As someone who adores Scotty I feel so happy for him. Yea he's limited, but he'd be a fantastic squad player under the Gaffer. He's United through and through, popping up with goals all season this year!
If he'd been born in 1982 he'd have been unquestionably a one club player, acting as the glue in a title winning team.
Making 30 appearances a season, maybe 10 starts, popping up with big goals in big moments, coming off the bench to shake things up in CL semi finals, etc.
Almost feel sorry for him, born a decade too late and either expected to be the best player in the squad (which he will never be), or seeing his good qualities lost in the ocean of mediocrity that is today's United
He’s also being used properly for the first time, as a more advanced midfielder crashing into the box. He’s not and never has been a CDM despite how often he’s been deployed there.
To be fair, we're reduced to playing a heavily one footed squad player level player out on the left, which constantly slows down the play or forces us back into traffic.
And Wan Bissaka
So painful watching AWB constantly refusing to overlap and always passing backwards. Sure he's a top tier tackler but never a United full back in my view.
Dalot is the polar opposite, always busting a gut and trying to create.
> Dalot is the polar opposite, always busting a gut and trying to create.
That's the point, one fullback pushes on whilst one drops. It was the opposite against Liverpool.
When the midfielders push forward you don't want both fullbacks doing the same.
I think that was intentional tbf, took the sting out the game and shut their fans up.
Waited patiently for opportunities and took them.
Pretty professional performance so far.
Good first half performance imo. Dominated the ball, have had to be patient with their defensive block but played well. Coventry have been quite poor.
Casemiro has looked comfortable at centre half which is good to see, looks very composed and natural.
Coventry have really disappointed, you'd think they'd make the most of our weaknesses but instead they're happy to sit back and wait for a break. Not complaining of course but we're the one top club that a team shouldn't be sitting back against lmao
It was nothing like a good first half performance unless standards really are through the floor. Toothless, slow, boring, dull performance against a Championship side. One good goal and a set piece goal doesn't mean the overall performance was good.
I haven't been this bored since the LVG era.
It is a cup semi final. Knockout matches at this stage are usually cagey affairs and, against lower league sides, it can sometimes be tricky because they will play the match like their lives depend on it. To put in a professional performance and control the game in such a way that the opposition is barely a threat is very much a good thing.
Again, you are being ridiculous.
So? Maybe if we didn't look awful week in week out it'd be easier to accept this rubbish but it's not a one off, it's the same old toothless Ten Hags united
You need to get some perspective because you sorely lack it. You’re easily more miserable than 99% of these Coventry fans are even though their team is losing and your team is about to be in another cup final. Like…do you not understand how spoiled and entitled you sound?
I think it's you who needs perspective, being 7th in the league and playing terribly football weekly is cause to be miserable about the team, then when they turned up and have a first half like that it's more cause for misery about the state of the club. Brilliant, we get to go get mauled by City in the final. I am entitled, I'm entitled to good football, but I'm not getting it.
😂 you’re an embarrassing excuse of a “fan.” No doubt you’ll be excitedly pulling up Reddit to send me another comment if we lose. Willfully miserable and happy to have any reason to tell yourself that you are correct for being miserable.
Cant imagine watching football with your attitude
At a guess its because Dalot is stronger on his right foot than AWB is so may as well capitalise on that, but yes it does mean our left side is much weaker.
Our first goal comes from an overlapping run and cross from Dalot. Rashford has very few options on the opposite end with AWB just sitting on his inverted position. The setup is basically asking him to take on defenders and be direct, maybe he could be doing more on the few times he has dribbled into the box successfully, but it's not the easiest task.
Sometimes Mainoo / McTominay make runs out wide, but they come from central areas which is easier for Coventry to track. Direct wingers just aren't very good when the defense can stay compact because no one is making runs in wide channels.
Props to Casemiro. He's actually playing well as a defender. Surprisingly composed. Also per usual, Dalot with the vital defending. That's our player of the season
Surprised with the tactics from Coventry two inform strikers, we are known for giving up a lot of chances but they decided to sit in and hope for a counter
His defensive speed is good too, the way he stopped two counters just by running past them and taking the ball.
Can't wait for next season if we reinforce the team properly to support him.
The pace of the game has been the biggest difference. I wouldn’t say this because we’re playing Cov, because even against Newport or Luton or other teams that sat back deep, we still tried to play suicide ball. This is the first time I’ve seen the team try to control the pace of the game hahah
Yeah, he's been underwhelming. Receive ball, stop, pass back back. Or; run at/into defender and shoot at/into defender.
Would rather see Amad and give Rash a rest.
