I feel bad that we’re making Palmer watch and comment on all these meaningless games
Okay granted he gets paid and we’re not making him do it. But still.
His job is not to put a competitive product in Camden Yards. His job is to create an engine that perpetually acquires and develops so much talent below that it ultimately makes the major league roster impossible to be bad ever again
I could see him being a really good guy out of the pen for years to come.
His stuff was never to the point where he'd routinely struggle in the first few innings. It was always innings 4 and 5 that were the problem. Coming out of the pen means you get to ignore that problem.
Has the organization been trying to compete at the major league level the past few years?
If the answer is "no", how can W/L be used as a basis for personnel decisions?
What for?
Do you think Joe Torre would be able to get these guys to a winning season or something?
He's just doing the best with what the FO allows to be on the 26-man active roster. It's pretty hard to polish a turd.
Not trying to drag him but why is Austin Wynns playing major league ball? Looking at his stats and in 3 years he's played 98 games, and recorded just 7 HR, 32 R, and his career OPS is just .581, which on Bill James' scale is an F. Why is he here?
Austin is more there as a defensive catcher, which is where a lot of WAR from catchers comes from anyways.
Catchers are never that great offensively, and when they are, they typically aren't great defensively. It's kind of why Adley Rutschman's potential is pretty high. He looks to be a great offensive player, and also knows how to call a game super well, a very difficult combo to come across.
### Double
Ramon Urias doubles (9) on a ground ball to right fielder Joc Pederson. Trey Mancini scores.
Pitch from Touki Toussaint: Sinker @ 94.3 mph
Hit by Ramon Urias: Launched 109.4 mph at -10.0° for a total distance of 11.0 ft
Bottom 4 - 3-1
Braves
More sad facts.
Over the course of this 17 game losing streak, we have had 1 clean first 4 innings: 8/11 against the Tigers. They ended up scoring 3 in the 5th.
Today is not the day where we have another game where we are clean through 4.
Yeah, but Means has always been prone to giving up homers. It's his one weakness, especially in a park like OPACY.
And there's no way to know for sure, but I 100% believe Hays and McKenna both would have caught that double. In a sane world, one of them would have gotten the start today instead.
i swear the orioles are trying to kill someone behind first base. i can’t believe we haven’t seen a major injury happen in that danger zone this season
Happens a lot
It's seen as showing up the ump, and depending on the ump, some will give a close pitch to a pitcher or batter depending on who did the showing up
I haven't seen anything yet, but I'm sure it'll at least be delayed.
Looks like rain is at least expected until 2-3 pm. Depends on how quickly the front moves through
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/p9jrqq).
When the pitching works, the hitting doesn't. When the hitting works, the pitching doesn't.
But usually, neither works
Good job, Franco. My hate for you continues...
Damn
Well I’ll see you tomorrow folks
Will you though? The smart ones are grtting out of here ASAP
They can't lose tomorrow!
Franco better hope for a hanging breaking pitch because he is just not up on that fastball
Who just said the other day our games all end w/ Franco at bat and he got a hit? Redemption time for ya?
Maybe next game!
I feel bad that we’re making Palmer watch and comment on all these meaningless games Okay granted he gets paid and we’re not making him do it. But still.
Franco. Do something so i stop hating you on my team...
Not today, I guess.
Pinch hitting Franco? LOL gg
I will put my life savings and biting my shoe on Franco not getting a hit here.
The only guy we have who doesn't completely forget how to hit when a guy is on second... is the guy on second.
So true
Need to have ghost runner status so he can bat again, backyard-style
Pedro Homer time plz.
incoming Severino K pinch-hitting for Wynns
Better shot than Wynns let’s be honest here
You might have a better shot than Wynns? I agree
CLUTCH-URIAS
Just like that we got ourselves a ball game
URIAS! Don't strand him!
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Will Smith replaces Luke Jackson.
Great job, Jorge! He did his job. Let's see if the O's offense can get it done in the 9th. Come on, guys.
Fuck the number 18!!! Lets goooooo
Not used to seeing Lopez out the BP but it seems right.
Lopez out of the bullpen feels like a no-brainer.
Shocked to see it now, but I look forward to it in 2023
I look forward to it next year
It's awfully optimistic to assume we'll have enough starters next year to allow him to go to the bullpen
Then Elias failed at his job during the offseason if that ends up being the case.
His job is not to put a competitive product in Camden Yards. His job is to create an engine that perpetually acquires and develops so much talent below that it ultimately makes the major league roster impossible to be bad ever again

