I rarely do this. First time ever I think…. But Braves fan here coming to your thread. Your Reddit fanbase is awesome! So much positivity and good sportsmanship. Love to see it! Great game tonight. Happy my Braves could sneak in a win after you kicked our ass last night, but I’m really just happy to see good sportsmanship in the threads instead of vitriol. I can’t wait for Santander to get out of Atlanta and stop punishing us. That dude scary and your team is *good*!
I sincerely hope to see the O’s in the playoffs.
See y’all at 11:30AM EST to finish the series
As a life long O’s fan, it’s just fun to hate Kevin Pillar even more. Good luck after tomorrow’s game, unless we see you again in the World Series.
Edit: Also, enjoy Ben McDonald doing color commentary. He is amazing. A shame you don’t get to hear Kevin Brown.
If you gave me a time machine and told me that I could use it to go back in time and EITHER take out Hitler before he came to power, OR prevent Kevin Pillar from ever becoming a pro ball player...
Of course I'd take out Hitler.
But I'd really have to mull it over for a minute or two.
Its fully approved by local native tribes 👍🏻 and the Braves org donates plenty of money to them in return. Another white dude being upset for someone else.
Coulombe has been awesome, cano is statistically the best pitcher in baseball, and bautista the releiver of the month. That was a perfectly reasonable spot for Coulombe to be pitching, they pinch hit to negate our strategy and beat one of our better players. Great game sucks to lose, go O's
Their starting pitching is a legit concern, but that wasn’t the biggest problem today. Hyde thought he could be cute and steal one with coulombe while giving the studs a breather. But if he trusted Baker to get Murphy, why not give him a chance to get Roasario as well? Did he think the braves wouldn’t be able to counter a pitching change with a batter change? And either way, he’s saving the biggest studs for a completely unknown outcome tomorrow?
I think it was a big part of losing today that we had to ask Baker, who has pitched 17 times already, to cover more than an inning because Bradish only made it 5
A completely legitimate concern. Starting pitching has to be much better or all of this is pointless. But i still feel like Bradish did his job against a tough lineup tonight. Not spectacular, but pretty solid. He gave a solid Tillman in 14’ performance kinda night tonight. Bullpen should be able to steal that one if it weren’t for Hyde giving pillar the only matchup he is useful for.
Braddish did fine. 5 IP is fine sometimes, especially against a good team.
But we should have been able to rest up the pen last week instead they pitched their asses off and weren't rested to be at their best for tonight
And that's the genuine criticism that can be levied right now. I think Roch tweeted earlier that the O's starts have 7 quality starts in 33 games. You are setting a bullpen up to fail when they have to cover 4 innings, almost nightly. And even then, you are having to have someone like Cano sometimes cover more than one. The inability to get quality starts is what is causing the strain on the pen, making managing rest difficult, and that is going to cost you ballgames.
Everyone, including I'm sure Elias considering he did his best to get us two SP, knew the shortcomings of the rotation but ownership hamstrung 'em.
sucks.
Is John Means expected back in the majors this year? If he comes back anywhere near the top of his game, it would be a gigantic boost. But since I never hear him mentioned, I'm guessing he probably isn't going to be back soon.
1) One or two of our starting pitchers need to step up and eat some innings. It's completely unsustainable that Baker has already pitched 17 times.
If someone doesn't step up soon we need to start thinking about making an early move to trade for an arm.
2) Speaking of which. Trade Urias for pitching if this is what we're doing. This yo-yoing Urias around the infielder just so they can get Henderson ABs is getting a little ridiculous.
Henderson is only 22 -- there's nothing that say he has to play every single day or he won't develop. He's not an amazing fielder yet and the hitting is average so far. I'm sure the hitting is going to get better and he's been showing a little -- but why does he need to play every day NOW? I don't get that.
BUT. If that's how its going to be, don't make the reigning Gold Glove winner play first base.
