I love the art too! My initial goal was to only collect the pikachu AA cards, but I couldn’t pass the gourgeist up when the opportunity to buy it came along
I started in early 2020 like most people did - filling out binder sets of Base through Neo, as well as some of the modern sets at the time like Cosmic Eclipse and Hidden Fates. That turned into collecting PSA 10s from those same sets as well as some more “niche” Japanese exclusive sets.
Around mid 2021, I allowed myself a greater budget for collecting and decided to chase harder to find cards. I considered Trophies, but I’d realistically only be able to buy one or two at this point, which wouldn’t really scratch the collector’s itch for me. Collecting all Pikachu AAs is something that is theoretically affordable (aside from the ones that never go for sale publicly) so that’s the route I went. I considered other illustration contests, and I hope to own some of those Zoruas one day, but as an overall set I preferred Art Academy.
I'm so jealous you got the Rina Gourgeist. I too got back into collecting/playing at the end of 2020, and have a decent amount of money set aside if a raw copy ever becomes available. Not going to lie, I just want to play with it in my GLC deck and show it off because it's such a strong spread attacker lol. The only one I've seen on sale in the last 3 months is a CGC pristine 10 and the buy it now is $85k. WAYYY out of my price range for something I want to play with.
Holy damn that first card illustration is insane. I’m kinda of upset such cool illustrations are limited to such a small print area - there are so many amazing illustrations you can’t even fully enjoy because of this or test overlapping..

I bought a house and had another kid recently, so I've slowed down a bit on the collection progress, but I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things again soon!
Awesome collection! Great grades as well. :) I especially love the Gourgeist! I kinda regret not picking one up when they were more affordable (by today's standards, at the time it was still pretty high for the market). I collect Pikachu myself, so I've primarily been focusing on getting those, which is already hard enough as is considering 12 out of 22 Art Academy cards is a Pikachu. -\_- I'm glad to say I do have those other four (plus three more). But I doubt I'll be able to find the missing five anytime soon with today's prices. :'(

Good luck completing the set! My goal with Art Academy is also to get the 12 pikachus, though I'm way late to the party so I've got some catching up to do. I hope the more elusive ones become available some day, but I'm not in too much of a rush since it's all part of the fun of collecting.

Ah, I bought that from you? Thanks again! :D Still looking for the second Glossy Keiji Kinebuchi Pikachu haha. But I'm glad to have this officially released one. The other is rumored (not known yet) to be a prototype. The difference is that it's artwork is shifted quite a bit. It's even harder to find than the regular Glossy Keiji Kinebuchi version you've sold me, and I haven't seen too many of those either thus far. :/

I admire your dedication to collecting all variants - it must be really exciting when new variants like that are discovered and a new card gets added to your collection goals.

Yeah, for sure. Doesn't happen too often anymore lately. And if it happens, the card is usually crazy rare unfortunately, like that shifted Glossy Keiji Kinebuchi Ivy Pikachu, haha. ;p
One of my friends (who has judge worlds etc so has really good connections in the pokemon community) has the Goomy one, and the pikachu in space! Love them, and more of the unique things to collect
