Old mate in the back bus was probably distracted. There were a few Transit guards milling around dealing with some guy vomiting on the bus I was on, and while we were waiting for the next one this happened.
THere were passengers on it at the time, some of whom stayed on for no good reason. Funniest part was watching more passengers roll up, peer at the number on the back bus and get on it.
In the early 90s I met a Transperth driver who would take a break from his shift and drop by his mates house in his bus to smash a few cones. One day he parked up in the old Wellington St bus station on the steep ramp they had there going in, forgot to apply the brakes when he jumped out, bus rolls off and smashes into the other buses behind.
Not surprised really. The quality of bus drivers has went badly down hill in the last few years. Some seem to forget they have people on board that want a smooth ride not a bunch of hard acceleration and braking. The art of driving seems to be forgotten about since the introduction of abs braking systems.
It's 99% of the time not the driver but the bus. They are old and they are not the same as a cars brakes. They use a kind of 2 stage pedal using a retarder system and air brakes. When the retarder goes out of spec the buses get defected but normally the mechanics are so busy they test them by flogging them around the block not taking into account braking smoothness for passengers and the buses end up back on the road.
Years ago, I was on a bus at Rockingham bus station. The driver got out leaving the bus running for a smoke, presumably in neutral with the parking brake on. As he stepped off, the bus started creeping forward and smashed into the bus in front.
While we're here, does anyone else get annoyed at the standard bus practice of indicating right as they are about to start moving again? Obviously on a single lane it's a non issue but more often than not we're on a busy 2 lane road and as they set off the indicate right - not to change lanes, just to let everyone know they're off moving again.
Except in two lanes it feels like unnecessary mixed messaging with room for confusion
They've got brake lights that go off as they start to move, I already have a visual indicator that they're away. But now there's a boy who cried wolf scenario with the indicator, as I've seen plenty of times where they have then gone on to actually change a lane while people's muscle memory is telling them they're just heading straight on.
Moving to the right from a stationary position is defined as a right turn in Reg 34 of the Road Traffic Code. Every vehicle is required to indicate right when moving away from the kerb.

It's seems unintuitive to me when the car is stopped on the lane itself. Cars behind will be stopped also, or slowing to avoid the inevitable rear end of course.
What I could see being gained from this in a single lane is the moment between the stop lights going off as the brake is release and a tailing driving misjudging the speed of the car in front?
But in two lanes it's mixed messaging for me I feel, and I understand that good drivers will be observant at all times and leave distance in any event of uncertainty - but we don't live in a world of patient and observant drivers unfortunately.
I only saw this because I keep seeing thst moment of confusion, a bus in a lane, commencing take off, indicating right, and then a sea of unsure people in the next lane over who either think they are about to be forced into the next lane of oncoming traffic, or jam their brakes on to drop back, or speed up unnecessarily to get in front of a bus that isn't actually coming in to their lane
The indicator lets road users in front of the bus that are looking to cross or enter the lane the bus is in know that the bus is about to start moving.
All that windscreen and still didn't see the other bus ouch 😅
I know right, that was my exact thought. How do you miss a bus!
He didn't miss it. That's the problem
Hahaha true!
Ba-dum-crash 😂
By not waving your hand apparently 🥲
You suggesting they look?
Bus. Stop!
Instructions unclear!
What are you doing step bus

That’s normal? I’d get in a bus with my number on it even if it was on fire.
I mean, you never know when the next bus is
Ex train driver trying to couple up
You can’t park there
I think he can actually.
Just waiting for a mate.
So reversed back into it or got to close either way heaps of paperwork and maybe no job tomorrow
Bus drivers are not allowed to reverse unless being directed by someone.
I also don’t think they’re allowed to crash.
Yep. People laugh at these posts, but I'm not sure if they realise that someone is losing their livelihood. I feel sad when I see stuff like this.
Drivers actually get a few lives
This explains a lot. Cats are arseholes too
Imagine the poor cunts realisation as he hits the bus in front of him, and the embarrassment if he had passengers on board

It's all bus-ted in
Wait an hour for a bus and 2 turn up together.
That'll buff right out
🤣
This will be an infinite loop argument of you didn't 'give way - bus way'.
Deffo a carton
He's just waiting for a mate
How close they get it doesn't surprise me. It was gonna happen one day. They are pretty good as sliding right past other busses though.
Oof 😄

Pretty much all of the Mercedes buses
The driver had a retarder system by the looks of it.
Oops.
So, this is what happened. I saw when they were moving the buses away clearing the path.
