Couldn't agree more. It's an area that no one would ever think to go to unless they were just exploring the map. The fact that there's a tiny challenge there for having to beat 3 trainers in a row feels like a neat little reward.
I'm struggling to remember but do you get an item or something for beating them?
Mostly cause it doesn't hold your hand or make it obvious. From this to tohjo falls or deep into slowpoke well.
Places you'd never go unless you were curious
I found this place in Silver once at a point where I was absolutely not prepared for three battles in a row, especially not against a Seaking, a Starmie, and a Cloyster. I whited out and lost half my money.
So yeah, I don't exactly share everyone else's nostalgia for this place 😅
I really loved those islands around Dewford too. You had no reason to go there other than exploring, it is so fun when a pokemon game feels like it has "wilderness".
Cerulean Cave and Mt. Silver are kinda like that too, although you know there is bound to be some big bad deep in those places haha.
The second I got surf, I decided to go all the way back to the first town to go surfing in any body of water I could find on the way back to where I was. That’s how I found out you could go to Kanto in Gen 2.

Soft sand
I feel like they give you a pink bow or some held item
You get a soft sand in Gen 2 and a power herb in Gen 4.
something about gen 2's hidden areas felt the most special and im not sure why

*The Elite Three*
Wish they had the multi Pokémon battles. Imagine 3 v 3 here haha
That would be epic!
The first time I found this spot (20 some years ago) That was EXACTLY what I thought was about to happen lol
holy crap I have like 200 hrs in Crystal and I never went here
It's south of the day care, surfing
I’ve always thought of this like it’s own bootleg gym lol

Where is this at?
Right before the day care look to the left, go on that body of water and surf left a bit and down. Then this will be bestowed upon you
[Here](https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Johto_Route_34) is a map of Route 34. You can see them at the bottom.
Favourite thing about the early gens is all the cool things they hid away as rewards if you explored.
Gen 3 was so cool with the braille stuff and feebas, clamperl evolutions etc.. #gen3best

Man I have no idea how we ever figured out the braile shit back th3n
I had the hardback A4 walk through guide! That shit was GOATed!
The manual had the alphabet, and yea the strategy guide as someone else said
First time I found this place on my GBC silver was amazing! Definitely love the hidden areas like this!
I didn’t know I found a secret all this time 😅
Coming here with no heal items and your Pokémon’s hp is low… the worst 😂😂 iykyk
When I was a kid I thought they were wearing medieval helmets
I can’t I see this now 🤣🤣
True 😂😂
They will kick your ass if you challenge them too early.
Been over 20 years and I’ve never seen this before! I thought it was a glitch/cheat area at first with the three identical characters!
For 23 years I never knew about this. Remember when Pokemon games were good?
Oh wow 😮
I don't remember this. Imma go there tomorrow
I love how they all use Pokemon lines of Misty’s Pokemon.
Nobody talks about how difficult this area is when you’re not prepared. Personally I found this gauntlet more difficult than Whitney and Claire.
Defiantly a treat for explorers.
Oh wow 😮
Oh wow I've never seen this before! Where is this exactly? I need to investigate!
By the daycare
Wow I never knew this. Are they tough to beat or just 3 regular trainers?
If you challenge them as soon as you get Surf they can be very tough

"Do you know what you just did?"
I love this secret area, I discovered it after I've beaten red and was collecting for the Pokedex
Did all these trainers have some Eevee line?
Nop, water types
Fuck these hoes, I whited out on them when I was little
How did I not find this?!
Isn't this where you farm the three legendary encounters?
I do that on the land between the lakes by mahogany town on the way to ice path
Yes I would like to report a murder
I encountered this a couple times. My mind always went to, “Nice! A little 3v1 action in the woods, this isn’t weird at all😏🤣”
