They just mean the fact that it's not always your current buddy that spawns as a zorua, can be any that you've had recently.
So if you have a galarian buddy then change it right before using the incense you can still get a zorua spawn during the incense that takes the form of the galarian bird that was your buddy.
To clarify the "any that you've had recently" part: Zorua will be disguised as the buddy you had when Zorua spawned on the map (even if you were far from their spawn location), if you had a buddy at that time (some tricks exist to remove a buddy from your history, allowing you to let Zorua spawn undisguised).
The lifespan of daily incense spawns is very short, so you don't need to be careful about what your buddy was during the day: only the last 30 seconds matter here, so you can safely use a Galarian bird as your buddy any other time of the day, and won't be tricked by a Zorua.
I get that but also if you already have that particular bird then why use the one Master Ball you have for who knows how long, when you could use it on one you don't have for a full set.
If they already had a galarian articuno, it's on them for using a master ball on another one. I know it was high CP, but at that point just save your master ball for a shiny legendary or something else
I thought this was raids only? People reported having a shiny wild latios and it taking the majority of their balls because shiny legendaries can't flee
You're absolutely right on both points. Only shiny raid bosses are a guaranteed catch, and shiny Latios and Latias WERE featured in the wild as part of a paid event (Go Fest?). That's certainly overlooked as a time when you might use a master ball. (Also, as you mentioned, Lati@s was incredibly hard to catch but it also didn't flee. I just ran from mine, rather than wasting balls.)
It could’ve been a former buddy and not his active buddy which would be a bit more reasonable.. but even still you have to own a G-Articuno already so using your sole master ball on a dupe G-Articuno is deserving of this Zorua imo
Surprisingly Zorua can appear as a Galarian Articuno even when it’s not your buddy. I had this exact thing happen to me, luckily mine had the best buddy ribbon so I knew it was Zorua lol
You shouldn't be surprised that something doesn't work as expected in this game. It's probably because both Articuno likely exist under the same Dex number combined with Niantic's lack of foresight and extreme lack of competence.
Foresight? Me and a bunch of people were talking the very day master balls where revealed and mentioned this exact scenario, of course I got downvoted a bunch "because who would be stupid enough to do that"
Anyone who genuinely believes that Niantic has that kind of foresight is just willfully ignorant at this point. They've made it abundantly clear they haven't the slightest clue what they're doing. It used to confuse me how they landed the Pokemon IP but look at what Gamefreak is putting out. There's no such thing as standards in Pokemon anymore. It's all broken, buggy, unfinished, and poorly thought out.

Zorua is a Pokemon that has the ability to disguise itself as other mons. In Pokemon go, if you find a zorua in the wild it will disguise itself as your current buddy
Sorry should have said would ‘be more likely’ to have a good IV. There are fewer poor IV combos likely as the overall CP increases, ie couldn’t have a poor IV and a poor level at 3000cp.
I think statistically as the CP increases, especially towards the maximum possible, the likelihood of a higher IV is going to increase. The highest CP possible is going to be top level + top IV, and the level underneath that is going to be top level+good IVs or near top level + great IVs. As the CP decreases, the amount of possible level/IV combinations would increase, which would see less strong IVs getting added to the potential combinations (the less strong ones not being present in the top IV ranges).
In summary, if you have a pokemon in the top 5% of CPs, you have a greater likelihood of it having a high IV than if it was at the midpoint of CPs.
I don't know if there are any sources that give all combos that I could use to test that hypothesis!
The catch circle when you get ready to throw a ball; green, yellow, orange, dark orange, red; I think there are others as well. But zorua doesn't exactly have the same as a legendary mon it's pretending to be.
Oh right on, I see, so the galarian birds will have a deep red circle on the catch, but a zorua disguised will have a lower catch weight. Okay, I understand I thought you meant the circles before you click on them to catch
There should be an alert that pops up when you try to use a master ball on a ditto or zorua like, "are you sure you want to use a master ball? This pokemon may not be what it seems"

