalboard flight case full of crumbs. Yours is pure class.
If the twin is too big, then you're probably playing places where you could get away with a Princeton. And if it's more than just a small room, you can just mic it. As far as tone goes, the Princeton blows the AC30 out of the water. Just my 2 cents.
My suggestion for a lighter gigging amp is the Deluxe Reverb or Twin Reverb Tone Master. The tone is 95% what you'd expect from the tube counterparts...on stage with bass, drums, effects....no one would ever be able to tell the difference and they're way lighter. I'm in a surf band in NYC and gig with a Deluxe Reverb Tone Master...never had an issue in any club or venue with it not being loud enough.
A whammy with no bar! I see your vibrato has the button to lock it in place. Many of the modern ones are missing this feature, and not many people are even aware of it. I found it invaluable, especially if I broke a string in the middle of a performance. So, do you ever use the vibrato, and if not, do you use the button to lock it down?
I sure use the vibrato arm! I love the jazzmaster vibrato, I just take out the arm to practice because I get too distracted lol. I found the button lock, super useful live because sometimes I change tuning mid show and it makes my life easier!
Fun fact, pink was supposedly for boys before it was for girls. Before around 1890, in the US, fashionable small children of whatever gender were put white dresses. When pastels came in, pink was considered the “bolder” color and more suitable for boys. By the ‘40’s for some reason, being a reason probably as sensible as anything else to do with fashion, that got reversed.
I’d roast your rig but honesty you look like you’re a top 35 bed room guitarist for the greater highland park area of LA so I don’t think I can.
Top 35! That’s impressive as literally ever other person in HP plays! 😂
Yeah but he’s got a fender not a squier j masics JM so he’s easily better than 85% of them. (Jokes aside that pink is awesome)
I just bought a player jazzmaster, and my primary complaint is its not available in this pink
It’s just so late 50’s early 60’s looking to me in the best way.
It is. And I'm a big fan of finished headstocks. And I just like light pinks lol.
Something about a lighter shell pink is just calming.
Are you in HP?
Me? No San Diego. I go up there to visit friends though.
Sick, hows the shogaze scene down there these days? I might be staying in Hillcrest for a few months.
Honesty I don’t know. Most of my friends in bands either moved away or folded so I’m kinda disconnected. Let me know if you find any good shows while you’re out there. As for Hillcrest. Lots of fun, super gay, and close to all the other hip neighbourhoods and downtown.
This is so hilariously specific and right on.
Bassman and a shell pink offset, no complaints from me! https://i.ibb.co/VxFy7LY/20240208-212521.jpg
That's got to be my favorite jag I've seen ever!!! nice
Thanks a lot, we've both got exquisite taste bit would appear 😉
I hate both of you. Just bought a player jazzmaster and got a jag in 2020. Neither had shell pink as a finish option lol
Wow nice!
The Bassman can take it. You’re not going to find a lot of better amps than that. Unless you want a Pro Reverb. Easier to move, pretty close to the same deal. The guitar is lovely, also.
It's silly to have a great amp that you love and not gig it. I'd get another cab and a padded cover for the head if you're really worried.
Agreed, I’ve been gigging heavily with a bassman for the better part of ten years and it’s needed nothing aside from a power tube change.
My Bandmaster head is older than me and in better shape. These things are *built.*
nah, nothing to roast here, beautiful setup
That's an awful choice for a carpet. You better treat this beautiful lady with some respect and manners! A musicians rug is the mirror into his soul.
That carpet really ties the rig together.
Cool rig, cool rug. I’d maybe take a look at your own taste.
How’s your tinnitus?
Is that a matching headstock? I fucking love shell-pink, and I love it even more with a matching headstock!
Love it. Did you make any changes to your Jazzmaster or it came that way? Asking because I want to change the knobs, pickguard, and pickup covers on my JM and I'm wondering what color white yours are?
All stock!
I think its mint green
I thought so. Thanks for your reply.
I’ve… got nothing. Shit. This is, like, the most roast-resistant thing I’ve seen here. “I hate you because this is yours and not mine?” Does that count??
