Time Splitters, though 2 and 3 are BC on Xbox. But within the PS family, they are only on PS2. TS1 is absolutely hostage to PS2.
The Getaway is really good actually. I just played it on my PS2 and am going to start Black Monday.
I also love Mashed which I think is also hostage to PS2.
Gregory Horror Show was another fave I think is only on PS2
What is new about it? They’ve had PS2 games for a while as part of the Classics Catalog. I thought these were just the same except that Sony was just focused on adding more this year (which is nice). It’s not new though to my knowledge.
Not really sure how else to explain the meaning of "new" here to be honest.
Does this maybe help?
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2024/05/new-ps2-emulator-appears-to-be-imminent-on-ps5-ps4
Hmm interesting. Yeah I guess the filters, quick save and rewind are the enhancements you are referring to. I doubt the emulation tech is any different. But I didn’t know there were those enhancements. Good they are catching up with the other emulators out in the world! I wonder what it takes to bring out a game since they are already playable on other emulators. Probably licensing is the hardest part.
Well if you look at the deep dives of it you can see it is different emulation tech. Sadly it's still not a great attempt from Sony. I hope TS1 comes out in a better condition since I've had a blast in recent years playing TS2/3 on Wii U and Xbox Series X.
Yeah the BC versions of TS2 and FP on Xbox One and Series are excellent. I’ve seen the legend game play video and it doesn’t look great. The PS3 HD remaster trilogy is a much better way to play. Or play on PC. Feels odd to release the PS2 version and not the HD PS3 version.
After the PS1 classic I think we should've made peace with Sony taking the path of least resistance. If Mark Cerny however is personally working on the rumoured PS3 backwards compatibility though, I think we have something to look forward to.

Would *Steambot Chronicles* count?
There was a sequel in development that was originally going to be for the PS2 as well but got pushed back to the PS3 and eventually cancelled.
Eh. I played through about half the game recently and it's okay, but it's just really janky and the AI is bad. It's frustrating to be on the same mission for 15 minutes driving from one side of the map to another, and then have your partner jump out of the car for no reason and get killed by the cops, which means restarting the mission when it wasn't my fault. I quit the game after that.
To my knowledge you can only play the “definitive” versions on modern consoles as well. I had SA on Xbox one but it won’t let me launch it anymore because it isn’t the “definitive” version
Steambot chronicles! The devs were heavily affected by the 2011 tsunami in Japan and scrapped their gaming division. The game itself never got a port to anything else, and even emulators for it suck last I tried. Although it did have a single spin-off game but it's not even close to the game itself and just an arena fighter
As far as "popular" games on the PS2 are concerned, all of them are pretty much on other systems. I don't think there is an MGS4 and Bloodborne situation with the PS2. Cult classics is a different story but almost if not every system has that. Looking up this list, I'm not sure how many of these games are any good or worth playing:
[https://howlongtobeat.com/user/R2D21999/lists/20823/%5BExclusives%5D-PlayStation-2-True-Exclusives](https://howlongtobeat.com/user/R2D21999/lists/20823/%5BExclusives%5D-PlayStation-2-True-Exclusives)
Ace Combat and the Armored Core games, maybe? Never played those and those are cult games, not popular or mainstream. Ape Escape 3 and some of the SOCOM games is probably the best of the bunch that I played. I guess that will be my answer even though both are cult classics and not mainstream.
A new (slightly faster) King's Field would be awesome
The Getaway as you said.
I also think the PSP has this same problem but at least Sony seems to be working on it, hopefully they do the same with PS2 ip.
Dark Cloud and maybe that Shadow Hearts game (I think it’s called that).
Dark Cloud is playable on PS4/5
Oh ok. I couldn’t remember.
So is Bloodborne @ OP
Makes me sad Shadow Hearts is so expensive now
Xenosaga Trilogy
And it's really good! I own the trilogy, but would sure love to play on a modern system.
Metal Saga, Steambot Chronicles and Raw Danger! are my favorites.
Steambot and Raw Danger! Ees <3
God Hand counts ?
It’s available on the ps3 store as ps2 classic for the ps3 only. It’s not available for ps4/5
its playable on PS3
Enthusia Professional Racing.
You are good taste incarnate.

