people squirm when i remind them that auto watch tech is obsolete. but i must say i have seen grown ass men controlled by an apple watch buzzing their wrist every 30 seconds, interrupting what they're doing, conversation, or life in general. also why i don't care for smart watches
God damit I love this watch… I was completely insensitive back in the day. For a couple of months now it just grew so much in me… I can’t explain it 🤷🏻♂️ maybe I am finally a grown up man! 😂
A shame that this model is just too expensive nowadays 🫠
When I had to 16610LV (kermit) and now I own the latest sub, the newer bracelets just feel so much better. However, the proportions of vintage do feel better. Ceramic bezels are just really nice though...
I own a 2005 Pepsi and a 2016 GMT. I have to say: The newer one. It so much better built, feels more solid and the black bezel is still stunning after 8 years of ownership.
Yeah I don't think most people realize that vintage Rolexs don't feel great when compared to a modern Rolex. The vintage ones feel very clunky and kind of cheap.
Vintage 100%. You can really see the blown out proportions of the newer cases when put side-to-side. I really dislike the wider lugs and overall case dimensions of the ceramics.
They both look great. The new ones though in my opinion are so bulky. The vintage ones are so much sleeker; I think the lugs on modern GMTs (and Subs for that matter) are too wide. It’s an easy choice for me; the only thing I could see myself wanting even more than a five digit would be an early gilded 1675 (4-digit).

It’s funny how in the pole I made 2 days ago (you can check it out on my profile) 63 voted for the new and only 18 for the 5 digit. It appears that in this comment section it’s the opposite. Go figure🤷🏻♂️
If obtainable both at MSRP, the new one feels more worth it for the money. Tech, movement, bracelet, bezel etc. superior in new one. If not obtainable at MSRP I can see a case for the old one. Economics aside, I think I’d still rather have the new one.

1675 has been my daily since 1995, added the 126710 in 2018
Actions speak louder than words so here’s my answer. Take care fellow watch enthusiasts.

I have a 126234 blue DJ I bought brand new in 2021 and I wear this 95% of the year, and I love my DJ. I just never feel comfortable switching this 16710 out.
The new one. Don‘t like the vintage design and I had a 2007 Rolex before, did not like the feeling of the wobbly bracelet and switched to a brand new one. Never looked back.
Couldn’t be more torn. I love the classic aluminum bezel because of the color and finish but can’t stand the font choice. I don’t love the one they chose for the refresh but I’d still go with that version if not for the increased case size.
5 digit. Hate polished centre links on any watch, and unnecessary on a ‘tool watch’. The size of the numbers on the bezel of the 6 digit make it look like a toy you’d give to a child to teach them how to tell the time. And the lugs are waaaay too fat on the 6 digit.
In the case of the PEPSI, I'd take the modern one solely based on the fact that I have a Coke coming in at some point soon (hopefully). If I did not have my Coke, then I would go with the vintage one.
I know this goes against conventional internet wisdom but give me the ceramic any day. I like the larger font, the “flash” (90% of people don’t pay any attention to your watch anyway), and the size.
The BLRO colors are better on the 5-digit but I went with a BLNR anyway. But if having to choose one, I’d still take the purply ceramic.
I understand the vintage appeal. But i much prefer the newer gen pepsi by a long shot, personally. Colours on the bezel are less in your face too (as opposed to the numerals I guess 🤣) Beautiful watches.
Out of all the GMT’s, my favorite is the modern white gold Pepsi with the navy lacquer dial. It’s the perfect blend of class, sophistication and versatility.
I like the current model better in every way if prices were the same.
That said, Id be buying the vintage.....half the price and not giving flippers the satisfaction.
Vintage 1675! I don’t like the way “oyster perpetual date” looks, too stretched out across the dial. The words oyster perpetual do just fine and give the dial a more symmetrical/ balanced look
https://preview.redd.it/vn88dk6ipr4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52609ffb7b8d290fad2d0cecf4bd81f6a9ec87d0
YEAH!
