KrystianCCC

For 3 games a seaon like he did during BVB loan?

SatisfactionKooky435

In an ideal world, Sancho would be a good footballer.

systemcorp

Meh. One of the most overrated talents I've ever seen. In an ideal world we never sign him.

theplastic1

We should not be supposed to know who Mags Mernagh is... We're so massive

Significant_L0w

ready to commit all sins to have fit shaw, lisandro and de ligt next season for majority of the games

MitranjanK

Looks like Chelsea are getting Aaron Anselmino. Bit of a bummer, because we had been linked to him in the past. Fast, aggressive, superb on the ball, and every single Boca fan had said that he would go on to be a superstar.

_respired_

Not familiar with him. But I guess right now we're only beginning to establish our new recruitment team. So, we aren't going to make any smart moves like this for a while I'm afraid. Would love to be proven wrong, obviously.

astroworlddd

Going to be incredibly strange seeing Greenwood and Sancho back on Monday. Do you think we will just avoid posting pictures/clips of Mason until he leaves?

zcewaunt

You won't see them back though. lol

dispelthemyth

I’d imagine he will possibly get a 1 week+ extension on his holiday similar to those that get extended breaks for international tournament appearances.

EK077r

Sancho will be back training with the rest, I guess we might see Greenwood set on special fitness program or something

zcewaunt

There's no way he's back training with the rest. lol

Sheikhabusosa

Wasnt he training for months in secret? Theres a reason so many utd players are pally pally with him.

zcewaunt

No. With all the media coverage this club has, you would know.

Rig_7

Not at Carrington

KrystianCCC

Wonder if they are gonna "leak" Greenwoods footage to test the waters.

whiskeymagnet22

Transfer news has gone silent for a while Barely news about Ugarte and Zirkzee?

ptienduc

They’re both in their respective national camps and playing in international tournaments. Do you expect them to drop everything and come to Manchester to sign contracts ? patience mate !

whiskeymagnet22

Yes

dispelthemyth

Go pick them up then fella

whiskeymagnet22

If kimmich wants to leave why isn't united going for him? Last year of contract and he might not be playing well currently but absolutely world class and in a position we need

Rig_7

Have you been in a coma for the last 10 years?

ImNotMexican08

He’s not a dm. He may say he can play that role but he’s as good there as Trent is in midfield

ptienduc

Isn’t Casemiro supposed to be world-class too? we already have a declining world-class player in the same position and you want us to sign another one just like that ? think mate, think !

Significant_L0w

I thought kimmich was like 23-24 smh

zcewaunt

He looks it, doesn't he? Got that baby face.

Aadiunited7

Falk knows fuck all, but I wanna believe him when he says De Ligt has just told PSG and Liverpool to fuck off haha

rwallace_wong

Liverpool have 0 pull this summer 😂😂😂

FoldingBuck

De ligt won the league in his first seasons with ajax, juve, and bayern. Thats all

Rig_7

Cantona did it at Marseille, Leeds and Man Utd. I’m not saying the signing of De Ligt is the start of a particular era but…

ptienduc

I believe. Pool is going through a transition with a new manager. City stars are getting old and weary, maybe only Rodri and Foden would strike fear into the hearts of opposing teams (KdB, Walker and Silva are not what they used to be). Arsenal is… Arsenal. With 2 new CBs, another ST and DM… I fancy our chances.

FoldingBuck

I think these signings will improve our starting XI for sure but our squad depth which was our biggest concern last season due to our injury crisis is still an issue. Right now we are replacing players who will be on the way out or have already left (casemiro, varane, martial) but we still need to improve our bench or else we are a couple injuries away from the mess that was last season

ptienduc

Disagree. Last season was a freak season in terms of the amount of injuries and the concentration of those injuries on the defenders. Part of the reason was from the 60+ games we played in 22/23. We have appointed a new medical head and worked out the reasons for those injuries so i don’t think it will happen again to that extent. But yeah, Licha will still be crucial to us. If the new defenders can come in and do 80% of what he does for us, we’ll be golden.

FoldingBuck

I just feel that we need more than who were are linked to. Hopefully INEOS are filling the holes left from players who are leaving or have left and will move on to adding a bit of depth. 3 starters and 2 players for depth (preferably a lb and another midfielder) would be a good window for me.

rwallace_wong

Rumored that KDB and Ederson will be heading to Saudi this summer

Subtle_Omega

I mean those are literally the top clubs in their respective leagues

FoldingBuck

Some people take things way too seriously

kaholiic

I think we should go for Mats Wieffer, he's much more a possession based player than Ugarte. Think it could work for our midfield.

