Little late but..who'd have guessed [UrinatingTree](https://i.ibb.co/WyKBhPK/RDT-20230422-0314433998435507757995741.jpg) has a Hula Bird Bobble
That was a giveaway on [8/10/19](https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BAL/BAL201908100.shtml)
Thus I can only conclude to blame him for how bad thst game was.
Two games attended this season, two walk off O's wins. And tonight, I got my first foul ball ever, and I'm in my 40s, going to games since I was five years old.
I'm gonna need to get out to the park more this year.
Just got home from the game and love a win love a walk off what a night but the offense is abysmal still. this wasnt the astros this was the fucking tigers. no reason thats a 2-1 game. again though what a night it was
We hold the top wild card rn too.
There is prob going to be at least 2 AL East teams with over 100 wins. Maybe 3 or 4 over 90. It’s a killer division, and we play each other less. The rest of the AL is going to be complaining about the East at the end of the season. Guaranteed.
Dude u got that right.. I just wish so bad Os had tried to trade for Pablo Lopez in off season. I thought 4sure when he wasnt traded at all star break last year that we would go after him. But Twins did and he is freaking dealing. But its ok our rotation is coming around and if Grayson can get over 1st inning jitters we really do have a front line ACE
4 game win streak and 8 out of last 10! Love for us to go on a huge win streak. playing detroit 5 out of next 8 helps.. Just need to take care of our kryptonite Boston. I feel like redsox always give us hell
It seems over the years Detroit always plays us tough, no matter how bad they are.
Last night is an example, their starter is kinda average, but came out pitching one of the games of his life. It took Wells' stellar effort for us to hang with them.
Don't expect them to roll over in these next two games.
When the game is tied, or a team is behind, then if and when the team tied or behind takes the lead, the pitcher of record (last on the mound = Bautista in this case) gets the win. Except that if it's the starter, the starter must go at least 5 innings to get the W. (In the unusual case where a starter does not go 5 but leaves with the lead and the team holds the lead through the game, then the official scorer can give the W to whichever reliever impresses him/her as having done the best job.)
I know, I know, this makes W - L record kind of a dumb stat. I believe knowledgeable people think ERA and WHIP are better indicators of who's a good pitcher. Especially since, as in the case of Wells, some pitcher's teams just hardly ever seem to score any runs for them.
There is a rule that makes it a judgment call for the scorer but it typically only applies in a situation where a relief pitcher is deemed ineffective (e.g. gives up 3 runs in an inning and then team come back to win).
In this case, the scorer can award the win to another reliever such as Baker but not the starting pitcher.
Giving up 1 or 2 runs is not enough to stop being pitcher of record for the win.
Wells should have 2 wins (this one and Texas game) but rules say Columbe and Bautista get the win.
So starters can get the win if they go 5+ and the team is winning before the next pitcher pitches, but once it’s tied up, the winner then becomes whoever was pitching when they retake the lead. This happens a lot where the blown save weirdly becomes a win.
Because Mountcastle is actually 2nd on the team in sprint speed, and the fastest 1B in baseball.
https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/team/110?view=statcast&nav=running&season=2023
Why would they? Mateo was out so it would either be McCann or O’Hearn, neither’s a big enough upgrade to justify taking Mountie out with a potential extra innings
not like we're asking felix bautista to play first. mountcastle hasnt had a bat all week so we're not exactly losing a ton with a new first baseman for an inning
Foot speed is for fielding purposes mainly. His straight line speed is good.
https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/ryan-mountcastle-663624
82nd percentile sprint speed.
Mateo is day to day with a knee thing. O'hearn and McCann were available, so Ryan was the best option.
(I only know this cuz I was also trying to figure out why there wasn't a pitch runner)
Thank you! An intelligent response. I was at work all day and didn’t know who was left on the bench, was driving home listening to 1090 and asked myself out loud “why aren’t they running for MC”? That makes perfect sense. Thanks!
Y'know... I wouldn't say it wasn't pretty. Wells was cruising and in control, Hays gave us some drama, and our new guy came thru. Felix was concerning, but if you wanna talk "not pretty," talk about all those 13-11 Keystone Kops Klusterfucks two weeks ago.
Are you expecting a rainout tomorrow? Not gonna lie, that would actually work out really well for me personally, since I'm busy during tomorrow's game.
I mean, this is I think the second time he's given up a run so far this year? I could be wrong, but last time I remember him giving up a run was opening weekend.
He'll be fine.
Tyler wells is in FORM.
Hope we score some runs for him. Can’t leave him out to dry like we’ve done for many pitchers in the past including Lyles most recently
In years past, when run production dropped like a rock, Orioles pitching did NOT keep the club in games and/or the W column. Now we are seeing decent pitching getting wins while the bats are quiet. When (not if) both are operating at their peak, this ballclub has the real potential to be scary good.

