The way he treated little Robin Ince, if the way Ricky tells the story is true, is way worse.
Saying “You know I don’t like him” in front of him was genuinely mean spirited.
He's also being a bit of an Immanuel Kant when he's winding Suzanne's parents up on holiday. After telling them they can't come. "Gonna go and have a shower, get ready for tonight, it's gonna be great".
I agree with that. Karl is actually quite wrong there. Firstly her parents may have been doing things that would him up a bit... But they weren't actually doing anything wrong/rude/nasty, Karl was though
Secondly he went on holiday with his girlfriends family, and Karl almost finds it a bit weird that they want to spend time with him and suzanne... Ofc they would that's normal. He was acting a bit selfish and bratty there
It's just conjecture so I could be very wrong but for some reason I got the feeling he was exaggerating that they hadn't had any alone time in the evenings previously
Karl always strikes me as a bit of an introvert (shut the door, shut the door) and someone who probably finds social situations pretty exhausting. Spending all your time with people - especially people you don't get along with - can take its toll sometimes and I think it's fair enough for Karl to have wanted to spend some time away from them.
He was a bit rude, but then it's also clear that Suzanne's mum was using them as a bit of a social crutch anyway. There was nothing stopping them going out by themselves too.
Yeah but then they *did* arrange to go out by themselves and that still annoyed Karl. For some reason he wanted her to have to stay in lol, didn’t even want her husband taking her out.
The way he told Steve about the women who saw the poster. If I remember right Steve was trying to make up with Karl at the time too and Karl just dumps (what I think is) the most mean spirited antidote at Steve's expense.
He also claims he only said it to defend himself against Steve's balloon comment. But if you listen carefully he actually starts trying to tell the story unprovoked before Steve interrupts him
It is funny though so...
As a woman, it’s definitely his treatment of Suzanne. The condoms, nicely packed like it’s something good to maximise her disappointment, of course, but mostly her wanting to marry and have a baby and him dismissing her like he did several times. While he seems like a very good and reliable partner in all other areas, I do wonder how capable he is of empathising with others, and if Suzanne doesn’t feel a bit alone at times since he seems to live in his own reality quite a bit.
This is a rare occasion where I'm going to defend Ricky and say I reckon he's easier to be in a relationship with. Not that I'm... I'm not... I wouldn't want that, obviously...
What seems quite odd from his diary excerpts and the day in a life podcast episode is that Suzanne seems to be fairly dismissive of Karl's nonsense and theories. Us saucer drinkers love them but every time he tries to engage her with his idiocy, she doesn't seem appreciative.
It's just weird because I'd imagine that the only real benefit of being with Karl (prior to him becoming financially successful) would be because you are entertained by his drivel, but Suzanne isn't. Seems like an odd relationship.
Karl's only interests are weirdness (either deformity or the supernatural) and DIY. It doesn't seem like Suzanne has any time for either of those.
The funny thing is that Suzanne is a massive sports fan so most men would have loads in common with her, but the bald Manc didn't even recognise David Beckham when he saw him so he's clearly not all that interested in sport either.
I don’t think she’s real to be honest. Alongside everything you point out here, how is it possible no one has ever taken a photo of them together after all this time?
I understand Karl not wanting to get married. After being together so long anyway you're practically married, why go through the hassle, the money, having to be the focus of attention, the families mixing, embarrassing speeches, terrible disco afterwards, photography session. Absolute nightmare. Could have given her a kid though.
Part of me just really hopes that the way he talks about Suzanne is just "Part of the bit" , Karl obviously plays his personality up atleast abit and the dumb british guy trope usually comes with a distaste towards their wife or "the ball and chain"
maybe not THE worst but it always bugs me the way he treats tradesmen. how's that pub across the road, well it doesn't matter you're here to do the job. like imagine saying that in casual conversation
When they're talking about the possibility of gay men having their own toilets, and Karl says "why are they getting annoyed about it?", like it's a gotcha and proof that they are having a sneaky look. Something about his tone when he says that rubs me a little wrong. Though I'm pretty sure it was during *that* episode, when he clearly was just fed up in general.
Oh he was definitely somewhat homophobic back then, albeit due to ignorance rather than malice. I imagine his views on little gay fellas have improved over the last 20 years though as society has changed
I must say, Karl’s dad sounds like a bit of a miserable fella. Stealing groceries and shoes, all while moaning that everyone’s out to rip him off. It’s amazing Karl turned out as well as he has.
One thing that bothers me slightly is from An Idiot Abroad when he’s in India and they make out he’s going to be sleeping in the back of the shop with a load of other people. He’s asking them to understand why it’s such a shock for him (and I think another time about the toilet when he says this time yesterday he was in London) - I’m sure it was a shock but read the room a bit.
That got a bit heavy didn’t it - bit of elbow?
maybe some of the bits about his brother and sister, saying they'll come out of the woodwork because he's famous and refusing to look at the photos of his niece
If you know about his siblings though, he's probably right. They were/are a bit... like that.
IIRC there's a bit of a family split and Karl and his parents aren't in contact with his sister/brother for good reason. Karl mentioned that his dad kept getting asked to go on Jeremy Kyle with his brother, so that probably gives you a good idea.