Are we even gonna hit 50 wins?
Most likely... no
Assuming we lose today, we have 39 more games this season and we'd need to win 12. The odds... are not in our favor.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Jorge Lopez replaces Tanner Scott.
Isn't the Milwaukee Urias brothers with our Urias?
He is, Ramon is 3 years older
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Luke Jackson replaces Tyler Matzek.
The pitching in this series looks a lot better. Now just a matter of getting the hitting to come alive...
Yeah this whole series the pitching has been pretty good but the hitting hasn't been there.
I'm dead inside.
Just once... can't we have a nice thing once? I don't even want multiple nice things. I just want one :(
Dang that was just a nasty pitch I can’t even be mad. I’m mad I guess actually just not at Mountcastle
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Tanner Scott replaces Dillon Tate.
This is it. This is Mounty's big moment Come on
Now would be a great time for Ryan Dongcastle to show up....
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Tyler Matzek replaces Chris Martin.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Chris Martin replaces A. J. Minter.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Dillon Tate replaces John Means.
DFA for DJ Stewart. Who’s with me?

Even if we lose again, it is so unbelievably refreshing to see a pitcher go through 6.
If I ever end up in an abusive relationship I’ll probably be alright because I’ve been desensitized by years of abuse from the Baltimore Orioles.
Lmao yeah, we are used to it...
Austin "Severino" Wynns
Nothing more fun to watch than pissed off John Means.
Wow, Means came back with a vengeance in the 5th O_O
Not trying to drag him but why is Austin Wynns playing major league ball? Looking at his stats and in 3 years he's played 98 games, and recorded just 7 HR, 32 R, and his career OPS is just .581, which on Bill James' scale is an F. Why is he here?

because the orioles' alternatives are catchers who can't hit *and* can't catch
Who else should be here? Adley will be up in 2022. Other minor leaguers are more of the same.
Ramon RISP Urias is back!
RISPurias? URISPas?
I love Urias
We got a hit with RISP Huzzah!
CLUTCH!!
### Double Ramon Urias doubles (9) on a ground ball to right fielder Joc Pederson. Trey Mancini scores. Pitch from Touki Toussaint: Sinker @ 94.3 mph Hit by Ramon Urias: Launched 109.4 mph at -10.0° for a total distance of 11.0 ft Bottom 4 - 3-1 Braves
Is u/romorr still watching? Has he left? Is it this bad now?
I'm here and watching. My knee is killing me right now, so not too chatty! Looks like I'm storing an orange next to my kneecap.
Hope your knee recovers from whatever it’s going through!
tbf, you have to be a masochist to watch the O's right now
I just want one run. Please. One man.
Why TF can’t Stewart watch his backswing??
Reminds me of early Manny, just on the leftside of the plate
Seriously. Every fucking time. He's gonna get a payback pitch into the ribs one of these days
And frankly, he'll kind of deserve it. He's had this problem for ages and he hasn't fixed it. He's a menace to every catcher.
Stewart you can't hit a damn thing so stop trying to big dick your backswing and injure catchers
Nice knock by Trey.
I think the funniest part about this losing streak is how my mlb.com orioles news feed is now just a minor league news feed.
Sigh... 18 is looking more and more likely...

I’m sitting more or less behind Stewart and fully believe any other OF catches that double.
Hays or mckenna in left catch both those balls. Stewart have been optioned instead
I'm sure that's almost never going to get caught, but damn Stewart makes himself look even worse than he is.
we’re getting a defensive clinic today. phew edit: forgot stewart was in left
everyone just hammering that first base side
def out but damn, way to run it out mateo
Nice Interpol - Slow Hands for the review music I see you PA guy
Nice DP.
Ryan PopCastle retires the side himself.
i swear the orioles are trying to kill someone behind first base. i can’t believe we haven’t seen a major injury happen in that danger zone this season
“Ryan I wanted to injure your lower half to even out the concussion”
Cuddle puddle.
That's how you get a knee injury
I wonder if umps ever decide to call a ball a strike *because* the batter started moving to 1B before they made the call, just out of spite?
Happens a lot It's seen as showing up the ump, and depending on the ump, some will give a close pitch to a pitcher or batter depending on who did the showing up
Pretty sure that's what happened to Mounty then lol.
95 mph fastball? Is he winding up and releasing?
Yeah, let's put Stewart in left field on a day where it's raining cats and dogs. Great idea.
Anyone hear anything about rain causing issues for the game today?
I saw some website who does all the games list BAL as a 10% chance of being an issue.
I haven't seen anything yet, but I'm sure it'll at least be delayed. Looks like rain is at least expected until 2-3 pm. Depends on how quickly the front moves through
Roch just said on twitter that the tarp is coming off and Means is heading to the bullpen to warm up, so hopefully the worst is over.