Isn't Time Splitters also on Gamecube?
I thought TS1 was only on PS2.
Never mind, you're right.
What is TS1?
Time Splitters 1
Based on recent ratings, it looks like Timesplitters is coming to the new PS2 emulator of Sony.
What does ‘new emulator’ mean? Do you really simply mean the Classics Catalog?
Nah, I mean the new one with the extra bells and whistles that started with Tomb Raider, Sly Cooper and Star Wars.
What is new about it? They’ve had PS2 games for a while as part of the Classics Catalog. I thought these were just the same except that Sony was just focused on adding more this year (which is nice). It’s not new though to my knowledge.

i prefer map of 1 over 2 and controls of 2. but both could have beem better since theres not much interaction between player and maps.
Echo Night Beyond, 7 Armored Core games, Shadow Tower Abyss, King's Field IV, Clock Tower 3, Rule of Rose, Kuon, Another Century's Episode trlogy, Yoshitsune Eiyudeen, Onimusha 2, Blade Warriors & Dawn of dreams, Suikoden V, Forbidden Siren 2, Wild Arms 4, 5 & Alter Code F, Urban Reign, Disaster Report, Raw Danger, Way of the Samurai 1 & 2, Samurai Western, Shinning Force Neo, Exa & Shinning Tears, Phase Paradox, The Tayrou Jigoku, Thunder Force VI, 10000 Bullets, Shadow of Destiny, Ridge Racer V, Cho Aniki Seinaru Protein Densetsu, Altered Beast, Gregory Horror Show, Wipeout Fusion, Golden Knight Garo, Inital D Special Stage, Silpheed Lost Planet, .Hack quadrilogy, Blood Will Tell, Steambot Chronicles, Xenosaga Trilogy, Evergrace, Forever Kingdom, Drakengard 1 & 2, Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, Grandia Xtreme, Lifeline, Galerians Ash, Resident Evil Outbreak 1 & 2, Dead Aim & Survivor 2, Spy Fiction, Finny the Fish, Sky Gunner, Crimson Tears, Samurai Champloo Sidetracked and many more.
Nice list! Shadow of Destiny is on Xbox, PSP and PC. RE: Survivor 2 is a port from the arcade, but good luck finding a machine of that godawful game.
Way of the Samurai 1 & 2 had PSP ports
Dogs life
Kings field ancient city is ps2 only and the last kings field released
DBZ Infinite World
The Bouncer!!! First PS2 we owned and played through it so many times. Lots of great memories.

The First ones that come to my mind are Evergrace and ITS sequel Forever Kingdom, as far as I know they are PS2 exclusive
Would *Steambot Chronicles* count? There was a sequel in development that was originally going to be for the PS2 as well but got pushed back to the PS3 and eventually cancelled.
Shadow of Rome? Onimusha 2 and 3? Zone of the enders 1?
Zone of the Enders got an HD re-release and it's backwards compatible on Xbox.
Most of the anime games would be eligible: Yu-Gi-Oh Capsule Monster Coliseum, Yu-Gi-Oh GX Tag Force Evolution come to mind.
Stuntman 2002 is completely stuck on PS2 since it isn't even emulatable due to its heavy reliance on floating points iirc.
The Getaway was my answer

Rocket Power: Beach Bandits Champions of Norath
Honorable mention is GTA3. Until 04 I believe it was only on PS2. Think it was the same for VC.

Bruh that sucks given how awful the definitive edition is
Suikodens?

Urban Chaos Riot Response Edit: Shadow Tower Abyss
The Punisher game and one of the good Spiderman games, could be Ultimate Spiderman or Spiderman 2, up to you
Stuntman

Does Michigan: Report from Hell count? Its not good but also a game worth playing at the same time.
Neo Contra!
A new (slightly faster) King's Field would be awesome The Getaway as you said. I also think the PSP has this same problem but at least Sony seems to be working on it, hopefully they do the same with PS2 ip.

Yugioh duelist of the roses.
Def Jam Vendetta, Def Jam Fight For NY, NBA Streets 1, 2, 3, Manhunt 1 & 2, Bully And the list goes on….
TMNT 2003. The arcade style beat ‘em’ up. Wish it came out on Steam.
Battle stadium DON was a Japan import that I was obsessed with, still go back and play that game every now and then .
