Oh man I thought it was just me! I thought I'd slipped into a parallel universe or even worse, lost my skill!
Something's definitely changed and I'm not too keen.
I noticed it during the Goomy event. It was like no matter how much I stopped and focused, and even used banana berries, I could not even land a great throw on one of them.
This was when I first noticed it too- specifically after completing an entei raid during community day and I SOMEHOW missed 5 throws in a row that landed directly in front of him and were very clearly in the circle… massively disheartening. I blew through my great balls just yesterday with a similar situation where I KNEW it wasn’t an issue with my aiming. It’s the first time I put the game down out of frustration.
I personally noticed it during the landorous raids, I threw 75% of my balls what used to be excellent throws right infront of him for TWO RAIDS. In the end I missed like 23 of the 31 balls I had total and didn't catch either of them, even with a few premier ball golden razz excellent throws.
This is exactly when I noticed this issue too! I formed a party with 3 others for the Goomy event and we did the “get 50 great throws” challenge and we only got 28, I had 108 throws (altogether we had 239 throws) and we only had just over half the throws we needed.
I thought it may have only been the Goomys too until I was catching other Pokémon afterwards.
I noticed this about the time I got a new phone, so I just chalked it up to new screen style, lol. Cause everything seems to be registering my finger weird on the Pixel (new one)
I also have a Pixel, and it was absolutely fine until this last AR Update patch came through. Everything they "upgraded" in order to revitalize the community and draw in players has made the game worse. Rest assured it's not the Pixel. It's whomever is abusing their development team with their flat brain ideas.
Yes! My throws end up hitting the side of the middle circle when I could’ve sworn it should’ve been a head on throw. And I find it harder to launch balls for targets that are far away
I'm finding my throws seem to hit the circle for great/excellent but just not count! And it's a lot easier for them to veer off to the side randomly as though I slipped on the mario kart banana and fell on my ass while throwing like WHOOPS TEAM ROCKET'S BLASTING OFF AGAIN
I have to wonder if this is done on purpose, so you’ll waste more balls. More balls wasted means you’ll go through your amount faster, which means you maybe more likely to buy balls.
other people in this thread are discussing how they intentionally make it harder to get balls around special events and even reduce the amount you recieve in gifts. be prepared for increasingly aggressive enshittification in future updates
I've noticed a decline in good throws at the start of any challenges that involve making a large number of specific throws. Sometimes it's more like the ball hits in the right spot but just doesn't register as nice/great, as if the circle had a force field in front of it. This time out, when the throws have to be curved-great, that mons with smaller circles register nice, not great, when over 50% of the inner circle is gone. 50/50 possibility,, indeed.
I've been playing since day one but took a huge break of the game and I recently started playing again and it's unbeliavable there's still quite a number of glitches that were back in 2016. They are mostly animation related stuff like severe clipping and background glitching weirdly, especially on gyms, but it's insane they still haven't fixed them since 2016.
Same here. I can’t believe you can’t read Pokémon names in gyms on an iPhone 14 Pro. It’s right behind the dynamic island. First step inapp development, make sure it works on all the recent phones. I haven’t played in four years. I wanna know what these new creatures are in gyms that I haven’t got yet. It’s quite annoying. Oh well. Hopefully they fix it.
Same. I've had so many flee because I can only get 4/15 or 4/20 to even make it to him even though I'm dragging the throw off the top of the screen. They just fly like the air between us is actually water.
I have been playing on and off since 2016 and never once have I landed a ball BEHIND a Pokémon. But the last few days it’s happened. I couldn’t believe it. Also getting more of those balls hit the mon and bounce back to me and then I land the Pokémon. Got a few excellent curveballs because of that. Although not enough to make up for the wonky throws
I feel this! It also feels like my ball doesn’t curve a lot of the time and just goes straight off screen even though that shit is spinning like a beyblade. It’s beyond frustrating. Sometimes it even feels like it stops spinning mid throw and just falls straight down which is weird as hell.
Yooo same! I thought i was losing my mind. I'll do the exact same technique two times in a row and one will land perfectly while the other yeets of into another dimension
I think the game is mroe sensitive now and you have to be very intentional with your motion. I've noticed that if I'm a little loose the ball often careens of the side, but if I'm very deliberate with my motion it almost never does. I'm guessing that releasing the ball slightly early is leading to the ball going off the side and that the old game was more forgiving on when you released the ball.
YES, for about 2 weeks now I think. Yesterday, I hit a Lickatung in the sweet spot 3 times, but all 3 of the throws went, like, through the circle and bounced off it's chest? Certainly didn't register as a Great/Excellent, but still went into the ball.
Catches have been too funky for statistics to make sense. If I get a great/excellent throw on my first hit, the pokemon often break out (which is stupid when its a freaking 200CP Eevee), and I miss the next throw and it's not even a Nice throw, it just stays in the ball, like 9 out of 10 times. It feels like I'm losing that XP bonus on purpose.
For me, the combination of red pokeball plus excellent throw seems to give a very high breakout and flee rate compared to any other throw type/ball combination. With red pokeballs, great throws give me the highest catch rate (I have platinum medal for every type, so I've caught a few pokemon in my time!).
It's as if Niantic have implemented something to prevent people getting excellent throws every time with auto-catchers or similar add-ons which only use the red balls.
Yeeeep, the run rate seems to be up, too, for a bunch of dudes.
Mayeb youre on to something about the autocatcher, but like I dont want to waste the better balls, I only get to really restock once a week. I hope they readjust whatever they changed.
yeah and also I’ve had a new issue that began around the same time where the game doesn’t register my attempt to throw the ball as an actual attempt. Like instead of throwing the ball after a wound up, it just puts it back to where it was like I wasn’t even trying to throw it. It’s not like where it just drops /throws the ball off screen either, it just resets it. And it deeply pisses me off
also I’ve been keeping a spreadsheet to keep track of the excellent/great/nice curveball thing. Im autistic. It seems like so far the ‘type ‘ of throw has no effect on actually catching the pokémon. Then again, I still need about 100 more entries in each section to make it accurate
I think so. Feels like they are also trying to fix the new iPad version, as it’s trash. You couldn’t throw candies at all before the most recent update
I assume it's a 'feature update', which also depletes our balls before big events. But I have noticed it has changed and has been more difficult to hit those excellent throws. Also Landorus seems to be harder to catch than I remember.