I don’t have a Pepsi I’m sorry
So weird to see these comments. The newer model absolutely destroys the old one, makes it look childish. The larger numbers fill the space better, and the color is less garish. Clearly I am in the minority, but it's really hard to understand what the majority sees.
the one on the right. both watches are ugly imo and attention seeking. the one on the right takes it up a level. if you really use it for what its made for, the one on the right serves the actual purpose. the one on the left is the g-wagon that stays at the mall.
before you get angry at my post. nobody likes the rolexes i like, and i'm fine with that. i am old school with the presidential. because its subtle, the hidden clasp is jewelry, its not in your face, and those who know, know its 60k watch.
the one on the right is way better aesthetically to me. I prefer the larger markers on the dial and larger numbers on the bezel. Also the Pepsi bezel colors are better on the right to me.
Definitely new. Can’t stand the jankiness of vintage Rolex bracelets, end links, clasps, lackluster lume, and non-ceramic bezels.
The proportions are definitely better in vintage, though.
Everything modern except the bracelet and clasp. The high polish center link is too much IMO (all or none), and the new clasp is annoying and I prefer the glide lock based on functionality.
Also, I wish the numbers on the bezel were slightly smaller on modern, but not as small as vintage. I think there’s an in between.
I’d take both! Got 16710 coke with both bracelets but oyster seems to look better for some reason, but the new model the jubilee suits it, but doesn’t so much the 116710 on n which I divide my time between, as a tool watch the sub can’t be beaten, well maybe an explorer 2 but the sub bezel is handy for timing stuff
Vintage because I personally feel like I’m closer to getting something worth the money. Maybe my answer changes if I can get the new one at MSRP, but my real world answer is vintage.
I really like my 16700, paid 12k for it (full kit). Was waiting over a year for new one and just didn’t want to pay 15kish to go grey. Overall happy with the choice to buy vintage, but it was tough choice as both watches are nice!
Vintage. Love traditional design.
Same
Same - and it also shows the very clear distinction and evolution from tool to jewelry. The new ones are just way too flashy imo.
In 2024, all watches are jewelry.
people squirm when i remind them that auto watch tech is obsolete. but i must say i have seen grown ass men controlled by an apple watch buzzing their wrist every 30 seconds, interrupting what they're doing, conversation, or life in general. also why i don't care for smart watches
So true. Phones perform better watch functions than watches do! Now we just like the look of watches .... male jewelry.
A luxury watch is by default more jewelry than a tool.
Very well said!
I’m so tempted to get a 5 digit GMT after seeing this picture. So good!
might be dumb question, but what 5 digit means?
It is the model number
the older models has the lower digit serial number (the more made the higher the serial number goes)
Reference number, not serial number
I’m saving for one currently
https://preview.redd.it/zz94zxnubo4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd3d981e703aca97299c147c35a7206233f5e2de 5 digits all day erryday!

Love it!
How old is yours?
1992 X serial so 32!
Papers say 1989
When I had to 16610LV (kermit) and now I own the latest sub, the newer bracelets just feel so much better. However, the proportions of vintage do feel better. Ceramic bezels are just really nice though...
Old school all day everyday
Agreed
I own a 2005 Pepsi and a 2016 GMT. I have to say: The newer one. It so much better built, feels more solid and the black bezel is still stunning after 8 years of ownership.
Yeah I don't think most people realize that vintage Rolexs don't feel great when compared to a modern Rolex. The vintage ones feel very clunky and kind of cheap.
Would be a crazy hard choice. Like the look of the old, like the materials and tech of the new.
Tudors have em both!
Vintage 100%. You can really see the blown out proportions of the newer cases when put side-to-side. I really dislike the wider lugs and overall case dimensions of the ceramics.
I wish they’d stop making the sports models bigger. The sub didn’t need extending either imo.
100% agree
New 100%
Vintage 5 digits for me!
Same
Love the look of the 16710 but hate the hollow link bracelet. It’s the only thing that makes me hesitate to buy one
Very comfortable to wear, new ones are a bit heavy.