It would also be helpful if our “big” off-season innings eater trade didn’t shit the bed and was kicked to aaa. He needs to figure his ass out to get back up here
I don’t think we have to worry yet, we’re still waiting for Tate and Givens to come back who should theoretically be able to relieve someone like Baker of a heavy load. Especially Tate
I know, I just figure Hyde’s pitching them a lot now cause he figures they’ll be rested more often later down the line when Tate and Givens come back. Quite frankly though I hate Hyde’s pitching management
I'm okay with this loss, that's 2 games in a row we've shown we're more than capable matching it with a top team. Hope we finish off the series strong tomorrow
A 5-4 loss to one of the best teams in baseball against arguably their ace is perfectly fine with me. Win or lose this series I think we’ve shown we’re able to compete with top tier talent as of now.
Hey, compared to the last couple years, to even go into a series with the braves thinking there’s a decent chance we can win it is a serious improvement. I’m really excited for the next few years.
The narrative against this team was that they only played ‘lesser competition’… if anything this series proves that the Orioles are for real this year.
Yep if we win tomorrow whatever but if we lose I’ll be pissed that this slipped away when cano and Bautista hadn’t pitched the day before but Hyde knows they may not have been available
This was a tough pill to swallow very quickly, but it was a heck of a ballgame. I'll take some blood pressure meds and be ready for tomorrow. Fox announcers can suck it. Also, holy crap Iglesias is a sniper of a closer. After that Pillar HR the game was over in like 8 mins including commercials.
This series has felt like playoff baseball and we split the series so far while away. Our starting pitching is NOT playoff caliber and yet they still battled. We should be feeling very good about this team right now, even though this loss was 100% avoidable with better managing of the bullpen.
I’m sure you guys are tired of us coming in here but I just want to say whatever happens tomorrow you guys have a damn good team with some super fun and young position players! This series has been a real treat and I hope you give the Rays a run for their money in the AL East.
Braves are my NL team, as much as I have one (got to see peak 90s braves a bunch when visiting family), so it's been really nice seeing the wholesome interactions/mutual respect on reddit and not the typical trolly banter. I can't speak for everyone but I've enjoyed the posts from y'all this series.
You know, the only fans that were actually obnoxious were AL East folks last year who were rooting for the “Bird Bros” to be a good story.
Respectfully, fuck them, we don’t want to be your cute also-ran.
Everyone else (like you here) is totally fine by me!
Please don’t misunderstand me I’m not saying he’s been bad this year, the last two times out have been shaky man I’m not good at articulating what I mean sometimes
Not really. He's a journey man who's pitched well in big spots. Something like that was bound to happen especially Cano being unavailable (who's also pitched well in a short sample size) and Givens and Tate still on the IL. Just hope Danny doesn't lay another egg in his next game.
I can't wait until Givens and Tate are back, it feels like we are missing the middle stretch guys to get us between the starter and Cano/Bautista. Getting two more high quality guys will be huge
Career 3.87 ERA. Ill take what hes given us. and tonight is not a typical spot hes going to pitch in. Hydes hands were tied with his traditional 8th inning guy unavailable. Just a great pinch hit move by ATL skipper. tough loss 4sure. but i feel confident if this was a playoff series were winning that game 9 out of 10 times.
Proud of the boys for fighting. Honestly a bit peeved at the commentary boys. Still no respect for the orioles even though it was a close game where we lead twice.
Shame to lose on an unnecessary pitch change
You’re interested enough to be commenting in a game thread in early May. Enjoy the game. Sometimes the other guy beats you. There’s no way any one of you thought Coulombe was a bad move there.
honestly I was ready to jump on Hyde. But this just feels like one of those games we win if one thing changes. Take this loss in stride and win the series tomorrow.
It’s easy to forget that this team is still performing well above expectations.
We're not sure Bautista or Cano were even available: they each threw 32 pitches Thursday.
We sure as shit have not embarrassed ourselves against a good team the past 2 nights, proud if the boys.
Tough loss. Honestly though, we hung in there. That was a super close game. Any other night it could go the other way. We’re right there with great teams. I think that says something about us. Still think we need to add to the pitching staff. But we’re going places!
If this was a playoff game definitely but it’s still only may 6th so it doesn’t come close to being worse than that and honestly it wasn’t even not putting Britton in that killed me it was putting in ubaldo
O's lose to the best team in the NL 5-4 on the road in May and you'd think our season was over. Y'all are insufferable. Great game tonight. Tomorrow's a new day.
