Honestly I'm so easily distracted by the next shiny thing that I buy a Jan-Dec planner and then decide the next new thing that starts in July will surely be The One.

prespaj

haha exactly this, I was thinking…”both”

PuzzleheadedBet9013

What if you bought a July - June planner, then had the option to buy the next 6 months if you wish to have 18 months in total. It would be the same layout as the July - June with some more notes pages etc. Then the option will be yours, once the 18 months is up, to buy 6 months, 12 months or 18 months.

Arete108

I would be happy to buy a 6 month planner outright, but I don't know how you would add pages to an existing one unless it's ringbound / discbound. I'm pretty sure most planner companies know that people get distracted after a few months.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

Maybe I will do a 6 month one too then, it would be ring bound. Yeah I was thinking they would but it’s a nice idea for people to try and complete the year. I don’t want the impression where I would be ripping people off because they won’t use half of the planner.

julialoveslush

Erin condren do a six month

spicer09

Jan to dec. It give me the heebies to find another one in the half year lol.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

What if you had the choice to buy 6 months worth? So it would be July - June, then just get another 6 months when June is finished?

National_Sky_9120

July to June. My life operates on academic schedules lol

PuzzleheadedBet9013

I think a lot of our lives do to be honest :)

Effective-Session-73

Because of school, I would prefer the July of June, but those aren’t available in the brand that I buy, so I’ll buy January to December. It works.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

I was also thinking with a lot of people in school and term times. Could I ask which brand you use?

Effective-Session-73

I rebelled against Hobonichi a couple of years ago because of the price and now I choose to buy Kinbor, a Hobonichi dupe. I really do like it better because 1) it is significantly cheaper, and 2) there are no quotes at the bottom so I get to use the whole page. In previous years, I used the Kinbor A6. This year I switched to the Kinbor weekly that has the same style and layout as the Hobonichi Weeks.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

I will definitely have a look at that one, thank you.

aldora36

In my personal and work life... Jan-Dec. If I were a student...Jul-Jun.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

What if it was a July - June planner, but having the choice to buy another 6 months a bit later in the year, so technically having 18 months.

Indecisive-knitter

The holidays are always so busy, and that lay of winter is miserable where I live anyway, so I’m more likely to start my new planner off on a good foot in July starts. Some brands also have 6 month planners, like the Habonichi ones, if you just want to finish out this year than do a 12 month next year.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

Yeah the festive period is always manic and don’t always find time for yourself so planning is hard. I was thinking of doing a 6 month planner but felt that it would be a waste of money buying one for 6 months then having to buy another one. This kind of back fires on the wasting money, but what if there was a July - June planner, then having the option to buy another 6 months later in the year to make it 18 months in total. The 6 months will be at a lower price than the yearly one saving you money.

Indecisive-knitter

I don’t know if this is what you’re referring to, but there are 18 month planners for sale with a July start. They would be July 2024 - December 2025 From what I found the price seemed fair for some 6 month planners, but you could also do a Bujo layout and do whatever you want to

Comfortable-Wisher

I prefer April-March because spring seems like a better time to start new things. If that's not available, I usually switch whenever the new one comes out lol so each planner only has 6 months!!! LOL

PuzzleheadedBet9013

If that works for you then definitely keep at it :) everyone has their own times they find better to start new things. What if you had a July - June, but have the option to buy another 6 months, so you will technically have 18 months, covering you through spring.

Comfortable-Wisher

I don't understand how this is a response to what I wrote? Starting new goals like exercise in Spring is \*literally better\* because the weather isn't so terrible. It's well shown that poor weather holds many people back from new goals. If I had a July-June, and had another 6 months, it would only cover spring once, and cover summer and fall twice. So I also do not understand how that is related to what I wrote in any way.