I put a quid on [900/1](https://imgur.com/a/5Y7Owmy) odds rashford 3 shots on target and 3 fouls committed and won. Might as well have thrown a coin out the window lol
But the odds speak for themselves eh
He has very distinctive gears when he plays and he's definitely on the pass first type of gear, frustrating when we've seen him dribble past their players a couple of times
Casemiro would actually make a pretty good RCB given he's supreme in the air & won't lose a physical battle. Also means there's less ground for him to cover.
My god the people complaining about the pace of the game while being 2-0 up in an FA cup semi-final...
Trying to play a high intensity, high paced game will work directly into their hands. We need to keep possession, not let them get a sniff and basically suffocate them, which is exactly what we're doing. We're in complete control, good plan and well executed.
Tidy performance. Controlling possession so it’s less of a basketball game, and even when we lose possession we’re working to win it back early.
More tempo would be nice moving the ball quicker, but I’m content overall
2 Comments:
Garnacho’s been crossing the ball a lot lately. That’s a good thing, and I’ve noticed he’s done it more in recent weeks.
We’re playing well, and I’m all for it.
Doesn’t matter if this is a Coventry of the Championship, our players could do with the confidence off a big win (3-0 or 4-0….)
GGMU :D
Wish we were playing 17y/o Harry Amass instead tbh. I hate playing seniors out of position when we have youths that would die for the team on the pitch if they get a chance.. Not to mention the experience and growth from playing matches at this level.
Maybe it's a bad idea in such an important match but still.. playing Dalot & AWB on the left is worse imo.
Good all round. A bit damp down the left because Wan Bissaka just does not do anything in an attacking sense down there, but everyone’s doing well. Keeping the ball sometimes is just a really good idea. Really good, composed performance so far, much less of this ADHD football we’ve been playing all season.
Positives: 2 goals will be hard for Coventry to overcome. McTominay is looking for the ball. Casimero is using his experience to defend well
Negatives: Our left side is where the play goes to die. We're lucky not to have conceded thanks to a great last ditch tackle by Dalot. If Coventry had ever so slightly more quality they'd prob have scored against us on the break.
They only got through twice, but my heart stopped beating in those occasions. That gap in midfield when they broke our press was the stuff of nightmares.
You would think we’re playing terrible the way people are reacting.
Everyone wants a comfortable win where we dominate possession but can’t be patient when it happens. That was a perfect half outside of the one counter Coventry had. More of that we’re comfortably into the final.
This is our football from last season, struggling against low blocks due to lack of creativity.
We have it easy today because our individual qualities are better and Coventry isn’t pressing hard.
Being one of those who gave Mcguire the middle finger for refusing to leave during his bad spell, I must confess that the guy has been nothing but a true pro since -- from losing captaincy to gaining back manager's trust. I'm glad he didn't give up on himself.
It's just too easy.
The crazy thing is that this is maybe just the 3rd time I see United playing so relaxed and comfortable this season.
I am glad for the result and the performance, but we all knew Coventry wouldn't really present a challenge. The difference in the squad is just too huge. This is over already unless United perform another implosion act in the 2nd half.
Matches against Premier League teams have been scrappy all the time. This is the level we are at atm under Ten Hag and this crop of players.
I wonder if we have any chance against City in the final with ETH's tactics and the group of players available? I feel it will be another final where we will be just spectators. Have you seen what Real had to do to beat them in the UCL? It was a heroic display that lasted 120mins. We don't have that kind of defensive resilience as we have demonstrated against most of Premier League sides this season.
Shit half? Wtf. We pretty much created all the chances, and played most of the half in their half. The fuck are you watching? You clearly have no idea how well Coventry doing or their game against Wolves.
These lot man... It's never good enough. If this was City playing that half we'd all be saying it was a typical City half. Yeah, boring and pragmatic, but they suffocate their opponent like we're doing to Coventry right now.
We play like shit but it’s end to end, “why are we playing like this, slow the game down control it”
We are comfortably winning in a boring game, “nah mate this is boring.”
It’s comments like this that do my head in.
Is it normal for Maguire to have to take a few touches before passing through midfield? He seems to be staring in the same direction (as opposed to scanning the field) all the while for a few touches before making that exact pass, usually succeeding. I’m not singling him out for criticism, but just wondering whether this is a sign that the whole team is unsure about how to play in that setup.
