I used to dislike it but it's grown on me over the years.
I don't listen to it all that much but I as I've gotten older I can relate to it more then when it first came out.
It’s definetly grown on me too. I don’t care much for the topical lyrics or the politics of it all, and in places it feels like the guy is just incessantly whining. But I find myself thinking about certain songs from time to time and there’s a “feel” to the album that’s hooked me. “The Gunner’s Dream” is a great song and “Two Suns in the Sunset” is a fantastic closer, the rest feels like filler but not in a bad way - it all flows together well.
Yeah, it hooks but differently than PF other albums. In some ways, I don’t mentally feel like it’s truly Floyd. But on its own, it has its place. Some say it has some of Gilmour best guitar work and Rogers best lyrics. I don’t agree with that, but it’s enjoyable to feel the mood of it from time to time. Plus the sound effects when you listen with headphones are fucking killer.
Maybe it will, maybe it won't. If it's not an album for you there's still plenty of others by the band I'm sure you can't get enough of.
For me I loved Momentary Lapse when it came out and it was one of my most listened to albums for that year. It hasn't aged well and now I listen to it as much as Final Cut.
I remember buying the final cut on cd in the early 90s at a kmart. I played the fuck out of that thing and jammed out in my room with my blacklight on. I really liked it then and it's still one of my favorites today.
Final Cut is the 2nd worst PF album (after Ummagumma). Just Roger whining for 45 minutes. Horrible. Gilmour tries to save it with his solos, but that's not enough.
Perversely I like The Final Cut. Maybe if only for the line “if it wasn’t for the Nips, being so good at building ships, the yards would all be working on The Clyde” (which may not be an exact quote).
It’s a few lines from The Post War Dream.
If it wasn’t for the nips
Being so good at building ships
The yards would all be open on the Clyde.
I grew up on Clydeside but after the days of shipbuilding had largely gone.
Thought I oughta bear my naked feelings
Thought I oughta tear the curtains down
I held the blade, in trembling hands,
Prepared to make it but-
Just the the phone rang
I didn't have the nerve to make the last cut
Did you mean “The Final Cut”?
Yes
Did you mean “the first cut is the deepest”?
It’s one of the worst albums I’ve ever heard Roger wanted to sing just like David, but it just didn’t work out
i don't like Roger, but his singing is not bad. It was a very good contrast for David's voice.
I’ve heard people refer to it as Rogers first album. What a beautiful album. I couldn’t disagree with you more.
Thx
Yeah "The last Cut" was very unpopular. As a matter of fact, I have never heard of it.
I could kiss you right now, that make me laugh so hard
Not my favorite album overall, but I really, really like the title track and "The Gunner's Dream"
My favorite album tbh it’s very underrated tbh

You are right it’s all about the hook that’s why Pink Floyd is my favorite band. They hook me.

Hopefully it will grow on me

I’ll get into it
You should fight the guy who says “Gunner’s Dream” is the best song he’s ever heard
I like Previous Cut better.

Still be open on the Clyde
I knew it was something like that.
I can’t tell if this a PFCJ post or not hahaha
It kind of is, but my honest opinion is I don’t like the Final Cut
What’s your opinion on the gunners dream?
That’s the only song I like off of the album ha ha
The rest will grow on you the more you revisit, be careful! Haha
Thought I oughta bear my naked feelings Thought I oughta tear the curtains down I held the blade, in trembling hands, Prepared to make it but- Just the the phone rang I didn't have the nerve to make the last cut
But the First Cut is the Deepest.