_respired_

Curious to know why you think Wieffer is better suited for possession.

Wahlrusberg

I could have sworn Max Kilman was like 22 lol Also TIL he's ethnically Ukrainian

NoJalapenol

Been saying for a while but this Ineos-ETH collaboration is just a marriage of convineince. This +1 extension is the final confirmation of that. They started talking to other managers around May 20th. Laurie Whitwell himself said they had "strong information" that ETH was getting sacked but after the final he wasn't. They then spent around 3 weeks to decide to keep him, talking to other managers during this time. And even after deciding to keep him they want to replace his coaches and change his contract. This last process alone has been going around for like 3 weeks and at the end of it they agreed to literally nothing. Same contract just activated his extension.

anonshe

It indeed is just that. They decided to sack him during the board meeting in Monaco before the FA Cup final according to Laurie. Obviously the Tier 1 who are so dependent on the club for briefs wouldn't risk their relationship to break it without INEOS' blessing hence why only Jacob Steinberg ran with the news. After the win they still went on to the point of discussing financial terms with Tuchel and De Zebri, and didn't speak to ETH for three whole weeks. If Tuchel had agreed terms, that would've been it so ETH staying is just a marriage of convenience. Usually such marriages don't last long enough or produce much success so let's hope this is the odd one out.

zcewaunt

Obviously it is, but I hope he can get the new owners on his side by playing fucking good play football.

NoJalapenol

The way to get them on his side was to accept the change in role. Clearly he does not agree with it and I wouldn't be surprised if they mutually parted ways next season. Right now Ineos couldn't get a new manager and there aren't many options for Ten Hag either if he leaves. Best for both to stay for a year.

Squareroot24

i know everyone slags r/soccer but atleast its decent I wouldnt wish my enemy to visit r/premierleague

Mesromith

Or worse… r/theother14

SOERERY

What’s particularly bad with that one is that it’s only Saudi fans and Villa fans complaining most of the time. Saudis got the richest owners in the league and their owners owns a literal football league and Aston Villa are spending more than every other top club in the top 5 leagues.

Squareroot24

Insane victim complex

KrystianCCC

Its fun when they engage in actual discusion about their players and teams. On r/soccer you cant have serious discussion about top club and players. Everything is banter and echo chamber.

UnablePeace

🚨PSG tried to speak to De Ligt’s agent and Bayern Munich but they were told the player only wants United and talks where stopped  [@cfbayern] EDIT MORE: - In the last 24 hours also Liverpool tried to hijack De Ligt deal to United but the agent told Liverpool the player only wants to speak to United - Deal advanced and there’s an agreement on payment of fee of £40m plus add ons - Negotiations continue on minor details

bvengers

Iffy source but I like it and I'm running with the agenda that he told Liverpool and PSG to pound sand

PoissonArrow91

never understood the meaning of this phrase "to pound sand" can anyone please explain?

bvengers

It denotes to engage in a pointless activity, like pounding sand. Used in context to say, you keep trying, nothing is going to happen.

PoissonArrow91

Thanks mate!

whiskeymagnet22

Source for Liverpool trying?

Mesromith

Who’s this from? As much as i like max kilman, if he’s going for 40 million we need to rap this up before bayern realise what a steal it is we’re getting

UnablePeace

ive quoted the journo..he's hit or miss to be honest but has broken some news before regarding bayern stuff so assumed it would be good to post it here

Mesromith

Ah that CFBayern. Fair enough

Wahlrusberg

Liverpool bit would be too funny but unfortunately Falk is a bit of a bullshitter

UnablePeace

lets just run the agenda 🤣

toddysimp

I hope this doesn't mean we have already agreed to a huge contract and agent commission.

UnablePeace

its actually the opposite, reports are that he's willing to take a paycut to come to us

toddysimp

I like to believe that but his agent is Raiola's heir.

sandboxsuri

This might be a dumb question, but I’ve never seen any other club getting written about so much about executive hires. I get sporting director and CEO, but like there’s positions I never knew existed and then when we hire they’re written about. The scrutiny on this club is crazy

EduardMalinochka

I’d assume you’re not following other clubs as closely as us and would simply miss any news like that regarding other clubs. Highly doubt majority of rival fans pay attention to higher management rotation that going on with us. Expect Ahsworth, this deal really went loudly, because of Newcastle being pity.

