If you sub now you buy this month's games. Then if you remain subbed you don't immediately get charged upon next month's reveal so you have the option to to skip a month. I've been subbed since Dec 2015 and have skipped probably at least a full year of bundles since then. You don't get charged on months when you skip. Still that runs you the risk of forgetting about it and getting charged for games you don't care about so best to just cancel after getting your games unless you care about the discount perks, etc.
Plus, even with a discount from Humble Choice, the prices you'd pay on the Humble store still might not be cheaper than on other stores. I'm often subscribed to Humbly Choice, and it's not uncommon for me to check on a price tracker and see that it would be cheaper for me to buy a game on some other store.
$12 is what everyone pays, although I always skip a month even on the ones I'm interested in since they always knock like $2-4 bucks off around the middle of the month to try and get you back in so that's when I accept.
Also Figment 2, I got the first one free last year and it's a pretty fun puzzle game. Definitely interested in playing the second and that combined with what you mentioned is great

It mostly comes in for brand new games that won’t be on sale anywhere else yet. Subscribers could get 20% off the new Elden Ring DLC for example.
One of the few cases I found early adoption paid off. I'm still grandfathered in at the $12 a month

Maybe it's a region thing, but it's on the Humble Choice page, "DC UNIVERSE INFINITE 1-MONTH FREE TRIAL". It's for their comics.
It's a free month trial for DC universe online, the MMO. Edit: it is not for the MMO, but for their comic subscription. A bit better deal I think now.
