I literally just transfer this water spinaches from my enclosed seedling tray to a pot a couple of days ago. Something just laid eggs on it. I don't see any insects crawling anywhere near it so it must be something that can fly. Also this is 100% kept indoors using grow leds. Edit: that brown specs on the bottom middle unhealthy looking leaf are just coco coir. The medium I'm using is buffered coco coir and 30% perlite Super edit: these aren't eggs theyre edema! Might have caused by my nutes lacking calcium.

itismeonline

Can you highlight the portion where you see the "eggs" you refer to please?

Pinesse

It's the white bumps on the top right and top middle leaves. Edit nevermind these aren't eggs, its just edema.

itismeonline

It's caused by the excess of minerals in hard water used to water the plant. The plant is trying to get rid of the excess through its pores. The evaporating water leaves behind the mineral deposit.

itismeonline

It's generally not harmful to the plant unless the mineral content is excessive & the plant cannot successfully get rid of it enough over a prolonged span of time.

Haha yeah, i already deleted those leaves. Never occurred to me that the edema on water spinach just looks plain alien like. I think i messed up my nutrition. I gave it my 1/4 strength mix of nutrients but i probably gave it full strength. I keep messing up the liter and gallon ratios ughh.

itismeonline

Is the plant in a pot with drainage holes? What kind of fert did you use? Liquid or solid?

Pinesse

Sorry for late reply, I'm using a self watering planter (wicking) using 70/30 coco perlite mix. I'm using big grow liquid fertilizer with calimagic. Its kinda like hydroponics and I have this indoors with a grow light. This plant is growing crazy and drinking 1L of nutes almost every 5 days, I'm still trying to figure out how to balance the dilution to prevent the edema, or maybe my super hard water could also be the factor.

If those "eggs" are still there after 3 weeks (since your reply) & they cannot be dislodged with mild pressure easily... well, then they're NOT eggs! What you're seeing is most likely mineral deposits trapped in the leaves due to excessive mineral salts in the water. You need to recalibrate or stop using nutes for sometime!

Oops. We already had this discussion three weeks ago. The same reasoning is valid. 👍
