And, once or twice there are oblique references to how modern politicians in western countries still use these very tactics. They’ve done an incredible job convincing their supporters that Democrats are evil socialists when in fact, measured on any international political spectrum our Democrats would be right-wingers in almost any other country.
I think it's more complicated than that, because the Democratic Party is a pretty wide coalition. In a parliamentary system it would probably be two or even three parties. Also, the last decade has seen a considerable amount of activism and wins for socially liberal causes that make the Democrats quite *left*-wing in some ways.
To give one example, the German CDU is a center-right party who were in power when gay marriage was legalized in 2017, and the majority of the party voted against it. By contrast, every Democrat in the House and Senate except one voted to codify marriage equality two years ago.
My personal theory is every person left defending him no matter what have serious kompromat and Felon Trump has the Killswitch to it all. No other explanation makes sense outside of insane/evil or both. Russia is good at corrupting greedy soulless humans so it wouldn't surprise me at all.
