Lostmyoldname1111

I haven’t looked lately, when I did look, like you said, it was all donuts. Thanks for the reminder!

serialdeleter

Been using it and pleased with the goodies. Got a box of different big pizza slices, and two big hauls of donuts. Great on the wallet but not the waistline

Legitimate-mostlet

Is the food expired or near expiring?

serialdeleter

The pizza slices were like the kind they keep in the glass case so they weren't piping hot fresh but weren't stale or old tasting imo. Donuts from both places tasted fresh and normal the first day I brought them home but were definitely more stale and hard the next morning

GiveMeThePoints

Which pizza places did you try?

serialdeleter

Amici Pizza in Chandler/Mesa, and the donuts were from Hurts Donuts and Sojo's Donuts

GiveMeThePoints

How were Sojo’s?

serialdeleter

it was great! got six huge donuts and a monster sized apple fritter. the blueberry lemon donut was my fave.

TSB_1

expiring no. reaching the end of their 6 hour window(most food places toss stuff after that window) yes. for example, dunkin donuts throws away ALL of their stuff at the end of the day.

AZ_moderator

If you haven't heard of the app there is a New Times article about it with more info here: https://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/restaurants/food-discount-apps-work-with-phoenix-restaurants-to-cut-waste-and-prices-18773189

Routine_Meet_5983

I have used it like 5x and haven't been disappointed yet. Couple bakeries, whole foods, Indian spot in midtown. It's been a cool way to find new spots too.

Ok_Impression_6574

I’ve had it for about 2 months. Check it kind of regularly. Only been able to use it 1 time though. Got 3 different sourdough loaves (1 regular, 1 olive, 1 jalapeno cheddar) from Proof Bread at 32nd and Shea for $5.

MainStreetRoad

$5 for all three??

Ok_Impression_6574

Yes got all 3 of those for $4.99+tax total. But they released it as like 2:30 and I had to pick it up by 3:00 before they closed. It was really good stuff, but not everyone can do that pickup on short time.

agroshallot

That’s a great deal

United-Ad7863

That's a bargain, because the loaves are pricey.........but damn good!!

ourladyofsituations

I did this, too! Love when I nab a Proof bag.

JaffeyJoe

I’ve used it once but you have to be quick! Whole Foods pops up time to time with left over hot foods I used it at Mr Moto pizza and for $6 I got 4 big slices of random pizzas…. Cheese slice, cheese and sausage, basil and cheese, and pepperoni and cheese

droplivefred

Is Mr Moto good in general? It just opened up in another city and curious if it’s worth recommending to friends in that city.

JaffeyJoe

It’s ok, it’s your typical fast casual pizza place…. But for cheap eats you can’t really complain

droplivefred

It’s definitely cheap eats. They are doing a $5 for 2 slices and a drink lunch special at the new Vegas location. Can’t complain with those prices!

droplivefred

That’s what I’m curious about. Is it Little Caesars quality or is this place decent? I eat any sort of pizza: cold, old, and anything short of mold. But I couldn’t finish my Little Caesars slices.

Tashum

Your arteries will complain hehe

JaffeyJoe

Oh don’t worry, my secondary office was my restroom for the next day

whomisu

My favorite pizza I celebrated when it came to phx! Highly recommend everything actually but the smoky greens and Rocky Mountain are tooo gooddd!!

Whole-Chemist1516

We love Mr. Moto. The pizza is excellent and the ricotta & spinach knots are damn good!

999_phx9

Mr Moto slices are bomb. The garlic knots are good too.

droplivefred

They have garlic knots with filling right? I heard that is their difference maker. It’s like 2 different fillings kinda like garlic knot hot pockets? Sounds rich and over the top. My doctor will be pissed. 😂😂😂

999_phx9

I get the one stuffed with cheese and jalapeños. They give you marinara to dip it in

Popular-Homework-471

I've never heard of this app. I'll give it a try. Thank you for the post.

Strict-Review3187

I have used it once and got a pretty decent haul from Whole Foods. Hopefully in the future there will be more options besides donuts.

Murricles92

There is a similar app called Goodie Bag

PricklyPear8

Which one do you prefer?

