Hey, so, I just got back into baseball last year and I've seen some new stats I don't recognize.
When the stat line says "Akin(H, 2)" what does that mean? That he held the win, basically did his job? I'm used to W,L,S,BS but not H
Thanks in advance
Not that it’s anything new, obviously, but their fans having a meltdown and literally suggesting to boycott games at 13-10 is insane to me. Every time you think you’ve figured out just how annoying they are, they one-up themselves.
Most entitled, insufferable “fans” in all of organized sports.
My brother-in-law is a lifelong Sox fan, and while he's not a ridiculous insufferable fan, he definitely has less of a sense for what everyone else feels.
Honestly? I dont see why we cant. There is not really any glaring or obvious numbers going on pointing at a regression. In fact i could say we might get even better. We are winning these games despite bats being pretty cold majority of the wins during this current streak. Guys like Santander, Gunnar, Mountcastle etc all are going to heat up at some point. We get back two HUGE late inning bullpen pieces in Tate and Gyvens soon. John Means will add to the rotation depth etc.. Obviously we arent going to be winning 7 straight every month but we dont need to. Just win series.
I know this doesn’t have to do with this game but just thought folks should know that Franchy Cordero, who a lot of folks were crucifying Elias for not keeping, is batting .174 with a .665 OPS. Just goes to show that sometimes an extremely hot spring doesn’t translate to regular season success.
Yup. In a sense, having these new haters jump on is a good thing- it's a sign that we are now interesting enough to attract low-hangers in the emotional sports fan category.
Same thing that happened over at r/ravens. Although, I guess I’m part of the influx as an “newly active fan”. I’ve been a fan my whole life but never as invested as I’ve been since last year. Haven’t missed a game yet, sadly that streak will end tomorrow when I have to be in the office for an in person meeting. I’ll get the end of the game up on my phone afterwards though. Let’s Go O’s!
I left at the top of the 7th and was too chicken the check the score until the game would certainly be over even in case of a 14-15 dick punching loss in extras.
I legitimately cannot believe 1 run was enough against this Boston team that is 95th+ percentile in xDAWG, especially now that I see they had Tapia on 2nd with no outs in the 9th (!)
Other thoughts...
- 0 strikeouts and 4 GIDP? Are you serious? 13 hits for only 5 runs, with an xBA of .371.
- How sweet was the final line out? Reminds me of the last out of the Means no-no, although I think Urias was at short.
- I know we all would like a true front-line starter*, but I keep being amazed that the minor trades/signings have not infrequently paid off: Frazier's ability to simply _not_ strikeout, McCann's bat and framing, Gibson's poise, Irvin's uh, Irvin... having an option so we can keep Grayson on the team.
- Kremer having near-terminal meatballitis means he really cannot afford to be walking anybody because it always feels like lead off walks score on him.
- *Hard to think of many teams with an ace on the verge of blowing it up though. Cease isn't an FA until 2026, so there's approximately a 0.00% chance we get him. Everyone else rich in pitching talent is on the come up or has gone all-in.
Not entirely true.. A pitcher that I hope Os look at and after at deadline is Corbin Burnes. Burnes and the Brewers failed to come to an agreement in arbitration, and the dispute went to a hearing. Burnes said he was disappointed to hear Milwaukee blaming their lack of a playoff berth in 2022 on him and acknowledged that his relationship with the club was severely damaged... If this stays this way Os would b silly not to call brewers and get a deal for a package of our prospects. Kid is a STUD.. Another name is German Marquez from the Rockies.. You look at his numbers you prob would say meh. But Pitching half your games or more in mile high colorado attributes to that big time. For example Last season his ERA at home was 6.70.. On the road it was 3.30. Burnes is the frontline young ace I WOULD LOVE. Bur Marquez would absolutely be a great addition to middle of this rotation. Those are just 2 names ive been following for a possible deadline deal.. More will become interesting as season goes on
#
The Brewers are performing well enough that I think it's very unlikely they'd part with Burnes. Marquez, though, that's not a bad thought. Might be hard to sell the fanbase on picking up another former Rockie though :)
Took my friends to the game tonight and they had a blast. Was one of my friends first baseball games and they really enjoyed it. Also got on the Jumbo Tron (they caught me picking my teeth the bastard) for the first time in my life
What a game
Loved it so much
After 4 starts? Nah, not yet. He seems to be somewhere in between 2021 Kremer who gave up 17 HR in 53 innings and 2022 Kremer who had a knack for wriggling out of trouble.
im not giving up on a player with options left.....but if Means comes back later, someone is going to be the odd man out.
we can afford to have 1 starter be kind of weak....but not 3.
Kremer's starts haven't been about one bad inning. He literally only has one pitch working right now, and doesn't seem to have any movement in the offspeed or secondary stuff.
I mean at some point we might have to pick someone to go once Means gets back. Rodriguez, Bradish, and Wells have all looked for more promising than him.
Means is getting back until end of July. Means is not going to be some savior and they need to have the pitching to get to that point when he comes back that they are still competing. Kremer only has a long leash because Irvin shit the bed. If DL Hall ever actually develops ( at this point I don’t think he does) he is Kremers replacement
Yes he has started throwing. And these days having TJ hasn’t impacted players nearly as much as it used to. There have been several successful cases in the last 5 years or so.
Best not to be in the spotlight. Let TB & the Pirates have the attention. We’ll just quietly win games.