He always does that. He's really slow and ponderous on the ball, though admittedly can sometimes be quite progressive with his pass when he finally makes one
Really liking how slow we’re playing it. Bruno and Maguire have been dictating play well, Garnacho and Dalot are a brilliant combination on the right. Been saying it for weeks but Dalot is defo our best player this season, so consistent
Rashford’s doing well, Garnacho too, Dalot has been excellent, and Casemiro has been great. He ticks a lot of boxes as a centre back, he comes out, he’s aggressive, he can pass, he’s a bit more rapid than Varane, Maguire, Evans, Lindelof. And excellent in the air too.
give it a rest. they’re playing with their entire team behind the ball—not much any team can do aside from patiently pass sideways and try to work openings.
Only because we hang onto the ball for ages before we play it forward, letting them get back in position. What do you mean give it a rest? We're supposed to just praise this dross?
Scott and Harry making it 2-0 at half time in the FA cup semi-final, like we all expected at the beginning of the season
"Wow they really improved West Ham fair play"
As someone who adores Scotty I feel so happy for him. Yea he's limited, but he'd be a fantastic squad player under the Gaffer. He's United through and through, popping up with goals all season this year!
If he'd been born in 1982 he'd have been unquestionably a one club player, acting as the glue in a title winning team. Meanwhile West Ham losing against Palace.
They couldn’t have done this at West Ham United!
They have would have beaten Bayer Neverlusen though!
West Ham looking really strong this season.
Same intensity as a training game, hopefully we step on it a bit in the 2nd half and score 5 or 6
Felt like a preseason game
Tbf, with two goals being scored this way, there's no incentive to rush. Not fun to watch, but it gets it done
Something needs to be done about the left side, nothings happening there.
To be fair, we're reduced to playing a heavily one footed squad player level player out on the left, which constantly slows down the play or forces us back into traffic. And Wan Bissaka
Vietnam flashbacks when teams purposely let AWB have the ball because he won't do jack shit
Apart from Rashford drawing the attention of 3 Coventry defenders every time he gets on the ball
😐
Lol
So painful watching AWB constantly refusing to overlap and always passing backwards. Sure he's a top tier tackler but never a United full back in my view. Dalot is the polar opposite, always busting a gut and trying to create.
AWB has no attacking sense what so ever..so as good as his tackling is, he is not a fullback we can rely on..
It's mad that he started out as a winger
Tbf, he’s playing out of position
> Dalot is the polar opposite, always busting a gut and trying to create. That's the point, one fullback pushes on whilst one drops. It was the opposite against Liverpool. When the midfielders push forward you don't want both fullbacks doing the same.
I think that was intentional tbf, took the sting out the game and shut their fans up. Waited patiently for opportunities and took them. Pretty professional performance so far.
This is the control EtH wants. We just have to get relegated first for the plan to succeed. Criminal not marking Slab on corners.
I’ve seen enough, we’re winning the league next season
You mean the treble
2 players who we were pissed to not have sold to west ham may be taking us to the final. Football innit
Part of the game innit
We were pissed because they were (and still are) shit. Two goals versus a mediocre championship club doesn't change anything.
Still are shit? Which one of the two?
What final?
Good first half performance imo. Dominated the ball, have had to be patient with their defensive block but played well. Coventry have been quite poor. Casemiro has looked comfortable at centre half which is good to see, looks very composed and natural.
Maybe Case should consider pulling a Fernandinho and focus on transforming into a CB
He likes slising a bit too much to be a CB. He'd get a red every 2 games
Does it mean Casimiro’s redemption CB arc for the rest of the season?
Yeah this has been decent. Can’t wait for everything to fuck up Edit. Turns out I could have waited
Are you joking? It wasn’t a thrilling half but it was extremely professional. We are cruising in an FA Cup semi final. You are being ridiculous
Do you watch football to be entertained or not? I'm not being ridiculous, it's turgid slow, boring, dull football
It is a cup semi final. Knockout matches at this stage are usually cagey affairs and, against lower league sides, it can sometimes be tricky because they will play the match like their lives depend on it. 👀👀
Notice the difference between when we attack down the right vs the left. AWB at lb is (obviously) just not it
he and rashford are both often very hesitant and slow to act, which kills momentum a lot of the time.
I like him as a player but yeah, he has 0 creativity, useless in attack.
No idea why Dalot hasn’t been on the left, he can use both feet
Why weaken both flanks? Better to play him in his best position & make do with AWB at LB than try average it out.
At a guess its because Dalot is stronger on his right foot than AWB is so may as well capitalise on that, but yes it does mean our left side is much weaker.
Because we have also established dalot to tug inside on buildup from the right.
Direct wingers just aren't very good when the defense can stay compact because no one is making runs in wide channels.
add to that that Rashford is the left winger as well. Shambles down that side
AWB just doesnt have any attacking sense..regarless of lb or rb
Harry and Scott. Two players who’ve gotten tons of flak from fans but always give their all. Proud of em
Win big so we can have a meme thread
Well, been a good half. Wish we attacked more from the right, with Dalot whose crossing has been on point this season.