Yeah before comm days I find the stops give less ultra balls too. I live on top of 5 pokestops so basically never run out UNLESS we’re approaching a comm day, then suddenly my ball bag starts emptying. And I have to deal with blue balls, which I basically never use, I mostly have the black balls on hand all the times.
And before egg hatching days, my egg space seems to mysteriously fill up with 5km eggs which i never really have time before the event to hatch, so the hatch days are wasted on me
Or alternately, they've got a way to try to force you to buy their stupid expensive fast hatch incubators and also simultaneously avoid doing things that would give you more crap eggs before it (so no way to boost the ball count if you do that)
A friend invited me to a Landy raid yesterday. I accepted but by the time I almost got in, it said something about not being open or available or summat.
I'm really glad I didn't waste a remote raid pass on it after seeing the lillipup take 6 great balls later that day.
Probably more of an anti-cheating update. When level 50 came out, some “players” around here were using an auto-excellent throw hack (combined with a different location hack) to jump levels at a crazy rate.
Yep. I had the same thing happen yesterday. I had an excellent curveball challenge pop up. Took me 30-40 tries to hit it. Mind you, a month ago I could hit 10 back-to-back while farming raids like it was nothing.

Absolutely. It's like they tweaked it ever so slightly. I usually hit every excellent I try for but now they're all falling slightly short and if I add a little more power they overshoot. Very touchy.
The conspiracy theorist in me thinks they're trying to make excellent throws more difficult. One of the other issues I've noticed lately is pokemon aggression (and attack/jump timing) seems to be semi-optimized Vs the typical excellent throw. And, anecdotally, we've seen that 'sliding' pokemon move to the left for CW throwers and to the right for CCW throwers. Again, anecdotal conspiracy stuff but it does feel that way...

As a casual player, don't care as much.
Used to be a hard-core player until 11 months ago. A lot of the latest "improvements" ruined the game for me personally and now I maybe open it once every 2 or 3 days, catch a pokemon, send a couple of gifts and that's it.
As you said, it's becoming stressful or infuriating me.
No need to have that over a game.
Maybe take a break from the game?
I've noticed a super small delay in my throw, which results in me missing the circle or my bal not being flung hard enough and in the wrong aimed direction.
I've noticed this as well. Sometimes it even seems as thought there is a tiny bit of lag just before the ball hits, where it slows the ball but the circle is unaffected, causing you to miss the bonus.
Not only a delay, but it seems like the ball is dodging/sliding a bit after hitting a mon - it hits, then it goes few more „millimeters” in the direction of throw.
I could throw balls lazily with one hand just using my thumb and get great curveballs. Now I can’t land any thumb throws. I have to hold phone with both hands and use index finger and really try now to land those.
I am glad this was posted. I thought I had suddenly lost all my skill in throwing Excellent throws. Glad it happened on the last day of the 2x catch XP event.
Same! I hit excellent throws all the time (probably >90% if I'm really trying) and since the last day of that event, I'm been missing either down or to the side by a bit. So strange!
You mean like you can’t get enough distance with your ball? Cause I totally felt that with landorus and was whipping the ball as far as a could and could only hit half the time
I just hit 8 fucking excellent throws in a row on a Sudowoodo, he knocked away the 9th, then I get a nice on the 10th throw and that's the one that catches him. This game is so stupid sometimes.
I’m pretty convinced they change up the throw mechanics a couple times a year. I will go from consistently slinging excellents to missing on easy targets. Eventually I get back to consistent excellents just for them to seemingly change it again a few months later.
I thought it was just me, have kinda adjusted now. Did manage to complete 3 excellents in a row while cycling home from my sister's after 7 beers last night though!
I play with two different phones, both Android. The older phone originally was hard to hit good throws with but now, suddenly, my Galaxy S24 will not curve the ball for anything! I will make sure I'm spinning it and once I throw it, it goes straight knuckle ball. It's so frustrating.
Glad Im not the only one. Finished the 50 perfect throw mission a week ago in couple of days, now Ive been stuck with a single perfect throw task for 2 days.