I really hope Orioles dont dick around. we need to Lock up Adley like they did Franco.. And they did that with Franco after a decent rookie season. Its smart. You allow franco to win a mvp or get c2 or 3 consecutive all star appearences etc that contract is going to be ALOT more.. Adley should b locked up during this season tbh
I was pretty sure O's were due for a loss tonight. Glad I was wrong! There still not hitting well, but keep winning anyway. This is a team, similar to last year, where the whole is greater then the sum of it's parts. Each game, they do just enough to win and there never out of any game. Darn impressive. Team baseball at it's best.
I'm in New England watching the NESN postgame show, the Red Sox manager and every analyst all think the Red Sox lost only because of the umps. Not because their ace didn't have it tonight and couldn't get key outs, lol.
I mean, the ump did fucking blow for sure. That scorecard is gonna be something, there were some calls that I def was like “yikesssss”. But they also blew a 4 run lead lol.

Belo, I can’t even tell you how much joy these give me every time. After every win I know I can read your breakdown and giggle about how good our baseball team is. You’re doing the lord’s work, big ups bro bro
(We should put this in the FAQ) It's a reference to a Direct Mortgage Loans commercial that runs, or at least it used to, between innings during O's games on the radio. They would always mutter "NMLS: 832799" at the end, referring to their registration number. It kept sticking in my head when I'd listen to O's games, and once I used it in a Lovely Totals™ post, and it stuck. Now people get mad when I *don't* reference it.
I'm glad the offense stepped up and got us out of a real ugly start. Was really worried we'd have a low score game like our last couple. God that Red Sox dugout whined, surprised they only had 1 ejection
I assumed it was just Hyde splitting the closer duty since Cano has proven several times already he can pitch in the big spots and Felix needed a rest.
Didn't he pitch the 9th yesterday? And he's been used a lot lately, so a day off for him makes sense.
Cano looked very good. Did get lucky on the one smoked to Urias, though. Hey, we'll take it. That sort of thing seems to work against us all the time.
The Braves' perfect game was broken up in the 7th on an error by the first baseman. Still a chance at a no-hitter. But that would give Severino's PB on a strikeout a run for its money as far as horrible ways to lose a PG go
That was my favorite win of the season to date.
-Nothing going, down 4-0, Kremer bad.
-score 5 over the next 3 innings. Kremer settled in.
-everyone got at least 1 hit.
-Sale didn’t get a single strikeout. NOT ONE!
-bullpen 3.1 scoreless and didn’t even use our best guy to rest him.
-runner on 2nd with no outs in 9th and Cano strands him with his first save.
-ANNNNNND the Sox were bitching.
What did I miss!?
The O's were 16-24 last year after 40 games when Adley Rutschman made is MLB debut on Preakness Day.
Now this year the O's are 15-7 after 22 games.
Adley helped change the culture of this team to be winners. The new veterans and the young players that were not around during the difficult years only see this team as winners.
The O's were 83-79 overall last year. They were 67-55 (0.549) after Adley arrived.
Including their 15-7 start this season, the O's are 82-62 (0.569) in the 144 games since Adley arrived. At that winning percentage, the O's would be 92-70 after 162 games, which would require them to go 10-8 over the next 18 games.
Definitely agree, Adleys* arrival brought a noticeable change in the energy both with the team and the fans.
Edit: have not sufficiently trained autocorrect on Adley
Related; Maryland was the only state to be represented on both sides of the battle at Antietam in Sharpsburg, MD.
That’s just fun information I like dropping when I get a chance.
Funnish fact: the Maryland state flag has the banners for the Pro-Union (the Yellow and Gold) and Pro-Confederate (the Red and White) sides of the civil war. So them being together on our state flag not only looks baller as hell, but also reflects our nuanced political status and cultural mix during the Civil War where we had both sides represented in large numbers within the state.
I started a kitchen remodel today, came in at 5am (pacific time) so I could quit early and be home in time to watch. Holeee crap. One of the few good decisions I've made.
Man I normally never lurk opposing team subs but Reddit suggested a meme from the red Sox sub today, all the comments were about how they were gonna sweep us and take 1st in the AL East
All I can say to that is L O L
What a game, fellas!!!!!
I know kremer did not pitch well enough to get a "quality start," but in my eyes he did. This game started ugly. It could've gotten out of hand so fast. But after giving up four, he found his composure and gave them no more. Well done, in my opinion.
Great win. Hell of a night!
Kevin Brown lowkey talks a lot of shit and I love it.
“And he strikes out with the best of them!”
7 straight! Who cares about the Rays and 13-0. Whether you do it games 1-13 or games 16-28 it’s still 13 in a row.
Hey, so, I just got back into baseball last year and I've seen some new stats I don't recognize. When the stat line says "Akin(H, 2)" what does that mean? That he held the win, basically did his job? I'm used to W,L,S,BS but not H Thanks in advance
[Hold.](https://www.mlb.com/glossary/standard-stats/hold)
Awesome, thank you! I thought so but multiple places said that hold was usually abbreviated HLD, so you never know
No problem! I’ve never seen HLD before, that was new to me!
Doesn't make any sense why you abbreviate it HLD and not H so I'll be happy if I never see it again!
I think because H is the abbreviation for hits.
[Best abbreviation ever](https://youtu.be/Izp52QUeSzQ)
Just saying - it would be reeeeeally cool to be 17-7 at the end of this homestand.
1 run win kings So nice to have a competent backup catcher
Baker and Coulombe continuing to be pretty damn good. Cano... I just have no words. Sad I couldn't catch this game!
Yankees lose! It's SOOOO satisfying to see the Yankees and Red Sox at the bottom of the division. God if we could just keep this up.....
Not that it’s anything new, obviously, but their fans having a meltdown and literally suggesting to boycott games at 13-10 is insane to me. Every time you think you’ve figured out just how annoying they are, they one-up themselves. Most entitled, insufferable “fans” in all of organized sports.