Rockies, well you know.
Padres just running into bad luck which will be changing.
Dodgers don’t have an excuse. Their bullpen fell apart, their outfield is a mess, and they have a black hole in their lineup.
> *Dodgers don’t have an excuse. Their bullpen fell apart, their outfield is a mess, and they have a black hole in their lineup.*
Also they have no shortstop. I'm surprised they haven't been calling us, we keep a fine assortment of various shortstops. But, they *will* cost you.
With Yankees 6-1 down, looks like we're moving into 2nd place and AL wild card lead ... 4.5 games behind the Rays and ahead of Blue Jays and Yankees for other WCs.
F\*ck the AL East - the difference between making and missing the playoffs for the O's may be the balanced vs unbalanced schedule.
Having watched him for his entire Mariners tenure, I never understood how he ended up producing so little because he always took good ABs and played solid defense. I’m just glad he gave me the nudge I needed to watch my actual hometown team.
Blood pressure? Raised.
Wells? Needs to stay in the rotation.
Mountain? Forgiven.
Hays? Bounce back year.
Baker? Lockdown.
Mounty? Speed demon.
Frazier? Owner of the Blue Jays AND clutch god.
I didn't get a chance to watch the game, but I did check the score often and "watched" the final at bats through the ESPN app.
Frazier was about to give me a panic attack 0-2, but we got it done.
ORIOLES WIN! LET'S GO O'S!
Love the team, but odds are we will bounce around throughout the season. Everyone is too good for that not to be the case. It’s going to be an exciting race this year.
We won, but I lost my parlay due to no Adley hit

Adam Frazier has already done great things for this team. It was easy to hate the signing but days like today are what the Orioles were hoping for when they bought low on him. I think the pitching was great. The umps had a bit of a rocky game and made questionable calls both ways. Seems like they get worse every season.
WE'RE 5 GAMES OVER. 500. THE ORIOLES ARE BACK
In some ways it feels like they've stopped trying because they know robo umps are coming.
With the A's for example, the team itself is bad, the organization is planning to move soon, the experience in the stadium is supposedly not great from what admittedly little I know, why bother caring?
With the umps, they know it's a matter of time until ABS comes in, it's already being tested in AAA, it's a question of when not if they'll be replaced for strike zone calls, why even try to get better?
Yea the bats need to wake up. Hopefully Adley gets out of his slump and Gunnar gets going. Nervous to see what happens when they stop facing pitchers with bloated ERA's
Definitely. It’s great that the bats have been good when the pitching struggled and vice versa, but the offense needs to be a little more consistent. Especially since they can’t play teams like the A’s, Nats, and Tigers forever.

I was there with 5 people who had never been to a baseball game before. It was brutal
Two games attended this season, two walk off O's wins. And tonight, I got my first foul ball ever, and I'm in my 40s, going to games since I was five years old. I'm gonna need to get out to the park more this year.
Thank you for your service
Hell of a game and crowd. Gotta get that offense rolling but enjoyed the pitching for sure. 2 away from a sweep!
Just got home from the game and love a win love a walk off what a night but the offense is abysmal still. this wasnt the astros this was the fucking tigers. no reason thats a 2-1 game. again though what a night it was
We are currently 5th in the MLB in runs per game
Hilariously, Astros lost their home series to the Tigers.
christ but mainly referencing the outstanding starting and relief pitching they had last year because we shouldve hung 10 on these guys
Baseball is hard. Very rarely is everything working at the same time.
We're in second place in the east and finally have a higher percent chance to make the playoffs than the Sox according to fangraphs
We hold the top wild card rn too. There is prob going to be at least 2 AL East teams with over 100 wins. Maybe 3 or 4 over 90. It’s a killer division, and we play each other less. The rest of the AL is going to be complaining about the East at the end of the season. Guaranteed.
Tied with Texas for 2nd best AL record
And we put a bird on their asses
This team is about to fuck around and be dangerous
let me see us play against quality teams for a month before i agree or disagree. we've played AAA teams and the rangers so
And the Rangers needed deGrom to stop us and he barely could. We’re winning the AL East baby!
Lol it does kinda figure that the year we start cookin, the Rays of all teams start to have the season of a lifetime
Holliday: 3/6, 2 HR (2), 4 RBI
I havent been following him. Has he been raking to start season?
These are his first HRs I think, but he's has high average and high obp so far.
Fuck it, call him up to the show
It’s so nice to have a decent team
Dude u got that right.. I just wish so bad Os had tried to trade for Pablo Lopez in off season. I thought 4sure when he wasnt traded at all star break last year that we would go after him. But Twins did and he is freaking dealing. But its ok our rotation is coming around and if Grayson can get over 1st inning jitters we really do have a front line ACE
I’d imagine they tried but the Marlins wanted an MLB player and Urias can’t top Arraez.
4 game win streak and 8 out of last 10! Love for us to go on a huge win streak. playing detroit 5 out of next 8 helps.. Just need to take care of our kryptonite Boston. I feel like redsox always give us hell