The later ones have solid end links! I think around 2000-2007 have solid you just have to look
He’s talking about the inner row of the bracelet. Those links are not solid.
They both look great. The new ones though in my opinion are so bulky. The vintage ones are so much sleeker; I think the lugs on modern GMTs (and Subs for that matter) are too wide. Beautiful!! This is the one I want right here.
The right side. I like the chunky styling.
It’s funny how in the pole I made 2 days ago (you can check it out on my profile) 63 voted for the new and only 18 for the 5 digit. It appears that in this comment section it’s the opposite. Go figure🤷🏻♂️
I used to be a vintage guy. Anything pre ceramic feels cheap in comparison IMO. The more I wore new stuff the more I hated vintage.
Both are good cant go wrong with either. If I’m to go for the 5 digit, I’ll look for a 3186 MVT and solid end links.
3186 is gonna be $$$
5 digits all day.
The left since I really like the look of the aluminum bezel.
I prefer Ali bezel, and the single finish bracelet
If obtainable both at MSRP, the new one feels more worth it for the money. Tech, movement, bracelet, bezel etc. superior in new one. If not obtainable at MSRP I can see a case for the old one. Economics aside, I think I’d still rather have the new one.
MSRP for the new one is the same as the older used ones.
I prefer the new model more. I don’t like aluminium bezels or nipple indices but that’s just me
Both are awesome, however the vintage is timeless
Left, vintage and brushed oyster
Left. I like the look of the bezel more.
As I don't like the look of faded aluminium I would take the second one without hesitation.
Left
I’d go right. I like the deeper red and the chunkier design goes better on my 8” wrist.
Got to go vintage. The modern version looks like someone selected the bold font - every element is bigger!
Right feels better on the wrist. I went with it on jubilee. Can't go wrong.
Vintage. Number size/spacing has always been more attractive to me.
I just love the Neo-vintage Pepsi so much so that one has my vote
https://preview.redd.it/3wv1cgxu3r4d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6322e745abaa43e551674bc938f36b79abb9101d Mine is Mark III But Vintage is so so good 🔥
The right. It pops more.
Right side all day.
https://preview.redd.it/b18zgkdb0s4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68afb08ae99e743fa16f0b5c1c31359c1bb2b5e9 1675 has been my daily since 1995, added the 126710 in 2018
They’re obviously very different watches, but do you reach for one more often than the other? Both lovely pieces, btw
5 digit holes case. There's no contest.
Anyone else notice the 7/11 date. I love this group because of all the hidden nostalgia. 7/11 was the first place the Pepsi was sold.
16710, an excellent tool as well as a daily watch. The leather jacket of watches imo
Actions speak louder than words so here’s my answer. Take care fellow watch enthusiasts. https://preview.redd.it/mc34n48ayo4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a0d8f028983e2c5956f273a5eb6f7597bbb2a64b
I love my 16710 Pepsi so much. I can’t see myself getting rid of it, the proportions are perfect.
I’m saving for one
https://preview.redd.it/jqr7frdvco4d1.jpeg?width=1236&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44671f0e59b25bf40839e03e6fb951e9e6880c93 I have a 126234 blue DJ I bought brand new in 2021 and I wear this 95% of the year, and I love my DJ. I just never feel comfortable switching this 16710 out.
Neo vintage, 5 digit always. Pre 2000, tritium dial so patina is possible not just on the bezel, but the dial and hands also.
Vintage. Don’t like PCL and I way prefer the font on the bezel of the 5-digit. Smaller size is a plus too.
Already have the one on the right so I pick the vintage
What mm is the vintage? Absolute beauty
The classic.
The older one just has more of the sport watch essence I look for in a Rolex.
Left
Left looks clean and elegant Right looks beefy and aggressive (in a good way)
I’ll take the new GMT because I have the vintage one on my wrist right already 😎
Can you swap out the bezels on the newer GMTs? I bought a cheap black bezel to swap out with my Pepsi and it’s like have two watches
Left colors match up date window is clear
Aesthetic choice would be the 5 digit; functionality and practicality wised 6 digit.