>She's not on bad terms with Karl, they just went separate ways with their lives, she had moved to Ireland.
his brother seemed alright in the doc but obviously can't just go by that.
haven't seen it for many years to be fair. i remember him making an effort to get his shit together then getting fucked by whoever was in charge. i'll watch it again some time.
The general way in which he's treated Suzanne throughout their relationship.
It sorta feels like he's had some low-level contempt for her the way he's always come of as rude, thoughtless, heartless and self-centered. I genuinely feel like she could've done a lot better than him.
Karl wasn't to blame for the voice over work. He passed the message on, they shouldn't have rang xfm and it's not his fault he wasn't prepared for a call like that to occur. Steve wants to have a word with his agent foremost about that.
There's a couple of things that stick out, and I think Steve was right when he called him "quite patriarchal". Would have loved to see the show Ricky wanted to do, 'at home with the pilkington's' - I bet the apple didn't fall far from the tree, with some of the stuff karl's dad says.
The way he treated little Robin Ince, if the way Ricky tells the story is true, is way worse. Saying “You know I don’t like him” in front of him was genuinely mean spirited.

that one cracks me up every time he tells it but yeah it’s out of order
Don't get me wrong, it's hilarious. "Her face started to look miserable, I was like, 'I'm loving this'"
I love it when he imitates her voice and Ricky stirs the pot more by going ‘What, she’s got a funny accent?’.
😂😂😂 gervais, the stirrer
You’re a stirrer gervais
I agree with that. Karl is actually quite wrong there. Firstly her parents may have been doing things that would him up a bit... Ofc they would that's normal. He was acting a bit selfish and bratty there
I don't think it was unreasonable for Karl and Suzanne to want a night out to themselves, but the way Karl handled it was rude.
I love it. I bet 'er mam's well annoyin'
Never did I ever think I would see someone drawing parallels between Kant and Pilkington hahahha
Immanuel Kant was a real pissant who was very rarely stable…
The Robin Ince and Suzanne’s parents incident are in the same episode. Mind blowing.
And that Robert was devastated and wanted to go home
Robert! *Get me Robert Ince*
Robber Plant?
Don’t be worrying about Robber.
😂😂
They one is on Ricky.. if Ricky knew that Karl didn’t like robin, why did he put them two together ?
It's genius. They'd never thought of putting Karl Pilkington with Robin Ince.
Robin ince is very annoying to be fair
I don’t actually know anything about Robin but even if he is, Karl was a total dickhead there.
Disagree, he was doing everyone a favour because then robin was fed up and spoke less
You like Armageddon, right? And Afterlife?
No obviously they’re shit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qn-SZQ9-blU
Totally agree
What's the point of spending time and money on her if she's gonna die on me.
Well, would you buy a car with a duff engine?
He gave him the message though
we've been over this...
Voiceover work for tractor sale adverts don't come along often.
We might never have got Steve in Portal 2 with that attitude!
And then I would've never heard of the podcasts or the radio show. To be honest I probably would've been better off.
I love money for old rope!
*I drove my tractor past yer 'aystack last night*
Mm mm mm _mmmm_
It was a woman - I should've known...
Probably the most unnecessary little dig at Steve he ever had. But comedy gold.
Karl’s attitude towards gifts for Suzanne, throughout the run of the show, is genuinely breathtakingly thoughtless.
She’s done alright
She's done well for herself.
She's 'ad a floor...
And new shoes. Like a horse
I have fed and clothed you...
And attitude towards her parents
At least he calls Auntie Nora.
Auntie X
Don't forget Uncle Hazel
Took her for a meal that’s 80 quid.
If we're totting up
she had a floor
She had a floor

"Eughhhh... who is that" - I love that noise Karl makes, so cutting lmao
Anecdote* And I kinda get the feeling Karl made that up just to get under his skin.
Steve, sorry Steve, it didn't sound that bad when he told me earlier
I actually suspect Karl and Ricky spoke between them a fair bit about things to say in front of Steve when on XFM
Also his worst moment has to be him bloody whistling for two hours while playing Scrabble. Fff-fff-ffff-fff Squirm Fff-fffff-ffff There's a Q in that

it is genuinely unbelievable to me that Karl has been in a relationship with the same woman for two decades
He's been with her 30 years now, pretty sure they're still together
I mean no one has ever photographed her… turns out..
Honestly you could say the same about Jane and Gervais.
This is a rare occasion where I'm going to defend Ricky and say I reckon he's easier to be in a relationship with. Not that I'm... I'm not... I wouldn't want that, obviously...
oooooooOOOOOOOO
young Alex Zane

She must be a fan of perfectly round orange-looking things or summat
I mean, aren't all relationships like that? You don't have to be interested in every single thing they do.
I imagine she just switches off after a while.
I don’t think she’s real to be honest. Alongside everything you point out here, how is it possible no one has ever taken a photo of them together after all this time?