I’ll never understand the last in the chain tuner
more than anything to make a dramatic effect when you have a lot of delay and reverb and stop it abrouptly
Other than those two wonky pedals, I see nothing to roast here.
No whammy bar? Weenie! (I unabashedly love shell pink, BTW)
I slap it on and off, I take it out to practice cause I get distracted lol
Look everyone, it’s hello kitty Lee Ranaldo All jokes aside ! Nice Rig !
No
Why are all your pedals not Pink?
Believe me, I’ve thought about it, but I haven’t found a pink overdrive or a pink fuzz haha but there is a pink version of that 1981 and the boss dimension C It’s a great chorus.
It never leaves your bedroom at grannies house
I looked high and low for something to roast and the only thing I can find is that strap that can only be accompanied by a bunch of bulky bracelets and a scarf from Southeast Asia.
When you say "offset" are you referring to your mic positioning? Sorry, that's all I got. Kinda want a pink Jazzmaster now. I also like your pedal selection dammit.
Amazing rig! It’s always cool to see a perfect encapsulation of an absent parent’s love on Reddit. 😉
More like Basswoman

Very true! Idk anything about speakers tho, may try a new cab instead! What other speakers you think i must look into for a 2x12 cab?
not sure i can entirely help you there; generally i like a little more headroom/better efficiency (but i also keep the stock jensens in my bassman, 50W through them is plenty loud and just work with the cab). i like emi legends. never had a problem with them, and to my ear they sound relatively close to an old jensen ceramic sound, just louder and a little more high end. the jensen repros are a little too harsh, and i've gotten coil rub on a number of them (even undisturbed fender RI stock). my experience with other emis (e.g. patriot/redcoat) is hit or miss sound-wise, but they're well made.

So its like having penis envy for a Marshall
That’s when you snap off the ll and make it a Marsha
That's a gorgeous looking JM, ya jerk. Hey, Rigs of My Dreams called, they want this back. Uh, nice vintage inspired strap nerd, ah I've got nothing...
No 6G15? You're missing a key player in that rig there.
When you spend your child's college fund on a '66 bassman and can no longer afford a mic stand...
True story
If you want a cheaper stand in, you could get an ehx mig-50. It’s the old Sovtek mig50 that was based on a bassman and they are killer for the price
Yep, they are on my short list of amps to get. I planned to swap the ehx badge for a sovtek one just because it’s cooler, and feels more legit to me
Same!!
The difference between 50 and 100 watts is mostly clean headroom, not volume. In low-medium gigs I'm not sure that there's a lot of difference, but try it! The 120w will surely be cleaner, the question is how clean you really need it to be for your application

The only thing sucky here is that this isn’t my guitar! I love me some shell pink and the matching headstock is delightful.
Super lame for not inviting me over to jam #burn
That pink scratches an itch for me ngl
Love that pink
The position of the top two pedals is throwing me, but everything else is so cool!
Straighten your pedals! Literally unplayable with those 2 pedals slanted slightly to the right… Kidding obviously. This rig is awesome! The black panel bassman is such a great amp. Enjoy!
Two of your pedals are slightly askew... Roasted!
Mig 50 is loud and clean af! I wouldn’t be too concerned about that. JC-120 would certainly do the job though.
Wow can’t even keep your pedals straight on the board. Sloppy
Can't, it's flawless
I don’t think i will.
Friggin Nashville session wannabe. But seriously this rig looks like endless fun. Well done!
Lookin like a jizzmaster with that color
Natural stained wooden door frames? Come on, mannn! That’s more 80s than that sick ‘81 pedal. And dark gray walls? Sheesh. That’s the best I got. Everything else is 🔥
You think you’re better me!
What kind of pedal board is that?
It custom made but it’s falling apart from a year and a half use, might get a mono board
Awesome guitar bro
Unroastable rig
The MIG50 will get the sound you want if you like the bassman. I don’t think it really does anything exceptional that the bassman can’t. Still one of the most overrated amps I’ve ever owned for the prices they command these days. Consider checking out a Peavey Classic 50 combo. Cheap, great sounding, versatile, built like a tank, and they made tons of them and they’re everywhere so you’re not gonna be afraid to take it out and bang it up.