I've felt the complete opposite, that's so weird. I breezed through the Masterball research challenges. It felt like the circles gave me a smidge more room to miss.
It's not fully completed. I still have some eggs to hatch, but I'm on 4/4. I figured it would take me a month to do the Great/Excellent throws, but to my surprise it was way easier than normal for me. That's why I thought your comment was interesting. Maybe it's just the pokemon that are spawning are easier to catch? I'm not sure.
Same it somehow feels easier for me to hit excellent throws now. Maybe if you sucked before it got easier but if you were good it got harder because they made it easier for those like me that sucked at throwing 🤣🤣🤣

Was gonna make a post on this but figured it would get dismissed as "skill issue" or some other such nonsense. Glad it's not just me. Been happening for the last couple days since update 0.317.0 was pushed.
Seems like they moved everything slightly farther back, or the ball falls slightly faster - it is especially noticeable for Pokemon like Mareep, Eevee, and Landorus. I was easily hitting consistent excellents on them the previous few days, but after the update, the ball would end up slightly lower and off to the side of the circle. All this despite my muscle memory knowing for sure that it would have been an excellent throw before the update.
Very frustrating why they would even mess with the throw physics in the first place. Some of us hardcore players catch hundreds or thousands of Pokemon a day. We have the muscle memory down. Why do this? It makes me not even want to play at all.
Yes!!! I just hit level 50 and have to do 500 great curveball throws and 5 excellent throws in a row. I hit 50 three days ago and I’ve done 91 great throws, haven’t even came close to the excellent throws

I thought I had just lost my touch. I keep thinking to myself how much of a nightmare it’s gonna be to do the excellent throws for the masterball 😓 But as for Landorus? My husband got one with a golden raz and a nice throw and then his second was a shiny. My first ran away and the second I got on my last ball because he won’t leave the corners of my phone screen. But no there are mons I KNOW I can get an excellent throw on and I haven’t been able to hit them what so ever. It’s been infuriating to say the least.
Agreed. Balls seem to fall short or 'bounce' off 'mons chest. Any hit should trigger a catch attempt, and these bounces are even hitting within the circle. My screen has been cracked so I thought it was an input issue.
From what I’ve read, Samsung users got this issue about a month ago, but I’m seeing this issue now on iPhone 15.
Something changed about the ball throw physics, and I went from making mostly excellent throws during the Slumbering Sands event, to struggling to even get what should be free great throws during the last day of the event. I thought I was just tilted or having a bad day, but even since then I’ve been struggling.
It reminds me of when I initially upgraded from iPhone X to iPhone 15, since the screen aspect ratio is different, I had to take a few months to get used to the differences and recalibrate / adjust my muscle memory for throws.
I’ve noticed this and watched closely. Even screen recorded to observe. It is almost as though the ball takes a skip or ricochets low and left! No matter where I hit the Pokémon it ricochets! I used to never miss a great throw and now I’m lucky if I hit nice. Excellent throw have gone the way off the dodo 🦤
I’m confused. I thought nice, great, excellent was based on the size of the circle when you throw and hit inside the circle. So accuracy by default but if you hit dead center on a big circle you won’t get an excellent, it will still be a nice. Is that not how it works?
You have it correct. I've noticed recent inaccuracy in my own throws, so they're not landing where I expect. When people in this thread are describing throws as nice or great instead of excellent, I think that might be to express the precision of their shots.
Same issue, started 2-3 days ago. Sometimes can’t even seem to hit even nice or greats on some I used to consistently get excellent on. The one exception is trubbish for me, which got easier one-handed, so i figured they changed distance of the mons or throws…
I wonder if they recalibrated again? A while ago, I was suddenly getting way more great and excellent throws than I had any business getting. It's possible they went back to the more original settings

Uhh...I hate to be this guy, but I'm nailing excellent curves pretty regularly now. This change, whatever it was, has made it way easier for me.