Cano was probably unavailable tonight after throwing almost 40 pitches thursday. You leave cano in 2 innings then the trade off is today but that’s honestly a good decision by hyde because if we blew that lead the night after a shutout, we probably go into this series completely deflated.
I disagree with “using him too much.” He’s the 8th inning set up guy. That’s his job. He should crave that opportunity. He should be furious that was taken away from him and even worse that it resulted in a loss.
You can’t just pencil in a guy in to throw every eighth inning. It’s a long season and they have to manage his appearances to make sure he doesn’t overdo it.
His last three uses were the 4th, the 2nd, and the 30th; obviously Hyde knows how Cano is doing on a given day better than us but without him having pitched on consecutive days recently I'd expect him to be the best choice with Acuña Olson and Riley coming up
why does it seem like when we are down in the 9th its always bottom of the order, but when its their last chance it's the 3 hottest hitters in the league?
Tough one to lose. This Fox Booth was so dang bad. I liked seeing Santander continue to find his groove. Really good that Perez had a better inning too. Really tough L.
Back tomorrow on Peacock to win the series and continue the march to October!
It's a bummer to lose a close one, but the fact that we're playing the Braves close gives me a lot more confidence in the long-term success of this team.
Better than I expected. But what a wasted opportunity: Chases Strider early while Braddish had a solid outing. Bases loaded with Mounty against a lefty and comes up empty. This game was in the bag and of course our bullpen continues to be ass.
Pillar has always killed us and took his chance again. Why do we not have our obvious setup guy in Cano start off the 8th or even come in after a leadoff double? Dude has 0 era and did not pitch last night. Gotta respect good teams and do all you can to protect wins against them.
Ugh that’s a tough loss considering we had it and didn’t use cano or Bautista but whatever I’m sure Hyde knows if they were available or not and the games so early tomorrow I can understand but if we lose tomorrow I’ll be pissed
Tough Loss. But they happen. and they happen to evey team. It stings but chill with blaming Hyde. I hate that shit. We have one of best run differentials in 7th - 9th inning in MLB cause Hyde has made great moves this season. Allowing one single inning in a 162 game season to dictate ur feelings on Hyde is ridiculous. Hes won game with pitch hitters. Hes won games and saved arms for a grueling long season with great Pen moves. We are one of best teams in MLB currently. Booing Hyde is such a Yankees fan move. And I for one dont want Os fans acting like a yankees fan. Still can take a series win tomorrow. LFG O'S
You can question Hyde's moves tonight (they were questionable) without hating him forever. Baker shouldn't have gone back out and Cano needed to be in. He blew it. Get them tomorrow.
And tbh im not so sure they were questionable. Baker and Cullombe have been lights out... Very dominant. I dont see why they were questionable decisions. They have been getting it done. So trusting them to get it done to save 2 arms that have been pitching ALOT of innings early in season is a smart move. not like we sent in Akin
Sure question them. I did earlier. But saying i think we should have went with Cano and saying thanks hyde this loss is on you cant wait to be down by 2 runs tomorrow and not use cano and bautista. win the fuckin game in front of u." and hyde u idiot " and i dont want hyde coaching this team in playoffs" is all ridiculous.. HUGE difference
But win the game in front of you is exactly what you should always be doing. If it means you can't use either pitcher tomorrow fine, you can try to figure it out then. But not using them because you might not have them later for a situation you don't know will exist yet is not smart.
When guys are unavailable they're unavailable. When they're available they need to be used not saved for hypotheticals.
I'd prefer if you were condescending you were at least right about what you're saying. Cano was unavailable but Felix wasn't, he just didn't want to use him before the 9th. Which I actually agree with more because Felix can't reliably control his pitch count right now than for load management reasons.
The Cano thing is more just disappointing than anything. So he throws 30 pitches and we can't have a full strength bullpen for most of the next series? Don't love that at all. I also didn't love Hyde adding in his comments "we've had some other guys throwing well." Tells me they thought they'd be good to give Cano the day because they'd handle it. How we feeling about that now?
All goes back to the real problem here which is of course spend some fucking money so you have a real rotation and don't kill your bullpen.
It's not meant to be condescending. Bautista was not available for the 8th. I have even linked the tweet in this post about Bautista's availability. So, I am right in what I'm saying. But why do we not want to use Bautista before the ninth? His overuse and, honestly, shaky performance as of late (he's also experienced fatigue in the past). Someone else has to do their job.
