I have been seeing husky on the lists a lot more lately. My little brother has a swiss shepherd/husky and he was denied several apartments because she is both breeds. A lot of places basically just ban all big dogs, which sucks.
We almost didn’t get a house (to rent) recently because they didn’t want a larger dog. Small dogs only.
I brought my lab with us and left him in the car while we met the owners and checked the vibe out. At the end of the showing, I said we have a “small labrador” and they were like, “yeah, no, we don’t want big dogs.” I said, “would you like to meet him, we have him in the car…”
They reluctantly obliged, but then acquiesced once they saw how good of a boy he was.
All that to say, I’m in agreement with you. I’m so confused when rentals say “small dogs only” as if a small dog might do less damage than a large dog. Or that small dogs might not shit and piss all over. Anything they nay worry that a large dog may do, a small dog can do just as much damage.
As if most people don’t train their small dogs and let them piss and shit all over the damn house. I’d rather take 3 Great Danes in a studio apartment than 1 small dog lol. I love dogs of all size but people stereotype dogs in the wrong direction

Banned breed lists are so bizarre. I’ve known WAY more temperamental smaller breeds than I have “banned” breeds.

I think ( just a theory) that small dogs overall get less training than large dogs, someone's absolutely untrained 75+ lb dog is a PROBLEM, someone's 15lb or less untrained dog is annoying but overall nothing but a nuisance
Yeah that sucks. There are some pretty chill large breeds out there. But I can also understand breed restrictions like that in an apartment setting. Some types of dogs just aren't fit for apartments. The landlords at most of these places just need to do more research.
I'm in real estate and I've never seen a Husky on any banned breed list. They do not have a history of attacks or injuries like Shepherds do – probably because of quantity. There are soooooo many shepherds and shepherd-looking dogs around.
Oh trust me huskies are on many banned lists. My last baby was a husky/lab. Huskies can be aggressive. They are also pretty destructive, loud, leave their husky dust(hair) everywhere and love to talk back!

I just dont trust shepard dogs. In germany they are one of the more dangerous breeds with the most bite attacks (but!! These dogs often guard farms or livestock so its their job to bit some people. I still dont trust these breeds)
there's some research that says generally dogs with powerful bites and square jaws (such as Pitbull Terriers or Rottweilers) get a bad reputation because that jaw shape tends to be more dangerous when biting because it tears flesh and causes worse injuries despite the dogs having about the same rate of biting people as any other breed.
The dogs that are actually most aggressive are dogs with short legs to their body size comparatively because the legs genes have some correlation with the aggression genes or something like that? Dogs like Chihuahuas or Dachshunds are supposedly more aggressive in general.
Anecdotally, Golden Retrievers, Rottweilers, and Australian Shepard's are amazing dogs. Chihuahuas are a pain in the ass and have issues. Labradors are fun, but the biggest mess in the world. And actually I had a friend with an amazing Dachshund. Overall I would say the owner putting time and effort into their dog makes a bigger difference than anything else.
I love this! The leg-length-to-bite ratio is hilarious because I have a greyhound pitbull cross (aka lurcher) and he looks TERRIFYING. I mean he really looks ferocious. He has all the size and chonk of a pitbull, a super scary looking face, and then these giraffe greyhound legs lmao. People look so wary of him out in public.
Little do they know he’s the most gentle, timid dog I’ve ever met! The only time he’s ever bitten anyone is when he rolled backwards off the sofa and in an attempt to save himself, sunk his teeth into my hand (fortunately it didn’t hurt haha). He then looked terrified and attempted to redeem himself by sitting his entire gorilla body in my lap and cuddling me with his paws. Of course I let him. This is a gentle giant who gives full body hugs. 😂
A lot of apartments (for good reason) have bans on huskies. They're loud, very vocal, and shed like crazy, they're also large and energetic. They're beautiful dogs, and I LOVE them, but they're NOT fit for apartments.
My building banned pits but mine is a "service dog" they can't do shit. Loop holes only reason I found this out was the super told me when I first looked at the building. Just need proper paperwork.

I thought the exact same thing! I don't see a lot of pit in him, to be honest. That's not to try to be gatekeeping or anything, because I'm certain he's 100% good boy, regardless of his DNA. He's just going to be easier to pass off than some of the others I've seen.
“Medium Mix” is what’s on the paperwork for ours! I did the dna test but out mutts are a bit too complex for anything to be prominent. I have only had one daycare ask for something more specific and I said the dna test came back with 18 breeds, do you really want me to pick one? Or is mixed breed acceptable? 😂
Oh wow! At least you got the money back! 😂 The DNA test I got listed all the breeds and although pit and chow were the first two (28 total%), he barely looked like either. Pit ears and smile and chow chow black tongue and curly tail.
My current two had much better results. Not sure if the previous testing was not as good as the foster puppy was done around 2018. Tri-color on the right is 29% pitty and 18% chihuahua as her first two (what a combo) 😂 The brindle and white on the left is 23% pit and 17% lab. I think the dna tests are so cool and I love learning about my little street mongrels history.