I also have problems with throws. I cannot pin it down. I and my two sons play together, so we have 3 phone to work with. All of them do have issues. Sometimes the game seems to forget that it has spin on the ball and they just fly straight out of the picture, all though they should be curved.
I thought I had the yips. I was powering through the excellent throws until I got to 40. Then all of a sudden I’m having a hard time even landing a curveball on a Throh or Bouffalant. Glad to know it’s not just me.
Level 50 player here, I lost a Landorus yesterday. I'd say on a typical legendary raid I miss one excellent max, I circle lock and take my time. I know my throws were perfect but I couldn't hit the bastard.
I’m so glad you posted this. I’ve noticed it ever since the last community day … but suspected it since the bounsweet comm day. Definitely have to put more power into the throw however that doesn’t always work either
I can't believe no one's talking about the fact the balls slide and glitter ch left or right when hitting certain spots now too, like it will hit in the circle, and the slide out and then bounce off, outside the circle,
I've been getting more excellents, actually. I almost never got them. I'd go a month or more without one.
Suddenly I'm getting them a couple times a day. Yesterday I got three in a row. That had *never* happened.
Now....last year I was able to get excellents a few times a week. Summer came and suddenly I couldn't buy one! Now it seems to have swung back the other way.
I *have* noticed a lot of throws suddenly falling short. That was a problem I rarely had until about a few weeks ago. About the time that my excellent throws stepped up.
YES! I've had two just this morning that should have been excellent! And even the buddy save didn't register anything and I know damn well the circle was small enough to register as excellent
Yeah, I am noticing it.
I've always been pretty good with a curveball, but I keep getting alarmingly close to but just outside of the ring for like, nice throws. Plus, I don't know how related this is, but I'm getting sprites not showing up during Evo, purifying, Pokedex registry, etc.
To me, all of this seems to indicate that, in trying to push out some flashy new business venture, they've screwed up something that's worsened internal performance
This is really interesting. I live in a rural area and this hit me really hard. It’s been so bad I decided to uninstall the game again and just stick with the Switch/EM games.
I’ve never had an issue with throwing and the past several days throwing Pokeballs has been horrible, leading me to waste a LOT of resources. So I’m done.
They have been messing with the throws. It made me uninstall it for a month then i came back and things where better. Still throws are less predictable and more critical for great or excellent.

Okay not just me. I would be whipping up a curve and randomly my ball goes flying off. Nothing seems to have ooomph too. This has only been a week or more
But since the new Rediscover Kanto it seems every mon intentionally wants to fight you upon ball throw. You now seem to have to wait for their first fight
I've noticed this as well! I'm pretty good at hitting the greats and excellents but during community day I felt like I was on the same skill level as my 7 year old! It's also harder for me to quick catch for some reason. I'll have my finger on the berries and when I spin/release the ball, instead of going towards the Pokemon (with little to no whip in the throw now) it just snaps to my finger on the berries button. Frustrating indeed.
This has been my exact same experience. If a ‘Mon is a slight distance away I seem to not ever be able to make it to them. It falls short 4-5 times before I’m basically whipping my finger a crazy high speed to get the ball there. Rather frustrating.
It’s seemed like my throws are barely reaching their target. Idk. These mobile app creators are always trying to make a quick buck. They’re probably trying to get players to spend more money for coins during these events. I just take breaks until I get to another stop or the free daily incense.
Thank GOD for this thread. I thought it was just me. Finished two Landorus raids... I managed to hit him with the ball TWICE over those two raids. I thought I was just shit because the same has been happening with regular mons too. Kmt
I thought it was just me! I upgraded from an iPhone 13 to a 15 pro max 3 weeks ago and I thought maybe subconsciously it was just me struggling to get used to a bigger phone!
Ok, so I'm not crazy then lmao. Same thing has been happening to me, I can't even hit an excellent on a slowbro.... I've just been aiming fir the easiest possible nice throw and been using a lot of berries. The Gane is in such a shitty state rn idk why I play, can't catch pikemon properly, PvP is horribly laggy and barley works and my pokemon group can't go out rn bc wete all swamped st work(we work at the same place)

Yeah, ever since the latest update the calibration, throw physics, or whatever you would like to call it has definitely been off. I consider myself pretty solid with regularly getting excellent throws, and it was noticeable as soon as I booted up the game and went for a walk to play for a bit after updating. I had a task that was just "throw 5 great throws in a row," and it took way longer than it should have. I'm just glad it happened *after* the double throw XP event ended.
Something definitely changed, I flung a ball directly to the right of the screen (where the pokemon is) and it still went far left. I’ve caught and battled the same pokemon before and everything was great it’s just lately I’ve been missing even the easy throws. I thought it’s just me 😭
Older Iphone user here and avid pogo player — I’ve actually noticed its been significantly easier for me to make excellent throws today and for the past few weeks. Try turning off enhanced and native refresh rate.
OMG I just thought my phone had somehow gotten less responsive (Google phone/android system anyone?!?).
I've been SO frustrated and had considered installing it on my work iPhone just to see if it was Niatic's watered down hater-ade and (tinfoil hat time!!!) that they are getting ready to launch a Pogo specific iPhone or something....
I'm still getting great throws but I've definitely had the odd Pokémon that's eaten up like 20 attempts. Just going left when normally I'd be hitting it. Or bouncing off them. Definitely something has changed.
OK so it's not just me. I don't know what it is but for me it appears that at the moment of impact the ball shifts over and that new spot counts as the hit. It's cost me a lot of throws inside the circle.

