>water bottle covered in stickers, hiking poles, ski tickets, Patagonia jacket, dog, Subaru with a bike rack Yeah that works here too. A Hydroflask (not a yeti), with a nice Oregon or PNW sticker. Gift card to Powell's Books. Snack tower from Harry and David (I unironically like them and they're based in Medford). Jacket or pullover by Columbia Sportswear. Tillamook Sharp Cheddar cheese (or extra sharp vintage white Cheddar for an extra treat).

Camsgal

Squeaky cheese from Tillamook

DrunkyFummer

Nobody wears Columbia here except Columbia employees Edit: LOL Intel employees too, my bad. Yes I am 100% a snob, for good reason. I work for my money and I buy gear that lasts and has a legit warranty. I bike commute and enjoy the outdoors year round. Columbia stuff has let me down too many times. I think I have a sun shirt that has been good, but like much of their clothing, the fit is a bit…generous. For the same money you can do better. For a little more money you can do a LOT better. If I’m sleeping on some amazing Columbia shit please let me know! E2: still getting downvotes, haven’t received any suggestions for Columbia products that provide good value or quality.

rinky79

I mean, that's just categorically untrue. Maybe you're too snobby for it or whatever.

thedalailloyd

Too snobby for a yeti?

rinky79

Hydroflask/Yeti is a blue/red thing.

thedalailloyd

That doesn’t make sense to me. I have both and they get along fine. The yeti is better, hydro is good, I dont like rtic. Never heard about any of them being political, but ok. I guess when it comes to water bottles I’m an independent.

rinky79

I don't think the companies themselves are particularly political (at least not that I've heard), but Yetis are definitely favored more by the huntin/fishin demo (who else would pay $1500 for a cooler?), while Hydro Flasks are more the hiking/kayaking crowd.

pdfpdx

A lot of people who hunt and fish in this state are also into hiking and kayaking, and there are folks who are red and blue who do it all. Outdoor activities and outdoor equipment don't need to be made political.

ScruffySociety

I've got a ton of Columbia stuff. Screw that Patagonia hype.

L-W-J

Costco jar of Vitamin D. Gift card to the Columbia Outlet store. You are golden.

[deleted]

A nice tube of over-the-counter Narcan, and some rubber boots. Welcome to the neighborhood.

PsychologicalAd1238

Mushroom related items

Oregon_Odyssey

My wife and I moved from Fort Collins to Pendleton in 2020. We live in the Willamette Valley now. Two very, very different Oregon’s so be sure to know which your heading to.

Dragonman1976

Get him some Sweet Cron, a Bigfoot bumper sticker, and a few dank nugs. Welcome to Oregon 🤗

Lelabear

[Uncle Mikes Guide to the Real Oregon Coast](https://www.amazon.com/Uncle-Mikes-Guide-Oregon-Coast/dp/0965763811) A hilarious book that exposes the reality behind the Oregon Coast tourist brochures. Great for reading aloud at parties, gets the whole room laughing! Kinda pricey because there not many copies, it was a local phenomenon.

[deleted]

Awesome! I'll have to see if I can find it. We love stuff like that.

Aunt-jobiska

A Bigfoot mug. Face Rock Creamery (in Bandon) assorted cheese tray. Gift card to any local brewpub in the state.

micromacrodose

Vampire Slayer FTW!

Aunt-jobiska

In my fridge as we speak. I live in a Portland suburb & New Seasons Market carries a rotating selection.

TheStoicSlab

A 6-pack of local IPA and a Columbia rain jacket. Not Patagonia - although popular here are not based here (Columbia is).

OkUniversity6985

Hazelnuts, aka Filberts. Oregon grows 99% of all of them grown in the U.S.

aspiring_npc

This is the answer. I am eating Silverton grown filberts with backyard grown frozen blueberries as I read this thread.

Legumesrus

Well now I really want Coava

oldsweng1

They are going to be "we're hoping to go small town/middle of nowhere type of thing" so most of these ideas are Portland centric.

DetailsDetails00

Portland is exactly NOT small town/middle of nowhere. Why do people always assume Oregon=Portland, even in this sub?

cantbelieveit1963

This. I have lived in Oregon for 59 years. I haven’t been to Portland in about 10 years. These things found in Portland are all foreign to me as a Oregonian.

Careless_Freedom_868

A t shirt w/ OreGUNian on the front. 🤣

litho434

That’s most of Colorado outside the metro area anyways, so they should be good to go

Orcacub

Depends on where I’m Oregon you land. East side = high dry and cold, and few people or westside = lowlands, warmer, wetter and more people. Your CO starter kit would fit right in in Bend, OR. Coastal OR requires extra tuff boots, wool beanie rain bib overalls etc..

Samad99

1) Oregon Coast Beachwear (rain jacket) 2) 4-pack of IPA from locally owned brewery 3) AllTrails premium subscription 4) Pendleton shirt (preferably vintage) 5) Rain-X windshield wiper fluid 6) Hop Pass (for public transit) 7) Piece of art purchased off the wall of a coffee shop (maybe give him an I.O.U. to pick one out)

No_Bee9815

Literally anything related to the Japanese garden as that is the answer to the hourly what should I do in pdx question.