The second part is sort of obvious. You don't like the feeling, but it's what's going to have to happen. You can not over 6 months run the same guys out there every night. If tonight were in a vacuum. Do or die. No tomorrow. You probably don't see Perez or Coulombe. We all know who our best relievers are, but sometimes someone else is going to have to get it done. Some nights, you are going to feel like shit when it doesn't work, but that's this sport.
The third part I agree with you on, so no contention between us there. Ultimately, there have been 7 quality starts out of 33 opportunities. Our starters failing to give you any depth is what is causing the issues that we are debating in the bullpen. Covering 6 outs a night or occasionally 9 is way easier than 12 on the regular.
one of them was gonna be used in the 9th if we got there and Danny has probably been the 3rd best BP pitcher all year, so it's a tough spot, but I'd rather take the series tonight with Cano/Bautista in 8/9 and maybe rest them tomorrow and risk missing the sweep rather than resting them then and not getting the sweep since it's far from guaranteed we have the lead late in the rubber match. Braves are a damn good team and could blow us out of the water in a weird start time tomorrow since they have the home field. I'd love to take an easy game 3, but I doubt it will happen
Good game, lot of fight in the boys. Just clutch hitting for the Braves. Chance to win the series tomorrow. If you told me on Thursday that we’d have a chance to win the series on Sunday after going against Fried and Strider on the road, I’d take it.
Tough loss. Gotta tip your cap sometimes to the other team. They had a pinch hit 2 run homer in the late innings to win at home. Damn.
Oh wait. I mean: this team sucks our pitching is a joke worst loss of the year how embarrassing!!!!
Right?
Cant wait to be down 5-2 tomorrow and cano or bautista never come into the game. This loss is fully on hyde. Win the fucking game in front of you. Holy shit
Its so ridiculous.. Its fairweather behavior. Being a fan is backing ur team and coach. especially when hes helped the team get off to its best start in franchise history! I loathe the this loss is on hyde BS
He's not playing for tomorrow. He's playing for more than a hundred tomorrows. You can not keep running the same three guys out there every night. We saw our bullpen gas out at the end of last season and we are on a torrid pace this season. The workload has to be spread.
We put two of our best bullpen guys in... Do you guys even pay attention? Shit happens, one of the best offenses in the league did what it does. You all have zero comprehension of what you are watching and just react.
Ouch... never go inside late in the game with the lead... Just gave a cookie to a non-power guy to blow the game... Orioles did themselves in though with terrible RISP numbers... if they would have hit like the Braves in those situations, that 2 run shot wouldn't have mattered.. let's take the series tomorrow morning guys!
A lot of positive take away from the game. Maybe the first real playoff type environment this group has played in the two seasons together. Cant complain too much. I wish we went for the win with Cano and Mountain and then punted the early game tomorrow.
Fuck that one hurts. Could have won the series and today would have just been a bonus
Not sure why they pitched to acuna with a base open. He then got the RBI single. Was also expecting to see cano in the 8th.
I'd be happy with winning tomorrow, taking the series, and taking that momentum back to the Yard with us for the BIG BOSS FIGHT.
Damn this has been a fun series but I really wanted this one.
I love this team.
I rarely do this. First time ever I think…. But Braves fan here coming to your thread. Your Reddit fanbase is awesome! So much positivity and good sportsmanship. Love to see it! Great game tonight. I checked out your thread during the game - thanks for giving Adam Frazier his rightful due as being pesky against the Braves.

“Just be perfect against a world-class baseball club. Stop acting all *human*”
The fact that Baker has pitched 17 times has nothing to do with the Braves. But I apologize if I missed what you were trying to get at
Naw that ones on me. I barely read your comment and misunderstood what you were trying to say. I’ve been traveling all day
All good man. They played the Braves good. We just need the pitching to give the bullpen some kinda break here!
ANDDD Cano wasnt available tonight.. Exactly why this ones on hyde shit frustrates me
I'm okay with this loss, that's 2 games in a row we've shown we're more than capable matching it with a top team. Hope we finish off the series strong tomorrow
A 5-4 loss to one of the best teams in baseball against arguably their ace is perfectly fine with me. Win or lose this series I think we’ve shown we’re able to compete with top tier talent as of now.