It’s not abnormal to have that much, it is abnormal to have that much dust (lots of time played) and Zorua candy (lots of Zorua caught) without supposedly knowing when you see one.
If it spawns from your daily incense there is no way to tell the difference until after it’s caught
If it spawned any other time/way it would be painfully obvious
It’s circumstantial if you want to use your MB on the birds or not. The person might have all three, Arti might be their favourite, they may want a better IV one. More master balls will come and you have to use them on something I guess and the Galarian birds are the hardest catch rates outside legendaries in the wild during Pokémon go fest.
So, in other words, if it was the highest possible level for a wild pokemon, 0/5/5 would be the *minimum* stats it could have. Meanwhile, there is a good chance it's *not* level 35, and the IVs are much higher. I didn't say high cp meant high IV. I said high cp meant a good chance of high IV.
The max IV for a level 35 galarian articuno is 3334
The max IV for a level 30 galarian articuno is 3077
For this specific galarian articuno at 3096 cp there is a 23% chance of level 35, 35% chance of level 34, 22% chance of level 33, 18% chance of level 32, and 2% chance of level 31.
Not the best of odds for a 3*, but even so, the worst possible IVs are 10/1/6 at level 35 with a 37.78% rating. To get any lower IVs than that you would have to catch a lower cp pokemon, hence my comment about cp and IV.
It's just a bad means of determining it, to base your masterball on assumed IVs based on the CP. 2900 is also "very high CP" but it could easily be 0-0-0. For wild mon, outside 2 very specific scenarios no one should ever look at a CP and draw a conclusion on it's IVs, it's going to be wrong very often.
Its tiny animations only plays if you get an xxs pokémon so im pretty sure thats not how you would tell a zorua from a bird

Zorua always gives the size notification. Also it only disguises as your buddy so the person in the post is either completely clueless or did it on purpose. It’s worth adding they also had a G Articuno already and used the masterball on a “second” one
So I was briefly upset when a shiny purrloin showed up and then wasn't a shiny purrloin. I know they don't show up as shiny but hey maybe a bug? I wanted two so I could have a shiny for liepard, and I got excited and then got a crap zorua which I didn't know existed.
I posted here like wtf and people explained that's how it shows up. I usually only ever have a shiny as my buddy so I haven't been fooled again.
Remember, this is why we do not have our buddies be a pokemon that can appear on the map, because it will absolutely be a Zorua when you need it to not be.
I’m pretty sure that if you encounter a Zorua disguised as your buddy, the CP displayed is whatever CP the Zorua is, not your buddy. There’s no way a disguised Zorua in the wild showed as 3k CP. Or am I trippin?
That is why when I am hunting for a specific Pokémon I make my buddy different from what I’m looking for. And if I am hunting Zoruas I make my buddy a Pokémon that is never seen in the wild or a Zorua itself
How do you not notice? It would be from a daily incense if it were a bird. If zorua did spawn from an incense, then check the circle. Tap on an ultra ball. It’ll be green if it’s zorua
If zorua was disguised as it then you had one as your biddy, so if you had one already using the master ball even if it was real is a waste. You've clearly caught one before without it...
Two things I wouldn't trust.
1) Having a Galarian bird as your buddy is NOT a good idea while using the incense. Literally for this reason.
2) Usually when it's a Zorua in disguise, and it's supposed to be a larger Pokemon, it will say "it's tiny!". If it was a tiny G-Bird, I definitely would not trust and therefore not use my master ball.
However, I can see one getting too excited in the moment. So it's a hard lesson to learn.
If you are this easely tricked, and also, using the MASTER BALL, On a legendary pokemon you alredy have, thats all on you. if you didnt want it wasted, maybe use it on a galarian bird, or legendary you didnt alredy own, karen.

Yeah it’s relatively new, released a little over a week ago. At the moment it’s only possible to obtain one on each account after finishing certain research tasks.
If this player gets their master ball back (I doubt it); that’s dumb. Because if you read about Zorua, it’s the mater of tricks. Game mechanic worked properly (or way better than intended), brain did not work properly.
I'd say it's pretty common knowledge
Could be that you missed it because the original release of Zorua was bugged and was temporarily removed and disabled for trading

You're wrong about the IVs. That could still be all 0s. All IV possibilities are in play for wild pokemon no matter the CP

That's just outright incorrect. You can tell by the color of the circle and usually that you get the "it's tiny" animation.

Two things I wouldn't trust. 1) Having a Galarian bird as your buddy is NOT a good idea while using the incense. Literally for this reason. 2) Usually when it's a Zorua in disguise, and it's supposed to be a larger Pokemon, it will say "it's tiny!". If it was a tiny G-Bird, I definitely would not trust and therefore not use my master ball. However, I can see one getting too excited in the moment. So it's a hard lesson to learn.
