I saw Bad Religion for the first time when I was 15 at Metropol! I'm super bummed that I can't make it tonight, but I hope your daughter has as good a time as I did back then.
I've been to plenty of shows in and outside. Security has never been friendly, but I've never had any issues either. Leave bags at home for sure. Be prepared to pay way too much for drinks. You can get a much more chill experience hanging at the top of the hill, if you like that or need a break. Bathrooms in the building or the trailers are in way better shape than any of the clubs when I was a teenager.
Sing along to all the Bad Religion songs for me!
Saw Social Distortion and Sonic Youth open for Neil Young. That was a long time ago.
Edit: Sonic Youth had a bigger rep at the time (and since) but I thought Social Distortion was way better live!
It was definitely right around that time! I’m sure I still have the ticket stub somewhere.
I also love Face to Face. I’m gonna have to queue some up now.
My first post named the venue and was auto-removed. The mods' canned response directed me to other posts asking questions about the venue, which were useless.
Instead of contacting the mods, I thought it would be more efficient to repost without naming the venue.
Edit: Typo
Stage AE outdoors is an amazing place to watch a show. We’re frankly spoiled having it here in Pittsburgh. My wife and I are past our pit days, so we tend to go for halfway back on the lawn. I have had nothing but positive experiences there. Food and drink options for sure, and I would say security is solid. I have seen several people removed for being too drunk over the years. I was also at the Coheed and Cambria show where Taking Back Sunday opened/co-headlined a few years ago, and TBS stopped a song in the middle of playing so Adam Lazzara could point out a guy in the pit who sucker punched someone. Security was in and had him out in about 30 seconds, and TBS resumed the song right where they left off. Never been a big fan of their music, but I gained a serious amount of respect for them that day.
My two cents: This show is sold out and it's a generally older crowd (34-55) which means a LOT of people are going to try and show up right in time for the first band they want to see. I recommend arriving at 7 to beat the bulk of the crowd that shows up right at 8 for Bad Religion and then get mad that they got stuck in the line with the 4000 other people who had the same idea as they did.
Show is outdoors. Should be dry but it'll be chilly tonight.
You guys are going to have a great time! I haven't been since the st vincent show a few years ago, but I used to catch a lot of shows there with younger family members.
My advice: get food before the show and travel light as possible. Don't bring a carabiner and they have a strict bag policy so it's best to wear something with usable pockets. Bring a warm jacket/ maybe hat and gloves if they don't move it inside ( its super cold by the rivers). Plan to spend too much on water.
The hill is more chill and better for shorties to get a clear view. Locate the bathrooms and make a plan with a meet up spot in case you get separated, especially if she's not used to loud crowds. I also suggest a safeword in case someone nearby is making her uncomfortable and she wants to dip in a nonconfrontational way.
Awesome mom? Unfortunately, no. Dad with questionable judgment? Certainly.
I appreciate the response. I have seen Bad Religion a number of times, but never Social D (something always got in the way).
Oops, sorry! Don't worry about it, the crowd will be a little older and probably more chill. You'll have a blast. My old man only ever took me to see a Jimmy Buffet cover band in OCMD when I was a teen lol.
if you take a purse, make sure it's stadium-approved size (5x8 i think?) or it's clear/see-through. if you use a carabiner for your keys, you can't bring those in. no blankets or umbrellas.
I’ll be there as well. I enjoy the venue for the most part. I believe there are atms there if needed. I was most recently there for Mastodon and Gojira. I’ve never had issues with security but everyone’s experience can vary
I personally love outdoor shows at Stage AE. I saw many summer shows there as a teen. I even felt safe going to shows there alone. If you want to be close to the stage, you definitely can be, but if you or she starts to feel overwhelmed, yinz can always move towards the back and get some space. Security is fine. No re-entry. Can't remember their bag policy. You guys will have a great time. Bring ponchos in case the weather is shit.
I was there last night for AJJ. I didn’t see any food on the menu but saw someone with nachos. Water was $6 and beer was $12. If you’re worried about a rambunctious crowd, the lawn is a good place to be. People were just hanging out, sitting on the ground. The area in front of the stage was where everyone was going crazy.
Just was there for Say Anything on Wednesday. Security was fine, merch lines were miles long, sound was pretty decent. Food options are really nothing to write home about, so consider grabbing something before getting inside. You and your kid will have a blast, but definitely bring a hoodie or jacket, especially if you're not gonna be in the pit jumping around to keep warm.
Super sad to be missing the show tonight! Sold out before I got the dough for tickets for the wife and I. It’s gonna be a blast, have fun and FUCK ARMAGEDDON THIS IS HELL!
There are still tickets on the secondary market (seatdork and stubschlub), but they are expensive + fees. If you wait until an hour before the show, you might get a decent deal if there are any left.
I’m really thinking about it, worst comes to worst me and the Mrs will have a date night out of it. Im getting tickets to Aquabats and Streetlight so I’m not too too bummed if I can’t. Not to mention I’ve seen BR more than any other band (still sucks, they are killer live)
Security is almost ALWAYS rude/aggressive. Don’t bring any bags. If you absolutely need to bring a bag, follow their guidelines of a clear, tiny bag. The prices for drinks are outrageous, they do not provide water coolers or anything at the venue, you will have to buy bottles there, and drink it immediately because you are not allowed to keep your bottle cap. People will definitely be over-served alcohol, just keep that in mind.
I’m not trying to be negative, I have unfortunately almost always have had a terrible time with this venue because of how it’s run. But, unfortunately, artists that I enjoy always end up there. I just want to make sure you guys are set up for a good night and are prepared!
I asked the bar for just water and they said I had to buy a bottle if I wanted any. Multiple times at this venue. And I don’t drink alcohol, so I was trying to keep myself hydrated.
> they do not provide water coolers or anything at the venue
they have water fountains by the main restrooms indoors, by the entry gate.
bottle cap rule is typically set by artists who have been belted in the face with a sealed bottle of water. also there's a tiktok trend lately to brain artists with bottles of water so don't expect this rule to go away anytime soon.
Both of you download & make an account on the American eagle app and you can go through the “vip” entrance. Nothing really vip about it other than the shorter line.