KrystianCCC

Barcelona kinda gets as much coversge with its politics and election. Real Madrid probably would aswell if Perez didnt set up himself as lieteral dictator and followed that with 5 CL wind.

thehealthyeconomist

Max Killman to WHU for £40m according to Sky (D.Sheth). Perhaps sets a lower benchmark for Branthwaite?

iroiroiroiroiro

The problem is that Everton don't want to sell him, it's a bit as if Real Madrid tries to bid 50m for Mainoo as they hear our budget is tight. I don't think they will budge from their valuation.

Mt264

English tax would add another £5-10m, which sounds about right tbh Edit - I had no idea Kilman was English!

KrystianCCC

One of 19 other Premier League signes player. r/reddevils literaly everytime " "that player would suit us perfectly"

NoJalapenol

There's almost 700k people on this sub. You could post a similar comment about literally anything. Any player gets signed and you'd find people wanting him and you'd find people acting like he's a bum that we are lucky to avoid.  Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with people sharing their opinion about a player.

KrystianCCC

Feels like theres 30-60 in DD threads tho. It was a joke.

NoJalapenol

But that's what I'm saying, you could find 30-60 comments about almost anything on this sub. There's so many people.

Wahlrusberg

People are fairly understandably conditioned to think we're not making the right choices in the market, but at the same time people tend to get wayyy too adamant about specific players coming into the league being the next big thing that we are absolutely crazy to miss out on. Obviously sometimes they end up having had a good point, I mean people here wanted Palhinha and Guimaraes from Sporting and Lyon respectively, but then what about Soumare, Marc Roca, Sangare, Ndombele, Sander Berge etc...If you said "McTominay is probably a better/more useful/better suited player than him" around the time of their transfers to the prem you'd have gotten your digital head chopped off but it's probably true.

The_Meaty_Boosh

And they probably hadn't heard of them two days ago.

systemcorp

Really confusing why we're not going after Weiffer. For €30m it's very low risk and he absolutely fits the kind of profile we need. Especially when you compare him to Ugarte who we seem to want to force into a midfield with Bruno and Mainoo. We're sticking to our transfer policy of Dutch players and Ten Hag targets anyway. Might as well go for him. But maybe he's another Amrabat that looks great on paper.

SpecificDependent980

Hes much more of an 8 thaan Ugarte

systemcorp

He's much more capable of playing an 8 than Ugarte because he's much more capable on the ball. Ugarte does one thing very well and that's the only thing he can do. In terms of profile however I think Weiffer is a better fit. He's also strong in the air which is a major weakness for Ugarte and major weakness for us as well.

eClipseLJ

De Ligt back in full training with the Dutch NT today for those wondering after hearing the news last night. Whatever he felt yesterday was probably very minor.

zcewaunt

Heard he had a case of red devil fever.

KrystianCCC

Wont play any minute anyways probably

eClipseLJ

Probably not, unless something happens with De Vrij either injury or in need of some extra rest.

tungowiii

Looks like Brighton is getting Wieffer and Arsenal getting Calafiori with reasonable prices. I must say personally I wish we signed both

_respired_

Calafiori is a real disappointing one... If this Italian ends up settling well then that's a potential World Class player secured. Was gutter we missed out on Gabriel Magalhaes, this is even worse for me lol.

tungowiii

That, too. Those are names we should looking for more often

_respired_

I'm also wondering why he wasn't looked at more by other clubs. For me, he's the best/second best LCB in SerieA.

Remarkable-Stress284

Bois, is it weird that i feel optimistic for next season, barring injuries, our squad should be stacked next season with the arrival of zirkee, de ligt, ugarte and hopefully jarred. If mount, shaw, malacia and licha is able to play most of the game, we should be in a good spot right? And with the departure of casemiro, eriksen, lindelof/maguire(would keep), scott(40mil minimum), awb, donny, we could technically spend more no? Optimistic here but damn next season we could be cooking.

redwolfCR7

Why do we wanna sell McT? I think he is an invaluable squad player and doesn’t seem to throw a fit for playing time. We need more such players in the squad.

_respired_

He's a great plan b, he's a leader in the club and for his country, he's a crucial player for both right now. I really don't see a reason for us to sell him.

foampom

Idk about “cooking” but I think if all those things you say could happen do happen, then I’d fancy our chances at top 4. The quality in the league is ridiculously high at the moment so it won’t be easy.

toddysimp

I wouldn't really call our midfield stacked if we don't add another midfielder that can move the ball when Eriksen leaves tbh.