Murricles92

Havent used Goodie Bag, they dont have anything in my area but my friends think its pretty good.

torcherred

Great, now it will be even more competition. I haven't been able to get anything lately on there since all the new places have been added. However, if you're going to use it, r/toogoodtogo is really helpful, and they love it when you post pictures of your haul.

DJSimmy

It's great that so much food isn't going to waste! 😊

Flashy_Jello

The Whole Foods prepared bag is usually good, but the bakery has been a dud for me. Coffee bean was a bag of old scones. I hope more places start offering more options.

ItsMrQ

I've used it for Bosa. They pack that shit up. Easily would have cost like $45. You have to keep an eye on the addresses. My wife and I reserved a bag for a restaurant thinking it was the one a couple blocks from where we live and it turned out that it was miles away and we didn't make the pick up window. Overall I think it's a great service

Ambitious-Alarm8573

THANK YOU for posting this otherwise i would never know about the app

ALL_PUNS_INTENDED

That’s so cool to hear it’s growing in Phoenix! When I first downloaded the app there was nothing here yet.

cdesc

Used it a few times. California fish grill, one and done. Wasn't worth it. Hurts donuts not bad but just really smooshed into bags. Dutch donut factory was really good. 19th hole was okay donuts. Hopes frybread was really good. 2x so far. Taste 11 something was meh. It was some strange soup, moldy frosting and what looked like the shavings you get when you are leveling out a cake. Proof bread was amazing. I've continued going to the shop on main because of it.

raptorclvb

I haven’t used it in phoenix yet (since I haven’t been back) but I love using it to try new places since you get different items each time! I also heavily recommend it if y’all ever travel. But like in phoenix, there’s mostly coffee bean (I guess they’re partnered with them?) and mostly donut shops. You occasionally find an actual restaurant on there or small grocer, but I’ve been using this on and off for like 2 years in two different states. Hopefully y’all get grub options soon 👀 But is bosa or rainbow on it because 👀 driving now if so

Pharo92

Edit: I just checked, Bosa AND Rainbow are on there 🤤

parasitic-cleanse

I checked it out often, but it's just donut places selling dozens for $6.99 in my area.

Chaos92muffin

I work security over night definitely gonna give this a shot & give it to the homeless.

nevillelongbottomhi

I’ve tried, but it seems like not a lot of places participate sadly.

PricklyPear8

Been using it for several months now, purchased 14 bags overall. It's been a fun way to try new things that I maybe wouldn't have considered before (even though I'm not vegan, I'd recommend Early Bird, I've liked everything we've gotten there). We haven't had problems with anything being spoiled though on our last bag I do think we were a little under the target value. Still got far more than we paid for but not quite up to the advertised value.

Visi0nSerpent

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf gave me plain, stale rolls that I threw away. Tres Leches was good the first time, second and last time I got moldy empanadas.

TSB_1

I used it a few months ago to get donuts and bagels for my coworkers. They didnt even bother pulling the old stuff, they just gave me a bunch of new stuff. I dont think that some of the places understand QUITE what the app is trying to accomplish... California Fish Grill is an avoid at all costs. they are charging 5 dollars for rice and beans. and a tiny portion of them... The pizza places do it right. and they give GOOD stuff. but it has been sitting for a little bit.

Fast_Bit

I used it for BoSa Donuts and it was great!!!

No-Roof6373

I did and I forgot to pick up :(

Embarrassed-Sun5764

Anything that negates food waste and supports this, I’m all for it. Got me looking for the app. Thanks

ExpensiveDot1732

D'Lite has been doing a "doggie bag" for a while...it's the same concept with any leftovers from the previous day, with protein (usually chicken) & rice. The usually sell it for around $3 or so.

ItzBoshNet

There are a few companies that do this and have recently been calling our cafe for expired food/pastries. They don't really care how old it is and buy it for cents. Quite a few cold calls and some representatives have come in to tell us they'll buy our old food and then they put these boxes together.

ContributionOwn9860

Do you handle older food differently now that you know it may be going to someone still vs being thrown out? Just curious if this has changed how you handle that food.

ItzBoshNet

We don't have much waste so we don't sell our expired pastries to those services. Only a handful of pastries we would've gotten a few bucks a week from them. But they were pretty persistent about how they would come to pick up and buy any amount we were going to throw away. It was also odd that 3 different companies were reaching out within a 2 month span like some regulations were just changed to allow that business type.

