I've made it a tradition. Just posted about a decision for a new watch in a different group. Always worth the time. Some redditors just have solid ass insight.
The reason I wouldn’t buy that is because it’s not period correct at all. It’s a Frankenstein by Rolex CPO. The bezel insert is incorrect for the watch, the hands are super luminova that don’t match the dial, the bracelet looks like a replacement service bracelet and the date wheel is not the correct brushed silver date wheel with open 6’s and 9’s. Add to that the extortionate price, it’s a hard pass.
Be patient, do your research and find a good example like I did. I picked this up for £12.5k

No idea. I think "colors should match" was etched into the collective conventional wisdom like 25 years ago...but now that another quarter-century of aging has happened we can see that hands actually tend to end up lighter. Honestly couldn't tell you why.
It’s unbelievable how many negative comments there are regarding this 1680. This is a beautiful example of a Mk I, albeit a bit overpriced especially with the lack of patina, Luminova hands, and thin font insert. The price of modern Rolex is dropping like lead balloons. Vintage will continue to increase regardless of the new market. That being said, I wouldn’t pay more Than £10k.
This cost me $10k in 2012. 😉

For that money, you can book a round trip flight to Tokyo in business class, have a Uber black drop you off at Nakano Broadway, go into Jackroad and buy mint one that's with box with papers. Then walk out and have a great omakase meal.
I completely disagree* and would buy this watch any/every day over the modern monstrosities. Appears to be a 1680 with a Mark I dial. Slimmer, lighter, and waaaay more subtle than a 6 digit Sub. That said, £14K is high - especially without B&P - which is why I added the “*”ast the beginning. Price range is closer to £10-12K depending on condition. Negotiate!? You will love that watch on your wrist!
It is indeed a 1680, tritium dial. I don’t know what people are on about saying buy a new one for cheaper. RCPO will, or should, come with new certification ie. Papers plus a 2 year warranty from Rolex and it would have had a full service, again, with Rolex. You’ll see second hand 1680 MK1 dial around 12k that aren’t RCPO. That RCPO tag is worth anything from 2-4k
I have a 116610 and a new bimetal yachtmaster. The Yachtmaster wears smaller Sub is every day (swapped with my 300m) and YM for nights out. Omega Deville for under my suit.

I’d love an older Sub with patina on the dial. Maybe a birth year from 73.
Lmao no.
Idc if I have to wait for the market to soften to hell and back but no way am I overpaying by over 50% retail of a brand new model for a used old model. They are deluding themselves.
If you would rock it as a daily and don’t care about vintage „continuity“ go for it - otherwise there a better one out there! (Pumpkin dials, box and papers etc)
You can buy a Complete set for less and probably 2020-2023.. I wouldn’t buy it. Not for 14k.. as is I would pay no more than $9000… Sorry No papers and no box is a big Nono when it comes to buy a time piece like a Rolex.. The box alone will cost you. $400-500
Most of the key components of having this era 1680 have been replaced in service from the looks of it.
If it were all original I’d consider it. Love this era of 1680.
Not buying anything without papers in the first place. Also considering this thing is pretty old with a rattling bracelet I‘m not dropping 14k on it, you could get a new one with box papers for that kind of money.
Nope.
Fuck no
Nope +1
Nope +2
Nope +sq3
Nope +4
double nope +4

Nope
I'm glad you came to reddit before pulling the trigger.
I wish I came to Reddit before I made most of my financial decisions 🤣
I've made it a tradition. Just posted about a decision for a new watch in a different group. Always worth the time. Some redditors just have solid ass insight.
Me too!
I’d tell them to £ sand.
You deserve more upvotes for this
you can buy a brand new on one on the grey for less.
This is cooler though Edit: wow, vintage really gets no respect here
90s submariners are definitely not the good vintage. And 14k pounds? Insane. That’s more than modern submariner money.
That's 1970s not 1990s
I love the vintage proportions. Wish they'd make a come back with the modern movements and such
Yes if I was regarded
I hold you in high regard
Dude I almost thought I am in r/wsb
Well, apparently you get a violation if you type it the other way, I’ve just learned my lesson 😂
Regards together. Strong
One is a subreddit dedicated to posting photos of their “investment” for clout, the other is r/wsb
Highly regarded?
Quiet down regard
I apologize - warm regards
I’m stealing your phrase. Thanks

That insert is great.
Fuck no. I’d buy a brand new one for the same money.
No.
Nope!!!!
Absolutely not
No way
Doesn’t look like the hands match
CPO is too expensive
Cpo means it had a service at Rolex, so it probably has a service dial, hands and bezel… I think you can find a better example for less
Thank you - they said all original parts but looked very pristine
Original as in manufactured by Rolex, but in 2024…
The hands seem to have a different fade of the lume than that on the dial. Hands seem brighter white than the faded yellowing dial.
That's a good sign. Hands should be lighter.
It’s funny you say that. My 1991 16610 had the same. Hands lighter than the dial. Why is that???
No idea. I think "colors should match" was etched into the collective conventional wisdom like 25 years ago...but now that another quarter-century of aging has happened we can see that hands actually tend to end up lighter. Honestly couldn't tell you why.

