The was the first thing for me too. Then the tower next to the wheel and finally along the pier to the foreground. I didn’t even notice the people on the beach.
Exactly what happened with me. Gave it a quick look and didn't notice the people until I scrolled to the comments. Maybe a better look and I might have seen the people
Interesting. In my mind when thinking of framing the photo I was thinking it could be something like foreground along pier > people on beach > back to pier > tower > Ferris wheel. But it ended up being more similar to your pattern when looking at the photo afterwards.
The wheel, the beach, the tower and then trying to figure out what’s that long thing on the left.
Since it’s vertical to the side it’s not lending itself as a leading line to the main subject which I assume is the ferries wheel
Yes, it’s a failed leading line. You can see there is a bend on the pier and, from a distance, it seemed like it might be enough to point toward the tower and Ferris wheel but I didn’t manage to get a good angle.
The bright spot being on the left side of the railing or the right?
I understand what you mean, my second variant was to crop all of that out, but decided that I prefer having a bit of foreground even though it did not end up being a good guiding line.
My eyes naturally goes to the wheel. I think it pops nicely into this composition but at the same time it doesn't overdo it. I think you did a really nice job here when it comes to balancing this shot. Great job 👍
Thank you! I think having dark elements against a grey sky on the left side naturally pulls towards the white elements against the grey sky on the right side.
I mean no offence really haha, It's actually kinda comforting, my eyes just sit there and rest. I'm new to this subreddit, I'm experiencing totally new things through these photographs. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
Left side tower, left side down and up, then wheel, then beach. Uncomfortable for me to watch. The leading line is a good idea but it doesn't help at all. Also the metal structure contrasts more with the background than your main subjects. I'd crop in and cut the bridge...
I see what you mean. To me, it feels natural to move unobstructed from the darker left area to the lighter area on the right towards the Ferris wheel even though left has more contrast with the background. Thanks for the perspective!
Ferris wheel - line of the pier from front to the end - the end of the line - the tower - waves - people on the beach
Nice shot indeed. Congratulations.
The way you get your information from b/w is amazing. This is a great example of that. Here’s what I did: Ferris wheel; tower stairs; pier; beach; girl facing water on the beach. Great journey
To the Ferris wheel but it's not where the eye goes. It's too muddy, looks like its at least a stop underexposed. Just needs to be brightened but the subject is really cool.
My eye is confused as to whether it should focus on the pier's side or the ferris wheel.
The left side is distracting from what's beautiful in the picture: the beach and the ferris wheel.
immediately to the ferris wheel, then the pier railing whatever it is in the fore and background, then the "tower" ride , pier ,then the beach with people. Thats the order i saw it in, looking very fast and just thinking of what i saw first in a way.
Mostly the wheel but the fence/roof section is a massive leading line that directs my eyes straight out of the frame. I think I'd prefer a slightly tighter crop or some editing to take down the highlights on the roof.
The beach funnily enough, the shadows then light coloured sand….. that not one bloody kid is digging a hole in!
For me it was like the metal stand/bridge you’re next to and the cable and bridge that took me to the tower. Bit of a journey but I needed the run!
Everywhere. Except bottom right. That area Feels a bit empty, but, I tried cropping it, and I think it feels more balanced. What do you think?

Firstly to the right up and then down, and finally to the left part.
That’s in the Netherlands! I’ve been there, nice pleace to visit. The wheel was amazing.

You didn’t ask for suggestions or critique so I’m going outside the bounds- so apologies. My assumption is that the Ferris wheel is your objective. The goal is to minimize elements that aren’t central to your story.
Hey, no worries. Feel free to suggest or critique anything. Yes, that’s a good way to go about it. I would crop on the left just a bit more so the edge doesn’t stick out barely like that.
Ferris wheel, then tower, then weird objects on the left. I spent most of the time trying to figure out what the tangle of stuff on the left was that I didn’t notice there was a beach and people on it until after reading some of the comments.

