Sega Lord X,
John Hancock,
Mad Little Pixel,
Retro Core
In no particular order and all great channels. Other channels I subscribe to have already been mentioned here
SNES Drunk offers great, bite sized reviews of the SNES library. Usually 3-5 minutes long, so he cuts right to the chase, with no bullshit. I’ve discovered a lot of hidden gems through his channel, and also avoided some hyped games that don’t hold up well anymore.
I mentioned SNES Drunk as well, but I gave no reasons why. You explained perfectly.
I might add that, despite the name, he's not noticible drunk while making the videos, and not all videos are about the SNES.
So if you are into content made by sober people about Genesis, Sega CD, NES, Arcades and others systems, still give SNES Drunk a try.
You know, his name was off-putting to me at first. When I saw dozens of his videos recommended to me by the YouTube algorithm, I assumed it would be a loudmouthed "bro" yelling at the camera. Instead, what I got were thoughtful, concise takes that got right to the heart of why a game held up - or didn't. Quite literally the opposite of drunk!
Classic gaming quarterly is another good one. He does in depth videos for diff consoles or a snapshot of what games came out for a console in a given year. Also magazine read thrus that r really interesting since he puts gameplay footage on while he talks about a certain game.
Some not mentioned yet:
Jeremy Parish
Hungry Goriya
Big Ole Words
Joey DeSena (Roo from Clan of the Grey Wolf) just started tweeting again... fingers crossed he might put out some video content 😁 not gonna hold my breath lol
Retrobird, SLX, and Bithead1000, gaming historian. To name some of the good ones.
One to avoid , rgt85. Dudes a 1 man clown show. And half his content is eShop sale videos, cuz you can't just look at the eShop......
Gaming off the grid is easily my favourite. I like the fact it's 2 guys chatting and bouncing stuff off each other rather than the usual monologue. They do a good job of mixing it up too rather than putting out the same stuff as every other channel. Sega lord X and retro bird are also great.
I watch a bunch of different ones randomly. I don't watch every video from a single channel, but here's the list as I pull them out of my head.
Metal Jesus
The CU Podcast,
John Hancock
John Riggs
Gaming Historian
SNES Drunk
Retrobird
Mad Little Pixel
RMC
8-bit guy
Modern Vintage Gamer
Gaming Historian and SNES drunk.
if you are interested in gameboys i highly recommend retro future

I enjoy One Credit Classics for watching some gameplay.
Easily this one. This guy's taking off like wildfire for good reason. https://www.youtube.com/c/MyRetroLife

Roo coming back would be crazy. I miss his videos.
Game Dave and My Retro Life are a couple of good ones that I’ve been into lately.
