>What are the specifics of Project 2025, Agenda 47, and the larger right-wing plot to end American democracy? These plans include removing any checks and balances on Dictator Trump and his regime by purging any members of the bureaucracy who are deemed to be disloyal, i.e. they place the Constitution and the rule of law above personal fealty to Trump and the MAGA movement. The Department of Justice will also be politicized and used to attack the enemies of the Trump regime. [They're already compiling lists of suspected federal workers who aren't loyal to Trump.](https://www.salon.com/2024/06/24/maga-operative-compiling-list-of-anti-trump-workers-setting-stage-for-project-2025-purge/) >The Republican Party will basically be made into the country’s official national party. Voting for the Democrats or other political parties that are deemed to be a threat to the MAGA movement will be made prohibitively difficult through voter intimidation, nullification and purges. White Christianity will be made into America’s official state religion. The civil rights of Black and brown people, the LGBTQ community, and women will be severely curtailed. Women will have their reproductive rights and freedoms taken away. There will be mass deportations and concentration camps targeting non-white migrants and refugees. Homeless people and other “undesirables” will also be imprisoned in these camps. As promised, Trump and his forces will target the human “vermin” who are polluting the “blood” of the nation, including but not be limited to non-whites, Muslims, Jews, and disabled people. >The United States military will be ordered to occupy Democrat-led cities and other “blue” parts of the country to combat "crime." There will be a national “patriotic” education program where dissent and intellectual freedom and otherwise challenging “conservative”/neo-fascist orthodoxy and dogma will not be allowed. High-quality public education will be ended and replaced with indoctrination programs to create compliant subjects who lack the intellectual training to be critical thinkers and responsible citizens in a real democracy. Universities and colleges will be targeted with censorship, lawsuits and other efforts to defund and close them down – as well as to threaten and intimidate faculty and administrators – if they do not sufficiently support the Trump regime and the larger right-wing reactionary and revolutionary project. [Trump has publicly said he will use the Insurrection Act to send the military into Democratic cities.](https://apnews.com/article/trump-military-insurrection-act-2024-election-03858b6291e4721991b5a18c2dfb3c36) >Freedom of the press and freedom of speech will be severely limited. President Biden and other leading Democrats, Republicans deemed to be disloyal, and any other individuals and groups who are targeted as the enemy will face the possibility of being put in prison for “treason” and then being executed. Donald Trump and his propagandists and other agents and allies have repeatedly made such explicit threats and promises of “revenge” and “retribution”. As part of that project, Trump will pardon the January 6 terrorists (a group he describes as “soldiers” and “heroes”) and other violent right-wing extremists who will then become his personal brownshirts. [Donald Trump tweeted out that he wants military tribunals to try his political enemies for treason—against him.](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/01/us/politics/trump-liz-cheney-treason-jail.html) >Donald Trump will personally exercise control over the United States economy by making himself the de facto head of the Federal Reserve board. Trump, like other autocrats and authoritarians, will use federal tax policy and other laws to reward his business allies. In turn, these business interests will give Trump and his family and other designated recipients vast sums of money. Trump’s first term in office was but a preview of the vast corruption that will take place when/if he takes power in 2025. To that point, at a fundraising event, the former president recently told fossil fuel industry executives to give him one billion dollars. In return, they will be permitted to pollute and ruin the world. >There are prominent voices among the news media and political class (and general public) who will push back that this is all “hysterical”, “doomsaying”, and that “the institutions” and “the rule of law” will stop aspiring dictator Donald Trump and Project 2025 and his Agenda 47 and the other plans to end the country’s democracy. Plus, Trump could not implement his desire to become a dictator during his first regime because he is “stupid” and “disorganized” and his Jan. 6 coup failed, and he is now a convicted felon which all means that the “guardrails held”. And of course, there is this talking point: the American people are basically good! Donald Trump is a bad man! The American people will get it right because they always do in the end! >Such responses and denials are so much hopium happy pill balderdash and immature thinking that are at odds with reality as it actually exists. >The following new interview in Rolling Stone with Trump MAGA operatives should sober up such voices – it will not. >>“OF COURSE WE aren’t fu**ing bluffing.” That’s the message one close Trump adviser and former administration official — who requested anonymity to speak candidly — wants to get across to the press and public, when asked about Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign vows of “retribution,” unprecedented force, and militaristic action. >>Indeed, this sentiment is shared widely among the upper echelon of Trumpland and the MAGAfied Republican Party, with various officials and conservatives with a direct line to the former president insisting that so-called “moderates” or alleged “establishment” types will be tamed or purged, if Trump retakes power next year. >>Rolling Stone spoke with a dozen sources who are playing roles in Trump’s “government-in-waiting” or are in regular contact with the ex-president, including GOP lawmakers, Trump advisers, MAGA policy wonks, conservative attorneys, and former and current Trump aides. They universally stress that the former (and perhaps future) U.S. president and top allies are serious about following through on his extreme campaign pledges. These promises run the gamut from siccing active duty military units on not just American cities but also Mexican territory, all the way to prosecuting and potentially imprisoning Trump foes. >Rolling Stone continues, "Yes, we do really want to burn it all down,” says another Republican close to Trump, referring to the so-called GOP “establishment” remnants who may wish to shackle Trump’s hard-right impulses. When asked about potential court challenges in a Trump second term, this source simply replies: 'Who cares?”' >Are you afraid? You should be.

Puddle_Palooza

Thank you so much for writing this out. I have no doubt that the Republicans believe that they are going to succeed at this. I doubt the payout is going to be as rewarding as they think it will be. They’re welcoming Russia and China to exploit and destroy our destabilized America in her death throes.

