I think it was good seeing him get worked through it some honestly. And in the long run I think it could have affected our BP to pull him sooner. Only one day off between April 21 and may 10 so every pitch counts.
Edit: Though I don’t love the loss. You never know how much we would’ve have fought if we weren’t down by such a deficit either.

Alright I gotta ask. I feel slightly ashamed asking but I’ve been upvoting these for the last year and then some more after that, but what the hell does NMLS mean?
[copy/pasted]
It's a reference to a Direct Mortgage Loans commercial that runs, or at least it used to, between innings during O's games on the radio. They would always mutter "NMLS: 832799" at the end, referring to their registration number. It kept sticking in my head when I'd listen to O's games, and once I used it in a Lovely Totals™ post, and it stuck. Now people get mad when I *don't* reference it.
I listen a lot since I don’t have MASN and the home repair guy who says men’s bathing suits used to be cut off jeans…. Every single commercial break is wearing thin. Thinner than those cut off Jean short swim trunks.
I feel so seen! I complain about that commercial to my kids/wife all the time and they look at me funny.
The cut-off jean shorts line is the worst. Why is he waxing nostalgic for Rec league sports? They haven’t gone anywhere. Go sign up for some basketball mf’er. That will be $35 for the season and they’d like the jersey back when the season ends. They’re short on coaches so please consider coaching, experience isn’t necessary. Just email Amber if you’re interested.
Now I feel seen too!! I’m screaming in my head WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD SCRIPT FOR AN AD? How did they buy every single commercial break in every single game but not have enough money for a voice over guy and 5 minutes of script writing?
🤣🤣🤣
I mean, I guess a heavy dose of whitewashed nostalgia may be effective when selling home medical equipment.
Hilarious to think of how many ppl said “yeah, that’s great” before it hit the radio though.
I figured this out at the end of last season and then forgot it during the off season and it’s been driving me insane.
Pretty sure it’s something to do with 105.7 The Fan radio station. I think 832799 is their identification number, but I can’t find a source confirming this.
Speaking from personal experience about Japanese sports media I take it?
If it makes you feel any better, that's not much different from ESPN. They just have different favorites.
> Speaking from personal experience about Japanese sports media I take it?
Yeah, I live here, so I watch sports news every night during baseball season and it consists of "Let's see how all the Japanese players in the MLB did today." (And in 2023, that now includes Lars Nootbaar.)
With a name like Lars Nootbaar, I'd have guessed he was swedish.
And yeah, I can totally see that. Shohei at the top of the hour, Minakazuchi at :15 and maybe a brief "this day in ichiro history" segment
Kevin Brown was desperately trying to push nicknames on Cano today. He clearly doesn't hang out around here to know that Cano has already been given one.
Ramon Urias probably dealing with the weirdest circumstances for a reigning GG winner ever but just calmly going out there and hitting .292/.387
What a damn pro
And as usual folks take sides: Team Urias(win now!) or Team Gunnar(the bright future!)😀 I'm Team Gunnar, but overall whatever they're doing now seems to be working (16-8).
Well, he is 29 this year and arbitration eligible after this year, though that's still controllable the O's are cheap. 😀
Who knows what's gonna happen? We're winning, the farm system looks packed, and injuries and such have a way of making you glad you've got depth!
If Urias hits .290 the rest of the year they'll be hard pressed to convince me that we need to trade him so someone unproven can play during a playoff run
In the first 40 games of 2022, pre-Adley the O's were 16-24 (0.400)
In the last 122 games of 2022, with Adley the O's were 67-55 (0.549)
In the first 24 games of 2023, with Adley from opening day the O's are 16-8 (0.667)
Overall in the first 146 games with Adley the O's are 83-63 (0.568). Over 162 games this winning percentage would result in a record of 92-70
Also, if the O's have the same winning percentage over the last 138 games this season as they did in 2022 over the last 122 games with Adley, then they would also be projected to have a record of 92-70 in 2023
I dont think Slander is the correct word. I agree right now hes going nowhere. Ive been saying for a week or 2 now that if Gunnar has under 200 avg and is still striking out 50 percent of at bats by June they will absolutely consider their options. And they wont b callous about it or treat it as a demotion. They want this kid to succeed badly. And the second he starts stringing together solid abs he will be right back with club. BUT thats still 30-40 games out b4 thats even considered
i hope he’s sitting down with tape after every game watching his AB and all those walks he’s learning g why he took it and if it was hittable. I’m
perfectly happy with all the walks provided he’s using them as a learning experience
I think the team/local media did him a SERIOUS disservice talking him like he was a lock to be rookie of the year instead of just letting him find his feet first
True but that's what everyone remembers and not when he tailed off pretty badly at the end. I figured this year was like starting over.
Remember the "Bustman" crap last year? Hopefully this story ends the same way.
The only way he's gonna get better is by playing the position. While I dont love how he is playing rn if he is given time he is likely going to he a very good/elite player
Having attended today and last week’s second game in DC, that game was much less stressful. Not that today was bad, especially after we made it 5-2, but once it was 3-0 early in Washington it was just a question of whether the game would be over in 2:30 or not.
We were at the game today. Once we went up 4-1, I had zero worry and could just enjoy the game. Wells was on. Bullpen has found its legs and I trust them to hold the lead when we have it.
Helluva win. Our experienced guys are carrying us which is what you want.
Gunnar looks like he needs a pep talk. He's hurting in all areas and looks like he's not enjoying himself.
Adley's just in a slump, but he's connecting with the ball, retains discipline, and has an upbeat mindset. I'm confident he will bounce back soon.
Gunnar looks like he needs a buddy. I wonder if he and Adley could hang out for a bit.
Gunnars been looking like that for a bit. I was at a game a couple of weeks ago on the first base side and he looked cartoonishly dejected when he struck out. I fear his confidence has taken a big dip recently which is only hurting his performance. It’s a vicious cycle and I hope the team can give him the support he needs to pull out of it.