Always vintage
I own a new GMT but I enjoy the brushed bracelet on the old model more.
The new one. Don‘t like the vintage design and I had a 2007 Rolex before, did not like the feeling of the wobbly bracelet and switched to a brand new one. Never looked back.
Every time the 5 digit especially in the Coke variant
Left. Smaller case size, aluminium bezel, matte bracelet. They speak to me more.
Couldn’t be more torn. I love the classic aluminum bezel because of the color and finish but can’t stand the font choice. I don’t love the one they chose for the refresh but I’d still go with that version if not for the increased case size.
Vintage is usefully legible.
Left of course
Vintage. That's cause I have it
I like ceramic, but I can do without PCLs.
Vintage. Don’t make em like they used to.
Left all day.
Vintage with a Jubilee imo.
When they slim down the maxi case it’s going to be 👌
hopefully they do
Left. Only because I have small wrist.
5 digits all the way
5 digit. Hate polished centre links on any watch, and unnecessary on a ‘tool watch’. The size of the numbers on the bezel of the 6 digit make it look like a toy you’d give to a child to teach them how to tell the time. And the lugs are waaaay too fat on the 6 digit.
I agree
Left cause it’s the Hunter S Thompson ref.
Old school cool… and the other is basically rare as rocking horse 💩to obtain at MSRP..
Vintage, I hate the new Rolex case
New Pepsi but with the vintage bezel.
Right because it’s on my wrist. Both are lovely however.
OP
What’s the reference number of the vintage one?
16710
In the case of the PEPSI, I'd take the modern one solely based on the fact that I have a Coke coming in at some point soon (hopefully). If I did not have my Coke, then I would go with the vintage one.
One is for nouveau riche. One is for old skool money. That simple.
Right, love that polished centre link
[удалено]
5 digit > 6 digit
I know this goes against conventional internet wisdom but give me the ceramic any day. I like the larger font, the “flash” (90% of people don’t pay any attention to your watch anyway), and the size. The BLRO colors are better on the 5-digit but I went with a BLNR anyway. But if having to choose one, I’d still take the purply ceramic.
I understand the vintage appeal. But i much prefer the newer gen pepsi by a long shot, personally. Colours on the bezel are less in your face too (as opposed to the numerals I guess 🤣) Beautiful watches.
Left
I would look for the gmt ii 16710 with the 3186 movement. Those have the comfort factor with the latest technology.
Yes
For me, left because: 1. It’s smaller 2. The polished center links are scratch magnets But the right one looks beautiful
5 digits. The numerals on the bezel look so much better, and I preter the proportions too.
Although I love the new iteration of the Pepsi, I had a 1993 Pepsi and would have to go with the vintage watch every time.
16710 because it looks better on an average human beings wrist
Out of all the GMT’s, my favorite is the modern white gold Pepsi with the navy lacquer dial. It’s the perfect blend of class, sophistication and versatility.
New new
Left ! All brushed bracelet with no PVL. No ceramic bezel, more appropriately proportioned case size
I like the current model better in every way if prices were the same. That said, Id be buying the vintage.....half the price and not giving flippers the satisfaction.
Vintage because they don’t make them like they used to anymore. Ceramic bezels are way too reflective for me
Left. I just like it better for the Pepsi. For the ceramic bezel GMT I prefer something that represents the era like the 116710.
Vintage 1675! I don’t like the way “oyster perpetual date” looks, too stretched out across the dial. The words oyster perpetual do just fine and give the dial a more symmetrical/ balanced look
16710 But I would get the 116710 on the jubilee
Both have their appeal, but I would go with the newer reference, the improvements are a winner for me
I like the newer font a lot better. But I’d be stoked with either. On the waitlist for black and gray or black and blue
The older colors look better but the newer bezel shape/ design looks better. Win win either way
https://preview.redd.it/vn88dk6ipr4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52609ffb7b8d290fad2d0cecf4bd81f6a9ec87d0 YEAH! I don’t have a Pepsi I’m sorry
I have to say the vintage look gets me every time.