PunkJackal

Yeah but they will make a few extra thousand bucks so it's worth it

Pappy_OPoyle

They are such spite filled hate addicts they will tear it all down just to make sure everyone suffers if they aren't the winners. Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, they are all popping champagne corks after that supremely corrupt courts handed them a win in the name of treasonous trump. Stop maga from destroying us (and themselves) at all costs in Nov.

PeasThatTasteGross

>They’re welcoming Russia and China to exploit and destroy our destabilized America in her death throes. I suspect China and Russia are hoping Trump is going to go through with stuff like executions of political rivals, so they have concrete examples of human rights violations to get embargoes and sanctions going against the US. It won't be just them either, expect quite a few countries to not want to do business with the US anymore if Trump goes that gung-ho.

AdministrativeMeat3

Ultimately, this is the point. We know that the MAGA movement is primarily foreign agents, compromised actors, and useful idiots. China and Russia would really like to secure global power and influence without resorting to global conflict because that's too destabilizing, and they lose the ability to control the outcome. However; if through Trump and MAGA they can turn the US on itself, then they can just sit back and watch us die with a whimper. The global market has a much better chance of surviving in this scenario and the ultra wealthy don't really care if the US remains a global power as long as they can still tap into our consumer base and make money. Our overall spending power as a society will dramatically decrease in this scenario, but that will be counterbalanced by the Chinese, Russian, and their allied markets that grow in relative market strength over time. The American citizenry is fucked, I don't like fear mongering and I really hope that when Trump wins we just get another 4 years of political theater while the economic machinery keeps pumping out all time highs, but I really don't have my hopes up right now.

PeasThatTasteGross

One possible scenario I could see happening is if Trump decides to go full Führer and the market reacts accordingly, is that American capitalists and corporations will do anything to protect their money and the ability to make it. They'll do whatever they can to curtail or remove Trump, and I believe they can hold more sway than a US president sometimes.

heckin_miraculous

> I doubt the payout is going to be as rewarding as they think it will be. I think you're right: Self-serving power games are funny like that. Even when you win, you lose.

plasmaSunflower

Hitler conquered basically all of Europe, yet still inevitably lost in the end.

el3vader

Nah. I don’t think these people really care about America being number 1 on the world stage. They care about their own wealth and role in the new oligarchy and this is demonstrated by their isolationist policy. As long as they get their money from say Russia or China and those countries leave America the fuck alone then those are the only boxes that need be checked. Pay us and we’ll leave you alone as you do whatever you want to do.

Jbugx

So what is the plan? If they make schools just stupid factories who is going to be left to take care of all the high tech things in the country? Like who will run NASA or power plants? Will it just be the rich kids that go to collage? They don't want to actually work they just want their trust fund and get cushy C suite jobs.

caligaris_cabinet

They Don’t Care

Shaken-babytini

I believe that the plan is for conservative leadership to continue pushing their constituents to be fearful of public schools. They'll take their kids out and home school them, or defund the public system to the point where they might as well. Then the upper class conservatives in power can send their kids to private school. Within 15 years you'd have a completely tiered system that can't ever be overcome. Poor kids will go to the war machine and/or do low skill labor, while the wealthy will have 0 competition for white collar well paying jobs. VERY few parents can realistically educate their kids enough to be a competitive college graduate. After a generation or two the difference will be staggering. If you live in an extremely homogenous area it's practically impossible to escape your parents belief systems. Upward mobility is already stacked against people, but it will be virtually impossible in short order.

kni9ht

Vote people. At this point, quit crying about Biden’s age and vote. We are likely stuck with these two candidates and our only solution is to make sure you vote. This won’t stop with Trump either, if we win, they simply try again in 2028. We have a rogue scotus wiping their ass with the constitution and declaring presidents as kings. Even if you don’t like Biden, Alito and Thomas are both old and likely to be replaced in the next 4 years. Consider that if you don’t want us truly devolving into a fascist state. There will be no more justice for criminals like Trump if we’re going to moan about our candidate choices, we’re fucking stuck with them unfortunately. VOTE.

BeardedSquidward

I say this wherever I go, the Heritage Foundation is behind all this. It started before Trump was in the light, and it will continue on after he has passed out of the light. We have to be against the Republicans nail, tooth, and claw from here on out to avoid Project 2025 and a fascist take over.

argomux

> It started before Trump was in the light, and it will continue on after he has passed Indeed. Republicans have been attempting to engineer a one party system, by destroying checks and balances on their power, for decades.

sheesh9727

How come the Black panther party the fbi was foaming at the mouth for “national security” reasons but the Herotage Foundation can create a blueprint to overthrow American democracy and nothing happens? I’m legit curious. Can they not act in this case? Do they not deem it relevant enough?

BeardedSquidward

The answer it two fold and simple when you think about it: Racism and money. Black panthers were not wealthy, they were working class people so they cannot afford good lawyers. They were also black and the police has been from its inception to keep two people in line; the black man and the worker. The Heritage Foundation was started by rich, white men who are now old, rich, white men.

sheesh9727

lol I don’t even know why I asked. Of course, thanks squidward

SgtRockyWalrus

Agreed. It’s been in the works for decades. They are only all-in on Trump bc the demographics were shifting and it’s viewed as their last best chance. If you aren’t going to legitimately win future elections, future elections must not be legit.

I think that younger people really can't imagine how bad it can get. They didn't even live through the 90s in a way they can remember and they don't remember the sort of casual daily homophobia etc that millennials and older can. Though even plenty of millennials don't vote! But with the number of millennials and Gen Z that identify as not straight, it's astonishing how many don't vote like their lives depend on it.