Wahlrusberg

I think fitness will really be the deciding factor For instance Shaw - Licha - De Ligt - Dalot is a backline you could see right up near the top of the table, but will we get a consistent run with that backline at all?

Remarkable-Stress284

But the thing is I wonder how is he going to fit mount, mainoo, bruno

_respired_

Don't think Mainoo has it in him to play #6 right now. I've been able to catch games where Ugarte has played and I don't think Mainoo can, or should, play in a role like that. I think as an 8, Mainoo can shine. But we need a DM to help give him that liberty to go forward that he needs.

XBillyBonesX

Ugarte (?), Mainoo, Bruno start. Mount will be used as a utility player. He will sub in for Mainoo, play RW, and start CAM when Bruno is rested. Casemiro, Eriksen, Mctominay, for rotation. I’m guessing one of Casemiro/Eriksen will leave.

Mt264

Usually with 2 on the pitch and one on the bench

ilegal89

After seeing him in the photoshoot of the new kit, I'm wondering. Is Malacia finally fit for the preseason?

vincentvega-_-

Ten Hag getting the +1 extension triggered from the previous contract pretty much confirms he still holds major influence in transfers. It also suggests that INEOS offered him a new contract and that he very likely was unwilling to cede control over many things. I’d imagine De Ligt is being heavily pushed by him. We’ve also been linked to Branthwaite, Ugarte, and Zirkzee. I’ve voiced my doubts over those potential signings because I think we can do better. And I’m sure Ten Hag is pushing for those players as well because, well, who else is doing it? Vivell and Ashworth literally just started their jobs.

prem_201

Having veto and having control over transfers are two different things. He might be pushing one target that's De Ligt but the rest are market opportunities, you're not getting a decent striker for €40M and Ugarte is not needed at PSG because the style they play is not his strong point. I doubt he even knows much about Branthwaite.

vincentvega-_-

We’ve notoriously pursued players he specifically wants because he has more than just a veto over transfers. You’re probably right though regarding Jarrad and Ugarte. Zirkzee might be all him tbh because it’s the kind of striker profile he always wanted. As for De Ligt, I don’t think we’d be in for him if Ten Hag never managed him. He’s a similar profile to Maguire, but slightly better and younger, so I’m not against the deal. I just think we need a defender with different attributes if we’re going to stick with Lisandro in the backline.

prem_201

If we pay something around £35M for De Ligt I wouldn't be mad, rumor is he's willing to take a wage cut as well and that would be easier to move if things don't workout. I don't know if Zirkzee is all ten hag or not, but a different profile striker who can start is necessary and I don't see how we can manage that with €40M. This is the one window, I'm fine with the targets considering the age and price (wage as well), we can flip them if it doesn't work out. Instead of being stuck with players like Vdb, Sancho etc Casemiro might bring some money in if Saudi come for him.

vincentvega-_-

Ya im sure INEOS are signing off on these players for a reason. De Ligt and Zirkzee may be Ten Hag targets, but they’re also good market opportunities and in the right age range.

toddysimp

Dan Sheldon of the athletic saying that Vivell would help with talent ID but most of that work must have already been completed right?

eClipseLJ

I think it's more on youth targets rather than the current first team needs.

anonris

Also sounds like he was signed as a short term consultant, may be to consult on the work already done and then some?

Comfortable_Plum8180

Next season's kit looks more and more beautiful the more I look at it. Those leaks really didn't do it justice.

MattSR30

I just left a comment on r/soccer making fun of Arsenal, and it’s funny how soft the Arsenal fans were responding. I made a joke about the fact that despite being shit we have two trophies more than Mighty Mikel’s Arsenal and they did not like it.

Book31415926

🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡

Far-Pineapple7113

Our fans for some reason celebrate mediocrity its not even mediocrity we just had our worst PL season ever ,struggled to score 60 goals in the league for 2 consecutive seasons and finished with negative GD but a flukey cup win somehow makes up for it

LupeShady

Well said. You're a breath of fresh air on this toxically positive sub.

Stynes

Look at the comment he's talking about, he's hardly celebrating mediocrity lad he's just taking the piss out of Arsenal lol

MattSR30

I feel like I’m talking to Eeyore

Stynes

Man's still upset Ineos didn't sack ETH.