So weird to see these comments. The newer model absolutely destroys the old one, makes it look childish. The larger numbers fill the space better, and the color is less garish. Clearly I am in the minority, but it's really hard to understand what the majority sees.
I feel the case is too big on the new ones for my 6.5 in wrist
Much prefer the newer model. Older one looks faded, not a fan. Nonetheless, Pepsi is a classic. I love it and own it.
both are good for their own reasons. I might pick the 5 digit over the 6 digit. but the 6 digit is white gold right so that's something nice too.
I like newer because they are better made
I find the biggest difference is the 5 digets dont have the bling bling blow blow effect?
the one on the right. both watches are ugly imo and attention seeking. the one on the right takes it up a level. if you really use it for what its made for, the one on the right serves the actual purpose. the one on the left is the g-wagon that stays at the mall. before you get angry at my post. nobody likes the rolexes i like, and i'm fine with that. i am old school with the presidential. because its subtle, the hidden clasp is jewelry, its not in your face, and those who know, know its 60k watch.
I prefer the new pepsi.
Wearing the 16710 now, so asked and answered.
Both Pepsi?
the one on the right is way better aesthetically to me. I prefer the larger markers on the dial and larger numbers on the bezel. Also the Pepsi bezel colors are better on the right to me.
Left. Because I already have the one on the right. I prefer more vibrant colors of the 16710.
I would go for the five digit, there is a certain appeal to the older design.
🤣🤣🤣
Left of course. Vintage forever
Old school, just looks classic
Definitely new. Can’t stand the jankiness of vintage Rolex bracelets, end links, clasps, lackluster lume, and non-ceramic bezels. The proportions are definitely better in vintage, though.
New. Better materials. Better movement. No brainier for me.
Everything modern except the bracelet and clasp. The high polish center link is too much IMO (all or none), and the new clasp is annoying and I prefer the glide lock based on functionality. Also, I wish the numbers on the bezel were slightly smaller on modern, but not as small as vintage. I think there’s an in between.
have owned both but 16710 wayyyyy better
I’d take both! Got 16710 coke with both bracelets but oyster seems to look better for some reason, but the new model the jubilee suits it, but doesn’t so much the 116710 on n which I divide my time between, as a tool watch the sub can’t be beaten, well maybe an explorer 2 but the sub bezel is handy for timing stuff
Having both they each scratch a different itch. I like them equally based on their respective nuances.
If it's ceramic it's going to be on jubilee, not into the pcl's. Vintage is very tempting however.
I like the lightweight feel and look of vintage and the updated movement of the new
I like them fatty numbers
Vintage because I personally feel like I’m closer to getting something worth the money. Maybe my answer changes if I can get the new one at MSRP, but my real world answer is vintage.
Give me the ceramic so I can sell it to buy the five digit and pocket the rest.
I don’t like vintage watches. 🤷🏼♂️
The newer one looks much nicer
Vintage. I just can’t put my faith on a ceramic bezel. I know, I know. But still.
The bigger one because my eyes get worse every year. Legibility is the most important thing in my opinion.
Left looks fake
Left. Better proportions.
Left case shape is sooo much nicer than the new shape
Right
Right all day idk vintage looks like wierd to me
Cnt hck
Would love to have both but I’d choose newer first.
Both cuz i have both
I really like my 16700, paid 12k for it (full kit). Was waiting over a year for new one and just didn’t want to pay 15kish to go grey. Overall happy with the choice to buy vintage, but it was tough choice as both watches are nice!
Yeah I’m saving for 16710 currently
Vintage 100%
Left. Like the smaller bezel numbers.
Left because I get 4 more days out of it
Have to go with the new one, but with the jubilee bracelet. I am not a fan of the stamped clasp.
The old one its nicer simple
16710, for sure!
Vintage. The blue on the ceramic bezel is too purple for my taste.
submarinaaa
Old, then swapping bezel for a coke ha
They might feel flimsy but never failed me. The clasp is simple and always works.
I love the older design, and the pop of bright red instead of burgundy.
New. Im getting to reading glass age.