I formed a party with 3 others for the Goomy event and we did the “get 50 great throws” challenge and we only got 28, I had 108 throws (altogether we had 239 throws) and we only had just over half the throws we needed. I thought it may have only been the Goomys too until I was catching other Pokémon afterwards.
I noticed this about the time I got a new phone, so I just chalked it up to new screen style, lol. Cause everything seems to be registering my finger weird on the Pixel (new one)
I also have a Pixel, and it was absolutely fine until this last AR Update patch came through. Everything they "upgraded" in order to revitalize the community and draw in players has made the game worse. Rest assured it's not the Pixel. It's whomever is abusing their development team with their flat brain ideas.
Yes! My throws end up hitting the side of the middle circle when I could’ve sworn it should’ve been a head on throw. And I find it harder to launch balls for targets that are far away
I'm finding my throws seem to hit the circle for great/excellent but just not count! And it's a lot easier for them to veer off to the side randomly as though I slipped on the mario kart banana and fell on my ass while throwing like WHOOPS TEAM ROCKET'S BLASTING OFF AGAIN

I have to wonder if this is done on purpose, so you’ll waste more balls. More balls wasted means you’ll go through your amount faster, which means you maybe more likely to buy balls.

Me too as soon as i got "use 150 berries" task the berries was nowhere to be seen in pokestops and gifts. Got 2 pinap from like 38 gifts.

I've noticed a decline in good throws at the start of any challenges that involve making a large number of specific throws. Sometimes it's more like the ball hits in the right spot but just doesn't register as nice/great, as if the circle had a force field in front of it. This time out, when the throws have to be curved-great, that mons with smaller circles register nice, not great, when over 50% of the inner circle is gone. 50/50 possibility,, indeed.
I've been playing since day one but took a huge break of the game and I recently started playing again and it's unbeliavable there's still quite a number of glitches that were back in 2016. They are mostly animation related stuff like severe clipping and background glitching weirdly, especially on gyms, but it's insane they still haven't fixed them since 2016.
Same here. I can’t believe you can’t read Pokémon names in gyms on an iPhone 14 Pro. It’s right behind the dynamic island. First step inapp development, make sure it works on all the recent phones. I haven’t played in four years. I wanna know what these new creatures are in gyms that I haven’t got yet. It’s quite annoying. Oh well. Hopefully they fix it.

I have been playing on and off since 2016 and never once have I landed a ball BEHIND a Pokémon. But the last few days it’s happened. I couldn’t believe it. Also getting more of those balls hit the mon and bounce back to me and then I land the Pokémon. Got a few excellent curveballs because of that. Although not enough to make up for the wonky throws

I feel this! It also feels like my ball doesn’t curve a lot of the time and just goes straight off screen even though that shit is spinning like a beyblade. It’s beyond frustrating. Sometimes it even feels like it stops spinning mid throw and just falls straight down which is weird as hell.

I think the game is mroe sensitive now and you have to be very intentional with your motion. I've noticed that if I'm a little loose the ball often careens of the side, but if I'm very deliberate with my motion it almost never does. I'm guessing that releasing the ball slightly early is leading to the ball going off the side and that the old game was more forgiving on when you released the ball.
YES, for about 2 weeks now I think. Yesterday, I hit a Lickatung in the sweet spot 3 times, but all 3 of the throws went, like, through the circle and bounced off it's chest? Certainly didn't register as a Great/Excellent, but still went into the ball. Catches have been too funky for statistics to make sense. If I get a great/excellent throw on my first hit, the pokemon often break out (which is stupid when its a freaking 200CP Eevee), and I miss the next throw and it's not even a Nice throw, it just stays in the ball, like 9 out of 10 times. It feels like I'm losing that XP bonus on purpose.
For me, the combination of red pokeball plus excellent throw seems to give a very high breakout and flee rate compared to any other throw type/ball combination. With red pokeballs, great throws give me the highest catch rate (I have platinum medal for every type, so I've caught a few pokemon in my time!). It's as if Niantic have implemented something to prevent people getting excellent throws every time with auto-catchers or similar add-ons which only use the red balls.
Yeeeep, the run rate seems to be up, too, for a bunch of dudes. Mayeb youre on to something about the autocatcher, but like I dont want to waste the better balls, I only get to really restock once a week. I hope they readjust whatever they changed.
Auto catchers cannot get excellent throws (or even great or nice). That's part of why their catch rate is so low.
yeah and also I’ve had a new issue that began around the same time where the game doesn’t register my attempt to throw the ball as an actual attempt. Like instead of throwing the ball after a wound up, it just puts it back to where it was like I wasn’t even trying to throw it. It’s not like where it just drops /throws the ball off screen either, it just resets it. And it deeply pisses me off also I’ve been keeping a spreadsheet to keep track of the excellent/great/nice curveball thing. Im autistic. It seems like so far the ‘type ‘ of throw has no effect on actually catching the pokémon. Then again, I still need about 100 more entries in each section to make it accurate