Catshit-Dogfart

I work with a guy who served overseas, used the GI bill for college, and has a minor in Arabic history (majored in computer science). See, he grew to love the people of Iran and Pakistan and wanted to learn about their culture and language. Well he puts it this way - when authoritarian regimes take over, the old regime doesn't just fold their arms and express their frustration. No, that's how things work here, all we know is election night where one team celebrates and the other doesn't. Okay, **the old regime doesn't survive**. Never, that's just how it works, if you show absolute servitude to the new regime you might survive as a hated pariah. From the days of chieftans, kings, tsars, emperors, this is with few exceptions how it works. For a new leadership to begin, the old one must die. Democracy is the exception to this.

deadsoulinside

The problem is is beyond his age. Thanks to fucking Israel they have put the US in a tight bind and soured their approval over Biden for supplying weapons to Israel. Israel and AIPAC playing both sides of our election in order to try to elect Trump. They won't even attempt to understand that America under Trump is guaranteed destruction of Gaza in order to support Israel. People are attempting to push either 3rd party Candidates with the stupid "Just write them in" or not voting at all. They are not bothering to understand how bad this is and see it all as democrats trying to scare people into voting for Joe. It really does not help when you have the official POTUS account tweeting out to reelect Biden to save Roe, because the idiots are screaming "Why can't he save it now? You know while he is currently president." People need fucking crayons to understand how laws become a law and it's not possible now when it we already proven we cannot save IVF or Contraception as they get stopped in the senate.

Pappy_OPoyle

Vote now. Then we can hand them their crayons in a couple of years when SCOTUS has been neutered. Tell them this - Dems don't have a majority. It is the simplest way to explain it to the perpetually stupid. Tell them - VOTE straight Democrat down the ballot in Nov and it will start to be fixed. It is much easier to destroy something than it is to rebuild it, so we need majorities and we need them for 4 years at least now while you can.

deadsoulinside

I hear you loud and clear. I know that's the reason why, though I wonder just how many people crying out are even legally allowed to vote or are US citizens, versus outsiders trying to drum up false narratives to push people away from voting. I don't see my votes as one person. I always see my vote as whom that person will put into roles to help the nation. Trump already proved to many to put people in roles only to dismantle them or play favors. Like him putting Devos in charge of education that allowed a company that owned a mega church to buy up a ton of for profit schools, only to steal the tax money that came in from student loans and run, leaving many students empty handed and owing thousands for a degree they never got and in some cases graduating with an unaccredited degree, while Dream Center took their federal loans fradulently.

Ridry

>I don't see my votes as one person. Ya, Biden was not my guy (not who I voted for in the primary), but my **GOD** the difference between Biden and Trump's cabinet and SCOTUS picks are so vast that I can't imagine anyone sane picking Trump's because Biden is getting old.

deadsoulinside

One of the articles I keep sharing to even highlight how bad Trump's admin was, is one of the reasons Biden had to forgive some student loans last month. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/23/us/politics/dream-center.html Long story short. DeVos allowed a company who only ran a megachurch to acquire a large portfolio of for profit education schools. They then took in federal tax payer backed loans and did not even issue stipends for overpayment. They lost accreditation of one of their school systems and illegally took in federal loans still. (Title IV funding by LAW has to go to a school that is accredited) To this day, no one really knows where that money went. I am still not sure why this did not blow up that big on Reddit or anywhere else during 2019 when this company fell apart and the scam was exposed.

PSIwind

Which is why I still believe given the date it happened and Iran's ties, Russia planned this for Hamas

Great-Hotel-7820

The fact we have to vote to prevent a criminal seditionist from seizing ultimate power basically means we are already fucked. If we stave off Trump it will just be the same shit again in 2028, except more organized and with a better candidate.

AndrewJamesDrake

That’s the funny part… the Candidate is what they’re here for. De Santis and Abbot have tried to be Trump… and fell flat on their faces the moment they stuck their heads out of their States. Trump is… appealing to the voter base necessary to carry this out.

Chalkarts

Voting has ceased to be a viable weapon against this coup.

ButtEatingContest

> vote. We all must vote as our lives depend on it. But that will not be enough. We voted against fascism last time, all it did was temporarily kick the can down the road while rights were already being stripped away - in no small part due to weak Democrats. Biden just gave a speech last night basically indicated if he's re-elected he will continue to do nothing about the rising fascism. And if we put Biden with office and he continues to do nothing, the corrupt supreme court alone may be enough to ensure that Democrats can't take the presidency in 2028, due to eroding state laws and expanding voter suppression. And it is likely when the court is back in session they will make it harder for this election cycle, and will be laying the groundwork to help steal the election which is *definitely* the plan in motion. Though weirdly they may actually win due to Biden's ego. Of course Biden could act to stop this now, he has the power to. He has the moral obligation to act, because he is in the position to do so. But perhaps he is a little short on morality these days. Voting may help this time, but not enough to dig us out of this hole.

PeasThatTasteGross

>We all must vote as our lives depend on it. But that will not be enough. We voted against fascism last time, all it did was temporarily kick the can down the road while rights were already being stripped away - in no small part due to weak Democrats. [I made another post in another sub about just this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Defeat_Project_2025/s/MWDvSPiPqo), without a long term plan, you are just delaying the inevitable.

chrono4111

If even 1/8th of this was stated by literally ANYONE other than trump we'd all call them batshit crazy but since it's trump we just accept it. This is so distopian.

stevez_86

The manufactured collapse of the Federal Government of the United States mirroring the collapse of the Soviet Union into the Russian Oligarchy. Roberts is on track to be the ultimate Reaganite and regain the lost ground to the Russian Oligarchs who benefitted from the collapse. Roberts is declaring the US a Confederacy and with bribery being legal that means they can be part of the new Oligarch Class when the Supreme Court starts handling strictly property law and interstate commerce disputes. They are the bottleneck that corporations must pass through in a new Confederacy to basically buy up regions of the US and wealthy is the lubricant they must provide to pass that bottleneck.

basenocryingball

Sadly, the only way Biden could fight this is to lean into a lot of what Project 2025 plans to do. And we are also 2 heartbeats away from Mike Johnson with this power.

anachronissmo

Why do Liberals just accept that the Republicans will actually achieve all of this without mounting a massive resistance in the streets? Do y'all intend to just roll over and take it?

