I feel a deep connection with my spotify family even though I only know one of the people involved. I love them and if they ever break up with me I will get devastated
I did that for YEARS with my friends but then unfortunately people stopped paying me and I wasn’t going to keep giving them free Spotify lol. A shame too, it was only like $2/ month for each of us.
Right like it’s so small but then at the end of the day I was paying for everyone Spotify, and I could have paid $5 for a student plan. So I had to cancel lol, in college an extra $10 is everything lol
yeah well actually it was cheaper for me to do a student plan, at $5 a month then to keep paying $16 for everyone. I was in college at the time so every $$ counted. Individual Spotify plans are only $10
I have a family plan and they aren't like...*checking* it like Netflix, but every member who joined had to provide my address as their address. If I were to change my address, I think it would boot everyone else unless they could provide my new address.
I am in the US and they are in Canada
Edit to add, I still have a Canadian phone plan so maybe that’s why there’s no issue? But I feel like from state to state shouldn’t be a problem at all.
Pro tip:
- Get Xmanager for spotify. Then you can listen to spotify without ads and you can choose to listen to any song you like. But you can't download the songs but if you got wifi or enough mobile data it's perfect.
- Get youtube music vanced. r/revancedapp . Then you can listen to any youtube music song without ads. Can't download songs either but works fine if you got wifi or enough mobile data.
- Get Seeker it's a music torrenting app. With that app you can download every album you like in less than 10 seconds for free. The album will then be saved in your music app. Use a VPN for downloading tho.
Yep. I remember when it was $9.99. Now it'll be $12?
Just like Amazon Prime Video making you pay for no ads - when it once was ad free with skippable commercials.
Yes, pretty sure just a few months ago. I’m looking into going elsewhere, just trying to figure out who offers family plans for less because I cover for my parents, as well.
Honestly, I wish we would riot over more things. Like I am shocked how openly corrupt our Supreme Court is and nobody seems to give a shit. If covid taught me anything, if regular people could be unified, we could completely control this nation.
Same. But we all have to act together. That’s why the politicians spend so much time dividing us. Immigration. Trans rights. Donald Trump. They keep us distracted and separated on purpose.
I think it’s so funny, where I was raised (in the country, USA) we were taught the French were “wussies” and blah blah blah, but the US actually needs to learn from France because we are SPINELESS compared to them. Their government threatens to do anything they slightly don’t like and they riot in the streets lmao I love it
I read a book recently about police militarization (excellent book, btw), and I realized that we *can't* protest like we should. Police response has been more harsh on college students, hippies, and counter-culture stuff, and less on things like January 6th, which get treated with kid gloves in comparison.
So Occupy all over again. People unified, but with no leadership, shared agenda, or goals, it went absolutely no where.
“Rioting,” protesting, and marching all mean nothing if you have no destination other than unity or save democracy. It sounds great, but you really need some sort of plan of execution.
We could all revolt but as divisive as the current population is, we’d be gunning for a power vacuum that only leads to something worse.
I do agree but I’ll also add remember when spending money meant you owned the thing you paid for? Paying for streams is as good as lighting money on fire.
It takes approximately ten streams for an artist to make five CENTS. Pirating music isn’t the problem here, but how very 00s retro of you to act like it is.
I just think it's funny you're talking about owning things you paid for and then suggesting not to pay for them lmao
At least I'm somewhat supporting the artists, unlike piracy
Both things can be true: if I’m paying for something, in most cases I expect to own it and do with it what I choose, when I choose. Take that away (and add all the other problems with this model) there’s no incentive to pay. Selling albums has ever really been the money marker for artists. That was true in the “you wouldn’t steal a car” era and it’s certainly true now.
The CEOs salary has to increase every year. Duh. How do you expect them to buy a second yacht or fourth house? Won’t someone think of the shareholders for once?
I just use the free version. It’s a pain in the ass, but I’ll deal. I wanted to go on the duo with my boyfriend, but he’s grandfathered into a deal where we get Hulu for free and since I use Hulu all the time, I don’t want to give that up.
I have no clue honestly, I got it as a college student and assumed it would go away when I couldn’t verify my student email anymore but it’s still going strong so I don’t ask any questions lol my partner also wanted to get the duo deal but I think that would mean giving up Hulu
Same! I have been using mine post college and the Hulu still works. That’s good to know that I would lose it if I change my subscription. Although Hulu with ads sucks so much I barely use it.
I had that Hulu deal until someone hacked into my bank account and then the bank forced me to make a new bank account. I had no access to a debit card and I couldn't pay for it when it was time to renew monthly. So now I'm stuck with an individual account without Hulu. I'm so frustrated!
that’s so interesting, that happened to me when I forgot to switch my card after it expired and when I asked customer service, they just reinstated the Hulu add on for me
I have this deal too, and I had to update my payment method a few years ago, immediately I got an email saying Hulu was canceled. I was pissed. I contacted customer service and demanded they reinstate my Hulu, they couldn’t explain why it was even canceled. I’ve updated my payment again since then and didn’t have the same issue.
Pro Tip: if you can listen to it on the web version just install U-Block Origin on it. You can listen to any song you want but you can’t download playlist or view lyrics but you can listen to your music. Plus, if you this do consistently you’ll get curated daily mixes than you can pick and choose from on the mobile app. Or at least how I’ve done it. The ads sucks but I deal with it
I'm on the free version and getting the same 5 ads. But they typically will offer me a free premium eventually, and I'll sign up and immediately cancel and I can use it for however many months they give me.
My boyfriend recently mentioned doing the duo for us but I also have the free Hulu deal and I refuse to give that up. They’ll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands lol