I think so. Feels like they are also trying to fix the new iPad version, as it’s trash. You couldn’t throw candies at all before the most recent update
On the iPad you have to tap below the fruit to get it to go to the Pokémon. The resolution is all funky and the taps don’t register where they should.

I assume it's a 'feature update', which also depletes our balls before big events. But I have noticed it has changed and has been more difficult to hit those excellent throws. Also Landorus seems to be harder to catch than I remember.

And they have sometimes reduced the amount of pokeballs from opening gifts from friends in my experience, typically before big events. Stockpile!
Yeah before comm days I find the stops give less ultra balls too. I live on top of 5 pokestops so basically never run out UNLESS we’re approaching a comm day, then suddenly my ball bag starts emptying. And I have to deal with blue balls, which I basically never use, I mostly have the black balls on hand all the times.
And before egg hatching days, my egg space seems to mysteriously fill up with 5km eggs which i never really have time before the event to hatch, so the hatch days are wasted on me
Or alternately, they've got a way to try to force you to buy their stupid expensive fast hatch incubators and also simultaneously avoid doing things that would give you more crap eggs before it (so no way to boost the ball count if you do that)

I have 9 2kms now and none will be in incubators until an egg event. Or I may hatch 2 for adventure sync but I typically keep 7 2kms unhatched.
A friend invited me to a Landy raid yesterday. I accepted but by the time I almost got in, it said something about not being open or available or summat. I'm really glad I didn't waste a remote raid pass on it after seeing the lillipup take 6 great balls later that day.
Probably more of an anti-cheating update. When level 50 came out, some “players” around here were using an auto-excellent throw hack (combined with a different location hack) to jump levels at a crazy rate.

Yep. I had the same thing happen yesterday. I had an excellent curveball challenge pop up. Took me 30-40 tries to hit it. Mind you, a month ago I could hit 10 back-to-back while farming raids like it was nothing. You’re right OP, the whip is gone.
Absolutely. It's like they tweaked it ever so slightly. I usually hit every excellent I try for but now they're all falling slightly short and if I add a little more power they overshoot. Very touchy. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks they're trying to make excellent throws more difficult. One of the other issues I've noticed lately is pokemon aggression (and attack/jump timing) seems to be semi-optimized Vs the typical excellent throw. And, anecdotally, we've seen that 'sliding' pokemon move to the left for CW throwers and to the right for CCW throwers. Again, anecdotal conspiracy stuff but it does feel that way...
Yes. Same. Previously great or excellent throws are now nice at the best. As a casual player, don't care as much. Used to be a hard-core player until 11 months ago. A lot of the latest "improvements" ruined the game for me personally and now I maybe open it once every 2 or 3 days, catch a pokemon, send a couple of gifts and that's it. As you said, it's becoming stressful or infuriating me. No need to have that over a game. Maybe take a break from the game?
I've noticed a super small delay in my throw, which results in me missing the circle or my bal not being flung hard enough and in the wrong aimed direction.
I've noticed this as well. Sometimes it even seems as thought there is a tiny bit of lag just before the ball hits, where it slows the ball but the circle is unaffected, causing you to miss the bonus.
Not only a delay, but it seems like the ball is dodging/sliding a bit after hitting a mon - it hits, then it goes few more „millimeters” in the direction of throw.
I could throw balls lazily with one hand just using my thumb and get great curveballs. Now I can’t land any thumb throws. I have to hold phone with both hands and use index finger and really try now to land those.

I just hit 8 fucking excellent throws in a row on a Sudowoodo, he knocked away the 9th, then I get a nice on the 10th throw and that's the one that catches him. This game is so stupid sometimes.

I’m pretty convinced they change up the throw mechanics a couple times a year. I will go from consistently slinging excellents to missing on easy targets. Eventually I get back to consistent excellents just for them to seemingly change it again a few months later.
I thought it was just me, have kinda adjusted now. Did manage to complete 3 excellents in a row while cycling home from my sister's after 7 beers last night though!

I play with two different phones, both Android. The older phone originally was hard to hit good throws with but now, suddenly, my Galaxy S24 will not curve the ball for anything! I will make sure I'm spinning it and once I throw it, it goes straight knuckle ball. It's so frustrating.

I've felt the complete opposite, that's so weird. I breezed through the Masterball research challenges. It felt like the circles gave me a smidge more room to miss.