The first series was a fluke. I’m not worried about Boston.
ORIOLES = WIN. STANKS = LOSE. A DEEPLY SATISFYING DAY.
I like our guys
I just like the duck.
Y u no luv
They’ll come around, we all do
Gunner’s bat coming to life? You got this dude!
What did it cost? Every other bat in the stadium.
Happy to see Henderson smoke one into the gap tonight. He got jipped on the call in his last strikeout. Would love to see the kid get the bat going.
Crazy that he has the 4th best OBP on the team while batting .185
exactly why im not worried about this "slump"
Exactly. When they start actually pitching to him, he'll hit.
Adley needs a day off
we had 2 days off this week. and he will get off sunday afternoon as well..
He has been ice cold since the walk off, he will get Sunday off catching but he needs a proper day off of not playing
What a win! O's killing it lately, one way or another. Last year was not a fluke. We are past the point of being shitty.
I’m a little confused, why did Bautista get the W when he gave up a run and Wells was scoreless?
When the game is tied, or a team is behind, then if and when the team tied or behind takes the lead, the pitcher of record (last on the mound = Bautista in this case) gets the win. Except that if it's the starter, the starter must go at least 5 innings to get the W. There is a rule that makes it a judgment call for the scorer but it typically only applies in a situation where a relief pitcher is deemed ineffective (e.g. gives up 3 runs in an inning and then team come back to win). Wins are dumb
Because we didn't hold the lead and won when he was technically still in the game.
Bautista was the “pitcher of record” meaning he was the last guy to pitch before the orioles took the lead
Pitcher of record when the game was tied, then we won, so he gets the win.
He was the pitcher of record when the O's took the lead.
Maybe it’s already been mentioned here: why did Hyde not pinch run for Mountcastle?
Because Mountcastle is actually 2nd on the team in sprint speed, and the fastest 1B in baseball. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/team/110?view=statcast&nav=running&season=2023
Why would they? Mateo was out so it would either be McCann or O’Hearn, neither’s a big enough upgrade to justify taking Mountie out with a potential extra innings
If Mateo was unavailable I'm not sure McCann or O'Hearn are any faster.
was mateo unavailable? i thought he said pregame he was available and 100% tomorrow. maybe he wasnt talking about today
Seriously? Who would play first if it went into extras lol? Omg. O’Hearn? Lolol
Yes. O’Hearn would play first. Not sure why that’s an “LOL” because that’s his position.
Haha so you’ll bring a cold guy in to play first in the 10th inning? It’s not a plug and play like right or left. Jesus. This sub sometimes
not like we're asking felix bautista to play first. mountcastle hasnt had a bat all week so we're not exactly losing a ton with a new first baseman for an inning
If there’s a plug and play position in the infield it’s definitely first base lol wtf are you talking about
Yes. And you are a perfect example of a know nothing. It’s not boxing. Are you Redraven’s alt account?
😆 😆 😆
Exactly. You’re a point of comedy for us.
For *us* Define *us*
Actual fans of this team who engage in intelligent discussion.
I’m a huge fan. I didn’t see a problem with not pinch running Mountcastle. That’s literally it.
Mountcastle is 82nd percentile in sprint speed. He is actually much faster than people think.
Sneaky fast 😂 a real gym rat
Mounty actually has pretty good speed, and all the likely pinch run candidates weren't available.
Also, Mounty does not have any kind of speed. In fact when he was brought up a big deal was made about his lack of foot speed.
Foot speed is for fielding purposes mainly. His straight line speed is good. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/ryan-mountcastle-663624 82nd percentile sprint speed.
Fair enough.
I was surprised when I saw it too lol
Mateo wasn’t available? Who else was on the bench?
Mateo is day to day with a knee thing. O'hearn and McCann were available, so Ryan was the best option. (I only know this cuz I was also trying to figure out why there wasn't a pitch runner)

