I used to serve them at a coffee shop in Nashville about 10 years ago and they were really kind people. They would sit in the cafe with their kid (or was it two kids?) every once and a while and they all just seemed like a happy family. Even if their order was wrong, it was never a problem. I once saw Nicole talking with people in line in such a friendly way that I thought they were all friends, but after she left I saw the other women freaking out they got to meet her. That’s some great people skills from someone who is probably exhausted of being approached by fans for decades.

So many men have successful careers because their wives made it possible. Not that highly-paid male celebrities don’t love their families, but it seems like a job where you would need a supportive partner to make it all come together.
Shoutout to the wives of Charles Darwin and Albert Einstein. These men couldn't remember to feed themselves and these ladies did everything for them so they could think and write and travel and change science.
My favourite historical wife of a “great man” is Jenny Von Westphalen. An outspoken feminist and socialist activist in her own right, who gave up a life of luxury as a member of the aristocracy to marry and work with Karl Marx. She organised events, transcribed his meetings, was an editor of the Communist Manifesto - all that whilst taking care of the home and their children. She was an incredible woman and he would have been nothing without her, yet barely anyone knows her name.

I love the way Michelle talks about marriage. Acknowledges that it takes effort and doesn’t pretend everything has always been perfect, but also has real respect for him and supports him.
I was in the same grade with one of Pierce and Keely’s sons. Can confirm that both are incredibly kind, lovely people and very down-to-earth. They don’t act like they’re above or better than anyone else, they’re just nice people. Keely is incredibly kind and quick witted as well as beautiful, so Pierce definitely did well. They seemed to still be incredibly in love, my parents told me that at an orientation BBQ before school where the parents all talked to the teachers that Pierce and Keely were holding hands and grinning at each other like they both won the lottery, being very cozy while other parents seemed to not be able to stand one another! Their son is also very cool (don’t know his brother, but the son in question introduced me to a lot of underground bands and activist stuff).
Seriously, I think Jen was almost too nice to him. She basically tanked her career to be his wife and mother their kids. She supported him though his gambling issues and his (multiple) bouts of infidelity. And even after they got divorced, she's still fairly nice to and about him in the press. And you KNOW she has a ton of dirt on him, yet she lets his skeezy ass collect praise instead of dragging it through the mud.
She has never told on him even once, even after he embarrassed her multiple times post-separation (like his Howard Stern interview,) and people still criticize her also. Like if she did divulge, people would call her bitter, but she keeps his secrets and people call her a martyr. Very annoying.
I think she's smart and savvy. She knows it never looks good to air your dirty laundry and anyway, she didn't need to. Ben was widely criticized for what he said about her so all she had to do was keep quiet.
As a divorced mom—I don’t ever want my kids to hear me shit-talk their dad (even though he deserves it). I want my boys to have a good relationship with their dad, and I don’t want it to be my fault if they don’t. And I definitely don’t want them to feel like I love them less because I don’t love their dad.

I love reading about their Chicago days pre-2004, just being young, working parents. There’s definitely another timeline where Barack never makes it to the national stage, and they continue to live out a relatively normal life.
When I read Becoming I was simultaneously in awe of Michelle but also really pissed about the fact she put her entire illustrious career aside to basically be a wife. She didn’t sound resentful at all about this choice and her and Barack seem to have a truly beautiful partnership but I can’t help but wonder what she could’ve accomplished if she hadn’t put herself on the back burner.
It’s interesting you see it this way. I see becoming the first black First Lady of the US as a pretty huge, practically unbeatable accomplishment in and of itself. And getting into/being jn the White House was clearly a collaborative project between Barack and Michelle. Feel like they definitely achieved their massive influence as a team. Neither one of them could have done it without the other, and both of them got further and accomplished more together than they would have individually. My opinion.
Definitely a team. And frankly not everyone is after every last slice of money and fame. When they’re old and grey, they know they have each other and some smart kiddos who seem to be good young ladies too.

Yes!! It doesn’t feel real. The earliest hint that they were dating was in early 2018 and her divorce was announced in July of 2017. I assume there was more than a six month gap between relationships, she most likely didn’t go public with the divorce for a while and and went public with her next relationship five years later. Her 2020 & 2021 solo albums are like a diary detailing her divorce and finding love. Due to the topics explored in her 2021 album it’s likely that York and Williams broke up for a bit before getting back together (and finishing her 2020 album). Agreed! I got onto Op-ED articles from the daily mail written about her before she married William and was shocked about how mean a lot of the now supportive journalists were about her back then.
She was called Waity Katie and Duchess Do-little because she didn’t really have a job and waited around until William proposed even though they spilt up once and there were alleged affairs. But those same journalists (aka the Daily Mail) absolutely love her now and thinks he can’t put a foot wrong.
I think they call her that because allegedly she was waiting for him to propose when they weren't even together. Allegedly he wanted to sleep with other people and be wild so she agreed to break up so he could sow his oats. With the understanding that he would eventually marry her and make her queen. Which is whatever if true.

The press was horrible to her, and her family. The paps would harass her and call her horrible names just so they could get a reaction shot. There were definitely a couple of instances where she was left in tears due to being overwhelmed.

Uhh, Byron Bay is one of the nicest places to live in Australia and the snakes and spiders thing has been largely exaggerated by non-Australians and the media. She’s literally living in paradise, and their kids get to grow up not being hounded by paparazzi. What I do applaud her for is making the sacrifice to move to another continent away from her own family, something I’m not sure I could ever do.