Yep, the Rashford/AWB combo is, unsurprisingly, shit. And yet that's where most of our effort has been put in the first half
Props to Casemiro. He's actually playing well as a defender. Surprisingly composed. Also per usual, Dalot with the vital defending. That's our player of the season
100%
Surprised with the tactics from Coventry two inform strikers, we are known for giving up a lot of chances but they decided to sit in and hope for a counter
Well they have to come out and attack second half
Goof half more of this
Dalot.... ![gif](giphy|mdfPpglf2c0QxED151)
His defensive speed is good too, the way he stopped two counters just by running past them and taking the ball. Can't wait for next season if we reinforce the team properly to support him.
He’s been so good this season
Nothing mind boggling, but a professional display. Very happy with that after recent games.
The pace of the game has been the biggest difference. I wouldn’t say this because we’re playing Cov, because even against Newport or Luton or other teams that sat back deep, we still tried to play suicide ball. This is the first time I’ve seen the team try to control the pace of the game hahah
At this point when Rashford receives the ball I am like "And there ends the attack".
Yeah, he's been underwhelming. Receive ball, stop, pass back back. Or; run at/into defender and shoot at/into defender. Would rather see Amad and give Rash a rest.
One of the semi finals of all time
In total control and up 2-0. Hopefully, we add some more to get some of the academy lads on.
Rashford man 😒 doing nothing
Totally agree might as well get a chair 🪑 for him and sit on the pitch.
I put a quid on [900/1](https://imgur.com/a/5Y7Owmy) odds rashford 3 shots on target and 3 fouls committed and won. Might as well have thrown a coin out the window lol But the odds speak for themselves eh
He has very distinctive gears when he plays and he's definitely on the pass first type of gear, frustrating when we've seen him dribble past their players a couple of times
Good performance. You can only beat what's in front of you so please, no negativity atleast for today.
We're right on course to win the World Cup at this rate.
Very nice. Now please don't freak out and go full hollywood FC in the 2nd half.
I fucking knew it.
Well done mate
Coventry have been making it easy for us thus far tbh. Casemiro playing better out of position than in midfield. Dalot massive.
Casemiro would actually make a pretty good RCB given he's supreme in the air & won't lose a physical battle. Also means there's less ground for him to cover.
Nice to watch a half of football without having an aneurysm
Not too shabby but Rashford can’t whip a cross for life
It’s not that he can’t, it’s that he won’t.
Keep disrespecting McSauce you weridos. The kid continues to deliver.
Let's just compromise and call him a productive donkey. Today's Fellaini.
A pile of gravel has more imagination than a wing comprising Rashford and Wan Bissaka
Bitching about every little thing Rashy does is sure shot karma farming in the match thread at this point
I just upvoted so you can get your karma too :D
Huge thanks!
It’s embarrassing. Every time he touches the ball people are having a whinge.
Tidy performance. Controlling possession so it’s less of a basketball game, and even when we lose possession we’re working to win it back early. More tempo would be nice moving the ball quicker, but I’m content overall
Only let Coventry take one shot
Just don’t do that thing when you give up the lead in 3 minutes after the half.
2 Comments: Garnacho’s been crossing the ball a lot lately. That’s a good thing, and I’ve noticed he’s done it more in recent weeks. We’re playing well, and I’m all for it. Doesn’t matter if this is a Coventry of the Championship, our players could do with the confidence off a big win (3-0 or 4-0….) GGMU :D
professional performance so far
Finally we get a goal from trashford losing the ball, what's his success rate of dribbling the ball past a player it has to be shockingly low
Onana again… heavy mofo daoes not want to jump
[удалено]
what? he's literally overlapping with dalot
I love this club
Men in Blues we are coming.
We needed that. It had the makings of a game in which we get too comfortable, allow Covemtry back into, and then it turns into end to end chaos.
Funny how our goals aren't from our attacking players
Coventry are playing like they’re some team from the Championship against us.
Got so anxious waiting for the game, and I'm so glad we're not horsing around. Hope we go to win comfortably and go on to win the final.
Not having a proper left back it's killing us lol. Poor AWB, so many overlaps just to be ignored hahahaha.
Casimero is using his experience to defend well Negatives: Our left side is where the play goes to die. They only got through twice, but my heart stopped beating in those occasions. That gap in midfield when they broke our press was the stuff of nightmares.
Harry and Mctominay coming in clutch🫡!! Just ride out and get a professional win.