We have a small but very loud group that are just miserable and criticize everything Elias does.
They have to be new, right? When we sucked and hired Elias, it felt like everyone was chill.
Yup. In a sense, having these new haters jump on is a good thing- it's a sign that we are now interesting enough to attract low-hangers in the emotional sports fan category.

Every starter got a hit too. And only 1 walk. They could have put up 10 runs
On top of all of that, the Os survive hitting into 4 double plays. That’s how Boston kept the score close.
Not entirely true.. A pitcher that I hope Os look at and after at deadline is Corbin Burnes. Burnes and the Brewers failed to come to an agreement in arbitration, and the dispute went to a hearing. Lifetime Os fan in Colorado. I miss those NattyBohs.
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta
Detroit is closer to first place than bmore is Think about that 🤯
That’s insane. I hate this division
I'm so glad we don't have to play them all as much.
Useless info.. but we would have to go 68-72 rest of season to match last seasons record.
If we could go to a division that doesn’t have the rays in it that would be amazing
Wq were here first. Make THEM go to a different division.
This is the way.
Kremer settled down. The bats delivered enough. The defense came through. The bullpen closed the door. Very nice win.
#THAT IS OFFICIALLY A WINNING MONTH FOR YOUR BALTIMORE ORIOLES

We’re only 4.5 back of the Rays! Wait… Still?!? ![gif](giphy|3o7btYLAW7doynq3p6)
I don’t think I’m overstating this when I say Yennier Cano may be the best reliever of all time
We ready to give up on Dean Kremer? His off speed stuff has been incredibly flat every start.
Even better that he has options left. Send him down and let him figure out his off speed stuff.
Our pitchers seem to have one bad inning in most of their starts. Then, they settle in. He hasn't lost his spot yet in my opinion.
Kremer's starts haven't been about one bad inning. He literally only has one pitch working right now, and doesn't seem to have any movement in the offspeed or secondary stuff.
I didn't get to see this start but if that was the case again can't argue with ya.
We cross that when we get there is we are lucky enough for all 5 to be healthy and haven't forced our hand
I’m not an expert on pitchers coming back from Tommy John but I’d imagine they would put Means in the bullpen to begin with.
has Means even picked up a ball yet? no guarantee he will look anything like he did before the injury.
Yes he has started throwing. And these days having TJ hasn’t impacted players nearly as much as it used to. There have been several successful cases in the last 5 years or so.
He’s throwing, yes.
True. Can't argue with any of that.
O's win. Stanks losing 4-0. It's a good day !!!!!
The rays are absolutely unbelievable Kind of annoyed that they’re stealing our spotlight, but also very surprised that they’re looking this dominant
I'm sure they're just as annoyed with us as we are with them. "WHY DO YOU KEEP WINNING" [pointing-spiderman.jpg]
I expected them to be really good, but this is another level.
They havent lost at home yet.

Only being 4.5 back at this point in the season is totally fine. It's April. Pretty crazy to still be that close given their start, tbh.
im not really surprised. Wander Franco is for real.
I really hope Orioles dont dick around. we need to Lock up Adley like they did Franco.. And they did that with Franco after a decent rookie season. Its smart. There not going 40-6. Due to start losing some games.
One two three four five six seven
All 9 guys had a hit and no one struck out. Pretty impressive.
Team baseball at it's best.
kinda confused on how they didn’t hit well with whole lineup getting a hit
For real. Some of y’all would never make it as a Mariners fan lol to me this was an offensive powerhouse.
Situational hitting I think, a lot of double plays tonight though the Sox defense was amazing
Alternatively though 4 for 8 with risp. 13 hits. No Ks. But no hrs. Guess that's a push on the offense as whole?
They had 13 hits and zero strikeouts. I'd say they were dialed in tonight.

I really enjoyed this game - one of my favorites so far this season. Just a good game between two teams trying their best.

Cant be up there doing a balk like that
Ok stupid question but what is the NMLS? Love these posts but that always confused me.
(We should put this in the FAQ) It's a reference to a Direct Mortgage Loans commercial that runs, or at least it used to, between innings during O's games on the radio. They would always mutter "NMLS: 832799" at the end, referring to their registration number. Thanks for the explanation!
NMLS 832799!
Cano didn't allow a runner. it was inherited.
To be fair, Cano inherited the runner. But love your post game analysis! Keep 'em coming!
James “Porsche” Macan -Jim Palmer for some reason

Palmer also starting the pronunciation debate for McCann like pecan.
But is it pronounced "pecan", "pecan", or "pecan"?