MattSR30

It’s not really celebrating mediocrity to celebrate winning trophies, is it? I know we’re not Wigan, but do you think 12 years on Wigan fans care that they got relegated or do you think they care that they won the FA Cup? Ten years from now finishing 8th will be a footnote, in the same way that no one dwells on Moyes finishing 7th. We will remember beating City to win the FA Cup, though, and for Mainoo cementing himself on the biggest stage (I hope). If we can’t have fun taking the piss out of our rivals and celebrating our successes (even if they are currently few and far between) then what’s the point?

Far-Pineapple7113

The thing is more likely to be remembered from the last 2 season is probably us getting whacked 7-0 by City ,With our history an Energy drink cup and FA Cup aren't that memorable

MattSR30

Like how people remember getting battered 5-0 by Chelsea the year we won the league? Would you rather win the league in a season where we lose 5-0 to Liverpool, or do the double over Liverpool and end the season without silverware? Surely you don’t actually believe results have more staying power than trophies in a fanbase’s consciousness?

Far-Pineapple7113

Do you realise these examples have us winning the league at the end and not the FA Cup or an Energy drink cup?On top of that 7-0 are not as usual as 5-0 or a 4-0 scoreline

MattSR30

Just answer the question. The exact details are pedantry, the point is what we’re discussing. ‘Some bad scorelines & silverware’ or ‘good scorelines & no silverware’? In the context of our rivalry do you think Arsenal fans care about the 8-2 nearly as much as their three league titles, their invincible season, and being the only reason we didn’t win something like 10 of the first 15 Prem seasons? No one thinks our current situation is good enough, but at the end of the day trophies count a hell of a lot more than second place finishes do.

Far-Pineapple7113

No the exact details aren't pedantry ,League and CL wins are on a completely different tier compared to FA Cup wins and league cup ,I will take Arsenal's last 2 season over our the last 2 seasons every fucking time

MattSR30

Fair enough. I think in 10-20 years it won’t compare to having trophies, personally. I guess we just disagree. You mentioned a club with our history shouldn’t care about this, and I realise that’s actually what fuels my opinion too. ‘Remember that time we played good football under Arteta in the early 2020s’ doesn’t cut it for a club of their size, with their history. I much prefer ‘even when we were at our worst, we were still winning trophies.’

Nac224

Weiffer gone to Brighton for 24 million. They’re so lucky, literally the perfect DM. Busy off the ball and an absolute magician on the ball. Top player.

SpecificDependent980

Except not really a 6 as he's to progressive

Far-Pineapple7113

> hey’re so lucky, literally the perfect DM. Stop hyping up mediocre players from the dutch league ,Only 1 out of every 20 they export works out in a better league

Casual-Capybara

In the Premier League maybe yeah, transfers to Italy, France and Germany are generally pretty successful. And defensive players tend to do better than offensive ones

eClipseLJ

Curious how it will pan out, he didn't perform at all in the Dutch NT. Very shaky and looked uncomfortable, could be Koeman could be that's he's one of those system players that excell in certain environments. Will definitely keep an eye on him upcoming season.

tomshelby2

We have the likes of Ronaldo, Sanchez, Martial, Valencia, Young and more we never really get the chance to see much of Sanchez dribbling in united but during his period in barca and arsenal his dribbling skill is comparable to one of the best dribbler Hazard ( Low centre of Gravity, Ball shielding ) . although many argue that the best dribbler would be CR7, who leans to flair-ish and skillful similar to rashford and martial where they use stepovers and raw pace to beat the opponents. When it comes to overall who is the best dribbler of all time in the club? (Agile dribbling, Technical, Joga bonito)

toddysimp

Martial's style was the cleanest imo.

MitranjanK

Maradona good, Pele better, George Best.

akshatsood95

Now that EtH is staying, besides addressing the very obvious gap in midfield, he also needs to make sure Bruno is playing behind the striker, near and inside the box. You take our best attacker away from the area where he's most lethal, your tactics are absolutely stupid

MoparkZA

Been saying this all season. Bruno is not the guy we want progressing the ball in midfield, we want him as close to the box as possible to do his magic. I really hope we can find some way to integrate Mount into this team, he provides press resistance and energy in midfield, would love to see him next to Mainoo.

society0

Would love to see us try four in midfield with Bruno the highest of them, and Hojlund and Zirkzee up top. Something completely different for us when we need to change it up.

