Tangential, but I'm very pale, burn and freckle easily, and I was born and raised in South East Queensland in Australia where the sun is vicious beyond belief. There's a counter-trend: we have such high rates of skin cancer that necessary sun protection has led to high rates of vitamin D deficiency. Legit can't win.
I slathered myself in sunscreen (raise in Spain but with really pale skin and now I leave in another sunny place) and take vitamin D supplements advised by my doctor.
There has been skin cancer cases in my family’s last 3 generations so it’s not if but when it will happen to me. My kids had not gotten sunburn yet, I have been very diligent, now that they are getting older I have to remind them to use sunscreen all the time, they are as pale as me…
I’m a sheet of paper that lives in Texas. I actually order Cancer Council in the giant pump bottle from Oz. I also take a 50,000IU Vit D a week. This is the way. My levels are top notch and my skin is transparent.
Right?! I'm 40 and a lot of people I graduated high school with have gray hairs, wrinkles, and look like they're 45+. Meanwhile I get mistaken for being late 20s, early 30s. The sun will do serious damage to age you up.

In these situations, both the cheater and the affair partner are at fault unless the cheater lied about being in a relationship and the affair partner had no idea. It’s gross and weird to defend people who do this repeatedly and act like they’ve done nothing wrong because they weren’t the ones who made vows.

I actually hate “look how well this millionaire celebrity is aging “ not only do they use photoshop , they’d have the best plastic surgeon in the world and regular Botox from a very young age , the best trainers and nutritionists and even with all that they still don’t look like their photo.

I agree with all of the above and want to add: I'm trying to untrain my brain from the concept of "aging well" and "she looks so good for -blank- age". I had the epiphany recently that it's a form of internalized misogyny. At least to me.
Aging women are treated like garbage because looks (and therefore youth) is what women are valued for. Saying she is aging well because she looks good/youthful just plays into this narrative. Men don't have to deal with this.

Yeah I'm pretty certain it's Room with a View, they're all such pretty edwardian dresses, she did a lot of merchant ivory period pieces but I think that's the only one where she predominantly wore white

I find it so funny when people say “oh she is aging so well”, no people who have money for extensive skincare / surgery / botox / fillets and all sorts of stuff they age like this. This is not aging well, this is not accepting aging and trying to look 25 at age 50.

I love her, we are the same age, but some of these photos are so filtered they make her look 20. You can't look to Hollywood for evidence of people aging well or not.
On one hand this place always talks about how terrible the expectations we put on older women are in regards to aging and then on the other hand we go insane praising any middle aged women who looks younger than her age. This subreddit *constantly* has posts and comments on whether aging celebrities look young for their age. It is literally a *given* that it will be brought up on anything related to a female celebrity over 40.
It is spaces like this (femme dominated pop culture spaces) that make women feel bad for aging more than anything. The same spaces which pretend to be progressive on this issue are always the ones who focus the most on this stuff. It's just sad because we blame the patriarchy, we blame misogyny, we blame sexism etc for this shit but then we end up being literally the worst perpetrators.
Can we please stop posting about how women over 40 are aging so well. They are rich, have access to the best cosmetic treatments and use photoshop.
We should celebrate their accomplishments and personalities!

In Ireland, we can’t win either. We’re all vitamin D deficient but skin cancer is the most common cancer. Nobody sees the risk in our grey sky days.

I love her, but it’s called having a very good plastic surgeon. 57 year old women do not look like this. Ever! Unless, they’ve had extensive plastic surgery. You can’t achieve this, ladies! This is not realistic for most people.

I love her, we are the same age, but some of these photos are so filtered they make her look 20. You can't look to Hollywood for evidence of people aging well or not.

On one hand this place always talks about how terrible the expectations we put on older women are in regards to aging and then on the other hand we go insane praising any middle aged women who looks younger than her age. This subreddit *constantly* has posts and comments on whether aging celebrities look young for their age. It is literally a *given* that it will be brought up on anything related to a female celebrity over 40. It is spaces like this (femme dominated pop culture spaces) that make women feel bad for aging more than anything. The same spaces which pretend to be progressive on this issue are always the ones who focus the most on this stuff. It's just sad because we blame the patriarchy, we blame misogyny, we blame sexism etc for this shit but then we end up being literally the worst perpetrators.
Can we please stop posting about how women over 40 are aging so well. They are rich, have access to the best cosmetic treatments and use photoshop. We should celebrate their accomplishments and personalities!