It's not fully completed. I still have some eggs to hatch, but I'm on 4/4. I figured it would take me a month to do the Great/Excellent throws, but to my surprise it was way easier than normal for me. That's why I thought your comment was interesting. Maybe it's just the pokemon that are spawning are easier to catch? I'm not sure.
Same it somehow feels easier for me to hit excellent throws now. Maybe if you sucked before it got easier but if you were good it got harder because they made it easier for those like me that sucked at throwing 🤣🤣🤣

It took me 6 great balls to find the sweet spot for a lillipup yesterday. So wrong.
Was gonna make a post on this but figured it would get dismissed as "skill issue" or some other such nonsense. Glad it's not just me. Been happening for the last couple days since update 0.317.0 was pushed. Seems like they moved everything slightly farther back, or the ball falls slightly faster - it is especially noticeable for Pokemon like Mareep, Eevee, and Landorus. I was easily hitting consistent excellents on them the previous few days, but after the update, the ball would end up slightly lower and off to the side of the circle. All this despite my muscle memory knowing for sure that it would have been an excellent throw before the update. Very frustrating why they would even mess with the throw physics in the first place. Some of us hardcore players catch hundreds or thousands of Pokemon a day. We have the muscle memory down. Why do this? It makes me not even want to play at all.

Last day for the slumbering sands go snapshot bonus, I think. That's how I got my 5 in a row - those 5 big, slow guys (slowpoke & mareep for me).

I generally hit excellent throws with ease. When I'm trying, I can hit like 30% on average, when you factor in everything, even hard to hit stuff. Pokemon like mareep, I hit 80% or so. Now, I'm struggling to hit matter. Maybe it's just the temperature messing my phone up, idk. Just feels different.
I thought I had just lost my touch. I keep thinking to myself how much of a nightmare it’s gonna be to do the excellent throws for the masterball 😓 But as for Landorus? My husband got one with a golden raz and a nice throw and then his second was a shiny. My first ran away and the second I got on my last ball because he won’t leave the corners of my phone screen. But no there are mons I KNOW I can get an excellent throw on and I haven’t been able to hit them what so ever. It’s been infuriating to say the least.
Agreed. Balls seem to fall short or 'bounce' off 'mons chest. Any hit should trigger a catch attempt, and these bounces are even hitting within the circle. My screen has been cracked so I thought it was an input issue.
From what I’ve read, Samsung users got this issue about a month ago, but I’m seeing this issue now on iPhone 15. Something changed about the ball throw physics, and I went from making mostly excellent throws during the Slumbering Sands event, to struggling to even get what should be free great throws during the last day of the event. I thought I was just tilted or having a bad day, but even since then I’ve been struggling. It reminds me of when I initially upgraded from iPhone X to iPhone 15, since the screen aspect ratio is different, I had to take a few months to get used to the differences and recalibrate / adjust my muscle memory for throws.

I’ve noticed this and watched closely. Even screen recorded to observe. It is almost as though the ball takes a skip or ricochets low and left! No matter where I hit the Pokémon it ricochets! I used to never miss a great throw and now I’m lucky if I hit nice. Excellent throw have gone the way off the dodo 🦤

I thought it was my new phone. I went from a 16:9 to a 20:9 phone and figured I lost horizontal flick on the ball so I was always left or short.
I’m confused. I thought nice, great, excellent was based on the size of the circle when you throw and hit inside the circle. So accuracy by default but if you hit dead center on a big circle you won’t get an excellent, it will still be a nice. Is that not how it works?
You have it correct. I've noticed recent inaccuracy in my own throws, so they're not landing where I expect. When people in this thread are describing throws as nice or great instead of excellent, I think that might be to express the precision of their shots.

My network has been whack for a month now. I'll flip from 5g to 4g mid throw and back multiple times an hour.
Are yall on Android? On iPhone I had no trouble catching 3 Landos last night, and I haven’t noticed anything.
I also have problems with throws. I cannot pin it down. I and my two sons play together, so we have 3 phone to work with. All of them do have issues. Sometimes the game seems to forget that it has spin on the ball and they just fly straight out of the picture, all though they should be curved.

I thought I had the yips. I was powering through the excellent throws until I got to 40. Then all of a sudden I’m having a hard time even landing a curveball on a Throh or Bouffalant. Glad to know it’s not just me.
Level 50 player here, I lost a Landorus yesterday. I'd say on a typical legendary raid I miss one excellent max, I circle lock and take my time. I know my throws were perfect but I couldn't hit the bastard.

I've been getting more excellents, actually. I almost never got them. I'd go a month or more without one. Suddenly I'm getting them a couple times a day. Yesterday I got three in a row. That had *never* happened. Now....last year I was able to get excellents a few times a week. Summer came and suddenly I couldn't buy one! Now it seems to have swung back the other way. I *have* noticed a lot of throws suddenly falling short. That was a problem I rarely had until about a few weeks ago. About the time that my excellent throws stepped up.