Just got to work and watched the ending!!! 12-7 LFG 🔥 ![gif](giphy|MZX52gfs870KVlK3vR|downsized)
We are witnessing the transition in to the golden age of Orioles baseball!
It was witnessed last year. We're already in it
We need to bottle this feeling and save it for early May when we play Tampa (17-3) and Atlanta(14-6) ..and the Pirates ?!? (14-7)
I will take a .500 May
It wasn't pretty but a win's a win.
Y'know... I wouldn't say it wasn't pretty. Wells was cruising and in control, Hays gave us some drama, and our new guy came thru. Felix was concerning, but if you wanna talk "not pretty," talk about all those 13-11 Keystone Kops Klusterfucks two weeks ago.
Wells was great but the O's offense was off tonight.
and all last series. need a day off tomorrow and come out hot for a doubleheader. absolutely need three wins here
Odds on a Sunday double header?
Are you expecting a rainout tomorrow? Not gonna lie, that would actually work out really well for me personally, since I'm busy during tomorrow's game.
95%. gonna pour all day and night. no reason to push it and cancel at like 8 since they can still play sunday
Sweet. Bought tickets for Sunday’s game. I’ve never done a double header and I bought a new camera last week too.
Almost 100%. I’d bet it’ll be single admission, too.
Def tempting to go
glad the bullpen has gotten it together by and large. Bautista.....im not too worried......but we need some other options in case he comes unglued.
I mean, this is I think the second time he's given up a run so far this year? I could be wrong, but last time I remember him giving up a run was opening weekend. He'll be fine.
last two times out he didn't have good command of splitter. without the splitter working he is Jorge Julio with a few more mph
Tyler wells is in FORM. Hope we score some runs for him. Can’t leave him out to dry like we’ve done for many pitchers in the past including Lyles most recently
Pitching has been awesome! If we can start finding our bats more consistently we can keep rolling!

Schoopie is one of those guys that I still miss and hope he’s doing well.
SOLE POSSESSION OF SECOND PLACE!!!!!!!!!
Anybody have any intel on the fans that were wearing the orioles mask?! I kinda need one.

Big win!!! Also, Rays scores 3 in the btm of the 9th to win 😒. At least the yankees are still losing.
#NOODLE BAT MANIA
Frazier!
All caps ENGAGED.
What a tease. Really edged for that win
Also, I assume they didn’t go for the double play because if Frazier beat it out we would have won anyway.
One does not simply double up Adam Frazier
The fielder judged there was no DP chance, and was probably right. It was a high chopper that spent a lot of time in the air after the bounce.

Love the confidence
Love the team, but odds are we will bounce around throughout the season. Everyone is too good for that not to be the case. It’s going to be an exciting race this year.
I thought you meant because we’ll eventually take 1st and stay there
I really like this strategy of outscoring the other team.

Jesus, TB found a way to win again. Alone in 2nd place feels nice, though.
Apparently they like the W. Sox bullpen as much as we do, LOL !!!! Anyway, hey **AT LEAST THE STANKS ARE LOSING, BADLY IN BOTTOM OF THE 9TH !!!!!!**

I told you, fellas. We would just walk it off. No problem. :D
I disliked having to pull out the walk off. But Jesus. That W felt so good.
You love to see it
Blew the lead but didn't require any extra pitching. Plus the pressure of the streak is off now! Couldn't have ended any better way
Frasier has Odor clutch energy with consistency *chef kiss
Orioles magic intensifies!!
I LOVE EARLY LIFE HEART PROBLEMS
Great win, Tigers have had our number in recent history. Good shit guys.
People forget Mounty has 82 percentile spring speed this year lol. Even if it was a little exciting, great to see. And 34.2 scoreless innings.

Stressful But probably the shortest walk off hit I have ever seen.
That’s just part of the Adam Frazier Experience.
Was a fielder's choice. But hey, game winning RBI is worth extra brownie points !!!!!!!!!
Guess I have never seen a walk off fielders choice.
Pitching now bailing out the offense. My my how the turn tables.
Luv to see it. Much better than watching one or the other facet fall just short.
Hot take: I prefer when the orioles score a lot of runs.
Yea the bats need to wake up. Hopefully Adley gets out of his slump and Gunnar gets going. Nervous to see what happens when they stop facing pitchers with bloated ERA's
When they face pitchers with low ERAs , that's when they start mashing the ball. Makes absolutely no sense, but .............
It's like going back and playing on easy after getting used to hard mode, your timing is all wrong.
Gunnar had a double today, at least
Definitely. It’s great that the bats have been good when the pitching struggled and vice versa, but the offense needs to be a little more consistent. Especially since they can’t play teams like the A’s, Nats, and Tigers forever.
It's a good day to be a Full Time Mountcastle Stan :)
You almost had to be called in for overtime tonight