MyMorningSun

A fair majority of the country straight up isn't paying attention and they're completely oblivious. Another large chunk seems to think "it could never happen here" and ignore all the red flags and alarm bells going off around them. All of them think the rest of us are just being hysterical over nothing.

stevez_86

Why don't conservatives see that their party is changing this country in irreparable ways? Their side just ruled their last president is immune to any repercussions for arbitrarily defined official acts, up to and including assassination of political rivals. That was their sides active play in this. Where are the calls for the Republicans to pick another candidate for the good of the country since it is so evident that the Supreme Court is cooperating with Trump to seize ultimate power and turn us into something completely different than any of us has ever had to experience? Why does half the country get such a free pass? Fuck that.

kent_eh

> Why don't conservatives see that their party is changing this country in irreparable ways? Because they are under the delusion that they will be the ones in charge of everything and will be able to impose their will on people they see as below them. Hateto break it to you, Cletus, but it ain't gonna work that way. You'll be under the same boot as the people you try to insult by calling them "woke".

stevez_86

I'm looking at the collapse of the Soviet Union and how the oligarchs seized power. The internal culture was in Russia kept the public on the side of the oligarchs as they were protecting the "culture" of the nation. They will do the same here. Have a perpetual culture war only the opposition in the US is much larger and will be sold as that much more of a threat.

Superman246o1

While I wouldn't say this is true for every conservative, a plurality of conservatives look at modern America with disgust. There are a myriad of things that they loathe about 21st century America: women getting abortions (in Blue States, at least); multiracial children; Gay marriage; Transmen and Transwomen no longer afraid to hide their true identities from the public. Furthermore, these conservatives know they're on the losing side of demographics and democracy. On a long enough timeline, the very people they hate will become \*deep, God-fearing gulp\* *normalized*. And even worse than that, America will someday become a \*deeper, Christian gulp\* *minority majority country*. There's only one way to stop that from happening, but it's impossible to do it in a democratic republic.

Serialfornicator

Yep! It’s their fear of this happening. They’ll do whatever they can to stop progress

whereismymind86

Sure sounds like it… Also like…red America needs blue America a lot more than we need them. In a worst case scenario we secede and stomp the confederate states into a fine paste….AGAIN

deadsoulinside

There won't be a North versus South and that's what people are not seeing.

Lebowquade

Even just in California, it will be "the western seaboard versus the rest of the state" type situation.  In red states it will be "rural areas attacks the cities."  Nationwide farmers will stap growing, truckers will stop trucking. Chaos.

deadsoulinside

> In red states it will be "rural areas attacks the cities."  The thing is, beyond the cities in blue states, it's mostly red. I live in a rural county in a blue state hours away from cities. The fact that the county is red on an election map, only means the majority voted republican, there are still many democrats in those counties and are outnumbered. They would not even need to leave the county to round up democrats. I live within earshot of a gun range here. I'm used to hearing a lot of gunshots due to it. However there was 2 days that I was concerned what big things happened on the news because the gun fire was a lot more frequent than normal. J6 2021 was one of the days and the date trump got arraigned in Florida. It was a very concerning amount of gunfire and I have lived near this gun range for 5 years now. >Nationwide farmers will stap growing, truckers will stop trucking. Chaos. This is the part they all fail to see when wanting to have a civil war is that a nationwide shut down would happen. It's not as simple as it was in the 1860's. Would be major wide shut downs and disruption of many things, electric grids could be shut down, telecommunications could be interrupted. Things people did not see was how bad economically the south was doing in the civil war. They had a 9,000% inflation, while the north had 80%. Confederates were making $10,000, $100,000 bills even.

verugan

Being liberal in a rural county is just frightening. We have guns but we'd be outnumbered for sure. I hear gunfire from surrounding property all the time. Hell, we shoot guns into our back field berm just for fun. Just the thought of my neighbors/community turning on us based on ideology is fucking scary.

Big_Truck

Going to be really hard when (1) GOP has the largest military in the world at its disposal and (2) the divide between red and blue isn’t geographically tidy. There are a few blue states in the midst of red enclaves that would be surrounded on all sides by red. I don’t think blue states could create a military to take down the US military establishment.

Sweary_Biochemist

But the US military (and indeed the US) cannot run without blue state (and blue city) engagement. If all the smart folks just fucking *stop doing stuff,* then you're not left with much.

Ok_Environment9659

Yeah, I believe they'll try, and probably deteriorate a lot the US. But the thing is, US big money is not fond of not having smart people. Closing universities? Are they undermining the US economy? Are they allowing China to progress faster technologically and dominate Space, Air, Ground and Sea? It's obviously dumb, but being that dumb in name of Identity and societal cohesion sounds even dumber.

Vel0clty

Definitely a warning to heed and not something I’m looking forward to. However, I highly doubt every single enlisted service member is on board with this plan. I find it hard to believe that every single ranking member of the military will just throw their arms up and say “well we had a good run, guess I’ll go round up my friends and family now?” I think many of our fellow Americans will be hard pressed to follow orders to destroy society’s and take hostages. If they attempt this it will be a fractured mess at best. Especially how the cards fall between ranks. If it’s ends up being foot soldier taking cities and holding them against an air fleet or armada I don’t think they’ll have a very pleasant time.