https://www.xmanagerapp.com/ for android
You have to uninstall spotify first if you have it then download the latest version from the xmanager app, then you can sign in your account like normal on it after install.
I have loved finding new music with smart shuffle but all their shuffle functions have been exceptionally terrible the last few months. Either the function is totally broken or they are trying to push certain songs/artists because I keep getting the same songs "shuffled" in the same order.
Idk - the ads are much shorter than radio in my experience.
If you like completely random then I guess radio is for you - but than I’m not sure why you paid for Spotify in the first place.
Shorter but more frequent ads. Ill take a longer break if it means more uninterrupted music. More control over set Playlists for things like the gym, but I also still have a huge library from back in the day to pull from. 5 or 6 bucks, I could put up with it, but get over 10, and I will balk. I'm not made of money, and I have rent to pay
For a few years there, I genuinely did pay for my tv/movies and music. And then everything became bonkers expensive and/or require multiple subscriptions to consume the entertainment you actually want. Not tot mention we keep learning how little of what we pay goes back to the talent themselves. So now I’m back to 🏴☠️ and sorry not sorry.
I’ve been making my switch to Apple Music. Spotify expects to be able to make the platform worse and charge more. I can get lossless audio and be a good deal more confident they’re not going to make it shitty like Spotify did.
I don’t know about the family plan but I pay $10.99/mo for an individual subscription, which is what my Spotify subscription was at the time I switched, and imo I’m getting way more for my money on Apple Music
I love Apple Music, I switched just last week to trial the lossless audio with my new headphones. It sounds amazing, I much prefer the UI (Spotify seems so clunky and messy now) and overall I’m really liking it so far
i swear every subscription service is raising their prices every few months... and we never get better service out of it, the artists never see any of this extra money. it all goes to the corporate execs who don't do shit except open a spreadsheet every once in a while to make sure number go up.
people are eventually gonna be priced out of this shit. i've already cancelled a lot of my streaming platforms.
i was just going through my payment history the other day trying to refund my car thing and noticed spotify had increased the price twice within the last two years. this will be number 3 and call me surprised.
I’ve been using Musi for years. i’m glad people are learning about it but at the same time the more popular it gets it’ll probably get shut down again.
So Google caught them using YouTube without permission for the base of the app so the app was pretty much gutted. they were able to go back to normal after a year or two. This is just me paraphrasing and remembering the developers explanation as to why the app was weird for a while.
Honestly speaking streaming as it is right now isn't viable and that has probably more to do with the record labels than Spotify. It doesn't pay enough to the artist and it doesn't pay enough to Spotify and who ends up paying is the consumer
I agree, at least for me. I only have a couple other streaming services in addition to Spotify Premium (Hulu and Prime Video), so I’m okay with this increase (for now).
My friend offered me the option to join her plan, but we couldn’t get it to work. It kept getting stuck at the address prompt, and wouldn’t accept her proper address.
I use Spotify, but only on Wednesdays when I go out to volunteer and do my errands. So I just stick with free and mute the ads.
Here's a potential "hack" to save money. Find yourself one of the 12 Month Spotify Premium digital gift cards that run for $99. Before the last price increase, you were getting 2 months for free, now it's 3 and if they keep the gift card available for the same price, you'll be getting 4 months free after the next increase.
I get mine from Sam's Club for $96.98.
Another tip for those that hate that Spotify starts playing songs that you don't want, go into settings and turn off autoplay. It took me a few to figure that one out.
I also found this [Spicetify](https://spicetify.app/) app that helps configure the Spotify desktop app how I'd like. I can add helpful things to it and I can also hide things such as all the podcast stuff that I'm not interested in.
You think one hour of work should pay for unlimited access to any song you want for an entire month? Even $12 a month is still a great deal. I wouldn’t get through the workday without it.
Me with my grandfathered student Hulu/Spotify combo that’s been $9.99 for years now
https://preview.redd.it/6hbk84vovd4d1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=277543a3a653bc3a85e370a63fc8ccb2e92a6952
I been cancelled Spotify. I’m a big YouTube guy, I watch a ton of YouTube, so I prefer to pay $19 to YouTube every month and just stream my music off of YouTube.
I'm on a YouTube Premium trial right now and YouTube music is way less terrible than I remembered. Think I'm going stick with it when the trial is up and ditch Spotify.
Just a reminder that it's really easy to install a cracked Spotify app with free premium. Just make sure you are downloading the API from a place with a good reputation. You will still see an ad now and then asking you to go to premium but you can just close it. Have been using Spotify premium without paying for over a year now.
Are there ANY other platforms that have: That sized library without any modifications to the original recordings? (Pitch tweaks)
Cause I would definitely switch. But I do a lot of sub gigs in cover bands and I need that to learn 40 songs in a week fairly often.
So, I've had Hulu with ads bundled with spotify premium for $10/month for years now. I am waiting for the day they come after that, and I'm honestly surprised that I'm still getting it all for that price.
It seems like the main difference between free and premium is ads, and inability to download music. Is downloading music here = listening off of WiFi? Or downloading within your phone? At this point I’m willing to listen to ads between songs (and I get it, they’re actually trying to push more users towards ad-supported plans so they sort of want this, though obviously they also want revenue from subscription plans), because I currently cannot afford continuous subscription increases.
Well with all that extra money maybe they can finally afford to fix their fucking shuffle function after all these years
I've got playlists with 300+ songs and I hear the same 15 of them every time I get in the car. It's ridiculous

