When anyone starts something with "hot take" I prepare myself for the most lukewarm opinion

Robbie_Haruna

Redditors: "Hot take." *posts the Antarctica of takes*

Aristides123

Hot take: commas

QuesadillaSauce

Yeah r/titlegore for sure

BFDIIsGreat2

MstrRace

Yes, we are.

Aristides123

sorry if the comment came of rude but cmon man, use commas

woman_noises

Your incredibly long run-on sentence was difficult to read but I agree, paper mario 64 has a certain charm that's been lost over time.

shipshapemusic

“Woman noises”

Background-Lecture-6

To each their own Commas next time please!

yuei2

I mean that’s fair, it’s a very different style with everything a bit more exaggerated and simple. Mario I think is particularly cuter in 64’s style.

DrewV4321

Hey, I actually felt the same, I loved the PM64 art style more than the original TTYD art style, but now that TTYD remake came out, I actually love the remake's art style more than both original TTYD and PM64.

Title gore jfc

GammaEmerald

Holy fucking run-on sentence, Batman

Distraught00

I think a big difference is that all the sprites were just one piece. Now characters are multiple pieces stacked on each other (arms, legs, etc.) It's a small difference but I think it changes the feel quite a bit

GoodJoeBR2049

Don’t get me started on the water color art in PM64 😊

EcneBanjo

The best. Those backgrounds are beautiful, lush, and detailed. Especially lavalava island, flower fields, and shiver mountain. TTYD’s backgrounds are much more simple and minimalist in comparison.

undylan

I think it has to do with the settings. The environments in the first game are unmatched. LAVALAVA ISLAND?? unmatched.

Filon73

Ok but commas exist

MALLOWFAN101

sorry I was in a trance you could say while posting dis

shipshapemusic

1000%

Ishmael404

Paper Mario 64 is just best of class over all the other Paper Mario games in my experience...

blood_omen

Agreed

Mistah_K88

Legs. Paper Mario has legs.

Tanookichris

It’ll be cool if we get a remake based on this artstyle while having options of the battle gameplay between the og and ttyd.

whisp96

I see where you're coming from, I really like both of their visual styles, maybe pm64 slightly more, but it's ttyd's characters and locations that makes it the better aesthetically pleasing game to me. In ttyd it feels like you're still in the same mushroom kingdom universe, but you get to see places and characters you've never seen before. In pm64, it feels pretty standard, just more alive than a 2d mario

Physical_While_8348

honestly i have to agree

Lanky-Dependent5847

I disagree. All the characters in 64 look rough and hazy - in comparison TTYD made everything look sharp and vibrant, and I'm glad it became the series standard.

Keefyfingaz

There's something special about the n64 era

Bezbozny

It's nice to finally be able to discuss these things after like 20 years of Nintendo gaslighting us into believing no one cared about og paper mario for some reason. I'm seeing a lot of shared experiences and perspectives. "TTYD is is better, but 64 has more charm" is definitely one a lot of people share.

salmonerd202

TTYD reminds me of flash games from newgrounds.