Rinse and repeat. Nice series W. Gotta take advantage of the upcoming series against Detroit and KC before the schedule gets hard
So far in this 22 game stretch on the weakest part of our schedule we are 15-3
That's insane
Even if we split the Tigers series, we'd have gone 17-5 for the 22 games.
That's how you play when you are a playoff team
Nobody tell me this team isn't the real deal
Yup, weak opposition or not, a win's a win.
Be nice if we could get some more reliable production out of the starting rotation but the bullpen's looking great and the offense is getting jt done.
To be clear, I don't think it's unreasonable to think we could sweep or take 3 of 4 against Detroit this weekend, but just that being on the road makes that task much harder than it would be if it were at home.
Well, I think this team sucks. We’re only second in the toughest division and fourth place in the entire league. DFA everyone and bring up all our prospects. /s
But seriously, good job Birds. Winning against teams you’re supposed to and winning series. New streak starts today!
Bautista has been a little off his game lately. Not bad. Just a little more wild than usual. Doesn't look as confident as we're used to seeing.
I think they let him close this game to get a little more confidence back in a lower leverage situation.
Feel like the guys had a little unfinished business after that near-comeback in the ninth last night.
Came out today like "lmfao ain't no fuckin way these dudes are taking two of three in our building"
At what point does Elias consider sending Gunnar down?
I wasn’t concerned the first few weeks, but his at-bats have looked worse, he’s had some defensive struggles, and he just overall looks overmatched but big league pitching right now.
Jordan Westburg is also playing out of his mind in AAA and has been a consistently quality player for the last four years through college and the minors.
I still think Gunnar has the higher ceiling between him and Westburg, but he was a high school pick who rose really quickly through the minors last year and just doesn’t seem to have it all together at the moment.
And is Westburg struggles do you just yo-yo? This is why you’re here and he’s there. You don’t send Gunnar down why do you think we sucked for so long we DESTROYED young players… this is how you do that
I mean he didnt send Adley down when he struggled. And we didnt send down Cal. Machado was under .700 OPS for his first 180 PA. Takes guys time sometimes.
Exactly, but why is everyone in a rush to bring up more prospects(not as good as Gunnar) just to see them struggle when we are trying to contend?
I don't get it.
In a hurry to see if they've "got it" or not, with visions of Houston Astros-like lineups full of farm system successes. The future is bright but some just can't wait.
Westburg has spent less time in the minors than Gunnar lol
He’s fine, rookies struggle and he’s still rocking with like a normal ish OPS+. He’ll break out of it. He isn’t overmatched or anything, if anything he needs to be more aggressive at the plate
Gunnar is never getting sent down. It’s a growing process. He’s got pretty good vision already as evidenced by 16 BB. He just needs more *big league* reps for things to click… and yeah he homered last night, on an offspeed pitch to boot.
End of May is when you starting being concerned.
Westburg isn’t on the 40 man. I know people are very excited for him and he’s hitting out of his mind in Norfolk but there’s a reason the org didn’t put him on the 40 man. I think people have to accept they’re seeing something that some fans aren’t.