Yeah, I am noticing it. I've always been pretty good with a curveball, but I keep getting alarmingly close to but just outside of the ring for like, nice throws. Plus, I don't know how related this is, but I'm getting sprites not showing up during Evo, purifying, Pokedex registry, etc. To me, all of this seems to indicate that, in trying to push out some flashy new business venture, they've screwed up something that's worsened internal performance

This is really interesting. I live in a rural area and this hit me really hard. It’s been so bad I decided to uninstall the game again and just stick with the Switch/EM games. I’ve never had an issue with throwing and the past several days throwing Pokeballs has been horrible, leading me to waste a LOT of resources. So I’m done.

Okay not just me. I would be whipping up a curve and randomly my ball goes flying off. Nothing seems to have ooomph too. This has only been a week or more But since the new Rediscover Kanto it seems every mon intentionally wants to fight you upon ball throw. You now seem to have to wait for their first fight

I've noticed this as well! I'm pretty good at hitting the greats and excellents but during community day I felt like I was on the same skill level as my 7 year old! It's also harder for me to quick catch for some reason. I'll have my finger on the berries and when I spin/release the ball, instead of going towards the Pokemon (with little to no whip in the throw now) it just snaps to my finger on the berries button. Frustrating indeed.

This has been my exact same experience. If a ‘Mon is a slight distance away I seem to not ever be able to make it to them. It falls short 4-5 times before I’m basically whipping my finger a crazy high speed to get the ball there. Rather frustrating.
It’s seemed like my throws are barely reaching their target. Idk. These mobile app creators are always trying to make a quick buck. They’re probably trying to get players to spend more money for coins during these events. I just take breaks until I get to another stop or the free daily incense.
Thank GOD for this thread. I thought it was just me. Finished two Landorus raids... I managed to hit him with the ball TWICE over those two raids. I thought I was just shit because the same has been happening with regular mons too. Kmt
I thought it was just me! I upgraded from an iPhone 13 to a 15 pro max 3 weeks ago and I thought maybe subconsciously it was just me struggling to get used to a bigger phone!
Ok, so I'm not crazy then lmao. Same thing has been happening to me, I can't even hit an excellent on a slowbro.... I've just been aiming fir the easiest possible nice throw and been using a lot of berries. The Gane is in such a shitty state rn idk why I play, can't catch pikemon properly, PvP is horribly laggy and barley works and my pokemon group can't go out rn bc wete all swamped st work(we work at the same place)
Thank god I wasn’t the only one! For me like the last like 3 days have been the worst throws of my life! Took me a good 20 encounters just to get 5 great throws

Yeah, ever since the latest update the calibration, throw physics, or whatever you would like to call it has definitely been off. I consider myself pretty solid with regularly getting excellent throws, and it was noticeable as soon as I booted up the game and went for a walk to play for a bit after updating. I had a task that was just "throw 5 great throws in a row," and it took way longer than it should have. I'm just glad it happened *after* the double throw XP event ended.
Something definitely changed, I flung a ball directly to the right of the screen (where the pokemon is) and it still went far left. I’ve caught and battled the same pokemon before and everything was great it’s just lately I’ve been missing even the easy throws. I thought it’s just me 😭
Older Iphone user here and avid pogo player — I’ve actually noticed its been significantly easier for me to make excellent throws today and for the past few weeks. Try turning off enhanced and native refresh rate.
Oh my god!!! I thought it’s me!!!! I’m not that bad but starting three days ago it all became so difficult to land an excellent throw. WTF Niantic!
100% Just cleared my whole research stack and only had like 5 great throws. Normally, that's the standard with sometimes an excellent here and there
I thought I was going crazy. Glad to hear this is a problem for everyone but it is super annoying and has made me play less.
Reset your refresh rate settings to fix! settings -> advanced settings -> turn OFF enhanced graphics and turn OFF native refresh rate
OMG I just thought my phone had somehow gotten less responsive (Google phone/android system anyone?!?). I've been SO frustrated and had considered installing it on my work iPhone just to see if it was Niatic's watered down hater-ade and (tinfoil hat time!!!) that they are getting ready to launch a Pogo specific iPhone or something....
I'm still getting great throws but I've definitely had the odd Pokémon that's eaten up like 20 attempts. Just going left when normally I'd be hitting it. Or bouncing off them. Definitely something has changed.
Ok so it’s not just me either lol. It started for me a couple of days ago as well, I thought it was because I was rusty from not playing as much

OK so it's not just me. I don't know what it is but for me it appears that at the moment of impact the ball shifts over and that new spot counts as the hit. It's cost me a lot of throws inside the circle.
Thank god someone else (a lot of us) are also finding. I’ve wasted two remote raids & 100’s of balls!