Now, since we swapping sides after half time, maybe rashford knows which way we are attacking
Case looks pretty good at CB.
Not sure what commentator it was but did anyone else hear - ‘The BIG head of Harry Maguire with a BIG goal for Manchester United. Hammerhead Harry’
I still don't think we're gonna manage a clean sheet
You would think we’re playing terrible the way people are reacting. Everyone wants a comfortable win where we dominate possession but can’t be patient when it happens. That was a perfect half outside of the one counter Coventry had. More of that we’re comfortably into the final.
What! You forget who we play next?
Into the final, not winning it!
![gif](giphy|t2sKa4JKNW9DawxAYi)
A couple more please so we can maybe see some youth debuts.
Coventry showing us way too much respect lmao
This is our football from last season, struggling against low blocks due to lack of creativity. We have it easy today because our individual qualities are better and Coventry isn’t pressing hard.
Boring to watch, but I get it. Obviously the slow play is working.
Being one of those who gave Mcguire the middle finger for refusing to leave during his bad spell, I must confess that the guy has been nothing but a true pro since -- from losing captaincy to gaining back manager's trust. I'm glad he didn't give up on himself.
Hope Amass and Amad gets 20-30 mins.
Build up is too slow man we gotta be quicker
It's just too easy. The crazy thing is that this is maybe just the 3rd time I see United playing so relaxed and comfortable this season. I am glad for the result and the performance, but we all knew Coventry wouldn't really present a challenge. The difference in the squad is just too huge. We don't have that kind of defensive resilience as we have demonstrated against most of Premier League sides this season.
Need to be focused and switched on 2nd half, get that 3rd goal and kill the game, give them zero encouragement.
The passing of the ball around is so lethargic man. Slow and pointless. Like no purpose.
Game feels joyless like we already know we’re gonna get fucked by the refs and lose again to Citeh in the final.
I'm only able to follow the match on the app. Can someone tell me how full the stadium is? Is it at least fuller than yesterday?
McT injured?
Shit half against a piss poor team, but one foot in the final. these replies lmao, that entertained you? Standards in the toilet kin ell
Shit half?
"suffocate" what kinda game are you lot watching????
Shit half? You can stop watching matches for a while instead of being this miserable.
We play like shit but it’s end to end, “why are we playing like this, slow the game down control it” We are comfortably winning in a boring game, “nah mate this is boring.” It’s comments like this that do my head in.
How are you not miserable watching this shite???
Generally yes, which is why the first half was good compared to most days.
Can't wait for the dodgy Foden pen in the final
Wasn't our only goal a dodgy pen last year?
With the way we’ve been playing City wont need to rely on a dodgy pen call. They will just play through us
Is it normal for Maguire to have to take a few touches before passing through midfield? He seems to be staring in the same direction (as opposed to scanning the field) all the while for a few touches before making that exact pass, usually succeeding. I’m not singling him out for criticism, but just wondering whether this is a sign that the whole team is unsure about how to play in that setup.
He’s also a right footed LCB which is always an awkward position
He always does that. He's really slow and ponderous on the ball, though admittedly can sometimes be quite progressive with his pass when he finally makes one
Really liking how slow we’re playing it. Bruno and Maguire have been dictating play well, Garnacho and Dalot are a brilliant combination on the right. Been saying it for weeks but Dalot is defo our best player this season, so consistent
Dalot has been improving season on season and still only 25. Peak to come!
coventry's wage bill is £190,385 per week...
Way too slow but I’ll take it
Think we’re only on top because our players are simply better, not tactical superiority
Decent half, not much to talk about.
What is Rashy doing
My apologies to AWB for doubting him. He's easily been our most creative player on the left side. Finish the job in the 2nd half
Not that hard to be honest, not much competition for Creativity in left side.
Rashford really is turning into ravel morrison
not even been that bad
Mind numbingly boring and reminiscent of the LVG era, I've never been less positive about being 2-0 up at half time.
I'll take this over the absolute dross we've had to endure lately.
give it a rest. they’re playing with their entire team behind the ball—not much any team can do aside from patiently pass sideways and try to work openings.
Only because we hang onto the ball for ages before we play it forward, letting them get back in position. What do you mean give it a rest? We're supposed to just praise this dross?
is there no space between “mind-numbingly boring…never been less positive” and praise? the only two options are “this is terrible” and “i love this”?
Yes, it's called decent first half we played well and looked good. But thats not what's happening so why the fake positivity?
alright, man, have fun being miserable and spreading negativity despite us being up 2-0
No one is having fun watching this
Waiting for us to implode
This team makes me hate watching football. That is all