Splitting the family plan with friends is still the move. Once they find a way to lock that to one household, we’re cooked.
I feel a deep connection with my spotify family even though I only know one of the people involved. I love them and if they ever break up with me I will get devastated
Same here. I assembled my family and if Spotify increases prices, we’ll become a broken household
I still have free Hulu from my Spotify student days (it’s been grandfathered in). Once that goes, so does my Spotify account though 🙃
Ohhh I was wondering when that would expire on my account! I graduated and nothing changed 😅
Losing my student Spotify pricing was the only shitty thing about graduating.
I did that for YEARS with my friends but then unfortunately people stopped paying me and I wasn’t going to keep giving them free Spotify lol. A shame too, it was only like $2/ month for each of us.
Exactly, I do find it a pain to be the one organising it and telling people oh so this is your share! Or reminding them to pay such a small amount!

Individual Spotify plans are only $10
They already did, had to get my own plan
That’s strange, I am still on a family plan with someone I haven’t seen in years
I have a family plan and they aren't like...*checking* it like Netflix, but every member who joined had to provide my address as their address. If I were to change my address, I think it would boot everyone else unless they could provide my new address.
You guys in the same state? I think our issue was we weren’t in the same state anymore, I’m not sure tho
I am in the US and they are in Canada Edit to add, I still have a Canadian phone plan so maybe that’s why there’s no issue? But I feel like from state to state shouldn’t be a problem at all.
I’m not sure honestly this was like 8 months ago and I just moved on from it
Maybe the owner of the plan kicked you off? That’s all I can think
Do you have to be? I'm on a family plan with some people (who I never met) that live in the US and Malaysia. I live in the UK
This is just wrong lol. They just fucked up putting your address in. Source: I run a Spotify family and live no where near them,
I need friends and family to do this with.
Just put the same address as your friends.
Unless you want access to audiobooks
we’re cooked? you mean: ![gif](giphy|FGbeYTiFyLYmQ)