I came here to say I think all Braves fans agree that it’s awesome that you guys are good. Scary team.
Hey, compared to the last couple years, to even go into a series with the braves thinking there’s a decent chance we can win it is a serious improvement. I’m really excited for the next few years.
Surprised Kevin Fucking Pillar didn't also rob us of a HR in the top of the 9th, steal our lunch money, and beat us up in gym class.
Im sure he’s a great guy and everything but FUCK HIM INTO OBLIVION
Yessssss, let the hate flow.
FYI, Kostka just tweeted that Hyde said Cano was not available tonight. [The Tweet](https://twitter.com/afkostka/status/1655034795204722692?s=20)
The narrative against this team was that they only played ‘lesser competition’… if anything this series proves that the Orioles are for real this year.
Hyde holding on to Cano and Bautista better pay DIVIDENDS tomorrow. Elder is due for a comeuppance this year...
Yep if we win tomorrow whatever but if we lose I’ll be pissed that this slipped away when cano and Bautista hadn’t pitched the day before but Hyde knows they may not have been available

Not mad at this one but Columbe has kinda looked shaky which is mildly concerning
Lol wut? Columbe has been spectacular this year He gave up a HR
Please don’t misunderstand me I’m not saying he’s been bad this year, the last two times out have been shaky man I’m not good at articulating what I mean sometimes
Fair enough my man He can’t be perfect every time he is up on the mound but I get you
shaky? he had allowed 1 earned run in 11 innings of work coming into ronight. hes been as reliable as anyone in the pen
Last outing before this he gave up 2, then he gave up the two run bomb tonight where only one was earned
Not really. He's a journey man who's pitched well in big spots. Something like that was bound to happen especially Cano being unavailable (who's also pitched well in a short sample size) and Givens and Tate still on the IL. Just hope Danny doesn't lay another egg in his next game.

Era is getting a little inflated, but you’re right he’s been pretty good besides the last 3 appearances or so. Hopefully Cionel turned a page tonight

I agree with you but I think a lot of folks would say that one thing was putting in Cano.
A lot of folks would say that and not know anything about whether Cano was actually available tonight. He threw 32 pitches Thursday.
How about if the seed Mountcastle hit with the bases loaded hadn't been directly at the left fielder?
We're not sure Bautista or Cano were even available: they each threw 32 pitches Thursday. We sure as shit have not embarrassed ourselves against a good team the past 2 nights, proud if the boys.
\+1
A frustrating loss but Atlanta is fucking great and we had good games vs a great offense and two elite starters. Once again fuck Kevin Pillar forever.
That dude just hates Baltimore. Like we kicked his cat or something...
He knows we hate him so he just goes full dark side and let’s that fuel him
Fair enbough lol I am glad we do not have the see him again (...YET?) :D
I’d like to never see him again!
Tough loss. Honestly though, we hung in there. That was a super close game. Any other night it could go the other way. We’re right there with great teams. I think that says something about us. Still think we need to add to the pitching staff. But we’re going places!
There was that time Buck didn’t use Britton. That was worse.
If this was a playoff game definitely but it’s still only may 6th so it doesn’t come close to being worse than that and honestly it wasn’t even not putting Britton in that killed me it was putting in ubaldo

Nothing will ever top the Buck decision. Unless Hyde pulls that BS when we make the World Series someday.
Fuck Kevin Pillar
Would've loved to win this one and not stress about tomorrow, but oh well. This team loves playing with our hearts. Still a great game boys
If we had won this one, I would still stress about tomorrow. I want to win them all.
How would you rate our pitching this game out of ten?
Bradish a B, Perez an A, Coloumbe a C and Baker a C- Edit: fuck I can’t read… 6 overall tonight.
Pitching was the opposite of our usual outing.. good stuff by the starter, and then got sketchy into the bullpen. 6/10
6 or 7?
Would have loved to have this. Take the game tomorrow and all is good.
And I so want to win tomorrow, but if we don't, the season is not over as so many on here will claim.

Thats weird as shit to say

O's lose to the best team in the NL 5-4 on the road in May and you'd think our season was over. Y'all are insufferable. Great game tonight. Tomorrow's a new day.