Desert-Noir

People said that about Russian soldiers and generals and look where they are.

blue60007

I also usually get downvoting for pointing out that California had more Trump voters than Texas in 2020, and nearly as many in 2016. It would be a giant mess and not be pretty at all. There are also large blue enclaves in many red states.

ancientmarinersgps

The MAGA's do not have an army.

Ferelar

They do if Trump gets into office and solidifies his autocracy. Then all of the blue states can rebel, but the US military will officially be beholden to him. I have no doubt that some of the military would side against him, but would the majority? And to make matters worse, the vast majority of nukes are in solidly red states.

Day_of_Demeter

>Going to be really hard when (1) GOP has the largest military in the world at its disposal You're assuming the top brass would go along with Trump. They won't. >I don’t think blue states could create a military to take down the US military establishment. Each state has a national guard and there's no reason we can't create armed civilian militias. Plenty of leftists own guns.

randerwolf

What's to stop the new government from replacing top generals over the next year, as they plan to do with civil service, until the majority is fully loyal?

reid0

If presented with the choice of going along or being courtmartialed and potentially executed, the vast majority are going to just go along. It’s great to think the national guard has a chance, but stop and consider how they’d do against the US Airforce. Stop and consider how an armed militia would do against drones that fly out of sight and drop targeted missiles. It’s not realistic to think there will be much resistance to be offered up once the top job is in the hands of a sociopath backed by a plan to overthrow a nation. That’s not to say people won’t resist, but that their resistance will be relatively ineffectual.

SensualOilyDischarge

> You're assuming the top brass would go along with Trump. They won't. It's reasonable to assume that some would. The most reasonable thing that happens if Trump tries to use the military to invade cities is that the military fractures.

Hour_Landscape_286

The politicians we elected aren't mounting a defence... Trump, if elected, should be prevented from taking office by the military. He is a clear and present danger to democracy and national security. It would be the last chance to stop this if the electorate decides to vote away democracy.

kent_eh

> Do y'all intend to just roll over and take it? Thats been what has mostly happened so far with book bans and the other crap theyre doing.

Ridry

Thing is, we've gone through a pretty powerful realignment. Liberals move to blue places and conservatives to red ones. Yes, there are some liberals stuck under red oppression right now, but by and large? Most liberals are still living under the pre-Trump America.

homonculus_prime

I've always said that if the Republicans passed a law saying that only Republicans could break the law, the Democrats would follow it. Here we are...

Eh I would push it a little closer to five decades, as it feels like much of this really started with Nixon, but that's just counting hairs.

trolleyblue

This is it. We’re in the end game of that plan. Going back to Goldwater, Christian Conservatism and the Moral Majority…and the Ds are leading us into it. It’ll be interesting to look back at this time and see all the obvious missteps the Ds took.

LP99

I’ve been thinking about that George Carline bit “it’s a big club and you ain’t in it”. Democrats have long seemed to be fine watching Republicans loading the gun and saying ‘hey that’s bad’ but do absolutely nothing about it.

MonumentalMike

I have been saying now that its not a cult, its a terrorist organization

BeeLuv

“We are all domestic terrorists” CPAC, August 2022 https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/cpac-banner-domestic-terrorists/

Terrorist organizations *are* cults. Same kind of indoctrination and expectations of unquestioning compliance.

deadsoulinside

CPAC 2022 - We are all domestic terrorist

Blablablaballs

If only there was a historic example of people installing a side show freak in order to get "retribution" for a bunch of perceived slights in the past. Too bad this has never happened before, or Americans may be able to understand where this is headed. Oh well!

h3X4_

As a German let me tell you... about our great Euro 2024 tournament 🎉 it's really entertaining

yukon-flower

I mean, he’s the useful idiot. He’s a puppet. This plot has been going on for decades. There is so much wealth in the U.S. economy, and these tyrants want to go looting it. This has always been the game for them.

CaveManLawyer_

What if the Supreme Court makes Trump president like Bush v. Gore even though Biden wins? Shouldn't Biden immediately remove Alito and Thomas from SCOTUS? Is that not possible? The only way to resolve this is through the Supreme Court.

gattoblepas

Ding Ding Ding!

Every_Condition_3000

The time to do something about it is now. If yesterday evening is any indication however, all we're going to get is weak words with no action. A "disservice"? Come on. What happened yesterday was an all-out assault on the foundations on which this country was built. And our leaders are just going to mumble to themselves and let it happen.

DFX1212

Anything short of Biden addressing the nation as King and declaring that he intends to use his new powers is unacceptable. Fight fire with fire. They gave him everything he needs to guarantee democracy, anything less is not living up to the moment.

AINonsense

> What if the Supreme Court makes Trump president like Bush v. Gore even though Biden wins? > Shouldn't Biden immediately remove Alito and Thomas from SCOTUS? Is that not possible? > The only way to resolve this is through the Supreme Court. So why wait?

CaveManLawyer_

Something like that requires martial law probably. I think that's the only way though. Sinema and Manchin will vote with the Democrats for the two new judges. Biden declares Alito and Thomas removal as some sort of official act. That's the safest out from all of this fascism guys. Talk to your politicians.

Livewire_87

Sinema and Manchin would never in a million years vote for new judges unless the normal/proper procedure were being followed.  Manchin has already stated thst for the rest of his term he won't vote for a bill unless at least 1 republican supports it, too.