Yeah snakes are a rare sight in populated areas. If you went to the outback or some of the more rural towns in australia or like deep rainforest you might see one or two. Spiders are more commonly about I guess but most of the ones who find their way into your home are harmless.
I didn’t realise she brought her family over, that’s great. Byron is a lovely town to live in, albeit kind of a tourist hot spot these days 😩

Australia is a far safer and nicer place to live than many other countries. Elsa and her family can lead a somewhat private life away from paparazzi in a beautiful laid back beach town, with some of the best and freshest food/produce. Snakes and spiders are around but they're not an everyday sight in built up areas, maybe once or twice a year and the more commonly seen ones are harmless. Snakes are actually quite rare to see and if you do see one, you call someone to remove them.
It’s so funny to see people talk about Australia’s wildlife when there are parts of the US where bears, coyotes, mountain lions, wolves, and moose are a natural part of your life.
My partner and I were just laughing about how Americans are terrified of our wildlife but could be attacked by a bear or mountain lion while on a hike? No thank you

You'll occasionally see one or a spider, but most of the time they'll be harmless (I've never seen a wild snake irl and I've lived here my entire life). It's like if I said I refused to go the US because bears and coyotes - they exist but they're not a big problem for most people.
Basically come visit us down here! We have nice beaches, less creepy crawlies than you'd expect, and Tim Tams.

I used to serve them at a coffee shop in Nashville about 10 years ago and they were really kind people. They would sit in the cafe with their kid (or was it two kids?) every once and a while and they all just seemed like a happy family. Even if their order was wrong, it was never a problem. I once saw Nicole talking with people in line in such a friendly way that I thought they were all friends, but after she left I saw the other women freaking out they got to meet her. That’s some great people skills from someone who is probably exhausted of being approached by fans for decades.

My favourite historical wife of a “great man” is Jenny Von Westphalen. I was in the same grade with one of Pierce and Keely’s sons. Can confirm that both are incredibly kind, lovely people and very down-to-earth. They don’t act like they’re above or better than anyone else, they’re just nice people. Keely is incredibly kind and quick witted as well as beautiful, so Pierce definitely did well. They seemed to still be incredibly in love, my parents told me that at an orientation BBQ before school where the parents all talked to the teachers that Pierce and Keely were holding hands and grinning at each other like they both won the lottery, being very cozy while other parents seemed to not be able to stand one another! Their son is also very cool (don’t know his brother, but the son in question introduced me to a lot of underground bands and activist stuff).

Seriously, I think Jen was almost too nice to him. She basically tanked her career to be his wife and mother their kids. She supported him though his gambling issues and his (multiple) bouts of infidelity. And even after they got divorced, she's still fairly nice to and about him in the press. And you KNOW she has a ton of dirt on him, yet she lets his skeezy ass collect praise instead of dragging it through the mud.
She has never told on him even once, even after he embarrassed her multiple times post-separation (like his Howard Stern interview,) and people still criticize her also. Like if she did divulge, people would call her bitter, but she keeps his secrets and people call her a martyr. Very annoying.

As a divorced mom—I don’t ever want my kids to hear me shit-talk their dad (even though he deserves it). I want my boys to have a good relationship with their dad, and I don’t want it to be my fault if they don’t. And I definitely don’t want them to feel like I love them less because I don’t love their dad. It’s a fine line and while revenge is sweet, Jen is taking the high road and it will result in a better relationship with her babies.

When I read Becoming I was simultaneously in awe of Michelle but also really pissed about the fact she put her entire illustrious career aside to basically be a wife. She didn’t sound resentful at all about this choice and her and Barack seem to have a truly beautiful partnership but I can’t help but wonder what she could’ve accomplished if she hadn’t put herself on the back burner.
It’s interesting you see it this way. I see becoming the first black First Lady of the US as a pretty huge, practically unbeatable accomplishment in and of itself. And getting into/being jn the White House was clearly a collaborative project between Barack and Michelle. Feel like they definitely achieved their massive influence as a team. Neither one of them could have done it without the other, and both of them got further and accomplished more together than they would have individually. My opinion.
Definitely a team. And frankly not everyone is after every last slice of money and fame. When they’re old and grey, they know they have each other and some smart kiddos who seem to be good young ladies too.

Yes!! It doesn’t feel real. The earliest hint that they were dating was in early 2018 and her divorce was announced in July of 2017. I assume there was more than a six month gap between relationships, she most likely didn’t go public with the divorce for a while and and went public with her next relationship five years later. Her 2020 & 2021 solo albums are like a diary detailing her divorce and finding love. Due to the topics explored in her 2021 album it’s likely that York and Williams broke up for a bit before getting back together (and finishing her 2020 album). But yeah, it’s obviously still a traumatic experience that she’s still alluding to in her lyrics in This Is Why.

She had to pretend everything was fine even though the whole world could see her topless on the internet during a supposedly private moment.

Uhh, Byron Bay is one of the nicest places to live in Australia and the snakes and spiders thing has been largely exaggerated by non-Australians and the media. She’s literally living in paradise, and their kids get to grow up not being hounded by paparazzi. What I do applaud her for is making the sacrifice to move to another continent away from her own family, something I’m not sure I could ever do.

Yeah snakes are a rare sight in populated areas. If you went to the outback or some of the more rural towns in australia or like deep rainforest you might see one or two. Spiders are more commonly about I guess but most of the ones who find their way into your home are harmless. I didn’t realise she brought her family over, that’s great. Byron is a lovely town to live in, albeit kind of a tourist hot spot these days 😩
Tell me you've never been to Australia without telling me. Australia is a far safer and nicer place to live than many other countries. Elsa and her family can lead a somewhat private life away from paparazzi in a beautiful laid back beach town, with some of the best and freshest food/produce. Snakes and spiders are around but they're not an everyday sight in built up areas, maybe once or twice a year and the more commonly seen ones are harmless. Snakes are actually quite rare to see and if you do see one, you call someone to remove them.

We have nice beaches, less creepy crawlies than you'd expect, and Tim Tams.