Take a coat it’s gonna get cold down there if they don’t decide to move it indoors.
I don't think they can move it indoors. It's sold out and the outdoor capacity is over twice as high as indoors.
It is not going to get cold. It's a punk show and everyone is going to be nut to butt.

I saw that show in Maine, that was back during the last century.
Ditto. Early 90s in Toronto at the old Maple Leaf Gardens rink
Sonic youth shows are adventures never know what you will get.
All their kit broke down and they spent an hour not engaging the crowd and walking around on stage. I remember this 30 years later.
And they recorded that show and made it a record. 🤣
Was this at the Syria Mosque?
Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Canada Edit: looked it up. Valentine's Day 1991
I was there and got to hang with the crew and burn one with them. Great show!
Was that the 94’ish show? Face to Face opened up? God I love Face to Face… Saw Social D around that time too… man…
It was definitely right around that time! I’m sure I still have the ticket stub somewhere. I also love Face to Face. I’m gonna have to queue some up now.
What’s with not saying stage AE?

So weird. Also, I was trying to figure out why anyone would pronounce PPG that way 😂
I was thinking the same thing. And then I was like "Wow" Social Distortion is selling out PPG Arena??!!
“🎶 let’s talk about page bay-bee. Let's talk about you and me. Let's talk about all the good things, and the bad things that…🎶” 😂😂

same, I love their outdoor shows!!
Unless its wintertime, outdoor shows at the place that rhymes with page bay-bee are 100x better than indoor shows.

I dunno but I saw Social D at the Graffiti in the early 90's and they killed it. You are an awesome mom.

You’re the mom now, dad.
You’re the dog now, man.
Yes, YES
Mr. Mom starring Michael Keaton

All good, my friend.
You should be fine. Just keep your wits and have fun.
With Reverend Horton Heat? That was an awesome show

Buccos play tonight as well. Expect heavy traffic and parking to be tight.
Great point. It's going to be a mess down there.

Good lord, the Aquabats are still around?!
Hahaha! Yes! They actually have an album out called FINALLY! lol
I've taken a chair and just sat in the park across the street to hear sold out shows. There are usually a few others doing the same.
Love Bad Religion! Didn't know they were in town. Have fun.

Could one theoretically bring their own bottle cap?
I feel like security would confiscate it but, I won’t snitch, you do you 😂

Prison wallet bottle cap
I have never had a bad time with security there and also they do hand out water, if you need some ask a yellow shirt employee.

Next time I’ll look out for a yellow shirt, I appreciate this advice.
The security guy that wanded me complimented me on my jacket. I'm just an ugly dude with plain green button up.
I’m glad your experience was far better than any I’ve ever had there!

yeah but people didn't used to film it for fake internet points.

I'll be there. I guess I'll be dressing warm.
My motto: Pick out something warm and then wear something warmer.
More like Dad Religion, their fanbase has to be in their fifties by now.

Just commenting to say that I am super jealous that you guys get to see Social Distortion. Wish I still lived in Pittsburgh so I could see them
Ok now I need to hear stories of getting hailed on (assuming it did, bc it did in my neighborhood) during the show. It was after 7, but not much
The show was great and it didn't hail. Barely a sprinkle.
Pretty sure you can say Stage AE
See my other response. I had it in the title and it was auto-removed.