The wheel
The was the first thing for me too. Then the tower next to the wheel and finally along the pier to the foreground. I didn’t even notice the people on the beach.
Exactly the same for me
Yup. Same
Me too
Me three
Me four.
Yes, the wheel, definetely
Yes, same
Exactly the same for me 😀😀
Same
Same
The answer of a true legend
Exactly what happened with me. Gave it a quick look and didn't notice the people until I scrolled to the comments. Maybe a better look and I might have seen the people
Same
The wheel and then the crane that’s unfortunately merging with it.
I second this
People on beach > tower > Ferris wheel > foreground along pier
Interesting. In my mind when thinking of framing the photo I was thinking it could be something like foreground along pier > people on beach > back to pier > tower > Ferris wheel. But it ended up being more similar to your pattern when looking at the photo afterwards.
The eyes are usually drawn to the brightest part of an image and then work towards the darkest
I agree. Although, once I get to the darks it tends to push me back towards the brights.
Top left. Bottom left. Top right. Bottom right.
I like that path, close to what my goal was!
It was the exact same for me too.
I still think it adds decent depth to the photo
I try to see other stuff but all I see is the bright spot in the foreground. I prefer the pic with all the stuff on the left cropped out
The bright spot being on the left side of the railing or the right? I understand what you mean, my second variant was to crop all of that out, but decided that I prefer having a bit of foreground even though it did not end up being a good guiding line.

Same for me. IMO the Ferris wheel is the subject. Lovely photo OP!
I agree, the Ferris wheel works best. Thank you!
Cool, it seems to work inverted too!
Dark tower in the center to the left of the wheel.
I see the whole picture and think... hey that's Scheveningen. Nice photo
Thanks! I didn’t do too much research prior to visiting, was pleasantly surprised with the place.
Bottom left, it's crazy! Attracts my eyes like magnets, I look away but come back to it uncontrollably.
Hey, don’t let it distract you too much from the rest of the photo! Haha
I mean no offence really haha, It's actually kinda comforting, my eyes just sit there and rest. I'm new to this subreddit, I'm experiencing totally new things through these photographs. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Gesundheit
Yes!
Wheel, spiral
Railing
I don't know
Fair enough. Would maybe prefer a tighter crop to isolate the subject more?
I wouldn't say that, I just happened to look at many places on first glance
Its a good photo but maybe too much going on in one photo for the viewer?
I can agree with that. Some might prefer a more isolated subject to not wander too much. Exactly why I put that question in the title.
https://i.imgur.com/BjXS9uE.png
Hey, good idea to just visualize it like that, nice!
on the left. great pic btw
It is a bit geometric with the straight lines on the left, I like that. Thanks!
Left side tower, left side down and up, then wheel, then beach. Uncomfortable for me to watch. The leading line is a good idea but it doesn't help at all. Also the metal structure contrasts more with the background than your main subjects. I'd crop in and cut the bridge...

The wheel. That's Scheveningen!
Ferris wheel then the people at the bottom
I just noticed the zip line shadows dropped on the beach that lead straight to the wheel. Could try to accentuate them to add leading lines.
Wheel, tower, foreground, beach. The Ferris wheel is the contrast spot-lighter and at a 1/3 point.
Could you define the term “contrast spot-lighter”? I haven’t heard it before.
Yeah, I knew it didn’t seem right when I typed it. That’s where I see the contrast that attracts my eyes. It’s lighter than the darker surroundings.
Ah, I understand now. Thank you for the clarification.
My eyes ping between the wheel and the net thing on the left
Almost like you’re riding the zip line. Hope it’s fun!
The wheel, then the gap in front of the railing in the foreground.
Ferris wheel - line of the pier from front to the end - the end of the line - the tower - waves - people on the beach Nice shot indeed. Congratulations.
The waves! Wasn’t even looking there much until now. Thank you!
the wheel
The Ferris wheel
To the water because I’m looking fir shark fins.