The only reason Westburh didnt make the team is consistent at bats. Thats flat out it. you have Urias at 3rd, Mateo at SS, Frazier at 2nd and Gunnar finding ways to get every day at bats. They werent going to have a talent like westburg sit on bench getting vavra type at bats.
The org already viewed Westburg as an unsuitable solution for 2B to start 2023 - that’s why they signed Frazier.
If I remember correctly, Westburg is struggling against breaking balls. A player isn’t going to survive in the league let alone the AL West if they can’t hit a breaking ball.
If you truly believe they signed frazier cause westburg has issues with breaking pitches i dont kno how to respond. Which im not entirely sure is accurate. If Westburg had an issue that severe with breaking pitches that he cant survive in league. He most certainly isnt winning Minor leagye player of year award or hit the way he hit. Hed just get a steady diet of breaking pitches.
I never said they signed Frazier because Westburg has trouble with breaking balls, I said they signed Frazier because they felt Westburg (or any internal candidate) was an unsuitable solution to play 2B.
Last I saw, Westburg had a 27% strikeout rate on breaking balls. Do you know what you get when you put a player with those numbers in the major leagues? 2021/2022 Jarred Kelenic.
1. Tyler Wells is the only starting pitcher we have right now where I feel confident we’ll win the game.
2. 16-8 and about to face two much easier offenses in KC and Detroit sounds very nice.
3. Gunnar Henderson does not look like he belongs in the majors, both offensively and defensively.
The guy is 21...21!! Man, give the guy a break.
Adley had a super slow start as well. These things happen. Confidence takes time for a lot of these guys. He'll get there.
Yes, when the team played as terribly as it did.
But if we’re going to play that game, Wells has a 6 ERA against the Yankees and 5.06 ERA against the White Sox. 0 ERA against the Tigers and Rangers. By definition, he’s a pitching extreme right now.
Aren’t small sample sizes fun?
I mean he was injured last year and didn’t pitch much, ST is a crapshoot then he finds out he is being called up due to a freak injury with Bradish
He has the stuff for sure he just needs some time and development. MLB is different than AAA honestly
I just want our prospects to live in the minors a little longer and ease them in to MLB level pitchers.
But if we don't spend money for vets, then I feel like we have to get them in faster.
Troubles of a cheap owner.
I love that comment, "The Rock and the Mountain", damn, that's a tee shirt I want, Aldey and Felix together.
Even the Shorebirds beat the (Salem) Red Sox tonight
I just wish they’d pulled Braddish earlier last night… he’s been doing well I think he was having an off night and it showed early
[удалено]
I think it was good seeing him get worked through it some honestly. And in the long run I think it could have affected our BP to pull him sooner. Only one day off between April 21 and may 10 so every pitch counts. Edit: Though I don’t love the loss. You never know how much we would’ve have fought if we weren’t down by such a deficit either.
2nd best in the league feeling good
"Are we admitting that the Orioles are a good team yet? It felt gross just typing that." -- poster in the Sox sub after this game
We are the new Bengals. I take zero joy in typing that, I promise you.
the orioles-bengals arc will be complete once we lose a WS and proceed to flex that for the next 2-3 years
If history is any guide, we'll have to flex it for about a dozen years. Bungles fans flexed for about that long after their two previous SB losses.
I’d like to think we are a *bit* classier than Bengals fans, though.
The Red Sox are at best a .500 team. They can hit well but their rotation is as good/bad as ours. But, they have a crappy pen.

