Red, individually Typhlosion is my favorite of these, but I don't have strong feelings for the other Johto starters, all of the Sinnoh starters are pretty great though

Meanwhile in Sinnoh you can play with any of the three starters and be allowed to play the game and have fun at the same time.
Sinnoh Starters are just absolut Units. Empoleon being my first Pick up may weight heavy in this though. for soul silver picked and loved Cyndaquil tho

Honestly, Johto starters are kinda mid. No cool double type on any of them, and pretty basic designs (I like chikorita and totodyle, but I wouldnt say they are top tier designs). We have a bipedal badger, a big bipedal water croc and a flower dino who is pretty much useless in game.
Sinnoh has some pretty great starters. They all have a cool dual type, and we have: Big world turtle, based on a cool myth about the earth being a turtle, cute penguin who becomes poseidon AND Napoleon Bonaparte, great mixed attacking monkey, based on sun wukong (the guy wjo inspired GOKU) from journey to the west. Those are some GOOD starters
Chikorita is my undisputed favorite of the Gen 2 starters, meanwhile I have difficulty choosing from the Gen 4 starters so go ahead and hand me that red pill
Even though Soul Silver is the game that I credit as the game that got me truly into the Pokemon series (I tried others prior but was too young to understand) the johto starters are the weakest selection of all generations. If we could get Hisuian Typhlosion, that would be my personal favorite from all these, but Johtonian Typhlosion is B tier at best and the remaining two are worse than that. Especially meganium. But for Sinnoh, you could give me any of the three and I am content. Sometimes I prefer one over the other but for the most part they are the most balanced trio for me since I appreciate them all equally

When I played HeartGold when it came out, I dunno how I did it, I dunno what the IV's, EV's, Etc. were... But I somehow made my Feraligator a damn near immortal monster that managed to take down 4 of Red's Pokemon by himself before he collapsed.

Chikorita for sure, though I have to admit I chose Totodile as my starter as a kid back when Gold came out! I love Johto and the starters. Colosseum too, I *think* I've beaten the game using all three starters? I know I beat it with Feraligatr and played it with Meganium, possibly Typhlosion too... Chikorita is so adorable and I love it. It annoys me seeing all the exaggerated hate PokƩmon fans give Chikorita/Bayleef/Meganium.
Respect+ Iām actually going to get heartgold for the first time and finally have my pear Dino on my journey with me. Iām so excited!
