Hi! I’m currently doing my thesis. In my case, kailangan ko kasi talagang puntahan yung lugar para makapagsurvey. Yung nagastos ko dito around 1,500 ata (5-page questionnaire including yung consent to participate and information page). If you are planning to do interviews, lalo sa mga experts, you should also allot a token of appreciation for them. Advice lang din na kapag kailangan mo ng data from the gov’t, wala dapat fees yun afaik. Correct me if im wrong. Yun lang at good luck!

Hi! So for the thesis costs, the transpo will truly depend on the distance between data gathering locations and the days/weeks you'll be doing data gathering. Generally, the more locations and the more days you'll spend traveling to and from said locations, the more expensive your transpo costs will be. Survey instruments, depending on length, would most likely cost you a few hundred for printing. Same for tokens, depending on the type of token you'll be giving and the number of respondents, budget at least 1-2k for tokens. If you decide to give them UP merch, expect it to be a bit pricier. For printing, if you have around 30 pages that is colored in a 100 page thesis, you'll be spending around 1.4k for printing and binding (campus dependent itong part na to tho, since I'm from UPD) and baka different ang pricing for printing and binding in other CUs. Good luck!

I did my thesis (arch student for the context) way back 2019. Spent a wholesome amount but if most generic concern I can think would revolve about tokens of appreciation (specially for interviews), consultation (statistician, english, and technical editing) printing, reprinting, and more reprinting (involves revisions and copies to be distributed to your panels and school) other consultation fees if may specialized area of concern na involved (as per sakin we went to DOST to test some materials) transportation. I say early to start for these basic fees also to pamper yourself na din pag stressed ka na sa thesis mo. Best of luckkkk

CE alumnus from UPD here. For reference, during my thesis period, I spent about 20k to 30k although most of it went to the purchase of materials and equipment for laboratory testing. The sensors that I used alone costs 500 each and they can only be used once. So I'd say 30k is a safe amount. For your research, I'd say even 20k would do, though it would depend on the type of research you are doing and the data you have to collect. Of course, if you could, you should try to get as cheap as possible while not sacrificing quality. Also, try to ask if your department has research programs that can offer funding for your research. Extra funds would definitely not hurt.

Nakapatol na ako sa iilang social sciences/humanities at this point (philo, ling, socio, anthro, history, literature, media, politics). 600php BA, 0php MA, 5 published works + several others na hindi, 0 php well into my PhD. The 600php was from printing at .5php per page + binding x 3 copies. Di ko counted dyan tuition & basic living kasi those are costs you have to pay in order to participate in this activity + life in the first place vs a cost that actually relates to realizing and finishing research work. The value does not also consider scholarship and the likes, talagang reflecting lang the amount of costing I had in order to realize the research itself from start to defense. While it's good you're preparing for a worst case and others are sharing their experiences at how costly research can be as an activity, I also just want to present my instances of how financially cheap it can be to produce research work (especially for students that can't afford to do so). Definitely kayang kaya na wala to halos walang gastos, just that most of your costs will be related to the imperceptible (time, skill & perspective development, social access, etc.) A lot of it comes down to knowing your scope and research question well. Is your question really best answered by an interview/KIIs/FGDs vs say an autoethnography, a literature review, a thematic/content analysis, archival work? If the question entails you need to know a different language/community, are you the best person to ask and pursue this research question at this point in time? Are tokens even appropriate (lalo na some respondents/communities will find it a point of offense/might hedge their responses because the experience is transactional) vs getting access through building up rapport through dialogue & volunteering? Do you really need an editor, lalo na for undergrad work, when malamang all you're having them do is style/grammar edits? Bakit di ikaw yung mag-edit? Things I'd actually count as hidden costs, na malamang mafaface ng undergrad, would be Filipino books (1-2k a pop, hirap kasi piratahin), and beer/drinks/yosi/bisyo costs for hanging out sa local watering holes to get information.
