If the artist is happy with their art, then it's a good drawing. Art is subjective, and while there are styles and archetypes that tend to be popular, at the end of the day it all boils down to personal opinion. If you're looking for tips to draw proots, or art in general, I'd say start with learning anatomy, and don't be afraid to use references - even other art. I reference other artists' work often, especially if they have a coloring technique or pose that catches my eye. (Side note: **always credit the art/artist you referenced**, especially if your final piece bears a lot of similarities to the ref).

I like this answer.

Im never happy with how anything i make turns out somethings always wrong Doesnt help i got kicked out my art class becauee i didnt meet the teachees minimum requirement of skill. So i just watch peoples do cool art now

Ebolaplushie

That's valid too. Most artists, myself included, don't really like their work. Or not all of it. As the creator, you will *always* find problems in your piece. Without fail. Because *you* created it, you alone know the vision you wanted, so you will see where you "fell short" of the vision in your mind. But that doesn't mean in reality it's objectively "bad" art. Artists are notoriously their own worst critics. Honestly imo there's no such thing as "bad" art, so long as the artist *wants* to draw and is passionate about it (excluding obviously vile crap like bigoted/nazi "art"). A lot of being "happy" with your final piece is acceptance of the flaws in it, and a desire to learn and improve from those flaws. Sometimes, you may be *only* person who sees flaws in your art. It's also valid to feel art is not something you wish to pursue, for whatever reason. Personally I say keep trying, even if it's just fun lil doodles for yourself, but I *completely* understand the frustration at one's own skill level.

Ok-Section1709

THEY MUST BE FUCKING FLUFFY

Stonecargo69420

Finally a *correct* answer in all these "do what you like" ones

Blue_Dragon0920

If an artist likes what they has drawn, then the opinion of others is not important.

Stonecargo69420

Well whatever makes a normal drawing good makes a proto drawing good. Personally I like it when they are designed with purpose, given traits or modifications to do something specific. It's cool and unique

ReaperLeviathan477

it looks good

[deleted]

Depth to the drawing, shadows, I guess

Ducky237

Obviously not having this doesn’t make an art piece bad, but I really like when you can see the lil dots of light that make up the shapes in the visor.

TheEnderKnight935

It’s good if you know you tried. Art’s quality is and always will be subjective.

Scwambled_Eggs

The drawing contains a protogen /j In seriousness, if the art style is appealing that's good enough for me lol

succme69420666

Actually good character design, I know I'm gonna sound like an ass for saying it like this, but I just don't like the way a LOT of sonas look. Not even in the sense that the art is bad, just that a lot of people's characters have nothing really interesting or distinctive about them. Protogens are cool and all but they all look alike with very few exceptions. I love seeing protogens with interesting and unique features, I love seeing gadgets built into the body, I love seeing a character that someone clearly poured their heart and soul into. I love digging into their lore. So honestly, I just like when someone treats their character like they're from a book, giving them interesting features that connect to their history, and actual personality.

Fixingsentries

Protogen

I_fixed_the_piano

when boop da proot

Radsause1234

*paws*

HorizonSniper

Good, straight lines. That's it.

aallfik11

Well, there are two things that constitute a good drawing imo. First is the subject of the drawing, if the protogen's color palette and design are, to put it bluntly, ugly, then even the best artist won't make them very appealing to look at. Second, the technique. If your art is clean (kinda hard to classify it really, but I hope you get the idea) then it will definitely look better than art with incosistent perspective, unintended crooked lines etc. Note that this is my opinion, someone might legitimately like the way 4 year old children draw and that's fine, too

EpicCheeto

It resembles a protogen

g00nymcg00n

If it’s a protogen I think it drastically increases the chances

ElijahM_Draws_Stuf

Well, I'm currently playing portal 1&2 for the first time, so Apeture protogen (with turret guns included)

Select-Bunch3820

As an artist I think it’s important the artist is happy with there work things that can help improve are proper anatomy shading small details like fluf and stuff

Vu_Yami

Charming_Sky9445

idk

AriesTheStarGod

When they are drawn by a person :3

BadgerBoy2016

I tend to prefer protogen designs that have clothes on and/or are wearing military gear/armor. I also prefer protogens that are cool badasses as aposed to those that are cute. That being said, that’s just my subjective opinion and any artwork that the artist enjoys making is nice. (Unless it’s lewd or fetishized which in that case no thanks)

Limeelight664

How would you fetishzise clothing? Just asking how you would come up with the idea it's possible

BadgerBoy2016

I was referring to any protogen design that are/could be fetishized rather than the clothing.

Limeelight664

Oh, I see. The way you phrased it made me think clothings and amour. Thanks for clarifying

BadgerBoy2016

You’re welcome!