DFX1212

He could just as easily remove Senators.

meatball402

>What if the Supreme Court makes Trump president like Bush v. Gore even though Biden wins? Biden says, "Well, we played a good game." And rides off into the sunset.

fourbian

Pretty much. For the Democratic party, decorum is more important than democracy

deadsoulinside

The worst part about this, is people on Biden's team not realizing that Trumps people want Biden and his whole family executed thanks to fake news corps claiming they are a crime family and have committed treasonous levels of crimes. Never mind that even republican majority in the house, cannot actually even get enough of their own to support impeaching Biden. With Trump as dictator, he will have signed his own families death warrant. I mean he just yesterday was sharing an article talking about military tribunal for Liz Cheney for opposing Trump. If they are already wanting to do this with conservatives that oppose Trump, how do you think they will deal with democrats in general?

Newscast_Now

What if yesterday's 'door bangers' are replaced by today's *de facto immune* Rittenhouse army of black shirts?

Easy_Construction534

Hopefully Biden is working on a contingency for that possibility. The difference with Bush vs Gore is neither of them was an incumbent. Just as it was well within Trump’s rights to challenge the election results with 60 something investigations when he was president, Biden will have a lot of power to counter any kind of trickery, as long as he plans to fight his ass off and not roll over if he is the legitimate winner.

Great-Hotel-7820

There weren’t 60 something investigations, there were 60 something court cases based on no evidence whatsoever but Trump’s hurt feelings.

apitchf1

For all the checks and balances, the Supreme Court being the final say is no pun intended the ultimate trump card. It’s why conservatives stack the judiciary. They know there is no way to beat it and it can be anti democratic for life. Don’t like a law. Overturned. Law says something conservatives don’t like, overturn. Or loophole exception. Or precedent being thrown out. Okay, well just pass laws to combat that! Oh wait congress obstructionists block anything and if anything makes it through, unconstitutional. Democracy was lost the moment 5-4 decided bush and solidified with 6-3 majority under trump

keytiri

If Biden wins and then repugnants try to overturn the election again, they can all be rounded up via the insurrection act, scotus included.

Impressive_Abies6962

This is terrifying

Jaynie2019

My husband is from Venezuela and it’s crushing his soul to see the country he was granted citizenship in 1995 heading down the same path as the country of his birth.

SarcasticMemeWars

My husband moved to the US as a child from Russia when the USSR fell apart. He is seeing the writing on the wall because where we are headed is very similar to the outcome in Russia post USSR. We've had some pretty depressing conversations about it recently.

spaceface545

My father left Guyana when communism filled the void after the British left. And we are preparing to leave again. It pisses me off that the world is going down this path.

anita-chardonnay

My family and I moved from Venezuela the day of Chavez’s election. The parallels, albeit from the right instead of the left, are pretty staggering and bleak. Especially as it corresponds to elections.

Midnight290

I’m born in America and it’s been crushing my soul for a while now too.

InAllThingsBalance

Everyone has to vote like democracy depends on it…because it does! Keep MAGA out of office and then we start enacting meaningful change to protect our country.

Lucavii

I'ma preface this by saying I am absolutely going to vote, but I anticipate more SCOTUS shenanigans before this is over

AvengersXmenSpidey

I expect that, plus I expect a ton of House of Representatives shenanigans from trump's buddy Mike Johnson. That's even more troublesome. If the election is contested with no clear electoral college winner, because of local election tampering, then it goes to the House for a vote. Every state gets one vote, with Republican states greatly outnumbering blue states. Trump wins. That's how I see it going down, sadly. It's called a Contingent Election, and it was part of his original coup plan.

deadsoulinside

we have 4 more months until election and 6 months of worrying of SCOTUS trying something before J6. I just hope within these 6 months Biden finds his spine and considers the courts compromised and acts.

TankieWatchDog

Voting is the BARE MINIMUM people should be doing.

Misspiggy856

Isn’t that what was said in 2016 and 2020? I’ll vote blue but I do not feel like the Democratic Party is fighting hard enough for it’s supporters.

REDwhileblueRED

We already voted like democracy depends on it and the guy we voted in doesn’t seem to feel any urgency. Supreme Court just told him he can do whatever he likes and all has to offer us now are some up coming planned remarks about the ruling. He’s giving us words. That’s it.

Listening_Heads

This is that historic moment where a hundred years from now people in Europe look back and say “democrats had a full 6 months where they were in charge and knew the guy was going to become an emperor and still just let it happen?”

AndyTheSane

Well.. if you look at Hitler's rise to power, there were plenty of opportunities for the more centrist parties to band together and stop him. But there was a basic failure to unify and do what was needed.

fourbian

Because people were too comfortable and thought 'it couldn't happen to them". As good as this article is, it still doesn't drive the point home for how even conservatives lives are going to be made more difficult. Empty shelves at the grocery store. Rocketing gas prices. Losing your homes. Chaos in your own neighborhoods. Foreign countries like China taking advantage of the division and incompetency and coming to invade. White liberal moderates probably still think even they are going to be ok and don't understand the severity of the situation. A very bleak picture needs to be painted down to the individual level of how their new life will be under Trump. They have to see that everything they have now will be ripped away from them, if not immediately then in just a few years time.

AndyTheSane

Yes. People just assume that things like the rule of law, democratic elections, freedom of speech and the rest are unchangable laws of nature.

Gekokapowco

They've been shielded from overt tangible (and understandable) consequences in the past, so why wouldn't it be different this time? At least that's the logic, people are so happy to let things they don't understand erode

samefacenewaccount

Exactly. You can look at plenty of current countries to get an idea of how poorly run they are under dictators/fascist regimes. The people of North Korea, while most don't know any better, live awful lives. And that's not the only example. You can look at almost any country run by a dictator/fascist regime, and it's bleak. Even oil-rich countries like UAE and Qatar are massive human-rights violators. We will either be poor, or have all of our rights taken away, but most likely both. And it will be for everyone! It will also most likely start the quick spiral of the entire world. If he tanks the economy and stock market, even China stepping in to take on our role might not help. The global economy is too interconnected for the US to become obsolete in one presidential term.