Tower, wheel, path, beach.
To the Ferris wheel
It’s the Ferris wheel for me, by a long shot. Then the beach front
the wheel first and then to the railing
i am blind
:(
Stuck at the tower
It’s a cool tower. A little unlucky for it to be next to the Ferris wheel that that’s stealing some attention.
Ferris wheel, closest railing, stuff next to Ferris wheel, weird cage thing, Beach
The helter skelter. ETA Just zoomed in. The staircase!
Ferris wheel > tower > Ferris wheel > tower >Ferris wheel > tower (continue at exponentially increasing speed) > rail in foreground > Ferris wheel > tower > Ferris wheel > tower >Ferris wheel > tower > beach
That’s very detailed haha. Thank you for sharing.
The ferris wheel pops out immediately.
Ferris wheel.
Wheel Tower Post title.
To that woman with her boobs out
Wheel, tower, people on beach
All over it. Very unique angle.
Glad to hear it’s unique!
The way you get your information from b/w is amazing. This is a great example of that. Here’s what I did: Ferris wheel; tower stairs; pier; beach; girl facing water on the beach. Great journey
Thank you! That means a lot to me since I think that is the major goal with b/w for me.
Certainly the Ferris wheel
The shadows to the left, then the tower beside the Ferris wheel, back to the shadows, to the beach and people
My eyes went to the ferris wheel instantly
My eyes go bottom left, follow the rail, and everything else is an afterthought.
The wheel
Bottom of the wheel
Ferris wheel, left, beach. (I was scrolling down on my phone)
Left, tower, ferris wheel, beach.
It's just darkness (blind btw)
The Hague
The Riesenrad and then the tower.
Ferris wheel, the structure on the left, then it finally rests on the tower in the back.
All over
Galveston lol
To the Ferris wheel but it's not where the eye goes. It's too muddy, looks like its at least a stop underexposed. Just needs to be brightened but the subject is really cool.
Do you think the entire image needs to be brightened or just the Ferris wheel?
The Ferris wheel for me
Giant wheel
Mine went to the wheel then to the tower to the left. The composition is really and has a lot going on without being overwhelming. Nice shot!
My eye is confused as to whether it should focus on the pier's side or the ferris wheel. The left side is distracting from what's beautiful in the picture: the beach and the ferris wheel.
I have seen a couple of suggestions like this. I understand what you mean.
immediately to the ferris wheel, then the pier railing whatever it is in the fore and background, then the "tower" ride , pier ,then the beach with people. Thats the order i saw it in, looking very fast and just thinking of what i saw first in a way.
the wheel and tower
Straight to Ferris reel!
I like it very much the first thing I noticed was the center tower then the spinning wheel for last the bridge. I enjoy the balance and depth to it
I agree, I like the balance and the depth in it too.
Straight to ungy bungy tower
This is stunning
I'm a bit stuck on that out of focus foreground. Thanks for posting such an interesting photo to discuss
You’re welcome! I think it’s a good question for a discussion, all kinds of different opinions come up.
Ferris wheel, bottom left, tower, people on the beach
ferris wheel
Mostly the wheel but the fence/roof section is a massive leading line that directs my eyes straight out of the frame. I think I'd prefer a slightly tighter crop or some editing to take down the highlights on the roof.
That is unfortunate, yeah. I could try and alleviate the issues with that.
Exact middle. Tower. Then Ferris wheel.
Nice fishers
🎡
Mine go left for some reason and all I see is the guard rail.
Ferris wheel, then the tower next to it because I though it was a battleship at first. Then to the fire ground. It’s an interesting shot.
Ferris wheel
I went from Ferris wheel to roof to people and totally missed the tower
Is this Atlantic City?
No, this is The Hague.
I was drawn to the bungy building (in the center)…it’s unique. Wasn’t expecting it.
I start with the Ferris wheel, then my eye follows the pier roof all the way out and then locks onto the spiral tower!
