Yeah when I first read this it was just text and I was thinking that could be interpreted a lot of different ways. With video it's much less concerning.
People keep bringing up how we failed to give hank a cup. Hank’s rangers didnt make an ECF appearance until 2012, hanks 7th year. We made it in 2022 (2/3 years into igor’s nhl career), he knows hes gonna have a few more chances to bring a cup to MSG
You think the fans who chant your name are your ally? You merely adopted the chant. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t hear the chant until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding.
“igor, Igor, IGOR!”
Don made a solid point on the radio this week. If you're Drury you are doing everything in your power to extend him this summer - end of story. ~~Even if it means buying out the last year of his contract for $5.6M.~~ He is the cornerstone of this franchise and the longer we wait into next season the dicier this situation can become
Don may not have realized that you can’t “rework” an existing contract like you can in some other sports.
The best you can do is add an extension, but the original deal has to play itself out.
Signing this guy for only 4 years was one of the worst decisions we’ve made in recent memory. He was obviously going to be the guy going forward. Hart nominee and Vezina in his first year on the new contract. Best playoff goalie every year. We should have this guy locked up at 7M and instead he’ll be paid over 10M.
That wasn't in the Rangers control. Pretty sure Igor and his agent wanted the 4 years strategically to line up with the COVID cap cost recoup. Now the big contract will line up with the largest cap increase we've seen in years.
not worried about him resigning. The thing people are overlooking when wanting to blow up the team is that when that happens next year, it's going to be at like $10-11m/yr
This team isn't getting a high end UFA RW.
Even if you get rid of Trouba's deal somehow, you're still resigning Lindgren, Gus, and Schneider this year. The increase on all 3 of those is going to eat most of that savings.
He meant this as a joke.
If we can pay him, I don't see him leaving. The Rangers org has rolled out the red carpet for him since he first got here. Besides, Igor grew up in Moscow. He's used to the city life and the comforts/conveniences that come with it. NYC is the greatest city in America, so if there's a viable option to stay here, he's not gonna go to some place that's a hick town by comparison.
For perspective, my brother and his family lived in Moscow up until two years ago. They moved back to the states and got a place in some suburb outside Atlanta. They've been going kinda crazy there because everything closes no later than 8pm, there's not much to do even when things are open, and everyone knows each other so there's always some kind of drama. They're looking into getting a place in NYC or North Jersey when his son finishes up elementary school.
Give him the same contract as his buddy on the islanders. Tell him that you don’t want to create tension between them by giving him more. I think paying goalies massive amounts is a terrible formula to win it all. That being said, Igor seems like that extremely rare breed that might be worth it. I just hope it takes some kind of discount understanding that if he wants to win it all they can use the extra funds for the forward and D corps.
He also laughed while saying this btw. The actual video is less concerning than this post implies

Igor’s “I don’t speak English” response for every question he doesn’t want to answer gets me every time lol
Truly the NHLs version of the famous Lynch quotes of the NFL, "just here so I don't get fined"
He’ll play his whole career in New York and I don’t want to hear anything else even if it isn’t true. Igor is a lifer goddamnit

No one cared who he was until he put on the mask.

They can’t buy out the last year of his contract. Teams can’t resign a player they buy out for one calendar year.
Thank you for clarifying - I must have misheard

Agreed and unlike with Hank when we pretty much knew what we had in the wings, we don’t have that if Igor were to leave
They can’t buy out his contract and then sign him
Imagine he won a cup next year that 12 becomes a 14 m real quick
I'm just here so I won't get fined
Ha. That’s Russian for fuck you guys.
This is the equivalent of Ichiro refusing to answer questions in English even though everyone knew he could speak it just fine. No big deal.

I dont speak english and Cheep stuff from amazon are only 2 lines that Shesty knows :D
Oh boy... Could easily fetch $10.5-$12M. I hope he's a fan of family friendly deals and considers us family lol.
I wouldn't be based on how the team let him down lol
In this case it was him saying, "Fuck Off Brooks!!!*

Damn, Igor is just like me. Whenever promoters come up tryna sell me shit, I just hit the 英語わかりません
He's just here so he doesn't get fined
Big Marshawn Lynch energy. Stay with NYR, Igor, please.