Serialfornicator

They’re already working hard to ban books and close public libraries in some areas. It’s a fucking cultural Revolution all over again.

PeopleReady

Yes

thatnameagain

No, because historians aren’t asshats who put responsibility of actions on people other than the ones who actually take actions. That will say that pro-fascist Republican voters overwhelmed Democratic voters because the cultural power of their fascist movement was action oriented while passive Democratic voters simply sat around waiting for someone to save them and didn’t vote in large enough numbers because they were deluded into thinking that the ability to say “see, I told you so!” To their own politicians was more important to them than actually voting in large enough numbers against fascism.

Lifeesstwange

One thing I’m not hearing anybody talk about is the fact that yes, dystopian things lie ahead if America dumb enough to let this happen. BUT, the second Trump is in office, you can prepare for another surprise! Undoing the two term limit on grounds it’s unconstitutional. Vote.

Laatikkopilvia

I am quite certain that he will do away with elections all together.

V-RONIN

We wait their tables, cook and deliver their food, drive their cars and planes, build and fix their roads, build their houses, teach their children, deliver their packages, and fight in their wars. Every single one of us can be a weapon. We refuse to work. We refuse to buy shit for their consumer based holidays. If we have to work, oh gee wilikers I guess that package is gonna be shipped late and broken huh? Get me? “You have a class of young strong men and women, and they want to give their lives to something. Advertising has these people chasing cars and clothes they don’t need. Generations have been working in jobs they hate, just so they can buy what they don’t really need.”... “We have to show these men and women freedom by enslaving them, and show them courage by frightening them.”

AINonsense

> Day two of Donald Trump's dictatorship | Plotting out the demise of the American presidency That ship sailed yesterday.

Flat-Activity1124

2016 was the beginning of the end of America as we knew it.

junkyardgerard

A black man was elected president, and Republicans decided it would never happen again.

No_Seaworthiness3625

That and they decided that they’d rather burn it all to the ground instead of that black man having equal power to white ppl. I think it’s far too late for black folks to save the white folks from themselves. We’re well beyond the point of the abyss

Bohottie

This has been the plan for conservatives since the 80s. They just got a perfect catalyst in Trump. Really, once Reagan was elected, it was the beginning of the end.

FraGZombie

Nixon and the fairness doctrine

wagadugo

Trump will ally with Russia and attack Ukraine. Then will attack any country (ie our current allies) who fight back. This will be a nightmare.

Inspectorgadget4250

Enough already. Vote the fucker out in a resounding loss in November. Game. Set. Match.

mom_with_an_attitude

Yes. I will be voting blue. Yes, Biden not Trump. But what happens further down the line? Even if we defeat Trump now, one day a Republican will become president again, four or eight or twelve years down the line. And this ruling will still be on the books. So, what happens then?

SadPhase2589

We’re all fucked. Even if Trump loses this time there will be another Republican president in the future. Our nation as we know it is done.

SacamanoRobert

If Dems take control of Congress, and Biden wins again, laws can be put in place to stop this bullshit.

mom_with_an_attitude

What laws? This ruling was just passed by the highest court in the nation. The Supreme Court isn't going anywhere. These justices have lifetime appointments. This 6-3 split could potentially last for decades. I voted for Hillary. None of this would have happened if we had all voted for Hillary.

hypermodernvoid

I told *so many people* in MN, where I was at the time, that *no, it's not "safe" here to vote Green party* \-- and you know what? I know for a fact that I helped contribute to her \~2% win in MN. If only WI, and MI had went the same way. And yes, I was a Bernie supporter (he was beating Trump in all match-up polls by higher margins than Hillary) - but I knew just how wildly dangerous Trump was to democracy *back then*, because he said he'd jail his opponent as president - the fact people cheered as if it was this amazing "comeback" terrified me then, for the good reason we're seeing right now. In real time.

helpjackoffhishorse

Biden now has the power to jail/harm his political rival, with full immunity. What is he waiting for?

FraGZombie

No he doesn't. They made it so the court decides what is and isn't an official act. They gave presidents **they support** the power to jail/harm their political rivals.

al_swedgen01

Biden needs to do a symbolic arrest of Trump and keep him in custody for a day, all with as many media present as possible to demonstrate the stupidity of the court decision.

LuvKrahft

Before you do that, you Might want to make sure we give the American public a full year long course on what ‘symbolic’ means and how it can be useful for making a point about something without actually condoning that something.

Imsorrywhatnoway

As a non American, it's quite surprising to see this unravel with very sense of panic from the people. Are you guys ok?

I heard an NPR constitutional scholar say that the Supreme Court ruling allows a president to assassinate political rivals! NPR! not some yahoo on a YouTube stream. Even if Trump isn't elected, all we need is to win every election ever or we have a dictator. This is insanity!

SnoopsBadunkadunk

> Donald Trump and his agents’ and allies’ revolutionary plans to end American democracy are not secret: they have been publicly announced and are Please don’t call it a revolution, as that word in America has overtones of a popular uprising against authoritarian royalty. Trump *is* the authoritarian. Dems need to come up with a different word, or we are playing into their dishonest hands. “Power grab?” Maybe that will do for now. Think, what words would we use to describe what putin, Xi, or MBS did to consolidate their positions?

YoItzStoney

At what point do we the people start organizing? We need to take our country back

Ilovehugs2020

I watched a long interview with Donald Trump and Dr.Phil last night and his only policy was to make America great again. No one ever pressed him on his stance on Project 2025 or how he plans to dismantle checks and balances in this country. I’m convinced that a lot of people in America do not read because they only go by what Donald Trump tells them, Donald Trump knows how to make people feel good and say the right things. He is a classic narcissist!