To the brightness at the bottom
The ferris wheel is the first thing to catch my eye.
Round and round! It’s a great photo!
My eyes go first to the wheel, then the other things.
Tower, wheel, beach, then left bottom to left top.
The whole left side to figure out what I'm looking at and then the ferris wheel.
I think you are trying to explain the rule if squares. Top Right intersection then top left then bottom right then bottom left.
I supposed you meant rule of thirds and referencing the central square? If so, yes, it plays its part.
The giant distraction on the left.
Whatever that is in the upper left of the image, ferris wheel, tower, beach - in that order.
It’s a platform for the end of the zip line going from the tower.
Wheel > Tower > Top Left Fencing > Beach
Bottom left, then beach, then a general view
When, stackedstaircase building, net, railing towards foreground, beach
100% mom taking photo on the beach of you!
Hope she got a good photo!
ferris wheel - tower - railing - beach everything circles around its a really good photo
Yes, I circle around like that too. Thanks!
Scheveningen! I did that bungee jump
If it was in June, I may have caught your jump! A guy jumped while we were there so I tried shooting it at max fps haha
Boobies!
The Ferris wheel, and then move left and follow that rail line to the upper left / middle of the photograph.
Well, first, they went to the Ferris wheel, immediately following that, they then wandered over to the thing above the dock/bridge.
Ferris wheel > tower > foreground > beach
The beach funnily enough, the shadows then light coloured sand….. that not one bloody kid is digging a hole in! For me it was like the metal stand/bridge you’re next to and the cable and bridge that took me to the tower. Bit of a journey but I needed the run!
Glad you took the journey!
Ferris wheel, then the edge side, then the people
All along the pier. It’s heavier visually.
Everywhere. Except bottom right. That area Feels a bit empty, but, I tried cropping it, and I think it feels more balanced. What do you think? https://preview.redd.it/7s1x1g7x45ob1.jpeg?width=3729&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5be5b11941ab92faee19d88d17db84aa381eb0a2
It works! Although it is a bit empty, I prefer it at a more comfortable 1/3 of height and then the sea at 1/2 of height.
Ferris Wheel 1st
Firstly to the right up and then down, and finally to the left part. That’s in the Netherlands! I’ve been there, nice pleace to visit. The wheel was amazing.
Ferris wheel, observation tower, bridge, then beach
giant wheel
https://preview.redd.it/iq5g7wbv95ob1.jpeg?width=859&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=120cdfc208fa872dade5c710af15d8323ac4a482 You didn’t ask for suggestions or critique so I’m going outside the bounds- so apologies. Hey, no worries. Feel free to suggest or critique anything. Yes, that’s a good way to go about it. I would crop on the left just a bit more so the edge doesn’t stick out barely like that.
I looked at the wheel then the bright spot on the bottom left caught me for good
Great shot
The tower next to the wheel.
Ferris wheel
Ferris wheel, then tower, then weird objects on the left. I spent most of the time trying to figure out what the tangle of stuff on the left was that I didn’t notice there was a beach and people on it until after reading some of the comments.
It’s the end of zip line platform. I didn’t even understand what it was when I was there until I saw people zip lining. Haha
The tower. The railing leads my eyes back and the ferris wheel traps them there.
ferris wheel
The wheel. It’s just ‘there’
9 o’clock on the Ferris wheel, the long path on the bottom left, trace it up to the horizon. Back to the Ferris wheel
First the rides on the dock, then the railing and fence, and then the beach
the tower -> is that a battleship tower? -> why is a battleship hiding behind a ferris wheel??
My eyes went to the ferris wheel, only because my wife and I took our engagement photos in front of a ferries wheel.
A fine association :)
Ferris wheel, guideline, sand and people
The first thing I probably noticed was the Ferris wheel that takes up a lot of the picture.
First to the Ferris wheel then immediately to the tower.
Ferris wheel first.
Tower, thing on the left, the wheel, the beach
Wheel, tower, foreground, people, beach