I really want Cano to retire the first 27 he faces this year. Surely there is a term for a reliever retiring 27 straight.
A perfect games.
Volcano Roll
Rough start by Kremer + tons of good defense by the Red Sox today, and we still found a way to win. This team feels different.
Imagine being a redsox broadcaster
yankees are actively losing too! O’s, O’s, O’s!!!
Yeah right now our only worry is the jays and even then its clear skies ahead! We’re back!
I literally haven’t watched a game in the last 8 days because I’ve been busy. I’m hesitant to watch tomorrow…
Don’t
Bautista okay? Seems like it was just him being overworked since he warmed up yesterday?
Hyde said it was matchup I think but also ready
I assumed it was just Hyde splitting the closer duty since Cano has proven several times already he can pitch in the big spots and Felix needed a rest.
Didn't he pitch the 9th yesterday? And he's been used a lot lately, so a day off for him makes sense. Cano looked very good. Did get lucky on the one smoked to Urias, though. Hey, we'll take it. That sort of thing seems to work against us all the time.
Yes, he pitched the 9th yesterday
Maybe he makes his splitter work again with a few days off
Felix pitched yesterday, definitely just a day off, he’s pitched a lot this season already.
We've had a shot ton of close wins, he's probably been used more than is ideal this early.
Yeah not saying he shouldn’t have been pitching, that’s just how it’s gone. Hopefully Tate and Givens will give him a break when they return.
i think he needs more time off. his effectiveness wasn't great last few times out.
On our way to pass Tampas winning streak to start the season.
Orioles healing the soul of our city. ^(my soul at least)
The Braves' perfect game was broken up in the 7th on an error by the first baseman. Still a chance at a no-hitter. But that would give Severino's PB on a strikeout a run for its money as far as horrible ways to lose a PG go
So, are the early game doomers tired of embarrassing themselves yet, or?
Not even close, there's 140 games left and every single one is a must win.😲
If they've learned anything from u/RedRavens01 then no
Idk dude 16 innings in Fenway was enough for me to know this team was toast this 7 game win streak is a mirage.
I bet you're a blast at parties.
At least I’m able to read obvious sarcasm.
My bad! Been a long day.
O's currently tied for third best record in MLB
And they are 3 of the 4 lowest salaries in the league(assuming the As even count as in the big leagues)
Couldn’t watch, why were they bitching?
Seventh win in a row!
We got a hit because the 2nd base ump is dummy thicc
Oh man, I don't remember what Palmer said after that play but it was pure gold. Had me rolling.
I didn’t remember either until Jomboy posted the highlight on Instagram …. “Great throw, butt…”
This was an A+ showing from Palmer tonight.
The Sox fans tried to get their chant going and that shit got shut down quick!!!
Sweet Caroline… lamest 7th inning song ever.
Be nice to see Minn hang on tonight
Gallo hit one out too, which is nice to see. I know Yankee fans are loving it.
I can't wait to see what our record will be in the 162 games after he was called up.