PBYACE

A bag of Kettle Chips, salmon sticks from Chuck's Seafood in Charleston, local beer, or wine.

Psychclawps

Best starter pack would be winning Lotto Tickets to ensure that you can afford housing in Oregon

BourbonicFisky

\> water bottle covered in stickers, hiking poles, ski tickets, Patagonia jacket, dog, Subaru with a bike rack This is fairly applicable to basically every blue city in a blue state. As someone from from rural/small town on the southern Oregon coast. I really do hope you know what you're getting into but at the same time, much of rural Oregon needs fresh eyes, new perspectives and new blood. There's towns in Oregon that are brimming with potential (Roseburg comes to mind, great location for outdoors, some good bones parts of the downtown buildings, close enough to Eugene your culture fix and easy to get to the Oregon coast for a day trip to Bandon). There's more to Oregon than Portland, Salem, Eugene, Bend, Corvallis, Astoria, Newport, Ashland, and Hood River shouldn't be the only places in Oregon that people recommend moving to. It's a big state.

kayla622

Subaru Outback (okay, maybe a bit expensive for a Christmas gift) A bottle of pinot noir from an Oregon winery (E.g., Willamette Valley Vineyards in Turner, Sweet Cheeks in Crow, Sokol Blosser in Dundee) A craft beer from an Oregon brewery (e.g., Deschutes in Bend, Pelican in Cannon Beach, Double Mountain in Hood River, Ninkasi in Eugene) Some sort of Oregon pride sticker, either I <3 Oregon, or Orygun, or something. Do not call Oregon, "Or-eh-gone." You'll stick out like a sore thumb and locals will know immediately that you're from somewhere else. Something Pendleton wool Tillamook cheese Columbia Sportswear-something (Adidas and Nike are also based in Oregon, but I don't think they're as identified with Oregon as Columbia) An Oregon State Parks pass. Oregon has a lot of beautiful state parks, but many have day use fees. The park pass is annual. Something Crater Lake-related--Oregon's only National Park. Things that are related to Oregon's "official state \_\_\_\_\_" STATE FLOWER: Oregon Grape STATE BIRD: Western Meadowlark STATE ROCK: Thunderegg STATE TREE: Douglas Fir STATE FISH: Chinook Salmon STATE ANIMAL: Beaver (also pictured the back of Oregon's state flag, the only 2-sided flag in the country) STATE INSECT: Swallowtail butterfly If you wanted to get really nerdy, Oregon's birthday is on Valentine's Day, not sure how to incorporate that. \*\*\*Having grown up in the state capital, Salem, we seemed to have a lot of Oregon/Salem-centric activities. In 1989, when I was in kindergarten, it was also Oregon's 130th birthday. We spent a lot of time learning about the "state" whatever. A few years prior, they had re-applied the gold leafing to the Pioneer Man on top of the Capitol building and somehow samples of the gold leafing was brought in for the kids to see/touch.

[deleted]

Very interesting. So if it isn't or-eh-gone what is it? I guess I pronounce it or-a-gone right now.

kayla622

It’s pronounced or-uh-gun. The “Orygun” stickers you can/could buy depict the phonetic spelling.

PDXisadumpsterfire

OR is very dog-friendly, so if you and BF already have a dog, accessories to bring Rover more places, like collapsible water bowls for travel and hiking. And if you don’t have a Rover yet and are in a position suitable to add a canine family member… 😎

TheMacAttk

Apparently bagels are a thing here? Also big foot. And weed. Lots of weed. Everything else from Co more or less applies, though the rumor is the RAV4 is overtaking the Subarus.

litho434

Toyota > Subaru. Keep up the RAV4 takeover >:)

rinky79

I love my 2017 Forester but when it dies, I will probably get a Rav4 Prime (plug-in hybrid). Unless Subaru provides me with a Subi plug-in option by then.

DL535E

I think RAV4 took over the sales crown in 2022.

BIMIMAN

1. Black and red checkered flannel 2. Small axe 3.depending on where you moving a rain jacket/windbreaker. 4. Some sweet Oregon dank 5. Mushrooms( if your into that) 6. A Sasquatch sticker 7. Toyota Tacoma 8. A tattoo of a pine tree

Samad99

Sounds about right for a transplant

WolverineRelevant280

Klamath falls is the perfect place for you two! Check it out. It a small town heaven on earth.

pdx_mom

Hazelnuts. Marion Berry flavored everything.

Oretex22

A stop at Sleepy Monk coffee, a day crabbing at Kelly’s Brighton Marina, and a personal campfire on Manzanita beach to end the night with a custom sandwich and a cookie from The Little Apple Deli in Manzanita. It doesn’t get much more Oregonian than that.

[deleted]

You're better off staying wherever you are.

edercampuzano

Swap out the Patagonia for a Columbia jacket and you’ve already got it. Maybe toss an empty growler in for good measure

ShaperLord777

A bag of hazelnuts (filberts), a beanie, a weed pen, an espresso, and blazers jersey.

[deleted]

A case of local beers, a six pack of local hard ciders, 34 bottles of local wine and 69 bottles of locally distilled spirits and an off road electric scooter!!

[deleted]

And a big bag of weed!