AmyOtherAmy

I am setting up my new July start Common Planner now as I have decided to move away from January as THE planner month, and I have to say I'm really enjoying the lower stress around the July start. (I will still have the Jibun Techo Days in January, but that planner runs in six month books anyway and is no big deal to set up.) Since you're dating it anyway, I'd go with July.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

January is still slightly busy from the festive period. So starting in July makes sense. It will keep the year at a steady pace and not stress too much. I don’t see myself doing 6 month planners, I feel that they are a waste of money to the people buying them as they would have to buy another 6 months after. I mean if that works best for them, great and I will probably look into that.

Canadian_shack

I like a January start, and if I can make myself wait, I like to fill in all the recurring info during the slack period from Christmas to New Years as a treat.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

I mean that is a good idea, it’s always nice to start something new or something again once the busy period is over.

Accurate-Elk4053

As an educator and a mom of a high schooler, my life runs on an academic year - so July-June is my primary planner.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

You definitely got a busy life. Would you still use a July - June planner for self care, or would you prefer a Jan - Dec for self care?

Accurate-Elk4053

Yes - my main planner is academic. It’s my catch all so I know exactly what’s going on at any given moment. I have to be able to see every event and appointment (marching band for daughter, PTA/staff meetings/school events for me, travel schedule for husband) I do have a yearly (Jan-Dec) Prayerful Planner that I use for scripture writing and using as kind of a diary/journal. But my workhorse is my academic weekly Plum Planner.

Sufficient_Letter883

Jan-Dec. It seems unnatural otherwise.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

That’s what I thought too, the year starts with January so it’s natural to start it then, but now it’s half way through the year, would it be a waste to have it start from January as no one will use the first half of the year?

Sufficient_Letter883

You're right. If you're gonna start it now you should have it start with July-June.

FueledByFlan

I prefer July-June because the holidays are already hectic enough without having to shop for a planner in the middle of everything.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

That makes total sense. At least with the July - June planner you can plan for the holidays and make it a little less stressful.

FueledByFlan

Yeah. Also, close to transition time, I have to carry two agendas at a time. I'm already wearing more layers for winter, so I prefer to carry less during that time. (I'm in the Northern Hemisphere)

courtobrien

I just bought a dated planner for the kitchen bench (shared household & bills etc), and it’s 18 month July 24-Dec 25. So I get to scratch the mid year itch with household planning, can finish out the years journal (I sort of combined the two) then go 6 monthly with journals and see how I’m feeling for 2026 😂 I like a very structured planner, but am easing into looser journaling without freaking about mistakes etc. I keep them both nearby at all times. Depends if you get tired of the same planner easily, and if you keep “other” planners too

PuzzleheadedBet9013

You’re very organised and got everything how you like it, I love that. Everyone journals and plans differently, I like a tidy planner but each to their own 😊 sometimes I buy a planner, do a week then I get bored and distracted. I’m soo useless at planning. I’m making a self care planner, we often to forget our self care and it’s as important as any other things in our lives.

AwayPoem7090

Jan. to Dec.

KeyLimeInk

Academic year planners are my favorite. My brain works in "school mode" since my family members were mostly educators and I spent so many years as a student and then teacher. I still have an urge to purchase new shoes, outfits, and office supplies in late August.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

Definitely sunk into school mode then :) would this still be the case if it was a self care planner?

Adorable_Dimension47

January to December. But when I was a student I used a July to June.

PuzzleheadedBet9013

Yeah a lot of people are the same, since coming out of being a student, people change their planners.

DramaticFlamingo2396

I buy inserts for the year starting July 1-June 30th so I have it all together when things are busy around Christmas time. This is pertaining to my personal planner. I added a yearly insert for 1/1-12/31 for business so it's easier for tax purposes.

faerydenaery

When I was in school I always did July-June, I switched to an undated for a while while I was trying to figure out what I needed once I was out of school, and now I do January-December. Now that my child is in school I feel like maybe I should switch back, but I honestly feel like summers are too hectic to be making my planner transition now, and I can’t imagine switching part way through a planner or buying one halfway through the time it covers without feeling way too guilty about my budget unless the system I was using absolutely wasn’t working for me