Another fine day of cheating, lads.
Played hooky, went to the game. I fuckin love this team!
Oooo a good game for it! I thought about it
This is the first time I've seen Cano pitch. That is one filthy sinker. No wonder he hasn't allowed a hit yet.
Fun fact, we got Cano in the Lopez trade last year.
Already worth it.
Second game of the season for us. They've won both. Was a fun game to be at.
Get this fan season tickets ASAP
Yes please! Though I live in VA, it's a trip to get there and back. Would be hard.
you can offload the ticket you can’t make it to on me 😂 my wife and I have a 92% win rate across this season and last
that will do pig.
While I appreciate you guys derailing the Sox' season, I may need you to slow down.

floor it, gotcha
I will buy a Cano jersey I’ll do it

That explains it then. Because man, first time I heard that name I thought it sounded like the most stereotype Ikea name I'd ever heard.
Loving the VolCano and Mountain combo rn
Kevin Brown was desperately trying to push nicknames on Cano today. He clearly doesn't hang out around here to know that Cano has already been given one.
Yeah the broadcast seemed to be pushing Mount Yennier
didn’t they say they talked to Cano and Bautista and Bautista had nicknamed him “the Rock”? I might have to defer to the Mountain on this one.
oh but he does
We’re officially a good team!
Shush, don't tell anyone!
Work was fucked. Glad to see we got the W. How did Wells look?
Really good!
You love to see it. Stuck it out last night but fell short. Huge bounce back win for our O’s today,
Ramon Urias probably dealing with the weirdest circumstances for a reigning GG winner ever but just calmly going out there and hitting .292/.387 What a damn pro
Casual fan asking: Are the unusual circumstances that Urias is very good but we have a log jam of other SS with Mateo and Gunnar?
he won GG at 3rd last year but has played mostly 2nd so far so that gunnar can play 3rd
He has 13 games at 3B and 7 at 2B.
i guess im the casual fan. but still it is a little unusual that your GG third baseman isnt your everyday third baseman
Because Gunnar is supposed to be the 3B of the future. Urias is (as viewed by the fanbase) basically waiting to be traded.
And as usual folks take sides: Team Urias(win now!) or Team Gunnar(the bright future!)😀 I'm Team Gunnar, but overall whatever they're doing now seems to be working (16-8).
Urias is still under team control. He's only slightly less "the future" than Gunnar.
Well, he is 29 this year and arbitration eligible after this year, though that's still controllable the O's are cheap. 😀 Who knows what's gonna happen? We're winning, the farm system looks packed, and injuries and such have a way of making you glad you've got depth!
If Urias hits .290 the rest of the year they'll be hard pressed to convince me that we need to trade him so someone unproven can play during a playoff run
Keep Urias until Gunnar gets his shit figured out. Which might take all season lol
which is normal and ok for a rookie
I’m Team Just Win Games lol
In the first 40 games of 2022, pre-Adley the O's were 16-24 (0.400) In the last 122 games of 2022, with Adley the O's were 67-55 (0.549) In the first 24 games of 2023, with Adley from opening day the O's are 16-8 (0.667) Overall in the first 146 games with Adley the O's are 83-63 (0.568). 10 singles, 1 double, 4 walks, 5 (!) sacrifices, very interesting offensive output today.
That’s small ball baby.
Small ball + Orioles Magic = Bye Bye Boston!
manufacturing runs out of the camden yards factory today
Productive outs are the best kind
I love POFOs
The Gunnar slander is insane and frankly embarrassing. He’s had like ~2 months worth of AB in the bigs.
For me it’s not the raw numbers, it’s that he’s been late on every fastball he’s seen this year.
That’s very fixable
I dont think Slander is the correct word. I agree right now hes going nowhere. Ive been saying for a week or 2 now that if Gunnar has under 200 avg and is still striking out 50 percent of at bats by June they will absolutely consider their options. i hope he’s sitting down with tape after every game watching his AB and all those walks he’s learning g why he took it and if it was hittable. I’m perfectly happy with all the walks provided he’s using them as a learning experience
I think the team/local media did him a SERIOUS disservice talking him like he was a lock to be rookie of the year instead of just letting him find his feet first
Its also just in comparison to Adley though, who is red hot
He had a red hot start last year which only fed the hype.
He did, but lots of people come out of the gate hot. He still needed to establish himself.
True but that's what everyone remembers and not when he tailed off pretty badly at the end. I figured this year was like starting over. Remember the "Bustman" crap last year? Hopefully this story ends the same way.
his defense ain't it right now. Now when u have two gold glovers in front of him. DH him.
I’m concerned about his range at position and the fact that he’s bouncing his throws to first from 3B and SS too.
The only way he's gonna get better is by playing the position. While I dont love how he is playing rn if he is given time he is likely going to he a very good/elite player
I agree with this. Urias, Mateo, and Frazier should be the IF. I’d actually prefer Gunnar at DH and Santander on the bench more often.
No they’re still looking towards the future that just derails Henderson
Santander needs to get traded ASAP. Love Tony but he doesn't really have a role on the team anymore and he's just taking ABs from guys who need them
OBP is decent too, he's drawing walks, just needs to make more solid contact. I'm not worried about him yet.
A lot of us are more worried about his defense than his bat tbf
Fair, but he’s also bouncing around all over the IF
I really want a 4 game sweep next!
A 20-win April would be insane

There’s another one. Get series wins against the tigers and royals, and you’ve got breathing room for the tougher parts of the schedule.
I think we need to at least go 5-2
4-3 wouldn’t be too bad,
Arguably the most calm game we’ve had this year? Literally zero worries throughout the game
Absolutely love the guy but Bautista sure likes to put 1 or 2 guys on in the 9th just to make me worry a little. 😅
Having attended today and last week’s second game in DC, that game was much less stressful. Not that today was bad, especially after we made it 5-2, but once it was 3-0 early in Washington it was just a question of whether the game would be over in 2:30 or not.