Didn’t they raise their prices recently from 9.99 to 10.99? 😒
YouTube Premium is such a better deal
It’d be cool if they raised the minimum wage as often as they increased prices on these subscriptions
We need to riot in the streets
Honestly, I wish we would riot over more things. Like I am shocked how openly corrupt our Supreme Court is and nobody seems to give a shit. If covid taught me anything, if regular people could be unified, we could completely control this nation.
I wish we would unify against the politicians making our lives hell and take back what’s ours. I’m just so fed up with this bullshit
Yes!! Also very true. I thought of that after I commented. There’s so many layers to it unfortunately ☹️
We need another French Revolution ![gif](giphy|hYW2w7ulXxVCG98E8h)
So Occupy all over again. People unified, but with no leadership, shared agenda, or goals, it went absolutely no where. “Rioting,” protesting, and marching all mean nothing if you have no destination other than unity or save democracy. It’s hard to convince people to skip work to riot when a large portion of the country is living paycheck to paycheck
I don't understand how we aren't talking about the corruption of the Supreme Court everyday. Everyone is so chill with our country going to shit.
People are too busy working 2-3 jobs to riot in the streets and STILL barely making it.
Need to participate in, and vote in every phase of government honestly. But rioting is less work and more fun
I’ve joined the Army and voted. Still getting the same results.
I do agree but I’ll also add remember when spending money meant you owned the thing you paid for? Paying for streams is as good as lighting money on fire.
Difference is I can listen to significantly more music with streaming than I could by actually buying them Benefits massively outweigh the cons imo
And carry it anywhere
You know mp3s aren't tangible, right?
You know they weren't be literal when they said they can carry it anywhere, right?
Uh, now I definitely don’t get it. Digital files can go anywhere.
You can still download an infinite number of songs.
With my infinite money?
who said anything about paying? Artists aren't making money off spotify anyways.
They're making more than you pirating them lmao
It takes approximately ten streams for an artist to make five CENTS. Pirating music isn’t the problem here, but how very 00s retro of you to act like it is.
I just think it's funny you're talking about owning things you paid for and then suggesting not to pay for them lmao At least I'm somewhat supporting the artists, unlike piracy

That was true in the “you wouldn’t steal a car” era and it’s certainly true now.
Wasn't the ceo just talking about how all content on Spotify is essentially worthless? What then, would warrant a price increase?
The CEOs salary has to increase every year. Duh. How do you expect them to buy a second yacht or fourth house? Won’t someone think of the shareholders for once?
So the ceo can make more money probably
I just use the free version. It’s a pain in the ass, but I’ll deal. I wanted to go on the duo with my boyfriend, but he’s grandfathered into a deal where we get Hulu for free and since I use Hulu all the time, I don’t want to give that up.

Wait I also have that Hulu deal. Are you saying that’s not a thing anymore?? I had no idea
I have no clue honestly, I got it as a college student and assumed it would go away when I couldn’t verify my student email anymore but it’s still going strong so I don’t ask any questions lol my partner also wanted to get the duo deal but I think that would mean giving up Hulu

I just want to resume listening to an album where I left off without having to restart it because the rest of the album disappeared from the queue.
If you have android or a PC for spotify look up BlockTheSpot on XManager, it'll give you free premium. I use spotify all the time now because of it
Can you give the link to where you got it please ?
https://www.xmanagerapp.com/ for android You have to uninstall spotify first if you have it then download the latest version from the xmanager app, then you can sign in your account like normal on it after install.
We are just being squeezed from all sides aren’t we
How are they charging more and the app has gotten worse. I no longer use Spotify to discover music, I’m just too attached to my playlists.
I have loved finding new music with smart shuffle but all their shuffle functions have been exceptionally terrible the last few months. Either the function is totally broken or they are trying to push certain songs/artists because I keep getting the same songs "shuffled" in the same order.