Thank man! Will check out :)
You don’t need that many tube screamer options. Zero tube screamers is enough
I found out the hard way… I think I’m getting a BD-2 to replace it!
It’s a nice rig and i struggled to find anything to roast you about so I just picked something absurd. Do you king!
Shell Pink Jazz is like a dream. Someday friend, someday. Sick rig man.
It’s gay
Ummm the delay pedal’s diagonal? Boom roasted
I'm sorry but WHY SO MUCH PEDALS
Your pedal board ain’t straight and neither are you.
Arent bf bandmasters still cheap? Get on of those in 1x12 combo cabinet
Just buy a mic stand…You have great investment into a potentially great sound, on a moving, $100 mic, haphazardly infront-ish of your amp.
I have a mic stand, but i use it for a 57, next investment has to be a r121
Have you looked at the extinct audio BM9? It sounds like a cross between a 121 and a Kohl’s 4038. I highly recommend them.
Noted! 👀
Orange amp isn’t big enough 😀
Offset pedals on the board. When most people say their shoegaze sounds don’t fit in conventionally, the mean sonically not physically.
You need to find more pink pedals. Start with a Boss HF-2.
Also a digital dimension!
If the twin is too big, then you're probably playing places where you could get away with a Princeton. And if it's more than just a small room, you can just mic it. As far as tone goes, the Princeton blows the AC30 out of the water. Just my 2 cents.
I considered a deluxe reverb, how does it compare to the Princeton?
Booooo, I know nothing about any of this stuff but booooooo👎,as requested.
It seems that you like fender?
get a mic stand for your mic
I like the color
Are those two pedals wonky as an emotional trigger for other instagram guitarists? 😉
[удалено]
Is that so?
My suggestion for a lighter gigging amp is the Deluxe Reverb or Twin Reverb Tone Master. The tone is 95% what you'd expect from the tube counterparts...on stage with bass, drums, effects....no one would ever be able to tell the difference and they're way lighter. I'm in a surf band in NYC and gig with a Deluxe Reverb Tone Master...never had an issue in any club or venue with it not being loud enough.
I’ve considered it! Must look into the tone master twin
What’s there to roast? This rig is awesome
Fucking shoegazer (fr though I love shoegaze)
Gorgeous man just gorgeous! And the jazzmaster that shell pink is just great!!
It’s so bad that you should give it to me.
What no Reverb tank? Get your head right.
Ew fender.

The knobs on your reverb/delay don't matter. Whatever noise it makes just works.
What was otherwise a beautiful rig is ruined by the absence of Yamaha THR 10 as your third amp.
Facts
Shell Pink Jazzmasters are the best instruments ever, no roasting here lmao
$200 Rat and $200 Tube Screamer are the only things I’m stopping to mention. Not sinful enough to warrant coming up with a clever roast joke.
Dude. Everything you have is awesome !
Looks great
Way better than mine I can’t say anything ahahahah
I know what kinda man you are.
I'd love to, but I have the exact same Boss digital delay pedal. And I love it.
I mean... What's to roast? That's a damn fine rig with nothing wrong... Even the little Orange Mini sounds amazing if hooked to a cab lmao
Why does all your shit look tiny? Are you a mouse? lol
“What? Play another kinks song? Heck yes!” *closes eyes*
😂😂
Affirm or credit card?
My god it’s gorgeous, maybe add a microphone stand but that’s a nitpick
Was all set to roast but that pinky totally disarmed me
Every time you start playing a riff your palm turns the volume down.
Pink is for girls! LOL wreckkkkkked!
Pink is gay.
Nice setup, what kinda pedal board is that?
Custom made! But it’s already tearing apart lol, looking to switch to a mono
you look like you like guitars… pfft… nerd
Reeee two of your pedals are crooked!!!11? Haha but seriously, sick rig
No, I want it.