MitranjanK

What would you consider an adequate transfer fee for Greenwood? I'd say anywhere north of 30M with a sell-on clause and we should take it.

7akyr

[https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/j05zdl/post\_match\_thread\_brighton\_22\_manchester\_united/](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/j05zdl/post_match_thread_brighton_22_manchester_united/) Hahaha, I remembered turning off the TV after the whistle, then looked at my phone for the score again and just "3-2? TF is that?" lol

society0

Cantona had 150 G/A in 186 matches for us. Words can't describe the king's impact on the club.

KrystianCCC

Can you share source? I thought they didnt count assists in 90'

BartlebyFunion

He gave way to the swagger and arrogance that would define the club and its fans that came after. I really hate how divided we are now as a fambase and club.

society0

A decade of parasitic rat ownership will do that

Hollacaine

Every full season he played in England he won the league iirc

society0

And SAF didn't win it before, when he was banned, or after he left

MoparkZA

Pretty sure we've won titles after Cantona left lol

society0

Yeah but we didn't in the season before he was there, when he was banned, and in the season after he left. As was clearly the point of my comment as we obviously won titles after he left

cc0011

Your comment was horrendously worded...

society0

Yep it was. But it's pretty amazing that Cantona was a major factor in SAF winning the league or not for those seasons.

Wahlrusberg

Can't think of any mega-money signings that would be in the works for this summer. Clubs are looking pretty conscious of their finances and the regulations around it, and it seems standard procedure now for players to make sure they have a reasonable release clause put into their contract. Risk aversion is probably part of it too, I feel a year or two ago someone probably would have activated Joao Neves release clause or made an offer somewhere near it within a week of the window opening lol. That said Mbappe's "free" transfer had a 100m+ signing bonus lol

iroiroiroiroiro

I would not be surprised if PSG does a 100m+ signing with like Neves, or break the bank with Lamine.

burritolurker1616

I don’t doubt they could she’ll like 250 for Lamine, I just can’t see Barca, as broke as they are letting him go

MoparkZA

Think they're going for Kvara. Bastards...

eClipseLJ

It annoys me that so many clubs are doing this PSR dance at the moment selling youngsters for god knows how they got that value. Some interesting switches have happened lately.

Wahlrusberg

The Minteh one I get, that was actually probably even under market value for a talented 19 year old who had a g+a in the eredivise similar to Antony/more than Madueke for instance, and Brighton probably don't care about doing anyone any favours. But you're right there's been a lot of these ones where some kid goes for a fee that yes you could argue is appropriate market value but probably nobody was *actually* going to buy him for that if it wasn't for the express purpose of mutual PSR dodging. It's a bit like when Al-Newcastle sold ASM to themselves for 30m. Yes, that was arguably a pretty fair market price, but was anyone not owned by you actually going to make that offer for him?

KrystianCCC

Halland sining bonuses were higher than release clause City paid to Dortmund. Thats why I dont like disscusing just transfer fees.

KaitoAJ

Because it’s from the Sun, basically scum tier news.

KrystianCCC

Cause its from shit trier journalists. No reliable news are not allowed to stay. Thats what trier system is for. Just put them in transfer thread that exist for this reason.

kiss_my_abs

Thank you, i was genuinely asking.

society0

Rabiot bid is in. Lads buckle up for the best window in a decade. We're going shopping.

thedhoklamonger

Bid for a free agent?

HeavyHevonen

Who we put the bid into, he's a free agent

Subtle_Omega

A tier 99 source lmao

Wahlrusberg

It's a fake ITK called "Nick Semeraro" being boosted by aggregators who will post literally any source for engagement. Twitter was always bad but now it is an absolute cesspit of misinformation.

Football Manager

HtheGr8

Very hard to predict how to feel about next season. I have been ETH-out pretty much since we lost 7-0 to Liverpool. However, willing to give him another season due to a demonstrable ability to win trophies, an improved structure around the club and a lack of clearly better alternatives.  Cautiously optimistic about next season but also aware that for both Mourinho and Ole, the third season is when the wheels came off.  Hopeful that sticking with ETH now after a pretty awful season, and the changes to the management structure, will finally result in building squads based on club philosophy and playstyle rather than what each individual manager wants. Could this finally be the end of ten years of ragtag disjointed squads? I think we've had so many false dawns since Fergie left that it's hard for me to be too optimistic these days but certainly feels like the winds of change are blowing through Old Trafford.

