Amazing! Galarians being 6% is nuts lmao.

thorkun

\*with an excellent throw

obviouslyanonymous77

With the smallest possible excellent throw.

medusagardens

No, just a regular excellent throw. I used 1.85 as my multiplier, not 2

Marc_Quill

I always go for a Meowth because 500 base stardust per catch is actually really nice.

medusagardens

So you actually have a higher chance of catching a Galarian Legendary Bird than getting a shiny from a raid (5% chances normally, Raid Days have boosted odds and dont count)... but you have to enounter it first, and get a fantastic throw lol

crytol

Assuming you excellent throw, have platinum medal, golden razz, ultra ball.

Ornery_Obligation_36

What does the medal type refer to?

Never_play_f6

There is a medal for every pokemon type in the game(e.g. normal, fire, water... ), increasing its level after catching a certain amount of pokemon belonging to that type (platinum level is 2500 catches) . The medals give you a permanent boost for catching pokemon of the given type.

Ornery_Obligation_36

cool, i'm pretty much a solid platinum, save for a couple of ghost and steel type

JoviAMP

If you have a Switch with Scarlet or Violet, send a postcard to Paldea. This unlocks the coin bag in Go which spawns roaming form Gimmighoul for 30 minutes and lets you quickly grind your ghost count. If you have a Pokemon Home account, link it to Go and send a Pokemon from Go. This gives you the mystery box in Go which spawns Meltan for one hour and quickly grind your steel count.

While an infographic version of the Gamepress Catch Mechanics page is neat to see, this has some Issues. • It's quite disingenuous to not mention the impact of levels *at all*. The "pokeballfailchance" is actually modified by the level. While it's coincidentally 1.0003x BCR at level 14, the *actual* chance can range from 5.32x at L1 to 0.657x at L35. This has a major impact on the galarian bird rates, for example. In your #4 scenario they'll range from 30% to 4%. • Omitting BFR (base flee rate) is understandable but misses the bigger picture A pokemon which never flees you get infinite tries at, but a Galarian bird fleeing 90% of the time means the total odds are only slightly better than a single throw. So the fleeing odds of the pokemon also influences the final odds to catch it. It's understandable to limit the math to the odds of a single throw, but I'd have mentioned it. The math behind it is just a geometric series sum, which tools like the Gamepress Catch Calculator implement. • Similarly, it's worth having at least a single mention of the non-guaranteed crit catch existing, since it's actually a decent improvement to odds for the toughest catches. • I personally find the Multiplier Increasing statement as you currently have it a bit misleading. Did Research find that the catch multiplier increases with more throws? Yes. Are the precise mechanics of this known? No. We don't know if missing resets it or even increases it, "a few" implies it doesn't start at breakout 1, which it seems to do, and more unanswered variables. Is it limited to legendary raids? It was at least found to not apply to wild spawns, yet we still saw the "throw all your balls away for a galarian bird catch" craze. It's worth saying we don't understand some things yet. • You're also missing out on the hidden 2x multiplier for a research encounter, as found by Silph Research. • That MOST in the guaranteed crit catch section is pulling a *lot* of weight. Should at least clarify it doesn't apply to legendaries, or any low BCR species as that one video found.

medusagardens

Thanks for the constructive criticism. A lot of this kind of info will make it into the next version, if it gets made. It was certainly an oversight not to mention levels beyond what I have (which is not nothing), I guess it may not be obvious that a lv 1 Zapdos has a better catch rate than a lv14…. This is the first I’m hearing of a hidden x2 for research catches, very cool. As for non-guaranteed crit catches, is it worth mentioning just to say that if you got one, it wasn’t because of any multipliers, it was all RNG? The MOST has to carry a lot of weight, because as you said, we don’t understand some things yet. Is it any Pokémon with a 3% rate or less? I could say “Guaranteed Critical Catches cannot be implemented on low base catch rate Pokémon” but without knowing where the line is... Send me a link if you have a specific number. Thanks again!

FatalisticFeline-47

Afaik the non-guaranteed crit catch is a completely random 1% with no way to influence it. Unfortunately the links I [found](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/1bxkjru/comment/kydhwsq/) about the guaranteed catch just stop at "at least <5% BCR, maybe 10%". Definitely excluding legendaries, but unsure where the limit is as you say.

Optimal_Passion_1476

Do medal bonuses stack for pokemon with 2 types?

I-am-a-cardboard-box

No, they average. If you have a gold and a platinum medal of a dual type pokemon, you’ll have a catch rate increase of 1.35x. If you have no medal and a platinum medal for a dual type, it would give you a 1.2x rate, etc.

rttr123

Iirc, it averages

chokeonmywords

That one’s great! Thanks

obviouslyanonymous77

If you hit what would be a guaranteed critical capture on a legendary, is that a full 2.0 multiplier?

medusagardens

"\*You can force a capture on MOST Pokemon by hitting inside the smallest possible circle." Some Pokemon do not have the option for guaranteed critical catches. So I would assume that x1.9999 is as high as you can go on an Eevee before it becomes a critical catch, but it can go up to x2 on a Regigigas that cannot be guaranteed.

jullzy17

Just wondering, do you know what the colour of the circle closing in indicates? Like red, orange, yellow, green?

medusagardens

The closer to 100% catch rate, the greener the circle…?

0m3gaMan5513

Are there any stats on the break out rate when the first throw is an Excellent throw? In my experience I’m going to guess it’s greater than 60%. I can’t be the only one right?

medusagardens

I did not find any info on a "first throw" having any multipliers, so I think you just have bad luck lol

TheMardiParty

You said “real world” application. Go ahead and keep the whole Galarian bird thing the same, but swap out excellent throw for a x1 ‘no circle’ bonus 😂

Zasterzora

Noob question: can you miss with the master ball and then it's just gone or is there some kind of mechanic so you can't lose it like that?

medusagardens

My friend who used their Master Ball says “when you ‘throw’ the ball it does an auto catch. You can’t miss”

AngryBullbog

I've used the expert handler on the Galarian birds 3 times, caught 2 of them, it's weird none of these ever add the expert handler bonus.

medusagardens

I have not read about any multipliers relating to this feature, but that's interesting

Robyle3

Not to be picky, but are the 1-(x) modifiers multiplied by, or raised to the power of the other variables?

phantom56657

How does the level of the Pokemon factor into all of this?

medusagardens

You can see a Lv14 Meowth has a base catch rate of 50%. A Lv13 then would be >50%, and a Lv15 would be<50%.

Sawdust1997

I don’t think you should factor medals into some of your equations. No matter how much “I really want that” if I don’t have the platinum medal, I don’t have the bonus you’re suggesting

medusagardens

It would be silly to not incorporate Medals into the scenarios, as after your first day you will have a Bronze Medal for many types, and a Silver after a couple weeks. The "I kinda want that" scenario uses a Gold Medal, not Platinum, which most players will have after a few months. If you have a slightly different situation than a scenario I've given, then I hope you can guesstimate or use the available equations to calculate what you need to know.

Sawdust1997

Do you think all players have all of the platinum medals? It’s a niche use case, you should highlight the bonus from medals and let people do the math rather than impose medals to categories that might not have them. Just because I really really want this Galarian articuno doesn’t mean I can get the catch rate you propose

medusagardens

Of course not, I don't even have half of the Platinum Type Medals. But I do have Psychic and Flying, so its very relevant for me for Galarian Articuno, and presumably many other players. But get this, you can get a better catch rate with a Gold Medal + a smaller Excellent throw, than a Platinum Medal + the throw used in the equation. If the scenarios aren't helpful for you then don't use that half of the sheet