ContributionOwn9860

Thanks for the info, interesting to know they all started around the same time. Definitely wonder about food safety for this stuff. Gotta be impossible to verify.

stringsubjects

When I worked for a coffee giant we tried to do food “donations” a few times - they would bring us bins (giant green plastic tubs) and encourage us to throw everything we would normally throw out into it. They instructed us to pack them full, as in smash things into other things in order to fit them all. Prepackaged food I wouldn’t have an issue receiving kind of smashed, but they’d be talking about pastries too. Then they would only come by twice a week, MAYBE - who knows where and when that food got “disbursed” or eaten or thrown away… granted this was between 07-13, but I can’t imagine the landscape has improved in the last 10 years, and buy low sell high is still very profitable. I wonder if they were suppliers for this type of setup.

JaffeyJoe

I know there’s always gluten free baked goods always available for those with intolerances

Stab_City

I used this app for Lucky’s donuts off of thunderbird / I-17 freeway. It was a great deal. I arrived at the time specified and the guy who helped us picked various donuts from the display, so I knew the quality of what I was getting. Would definitely do it again!

zebzebzebby

I’ve gotten some great croissants and pretty fresh stuff! Sucks that other people have gotten shitty stuff

BattleSpecial242

I’ve used it for BEG in Scottsdale. Wasn’t bad.

pinaypie

I used this a few times whenever I’m staying at my apartment in Bay Area. Good deals for less $$.

jwrig

I've used it a few times for bread and it's been ok.

Chronically_annoyed

I wish there were more near Peoria! I love too good to go!

Mobile_Music_3581

Whole Foods has been great so far with both Meals and bakery deals.

BuleshirtInBulebox

Thank you OP for the post!

kyrosnick

Every time I check it is nothing but donuts.

DJSimmy

Thank you for this!

Djmesh

In the east valley it us3d to be nothing but overpriced sides, but I haven't checked it in a while.

Houseplatho

Ohhh I’ve been wanting one try this but didn’t think it was available in AZ yet!

linksys-estrella

We use it often. The amount of places has multiplied lately, as you stated. Never really been disappointed, especially for the price. I just wish there were more options centrally.

throppledream

They updated it a few months ago, I’ve used it five times across a meal prep establishment, a donut shop, and an Indian food buffet and have had great experiences every time overall. There was one time I bought two meals and only received one meal and the restaurant was a little far so I just emailed pictures to customer service and just asked for a refund on the singular meal and got a confirmation email within 24 hours for the refund no hassle

SumBagelStuff

Late to the party on the reply but I’ve used TGTG twice in the last two days, at Hope’s Frybread and Proof in Mesa. VERY good results. Got some meat, beans and cheese from the former and 3 big ol loaves of bread from the latter. Mostly donut places in my area but I’ll be keeping an eye on it for sure

thedevilslake

Will check it out

SaguaroBro14W

I didn’t know this existed, but now I do! Thank you for posting, OP.

runner3081

Tried it, mostly unhealthy junk food.

DigitalGurl

Yes - I’ve tried many times. Too often food is stale, gone off, and well past its expiration date. Any tools for refunds for bad food is through the app and they don’t respond most of the time. When it works the food can be good but IMHO it’s hit or miss.

Hydralisk18

I've been concerned with food borne illnesses with stuff like this, food being left out to long, especially with hot stuff, has that happened to anyone?

ContributionOwn9860

There’s some weird shill-like behavior going on for this app in this discussion… feels like brigading

ContributionOwn9860

Late stage capitalism hellscape app - everything’s so fucking expensive we now have to resort to multiple day old food, the leftovers of the rich. Awesome time to be alive.

a-pences

American declinism ....competing on an app for leftovers, driving to, paying for and eating what was headed to the dumpster.

No-Tie-1481

has anyone gotten one from whole foods? i’ve been wondering what the food items are like in those bags

Mobile_Music_3581

Yes. It was good quality/value

No-Tie-1481

what did you get in it?

hscnmm

Mashed potatoes with beef, rice with beefs, spaghetti