That sounds like a lot of work for music nowadays though.
I'm back to radio already, lol. I just can't. Too many services- I'm only allowing myself 2 active ones at any given month.
Just use the free version
Don't actually like it. Radio is free, too
Isn’t the free platform just customized radio?
Ads seem worse and I like random

Why are these people trying so hard to steer you away from your preference lmao!
I recently redownloaded winamp lmao, I don't use my phone to listen to anything so it's me, my music, and my PC 4 lyf

And they probably aren’t paying the companies/artists more either
I still pay 5 euros for my account. If it will go to 12 euro, i'm going back to downloading from youtube.
How do you only pay 5 euro?!
I live in eastern europe and money have a different value here.
Yup, mine's 10лв per month.
i swear every subscription service is raising their prices every few months... and we never get better service out of it, the artists never see any of this extra money. it all goes to the corporate execs who don't do shit except open a spreadsheet every once in a while to make sure number go up. people are eventually gonna be priced out of this shit. i've already cancelled a lot of my streaming platforms.

They're about to lose me lol esp with Tidal's $4 student deal
So I get paid more as an artist now? Awesome! /s
Spotify with ads is fine by me... Sorry but that's expensive for streaming music🫠
And they still pay artist the least of the services. Never used Spotify, never will.
Still very much worth it
Agreed. Obviously I would always love to pay less money, but when you consider what you get for the price it's still far from being overpriced imo.
I agree, at least for me. I only have a couple other streaming services in addition to Spotify Premium (Hulu and Prime Video), so I’m okay with this increase (for now).
Guess I'll be dropping another service along with Adobe and Netflix.
Started a family YouTube Premium account and haven’t looked back. I get no YouTube ads and YouTube Music.
They just fucking raised it like 2 months ago right?
SpotX *Runs away*
I’m not surprised. I think it’s still a good deal esp with the access to audiobooks as well.
There are people who don’t make enough in an hour to pay for a month of streaming. Fix the system.
You think one hour of work should pay for unlimited access to any song you want for an entire month? Even $12 a month is still a great deal. I wouldn’t get through the workday without it.
Me with my grandfathered student Hulu/Spotify combo that’s been $9.99 for years now https://preview.redd.it/6hbk84vovd4d1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=277543a3a653bc3a85e370a63fc8ccb2e92a6952
They're going to cut you off soon. Happened to me.
I been cancelled Spotify. I’m a big YouTube guy, I watch a ton of YouTube, so I prefer to pay $19 to YouTube every month and just stream my music off of YouTube.
Doesn't youtube premium also include YouTube music
Fuck Spotify. Soon to be ex user.
Make it $20, that's their goal.
Thank god for the Hulu combo or I woulda been switched to Apple Music
Get Hoopla.
lol in India it's 119 rupees, which is approximately 1.43 dollars.
Yeah but then you’d have to live in India
I do, that's why I was telling about the difference
I know I was making a joke. I’d rather pay more for Spotify than live in India lol
I was in the beta years and years ago, then I paid for premium for a few years. Now I just pirate it (premium.)
I'm on a YouTube Premium trial right now and YouTube music is way less terrible than I remembered. Think I'm going stick with it when the trial is up and ditch Spotify.
Apple Music Stan’s RISE
This just in: xmanager still free
Just a reminder that it's really easy to install a cracked Spotify app with free premium. Just make sure you are downloading the API from a place with a good reputation. You will still see an ad now and then asking you to go to premium but you can just close it. Have been using Spotify premium without paying for over a year now.
I have radio with internet connection so I can listen a lot off music and talk radio around the globe. Good way to find new music.
I only use Spotify on my Google nest and when I hear the ads Pop I just yell at it to turn off 😆
Are there ANY other platforms that have: That sized library without any modifications to the original recordings? (Pitch tweaks) Cause I would definitely switch.
Dump it.

I'm stick with the commercials.
I have YouTube premium which gives me YouTube music which is far better than Spotify
And yet they’re still finding a way to pay artists less with this increase. They continue to devalue music
Any of this going to the artists?
wtf ive already been paying $11.99 for months
I don’t get why Spotify premium has adds in their podcasts. That annoys me.
Worth it to me. I definitely get my money's worth from podcasts alone.
Well with all that extra money maybe they can finally afford to fix their fucking shuffle function after all these years I've got playlists with 300+ songs and I hear the same 15 of them every time I get in the car. It's ridiculous
I just use the free version
Meanwhile Tidal cut the price of my subscription in half.
Probably unpopular but I’d still pay way more. You’re getting a lot of music for that price. Basically all of it