Little woman fella
payback for the 50p and lager.
Everest, Lego and cycling uphill. Idk why, it´s the insisting maybe.
They do all look the same
RIGHT
Although it is hilarious the way he says it, by todays standards saying keep the wheelchair tennis off the telly is horrendous
Little fellas give em a game a swingball.
Tell me why tell me why tell me why
Don’t they
Play the game of swing
Ball
So funny but so bad hahaha
I love how everyone who's a little bit different comes under the category of "Little Fella" 😅😅
Little gay fella
Just . . . don't put it on Telly.
Hit it! *NET.*
wrecked the grass and everything
he thought he knew them to be fair, although he should have known that wasn't true - it was a woman on the other end of the line
Are you the woman?
he comes up with features and sorts out the prizes, it's not about running Steve's voice over work
The holiday with Suzanne's parents. Dumpable offence, IMO. He's kinda loveable, but equally, the Boyfriend From Hell.
He compensated by saving drowning insects from the pool
Money for old rope
I’ve been trying to find the video of Steve and Karl talking about the voice over work for so long, does anyone have a link?
It's at the begining of one of the XFM shows. It's great.
Start of episode 37 of season 2 I think
It's money for old rope. And you know he's just doing it over that 50p. The skinflint.
The way he treated Graham was a bit ordinary
Of all the names
maybe not THE worst but it always bugs me the way he treats tradesmen. how's that pub across the road, well it doesn't matter you're here to do the job. like imagine saying that in casual conversation
I think there’s some creative license there, blurring the lines between what he thought and what he actually said.
The goat one for Christmas. Something about shoes “oh they haven’t got any” seemed like Karl’s attempt at actual humour and not observation
Where’s your brother? He died.
That was hilarious. He delivered that with such perfect timing. Always makes me laugh when i hear it.
I think Karl was fed up with being seen as Ricky and Steve’s PA.
Thumb FIRMLY up his arse

Rubs you a little what? Ooooo

Hed bully prople out of his own sandwich shop
And the little incident of stuffing the kid in the wheelie bin
He’s just like a more extreme version
Im thinking Karls dad is probably an awful person.
One thing that bothers me slightly is from An Idiot Abroad when he’s in India and they make out he’s going to be sleeping in the back of the shop with a load of other people. ITV actually rang Karl but he didn't bother passing it on.

Which doc was that mate?
This one I think they mean https://youtu.be/AKGsAVPabG4?si=i4RpZgrv9NUEnc9q
Wow haha cheers. What a weirdo
here's the full version https://youtu.be/wRpY-1Edk5k
Surprised you think his brother seems alright from that btw😂 Comes across a prat IMO!
haven't seen it for many years to be fair. i remember him making an effort to get his shit together then getting fucked by whoever was in charge. i'll watch it again some time.
I think his meanness comes from the inability to admit he's in the wrong. That's where most his bad moments stem from
Didn't he only not give him the message because he only got it a week after it was sent? Was on holiday when it came in?
He basically told Steve he deleted the message about a week after he heard it on his voicemail.
Remote access voicemail
You can't expect someone to work while they're on holiday. Anyway where was he? Like Wales or Cornwall or somewhere where they don't have phones?
But then just say you wont pass on the message
Telling the homeless guy selling *The Big Issue* that when he was a kid he used to just dump the papers in a bin and go home. Dickhead.
How did he know?
when was that?
[XFM S2E12, around 3 minutes in.](https://scrimpton.com/ep/ep-xfm-S2E12#pos-78)
ty, forgot about that. yeah it's pretty bad. at least there's a good chance it isn't true, knowing karl.
I reckon it's true, they way Karl says - A homeless fella called me a dickhead on the way in - makes me think its an anecdote that recently happened
Alright Columbo
cund.
Karl having a go at Steve when he had a sore throat was a bit tight
Surprised he wasn’t at home with his mam and his dad.. in BRISTOL
Oooh, the worm has turned!
just being completely dumb and ignorant to the rosie parks situation, then in the end calling her lazy
Crush grapes!
The general way in which he's treated Suzanne throughout their relationship. It sorta feels like he's had some low-level contempt for her the way he's always come of as rude, thoughtless, heartless and self-centered. I genuinely feel like she could've done a lot better than him.
Laughing at people with deformities, disabilities and diseases. Especially laughing at the kid with the ageing disease.
He wasnt aving a go, though. Tell em.
Karl wasn't to blame for the voice over work. He passed the message on, they shouldn't have rang xfm and it's not his fault he wasn't prepared for a call like that to occur. Steve wants to have a word with his agent foremost about that.
he didn’t pass the message on! i can’t believe we’re doing this!
You're an idiot, play a record
Agreed!
I thought it was hilarious.
Do We Need Them? Just hearing Karl repeatedly get shot down during each debate and he still edited them together and allowed them to go on radio
Biggest load of shit on xfm tbh
There's a couple of things that stick out, and I think Steve was right when he called him "quite patriarchal". Would have loved to see the show Ricky wanted to do, 'at home with the pilkington's' - I bet the apple didn't fall far from the tree, with some of the stuff karl's dad says.
I can't think what she gets out of the relationship
