Meganium, according to the Pokedex the aroma it gives off is super calming so you would never have to be angry or stressed ever again. It's also large enough that you could ride it around if you wanted too but not large enough that it couldn't live in a house standing at 5'11( 1.8m) and around 220 pounds(100 kg) , like that's the size of just a dude and also meganium is my favorite starter line and it's super cute. Who wouldn't want a dinosaur that keeps you calm and can eat sunlight walking around your house

This is the most practical and realistic answer, tbh. The Chik line is so calm and non-threatening. As much as I love Totodile, I don't think a chaotic little guy that turns into a giant alligator is safe lol

I agree, not that I'd need help sleeping, but I know plenty of people that do. Chikorita being my favourite starter helps as well. Sauropods are my favourite kind of dinosaur.

Chikorita for the backyard garden is too OP. Get a place with a big yard in a low COL area. Have a big fenced area for your dinosaur tree to hangout. It helps you grow plants and gives off calming aroma to you and your friends.  You sell the plants at a local farmers market to support yourself, and eat the rest.  And you have a dino friend to hang out with! Win win win

Grookey would be a solid pick. Not only is Grookey adorable, but in the anime it could grow flowers by smacking its stick on the ground. That sounds like easy money for an expansive gardening service. We show up, Grookey bonks his stick around a few times and we're out of the owners hair within minutes with a check. Grookey gets to grow flowers and gets his portion of the cash, everyone wins.

Poplio. Primariana's fairy type is strong against Dark and Fighting, which are the two most common secondary types for starters. Since everyone in this thread has a starter, I'll have an advantage against most of them.

Not my favorite starter, but I'd choose Charizard because if a zombie apocalypse ever happens, It could fly me to safety and make sure my food is nice and cooked.

Is this a typical starter or can I choose something unconventional? As for typical it would depend. Charizard may be overrated, but it can work as a great flying mount. On the other hand, Meganium, as shown in the anime, has the power to heal (?) some Pokemon, which can be useful. I don't know, I usually considered my first Pokemon to be one that we didn't usually choose as a starter in games like Ampharos (my long-time favorite) or Vikavolt. Both would be useful in their own way.Lycanroc Midday form would be a nice dog with a great sense of smell. However, apparently when they greet each other, they rub their stones on the neck on the human body and it could be quite unpleasant

Gen 1: Charmander, because flying around as Charizard *Lets Go: Eevee and make it an Umbreon Gen 2: Chikorita, they are all cool. Meganium as final evolution bit dissapointing however the sweet scent as aroma therapie would be valuable. Preferring it not evolving Gen 3: Treecko, ninja vibes would pair well in doubles (2v2) [Sceptile] Gen 4: Piplup, because penguins. Either base or final evolution Gen 5: .... least favorite starters odd designs. Guess Tepig and keeping it unevolved. Would make a fun pet and helpful finding objects with its smell. Gen 6: Froakie -> Greninja. Double team with Sceptile for the ninja vibes Gen 7: Rowlet -> Decidueye. I like the archer vibe and also ghost pokemon are my favorite Gen 8: Scorbunny -> Cinderace, a pkmn to play football with. Gen 9: Dont know much about them yet. Would probably go for Sprigatito and keep it at base evolution. Also the aroma therapie and easy to keep as a cat. Legends Arceys: Cyndaquil the ghost typig is the decider. Non starter choices if we can decide on our own: Gastly -> Gengar, a pkmn that can make you laugh Charcadet -> Ceruledge. Just cool vibes Legendary/mythical/ultrabeasts pick: Blacephalon good for parties, always have fireworks.

For me it's hard to decide. It's between Fennekin, Rowlet and Popplio

Since I live in South Texas, where it's sunny as hell, objectively, a grass-type like Bulbasaur or Chikorita would thrive here (their Solarbeams alone would be epic), but if I was to go off of my personal favorites. I probably go for a Charmander and turn up the heat if needed. If we go beyond starters, I probably want to have either a Pidgey or a Zubat since I love flyers.

Probably Rowlett. Ghosts, nature, and owls are kinda my thing.

To be honest, while I like the reptilian starters, in real life I’d probably prefer a more cuddly option. Probably sprigatito - just like a super smart cat pet.

It's one of the few starters where I like all of its evolutions, is based on something I like the real world equivalent of, doesn't have any dangerous external elements (spikes, fire, etc.) would have a nice, fluffy texture and wouldn't be so huge as to be cumbersome. (Venusaur for example would be too wide to fit through doors.) I like Squirtle and all its evolutions a lot but I'm not the biggest fan of real turtles or the texture of the skin/shell. I like Cyndaquil and all its evolutions a lot but wouldn't want to deal with the potential consequences of a fire mane/tail. I like Torchic, Piplup and Oshawott a lot but don't necessarily feel the same way about some of their evolutions. Sprigatito and Scorbunny are viable options for me and would be my 2nd and 3rd choice in that order but I simply don't like those Pokemon as much as Fennekin and don't have anywhere near as much experience using them in the games compared to Fennekin's evo line. I kept it to just traditional starters that we typically have to choose from but Pikachu and Eevee would both dethrone Fennekin in that order for me otherwise. Rodents are my favorite type of animal plus Raichu is one of my favorite Pokemon and would be my most favorite with my other top 2 being unavailable in this. Eevee on the other hand has a lot of evolutions in which I like all of them and I happen to like the prospect of having a Glaceon. I'm the kind of person that loves winter and can't stand the heat along with Glaceon being one of my top favorite Pokemon. The thought of it having cold fur is intriguing to me.