The O's were 83-79 overall last year. They were 67-55 (0.549) after Adley arrived. Including their 15-7 start this season, the O's are 82-62 (0.569) in the 144 games since Adley arrived. At that winning percentage, the O's would be 92-70 after 162 games, which would require them to go 10-8 over the next 18 games.
...this is feasible
Definitely agree, Adleys* arrival brought a noticeable change in the energy both with the team and the fans. Edit: have not sufficiently trained autocorrect on Adley
# 7 in a Row!!! Orioles are *15-7* Last year, Orioles were *8-14* through the same number of games....
[Seven! Ahh hahah!](https://i.imgur.com/jIcEuc2.jpeg)
Haven’t been 8 games over .500 since Lincoln was President btw lol
Baltimore was a pretty hostile city for Bostonians then too.
I’m not surprised by that at all. Lucky for you I am a collector of history facts like that, and will gladly add it to my collection. Thank you!
FUCK THE RED SOX FUCK CHRIS "GOING-OUT-OF-BUSINESS" SALE THE ORIOLES DO IT AGAIN!
I got a penchant for smoking and winning over the red sux. Sadly for the sux. My last cigarette is out!
![gif](giphy|tBb19eUNiEjBsYeZPhu) O’s\*\*
I started a kitchen remodel today, came in at 5am (pacific time) so I could quit early and be home in time to watch. Holeee crap. One of the few good decisions I've made.
[it’s a banger](https://i.imgur.com/kQwUJN3.jpg)
If you listen closely you can still hear the Red Sox bitching way down in the basement.
Man I normally never lurk opposing team subs but Reddit suggested a meme from the red Sox sub today, all the comments were about how they were gonna sweep us and take 1st in the AL East All I can say to that is L O L
Somebody needs to update Cano’s wiki page with his Orioles record.
My Natty boh feels a little bit colder tonight! Hmm… tastes better too
The bats are hot again y’all
Every win is better than the last one, keep it rollin boys still so much higher they can go
Gotta say it's pretty cathartic to have the last out smoked straight into the glove considering how much it happened to us tonight
i think i'm obligated to get a Cano City Connect jersey when it drops that's my guy
Seven in a row, baby!
WE ARE THE SUPERIOR HARBOR TOWN!! FUCK OFF BOSTON!!! Also Yennier Cano can raise my children.
We beat Oakland too for the harbor series
My kids are all older than he is. Would that be weird?
Mine too, but that’s only because I don’t want them
That was just an awesome win.
The orioles forgot who they were supposed to be
What a game! Let's go Os!
Cano coming up nails!! And it's 21 straight batters not 20 like KB said.
So where did this gem Cano come from? Seems like he materialized from out of nowhere-ville.
Thats Elias magic
He was part of the Lopez trade last year, and figured something out this spring.
Fuck the Sux!!!! Go home!
Is this the real life?
Really can't believe we keep doing this
Kevin Brown lowkey talks a lot of shit and I love it. “And he strikes out with the best of them!” 7 straight! Who cares about the Rays and 13-0. Whether you do it games 1-13 or games 16-28 it’s still 13 in a row.
Kevin is savage sometimes and I love it. I think Jim also enjoys it cuz he loves to talk shit too
he also said the Red Sox might as well be a minor league team
#HOW BOUT DEM O’s HON?
