Trust me when I say this: switch the location of the wall shelves and the metal shelves. You’re blocking a lot of your space by having the tall shelves up front. If you put the wall shelves there instead, you’ll have a lot more visibility and feel less cramped
Just nab an axe or two from the firehall and cut down a lot of trees.
It'll take you a few days, and cost you quite a few nails, but you can just build a car-width driveway of wooden planks up to the road and you'll be fine, even months and months and months down the line.
5-tiles wide should do fine, but if you want a little more room you can upgrade to 6-7. Good carpentry practice, too.
I've based up in those two houses before a couple dozen times, I like 'em a lot - though I usually use the other one down there, myself. I find its layout cozier, and the wider backyard is easily walled in to give yourself plenty of space to farm in the rear.
Nearly any space can end up functioning well as a base with enough work and love.
Go with your gut, but do keep a thought towards end-game. What will keep you occupied once the base is safe and stocked, and you're reasonably secured from zed activity?
Any base is a valid base, and nobody can tell you otherwise. Some may be better than others because if it works, it works.
Plus, the garage makes the base even more valid, especially because im an absolute car-nut in the game, and like to keep my cars in top condition.
There is a mod that allows you to add armour to vanilla/some mod cars, "standardised vehicle upgrades," if i remember correctly, allows you to add hood protection, roof racks, window protection, and wheel protection too
Just base wherever you want man, doesnt matter really. Can be any house in louisville even.
I like to make my base in either a high pop area with realistic Z respawn settings or low pop area with normal/high/low Z respawn settings
Dont forget that you can make this game what you want, and it's your story, i like to start as a nomad with an RV/bike. Remember, in this game you can fall and die because your character walked one extra pixel to the south
Take this opinion from my 1.2k hours in the game.
Any base is a valid base, and nobody can tell you otherwise. Some may be better than others, but if it works, it works, no matter how small, big, remote, or centralised it is.

If you survive living in a base, its a valid base- dont let anyone tell you you cant base where you want in a sandbox survival

This guy fang shoes.
I will try that out tomorrow thanks for the advice!
Be mindful that the road to that house will eventually be overgrown by trees and bushes, making access via vehicles... challenging.
You can find gravel bags if you really wanna go all the way and pave to the road, which might stop the trees.
Wait, the grass really grows with time? I know there’s the 10 years later mod or whatever, but I didn’t know this.
Yeah, grass/trees grow with time. That's the reason why some people put wood floors in the forest so, with time, they don't grow back
that’s a nice fact i didn’t know 😭

I heard u can modify ur cars? Im looking forward into that aswell 😓
There is a mod that allows you to add armour to vanilla/some mod cars, "standardised vehicle upgrades," if i remember correctly, allows you to add hood protection, roof racks, window protection, and wheel protection too
that does sound sweet! does it affect visibility if u put something infront of the car or at the side/back?
Nope, it doesn't. It just simply protects the affected parts that it's attached to
sounds good, i will totally check it out thank you <33
Would also recommend "filibuster rhymes used cars" mod too. i believe theres another mod for armouring them up aswell

It’s your home, if you like it then good, don’t let others rain on your parade for not choosing a Mets location
Buddy your character is MISERABLE! EAT SOMETHING! READ A BOOK! The base is fine but your character is STRUGGLIN
OMG YES WHEN I DID SCREENSHOTS I WAS LIKE „DAMN I KNOW WHAT IM GOING TO DO NEXT TOMORROW „ 😫