I worked in a kennel and listed almost every dog as “lab-mix,” or “hound-mix.” When describing dogs, in a report, we were taught to mention coat color, stature, approximate weight, and any other characteristic that helps identify—such as “pointed ears” or “long tail.” Without papers from a breeder, we could never be 109% sure so….
if they are asking for papers for your dogs you can edit pdf to change breed. if they ask for a pic send a pic of another dog. As long as your dog isn't an asshole I haven't had any issues with neighbors.

Careful, some places will fine and/or evict you for housing a dog you haven't reported to apartment management. This includes if they enter your apartment for repairs or in an emergency and discover a dog that doesn't fit the description or picture you provide.
I had to bring my dog into the apartment office so they could verify he fit the description when I moved in to my last place. They also entered my apartment three times a year to replace the A/C filter. At one point, pipes burst in the apartment above mine, and they had to enter my apartment suddenly too. Plus they entered to replace light bulbs, fix a closet door, repair a kitchen drawer that wouldn't close, etc. It's best not to lie on your lease agreement, especially if you plan on staying somewhere for long.
This is definitely Doofus, part of the security breed from Lichtenstein. They’re known for splaying ears like a hat, heterochromia, and ambidextrous ear flagging. All breeds are ok as an emotional support animal, but the Lichtensteinian Doofus is not one of them.
But in all seriousness, have you thought about just getting a ESA letter? My apartment lists Pitties and Staffies as ban but my Staffie is chilling here cause of the letter & her bestie is a Pittie also under a letter.
Lab x Malinois? Tbh (I'm a lab person) I assumed lab cross and was wondering 'what with?' with kelpie or malinois as my top options - he's gorgeous!

Go with medium mutt because I'm seeing a lot of different breeds. When they ask you to be more specific, say he's a rescue not purchased from a breeder so 🤷🏼♀️. Offer to get a temperament assessment from a vet.
Personally I would get creative and say momma was a Belgian Malinois fancy show dog who had a quickie fling with the neighbor’s border collie mix, and your family friend was giving the puppies away to protect her championship and bloodline reputation.
When it comes to mixed breeds unless you have DNA there really is no telling and frankly going by looks is often wrong as we see again and again on Reddit.
I adopted a 10 yr old pitsky who acts nothing like either breed, his previous people assured me he was a lab heeler mix. Embark did not agree, but I love him no matter.
If you struggle with any kind of mental health issues I would recommend getting them certified as an emotional support animal. On top of not being able to deny you housing your pet, they are also unable to charge you additional fees for having them.

Pay the money, take him to the vet, get papers that say “mixed”. Should help with lease paperwork if that’s what you’re after. And remember, he only weighs 49lbs or less.

You could try Malinois, if that's not a restricted breed in your area. A Malinois/Husky mix. Of course, this might be a problem if a potential landlord knows why they're nicknamed Maligators

My Maggie is mainly a Chow/Husky/Pittie mix. So I would just say husky mix to be safe.
German Shepard Mix. They also will face some bans but it's a lot less likely than any bully breeds. Is he actually part German Shepard? He kinda looks more German Shepard than pitbull.
Love his heterochromia! My daughter has an iris coloboma (it does not affect her vision, but gives a unique appearance) and I love unique eyes. Such a cutie 🥰

My pup had 26 😂 the highest percent was only 18% so it wasn’t really prominent what he was I got to put Labrador mix

if they are asking for papers for your dogs you can edit pdf to change breed. if they ask for a pic send a pic of another dog. As long as your dog isn't an asshole I haven't had any issues with neighbors.

This is definitely Doofus, part of the security breed from Lichtenstein. They’re known for splaying ears like a hat, heterochromia, and ambidextrous ear flagging. All breeds are ok as an emotional support animal, but the Lichtensteinian Doofus is not one of them.

Go with medium mutt because I'm seeing a lot of different breeds. When they ask you to be more specific, say he's a rescue not purchased from a breeder so 🤷🏼♀️. Offer to get a temperament assessment from a vet.

Personally I would get creative and say momma was a Belgian Malinois fancy show dog who had a quickie fling with the neighbor’s border collie mix, and your family friend was giving the puppies away to protect her championship and bloodline reputation. When it comes to mixed breeds unless you have DNA there really is no telling and frankly going by looks is often wrong as we see again and again on Reddit. I adopted a 10 yr old pitsky who acts nothing like either breed, his previous people assured me he was a lab heeler mix. Embark did not agree, but I love him no matter.