Yeah it’s kind of funny - but the reddit crowd likely doesn’t have significant cross over with the vintage Rolex crowd.
Because they're not really into watches, they're just into marketing.
Red sub for 10k is amazing considering the price now. Beautiful watch!
lol no

I have a modern 41 - this sits so beautifully on the wrist. Does seem quite overpriced however
Same, I have the 126610. Lovely watch. However I prefer the fit of the 40mm like Daytona and YM

Set it back down and run away.
F no

Some ADs charge ridiculously high amount of money for "CPOs." I saw a 2006 steel Daytona for $30,000.
No
Nope
No fucking chance in hell
Are you in the market for a new bridge? I know a guy
Way too expensive if you want a vintage one without papers it should be possible for 9-10k
Nyop. Your money is better spent elsewhere.
If it came with an omega speedmaster for that price as well than 14k is fair
Nah
No
Bro is out of his damn mind
In that price range I'd rather have a 116600 Sea Dweller
No absolutely not
Overpriced af lol
He’ll naw
No
Hell no
1680 plex glass. All original. Then yes. Pre 78
I paid £10950 for a brand new one.
No
No
No never
Rolex certified pre owned is madly overpriced (in the UK that is from what I’ve seen) go grey and most likely save a few ££££
Nope
Fuck no. You can find a 16800 (I think this is one), for under or at 10k
No way, brand new on grey is cheaper. Don't be a sucker.
Too expensive. You can buy a new one for the money
Lol no way
If i had £14k definitely yes but i got £14 in my bank🥲
absolutely not
Nope. I’d put my name on a list and wait.
Nope. I got a 23 with papers and box new from my AD for 10.5k
I think it’s too expensive for certified pre-owned surely you can get a current sub for about the same if not less.
Why would you possibly pay that price? Is the seller a friend in need of a favor?
No.
I would go the retail route.
Not in a million years
Nope
What are the shoes? 🤩
Lmao no. Idc if I have to wait for the market to soften to hell and back but no way am I overpaying by over 50% retail of a brand new model for a used old model. They are deluding themselves.
Lmaoooo no.
Nope
No, but I'll sell ya mine for 13
Lol, no.
For 14k Sudanese pounds, yes
You can buy a brand new one grey with box/papers for like $10-12k. Hell no on this one.
No way. This could be half the price
Nope

I wouldn't buy anything Rolex CPO. It's heavily marked up.
don’t do this
ive bought a bulova for 200 bucks and it came with all papers u can think of,,, 14k no papers, absolutely no
F*** no. You can buy a brand new sub date 41mm for $13k usd from grey dealer.
If you would rock it as a daily and don’t care about vintage „continuity“ go for it - otherwise there a better one out there! (Pumpkin dials, box and papers etc)
Op, do you know the year of manufacture? Edit: it’s a 1680 Price is probably pretty good actually.
Lots of people saying no. How much is an ok price do people think?
The CPO’s demand a stupid premium. Granted, the lack of papers becomes less of an issue to all but the most stringent collectors given that it’s CPO.
Not a chance. Too much
NO WAY
Nah looks like a 200 dollar seiko lol
I wouldn't, and even Steve wonder wouldnt
If it comes with a year supply of BJs
No
No, go to your authorized dealer and buy new.
No lol
pull the trigger, bro!
No way
Do not
No. CPO is crazy, imo.
Got mine with box and papers 2020 mint condition for 11.5

Nfw…
No
What year
Never
i don’t like old references tbh, and no thanks for 14k£
Not for half
No, I just bought this same watch for $9,000 in better shape than that. Look at Jomashop.com!
What reference is it? Looks more vintage than a 14060m and that’s kind of where my knowledge ends
🚫
🤣is this a serious question ?
No. Way too much.
No
No papers, NO sale. How many times does this need to be repeated!?
Rolex certified AND no papers? How does that work?
You can buy a Complete set for less and probably 2020-2023.. I wouldn’t buy it. Not for 14k.. as is I would pay no more than $9000… Sorry No papers and no box is a big Nono when it comes to buy a time piece like a Rolex.. The box alone will cost you. $400-500

lol. No.
Not at that price
Nope, no papers= no buy
If it was certified, produce ze papers.
Those lugs look like they’ve been polished once/year for each year of the watch’s life😂
What year?
Should’ve asked us first.
Absolutely not

Looks like a nice example of a 1680, and CPO is all the papers you need. Sure the price isn't the best but it's not a crazy ripoff imho
No.
Nope
No
No chance
For the love of god, no. £10-11k with box and papers, 8-10k without.
Nope, why would you?
Run far away from that dealer they're gonna take you for a ride
No papers means no deal
No
No box, no dice.
Way overpriced.
Hell nah
Nope
Not a chance
15-20k Aus seems to be the the average so 14 k Stg seems too much.
Why would i buy your used watch without certification, box etc. When i can buy brand new, not used daydate 2024 for cheaper price?
I'd call that a total rip off. Even at msrp
Get a Rolex get it with box and papers is my view nothing else.
Hell fking no
Hell no
Not buying anything without papers in the first place. Also considering this thing is pretty old with a rattling bracelet I‘m not dropping 14k on it, you could get a new one with box papers for that kind of money.
No- get in gray market for less