MoparkZA

> I have been ETH-out pretty much since we lost 7-0 to Liverpool. You can't judge a manager based off one or two fluke results against one of the best teams in the league. And that result was a fluke. We almost beat them at Anfield this season with Evans at CB.

Eleven918

Somone correct me if I am wrong, if we were to fire Erik, we'd pay the remainder of his contract. But would we have paid for only 1 year had we not done this +1 extension but now we have to pay 2 if he gets fired a few months in?

unibalansa

The point of the extension is to show confidence in the manager. It is public knowledge that we were courting replacements at the back end of the season. This of course would have affected ETH’s confidence, the players’ confidence in him as well as shown a distrust from the new ownership in him. By triggering an extension, the club is saying that they are behind ETH and giving him the platform to succeed. Whether he does will remain to be seen, but this is basic contract management and you see the same thing with players approaching the final year of their contract that the club doesn’t want to be rid of just yet

Far-Pineapple7113

Yes but it was needed if we were keeping him for the coming season ,You can't just have a manager in the last year of his contract going into a new season,Only works for RM and they are a completely different case

SuperSalamander3244

He had a +1 so we should have waited until December to extend but the extension might have been because he had certain transfer clauses in his old contract.

Far-Pineapple7113

This isn't a new contract

KrystianCCC

He still is contracted under same concract he signed in Ragnick season.

SuperSalamander3244

You don’t need to negotiate if you’re triggering a clause in an existing contract.

KrystianCCC

Feels like they were negotiatin and didnt find agreement for new contract so just "pressed" +1

Lads United is in Roblox now

Saxena_priyansh2104

Eth renewed till 2026

ejtv

1 year extension only which means they want to see results this year.

BartlebyFunion

Well we already had a one plus one ready for him. If it was purely about results they would have left it at that and just extended if he impressed. I think this 2 years is a statement to the players as well that they are backing him and they support him and that the players have to get in line with that. But I imagine ETH knows in no uncertain terms he needs results this year.

Kohaku80

"Get in line or what?" Sancho 2025

BartlebyFunion

Sit on the bench and cry more

Kohaku80

We cry first if we can't sell him.

hickuain

That’s what I took from it too

Can’t believe Donny has been here four years already. Man must regret coming here but wonder if he would’ve struggled also if Madrid signed him.

toddysimp

I don't think he'd have worked there either to be honest but they would have sold him early before his value hit the bottom.

Former-Thing2528

I think he would have fared better in Madrid. The main problem with us was that he couldn't adjust to the physicality of the PL and he did not fit into the team naturally. He's not a Bruno like 10 who sprays passes but more of a hole player who plays clever 1-2s and combines with teammates near the opposition box to break defenses. And that was not what we needed at that time. La liga is less physically demanding plus Madrid had players who could progress the ball forward. So, he could have played in his preferred role in front of the box and combined with the class Madrid players to create chances in the box. Another example of poor recruitment under the Woodward administration smh.

MoparkZA

He's a luxury player you get when your system is up and running, not when you're still figuring your football out. Very poor signing.

Former-Thing2528

AFAIK Ole signed him only because he realized it was VDB or no one. Shows how shambolic the recruitment had been under the Woodward regime.

KrystianCCC

He would have fared better on Madrids bench. He is not good enough theres a reason they never really went for him.

ChatakaPataka

We probably regret buying him alot more than he regrets coming here. He hasn't done enough to even warrant being a good squad player here under 3 different managers.

Bigboyfresh

Doubt it.

LambemuNang

That's how long I didn't open my Facebook page, since the last post i shared was Donny transfer to united.

Is it just me that is bored with only playing inverted wingers without any variation? I know this is something that pretty much all top teams play now, but it so often results in players cutting back inside onto their stronger foot, killing momentum in attacks and gives opposition teams more time to get into defensive position. If we did play Antony on the left for example, he may be more inclined to go down the line and get balls in to the box for Hojlund (who did lack service last season). Not saying we only have to play with a right footer on the right wing and a left footer on the left, but having some variation could be beneficial. Or maybe I'm just getting too old (31) for modern tactics...

Iqbalainoo

Blame the quality of wingers we have + have given preference to. Olise, yamal, mahrez, Ribery, robben, mane etc were all inverted and still created bucket-loads for their forwards. We have solely focused on the pacey-shoot first wingers and It's played out exactly how it would.

FaithlessnessNo4680

We saw Antony on the left at times and he was shit