Gunnar can hang out with me, I know a few good spots in Fells and I make a great mushroom risotto
Didn’t think today was a day game! Nice surprise to see they won the series with a good W. Let’s go birds
This is weird. I don't have anything to complain about, which means I literally have nothing to say.
Say something nice! What did you like about our performance?
Urias.
There needs to be a pitching variation of the XBH fountain called the Save Spray

in all seriousness, his changeup drops so hard i'm worried the ground is going to get hurt
The rest of the bullpen has to be getting some, we have the 3rd best ERA in the league
You don’t hit off Cano. He hits you

Well, I think this team sucks. We’re only second in the toughest division and fourth place in the entire league. DFA everyone and bring up all our prospects. /s But seriously, good job Birds. Winning against teams you’re supposed to and winning series. New streak starts today!
> fourth place in the entire league Am I missing something? I only see the Rays better than us as of now (results may change tonight)
Braves and Pirates have a better record right? I just took a quick look at the standings. Edit: you’re right, we’re tied in second with them.
According to Sox fans we aren't a good team! Lots of projection it seems
They’d know a not very good team this season when they see it. They watch one every night.
La Piedra! Means the stone. I like it!
Hey, that’s Luis Castillo’s nickname.

Cano looked really good. Bautista scared me a little there tbh, but got the save. Good shit O's.
Bautista has been a little off his game lately. Not bad. Just a little more wild than usual. Doesn't look as confident as we're used to seeing. I think they let him close this game to get a little more confidence back in a lower leverage situation.
No save. Just closed the game out. Which is fine with me

He hit one batter with a pitch today so unfortunately the streak ended at 24. That's still pretty god damn impressive.
he beaned Turner so the on base streak is over
Nope, had a HBP earlier today.
Maybe the biggest win of the year so far imo. Love to bounce back in an afternoon game after losing the night before.
resilience - the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; see Orioles
You don’t send Gunnar down why do you think we sucked for so long we DESTROYED young players… this is how you do that
Gunnar is getting on base at a .360 clip lol, he is not being sent down imminently.
Please come sit by me because I do not get it either.
Westburg has spent less time in the minors than Gunnar lol He’s fine, rookies struggle and he’s still rocking with like a normal ish OPS+.
The risk is that it shatters his confidence. You send him down, and with all the other talent, maybe it’s tough to bring him back up.
Didn't he hit a HR last night
He’s clearly done as a prospect smh 🤦♂️ Hunting for power
/s?
Yes 😂 Gunnar’s fine people need to stop reading too much into April stats
I figured but wasn’t sure and I agree. It’s April and he is still walking a ton.
I feel like the Moneyball approach of bringing on college kids, not high school, is a better idea.
that’s basically the difference between Adley and Gunnar. I think Adley had more time to develop his self-worth and confidence through college.
Little harsh on Gunnar. His OBP is higher than Julio’s was at this time last year. He needs to play everyday to make the adjustment.
The guy is 21...21!! Man, give the guy a break. Adley had a super slow start as well. These things happen. Confidence takes time for a lot of these guys. He'll get there.
Are we for real saying Gunnar doesn’t belong in the majors lmfao? It is April and he’s just had a home stand where he’s been hitting like .300.
I dunno Gibson and Grayson (unless he absolutely implodes in the first) I have confidence in
Gibson - “am I a joke to you?”
Lol for real, poor Gibby.
Solid but not “we’re going to win this game” solid
Excluding his Boston start where the defense fucked him over, Gibson has a 2.88 ERA.
Is it fair to exclude 20% of his starts?
Yes, when the team played as terribly as it did. But if we’re going to play that game, Wells has a 6 ERA against the Yankees and 5.06 ERA against the White Sox. 0 ERA against the Tigers and Rangers. By definition, he’s a pitching extreme right now. Aren’t small sample sizes fun?
\#1 prospect is never a guarantee.
It’s been 1 month, let’s not question his prospect status just yet. lol
I mean he was injured last year and didn’t pitch much, ST is a crapshoot then he finds out he is being called up due to a freak injury with Bradish He has the stuff for sure he just needs some time and development. MLB is different than AAA honestly
Yeah and that’s why while everyone is clamoring for Jackson Holliday, I wouldn’t be opposed to moving him for an ace with years of control.
I just want our prospects to live in the minors a little longer and ease them in to MLB level pitchers. But if we don't spend money for vets, then I feel like we have to get them in faster. Troubles of a cheap owner.
That translator is feeling pretty useless right now