LemonWater0518

**The Supreme Court** **has no power or authority to declare a constitutional amendment invalid, once it has been properly proposed and ratified.** Which is also why, Trump can't impose himself a forever dictator, either. It would take 2/3 of the House and Senate to repeal the 22nd Amendment (so about 357 total votes between the House and the Senate). That's pretty much impossible for either side to have such a strong majority in today's polarized climate. Trump would only serve one extra term and there's nothing any judge or higher court can do about it. With that being said -- VOTE -- [www.vote.org](http://www.vote.org) and r/VoteDEM are great resources and don't forget to spread info surrounding Project 2025 to anyone and everyone

badger906

So his plan is to go full Hitler.. just without the gas chambers and ovens..

Tiny_Fly_7397

Don’t be too sure about that last part

FraGZombie

Yep, project 2025 doesn't shy away from the use of "camps".

JohnMayerismydad

He wants to use ICE to mass deport suspected illegal immigrants and place them in concentration camps until someone agrees to take them. Thats only one step away from full Hitler.

Great-Hotel-7820

Nah it’s just full Hitler. The original plan for the Jews was to supposedly deport them all to Madagascar, but anyone with any sense could immediately tell you that was impossible. You don’t start with murder camps, you gradually work toward them by doing exactly what they say they plan on doing.

ihaveaboehnerr

If you aren't already armed it's probably time because one of the first things they will do is prevent undesirables from buying weapons.

willowmarie27

Sinclair Lewis It can't happen here is a nice read.

EmmaLouLove

Remember, when Trump was first elected in 2016, Steve Bannon said conservatives goal is “deconstruction of the administrative state.” Fast forward to project 2025, and we are fucked if Trump gets back in the oval office. Vote Democrat down the ballot.

AfterInteractions

I think the only way forward is for the People to amend the Constitution to say that a former President is not immune from criminal prosecution for acts committed during their term of office. John Roberts says the Constitution confers immunity; We the People say it doesn’t.

sentientcave

Fascism has no time to wait for trump. America has already effectively become a one-party system with an insurmountable lock on power, and that party is fascist.

JohnHowardBuff

Why is the Media so quick to say this is "Trump's dictatorship" we are living in *now*. It's not. I get that the SC is the main issue, today and tomorrow, but why is the media giving in to this Boil the Frog method of making us *even more susceptible* to stepping into this massive pile of bull crud by simply giving in. If the Media cared anything for Democracy they would be writing headlines and articles that reflect the true reality: PEOPLE STILL HAVE A VOICE. We aren't there YET. **VOTE**

Larry___David

They don't care. They want the clicks now and the money now. We live in a sea of total misinformation where the average person spends more time than ever following the news, but has absolutely no freaking clue about what's actually going on. Just scroll through this comment section - it's all fanficton and lunacy. The media is a huge reason why this country has become what it is now

Burrmanchu

Crap Pants Caligula needs to get drone striked by Biden. I can't believe I'm watching this shit happen in real time.

underalltheradar

People should vote for Biden *even if he was in a coma instead* of Trump. But too many people base their votes on *superficial bullshit.* As we need to repeat: Trump's first term ended in a pandemic. His second term will end in a mushroom cloud.

shortsleevedpants

r/Conservative isn’t even happy with this decision. That makes me incredibly uncomfortable

mfc90125

Because they also know it applies to democratic presidents as well. Biden today could order Trump’s demise and it would be completely legal.

calgarspimphand

Well, it wouldn't be legal per se, but it would be almost impossible to charge Biden with a crime, and he could pardon anyone who acted on his obviously illegal orders. He couldn't pardon any state crimes, but if he assassinated Trump in DC it wouldn't even be a state crime. So yeah pretty much he can just murder Trump.

Great-Hotel-7820

They’re unhappy because a Democrat is president. They’ll have no problem when Trump starts exploiting the shit out of it to commit ”legal” crimes.

jpla86

Project 2025 has already begun, folks.

Clingygengar

I feel like I’m going to puke

Darth0s

And that's how easy it was for Hitler to rise to power. People wonder why nobody did anything to stop him yet here we are with another dictator in waiting.

M25commuter

Afraid to say it, but November will be the last time Americans will be allowed to vote for anyone other than MAGA.

slingshot91

There is honestly nothing stopping Biden from having the justices arrested except the threat of impeachment. Toss them in jail and replace them since they can’t perform their official duties.

Joshwoum8

Nothing stopping him except the electorate turning on him, a landslide victory for Trump, and possibly the actual fulfillment of GOP plans to make this a 1 party Christian fascist dictatorship.

cukablayat

SCOTUS already set it up by granting full presidental immunity, that everyone can see all the way from the fucking moon that Trump will abuse to its limits when he is formally crowned god-emperor after November. [But at least Biden is taking the moral highroad and won't break any traditions to stop this prolonged coup](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DQPkOKVV4AA9WWj.jpg)

Busy-Flan-7095

Imagine if democrats had a candidate that could go out and talk about this.

Kswizzle14

Meanwhile my mother, who is fully aware her daughter is queer and married to another woman, believes that Project 2025 will never happen and still plans on voting for Trump. It’s already started. They’re so blind to everything around them. It’s incredibly defeating. I feel like my mom doesn’t truly care about my well being.

stonrelectropunkjazz

Looks like we never learn from our mistakes

CrieDeCoeur

Maybe it's mentioned somewhere in Project 2025 since I've not read it all, but what do they plan to do about the millions of Democrat / liberal / POC / etc. gun owners? Does the military confiscate their firearms? Does MAGA expect sane people to just roll over and be obedient? Or does the first shot fired in rebellion just start another civil war that the MAGA slobs have been drooling for all this time?