\^ This!
Hyde blew this game. You bring in Cano in the 8th, not Coulombe.
Cano was probably unavailable tonight after throwing almost 40 pitches thursday. You leave cano in 2 innings then the trade off is today but that’s honestly a good decision by hyde because if we blew that lead the night after a shutout, we probably go into this series completely deflated.
That’s exactly what I was thinking.
Cano has been used way to much lately. Can't expect to see him anytime the team gets in a jam.
I agree 100% and I bet if you asked him, he'd want to be out there every night. It's just not the way shit works anymore.
His last three uses were the 4th, the 2nd, and the 30th; obviously Hyde knows how Cano is doing on a given day better than us but without him having pitched on consecutive days recently I'd expect him to be the best choice with Acuña Olson and Riley coming up
Yep, it's not as simple as "one day off". 32 pitches/2 innings Thursday was a shit ton for a guy who's usually a 1 inning man
Cano has almost as many innings as Felix in 2 less weeks than Felix. People acting like he hasn't had a huge work load.
Felix wasn't coming in at that point, so why? Cano is a no name who has been killing it this year. You dont over work that.
Agreed. We chose to rely on 2 guys who are having great years as well and they didn’t come through. Tough shit but it happens.
It is what it is. <3
"the bullpen is overworked" -doomers "why is Cano not in every night" -also doomers

Hyde did what 🤔
Dang
why does it seem like when we are down in the 9th its always bottom of the order, but when its their last chance it's the 3 hottest hitters in the league?
Tough one to lose. This Fox Booth was so dang bad. I liked seeing Santander continue to find his groove. Really good that Perez had a better inning too. Really tough L. Back tomorrow on Peacock to win the series and continue the march to October!
Just unbelievable that they forgot who was in LF to make the sensational catch late in the game. An awful, awful job.
¿Donde esta Cano?
☹️
It's a bummer to lose a close one, but the fact that we're playing the Braves close gives me a lot more confidence in the long-term success of this team.
Is Yennier Cano dead????
He threw 32 pitches two days ago. That’s a lot of pitches.
Seriously I had to look at the injuries to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind.
Better than I expected. But what a wasted opportunity: Chases Strider early while Braddish had a solid outing. Bases loaded with Mounty against a lefty and comes up empty. This game was in the bag and of course our bullpen continues to be ass.
Run it back tomorrow.
Pillar has always killed us and took his chance again. Why do we not have our obvious setup guy in Cano start off the 8th or even come in after a leadoff double? Dude has 0 era and did not pitch last night. Gotta respect good teams and do all you can to protect wins against them.
One good thing that happened is a hint that Perez may be finding his way back. Put a bird on them tomorrow, boys.
Can't win 'em all. Could have won this one though. Thats baseball for ya.
I wish this sub felt the same. Well said <3
Tough luck. Some hard hit balls hit right to guys and one bad pitch. Loved how the team looked tho. Very winnable game tomorrow with a rested pen.
Do you think they're as good as Cano?
Cano and Bautista were unavailable because Hyde tried to win a game in front of him.
This one stings extra hard and idk why
Take solace in the fact that we hung with a great team til the 8th and beat them the day before.
bc we had the lead in the 8th and we have one of the best BPs in the league, so they beat the best part of our game
Except our best BP pitchers didn’t pitch.
one of them was gonna be used in the 9th if we got there and Danny has probably been the 3rd best BP pitcher all year, so it's a tough spot, but I'd rather take the series tonight with Cano/Bautista in 8/9 and maybe rest them tomorrow and risk missing the sweep rather than resting them then and not getting the sweep since it's far from guaranteed we have the lead late in the rubber match.
Holy shit
Danny has been one of the best bullpen guys this season...are you not even paying attention?
Omg, shut up.
Its so ridiculous.. Its fairweather behavior. Being a fan is backing ur team and coach. especially when hes helped the team get off to its best start in franchise history! I loathe the this loss is on hyde BS
He’s right though. It’s stupid to play for tomorrow when you have a winnable game right in front of you.
![gif](giphy|hrdHADlJVuDKvyCADc|downsized) Take the series tomorrow y’all
Ouch... never go inside late in the game with the lead...
